This place instills fear in patients with unethical money grab practices and pressuring patients for same day procedures. I came here after getting on a new insurance and could no longer go to my old dentist as he was out of network. Reviews were overall good for this place so I figured I'd give it a try. I was having no oral pain or discomfort, just knew I was overdue for a cleaning. I was told I had multiple cavities and stage 3 gum disease. The way I was told about the gum disease was extremely bizarre. After the examination, the dentist showed me a chart with the stages of gum disease and images for each. She asked me where I thought I fell on the chart. I guessed one of the lower options and she then decided to tell me I had stage 3 gum disease (on the higher end of the spectrum). I was so caught off guard by the approach and immediately felt extremely uncomfortable by the way that was shared with me. They pushed for me to get treatments same day but I knew I needed to GTFO. I got a second opinion from another dentist and he was shocked at the approach and alleged work I needed done/ disease diagnosis. My new dentist says I just need a good cleaning. I'm really glad I went with my gut and didn't let them pressure me into getting work done that day. Get a second opinion before consenting to any work!

I like getting my cleanings because the hygienists are always really nice and the let you watch Netflix while they work (the TVs pull out to be over you and they give you the remote). The place is very clean too, it's a nice environment. I like it better than my last dentist so I'll keep coming and I would rec it to anyone with fairly straightforward dental needs! Kathy also did expert care and made minor adjustments to crown so I can floss and wear my night bite guard. AND more than five of five stars excellent for Yuki therapy dog par excellence! Sweet white curly haired sweetheart with red bandanna and red and white bow comfortably placed on head. Cutie pie walked in and allowed me to pet her and then walked back to her bed. I wasn't nervous but I love dogs and loved Yuki who is the fur baby of other dentist. I highly recommend this practice and Dr Herman and the two expert dental assistants who have helped me: Selena and Kathy. I really enjoyed Yuki Therapy Dog !!! Thank you. BTW my crown still feels great today. AND not to leave out the first and last staff you see and hear on the phone. 5 of 5 stars excellent for them also. Easy to make appointments. Although the dentists in the South Austin office are top-notch, they influence the office staff, and I am not too happy about that office. It seems that overcharging patients is normal here. In addition to the 3% for services billed using a patient's credit card, surprise bills are also possible. My health insurance often informs me before About Smiles does. Tiggy charged my card. I specifically asked her if I could alter my payment if I came back in soon. Yes, I was given that option. I returned later with a plan to use a debit card with NO 3% upcharge. Tiggy was busy so Peggy took my second transaction, I asked her if it was difficult, and she replied it was. BooHoo--BTW, Peggy seems like a candidate who does not work with patients much or at all. I apologized to Peggy. I WAS given the option to pay in another form, So I was there to pay with a debit card. Peggy billed the services as credit! Not as debit. Excuse me!! Here I follow the clinic instructions and am still out $23.00!!! I need the money, honey. I am not freely giving About Smiles one. more. cent. I am finished with About Smiles. After coming to this office for a few years I was up sold on so many things I didn't need, first being a mouth guard I never use (and surprise my teeth are fine though my dentist acted like my teeth were going to fall out without it) and countless fillings. The last year I had with them mid 2024 I believe I was quoted 1,600 dollars worth of work including a crown. I was devastated, but trusted them and scheduled with them. Something in my gut felt off about having another year of so much dental work when i religiously cleaned my teeth so I went for a second opinion. Turns out the second dentist didn't see any work I needed to get done. I was shocked to go from drilling countless spots in my mouth to no work needed. Now it's 01/06/2026 and I just went and got x rays again and told good job no extra work besides cleaning needed today at another dentist. I'm so glad I didn't go to grand oaks for a crown and multiple fillings I didn't need and trusted my gut. It's been years and my teeth are fine contrary to what this office said(they made it sound like my teeth were horrible and needed this work asap) Id never return to such a greedy and predatory dental office that's obviously only looking to make extra money and give you dental work you don't need. There is complimentary parking for your visit and once you go into the lobby you'll see their dental practice to the side. The experience from A-Z is so nice and it feels really light and refreshing. From being offered a boujie bevvie from sodas to flavored sparkling waters and then the practice aesthetic and sessions being so intentional. It really makes a lot of sense to make the trip. They are really good to keeping in touch with your services and making sure you're doing your best to stay on schedule for your routine checkups. I've never had a bad experience and everyone from the dentists to dental hygienists have been super nice. I also come here for my teeth whitening and love the results I get every single time.

Southpark Meadows Dental listened to my concerns, took multiple x-rays, took photos and tested my area of concern. They found I had a tooth (the one I thought) cracked in FOUR PLACES! We looked at the options. They explained everything to me including costs and timing and we installed a temporary crown that day as well as scheduled my root canal and permanent crown. Dr. Joshua was patient, kind and truly cares about taking care of you! I highly recommend
