I've passed by Mi Casa Cafe a few times and finally got to try it! It always looks like a popular place. We ordered the enchiladas and taquitos, as well as chips and salsa to start with. The chips and salsa were $3, with the chips being thinner tortillas but excellent salsas. I liked the red -- with a balance of sweetness to the acidity. There are also chunks of tomatoes, onions and cilantro. The green was cooler and very fresh. ENCHILADAS DE CANGREJO: The crab enchiladas had a burst of the ocean, enough crab meat and celery, tomato and onion. It came with a green and red sauce. The red sauce was saltier, but I liked both. Black beans were hearty, the salad was flavorful with crunchy pumpkin seeds and cotija cheese. The rice was like a fried rice, a bit salty, but so good with the red sauce that had made its way there. ENCHILADAS AL PASTOR: Red sauce enveloped the hearty al pastor chunks in the enchilada. I tried some of this dish and it was also very good. FLAUTAS: 4 crispy chicken taquitos dressed up with guac, cheese, sour cream, tomatillo and pico de gallo and lettuce. Overall, we enjoyed our food and service was great. If you're passing by wondering whether it's worth trying, stop by and give it a try.

Lively! The music, the appearance, and the attentive service add to the lively vibe of this place! "Mi casa es su casa", indeed haha. I had a botana mixto. It is a chilled dish consisting of shrimp and octopus with cucumber, tomatoes, and red onions. Lots of lime/citrus. Think seafood ceviche. Very cooling and tropical. Even though it was raining outside (at the time of this review), I wanted something cold and fresh. Lo and behold, there's this! Great! I'll try their hot dishes next time.

Burrito de Camarones (shrimp) at $13.99

I'm caught in a busy day and wanted to get something delivered for dinner. Mi Casa Cafe caught my eye (thanks, Yelp!!). The order came with a small bag of chips and salsa. Everything was packaged and delivered with care. Burrito de camarones at $13.99 The yellow bell peppers added a nice sweetness to the bite. The shrimp was grilled nicely with the peppers and onions, but lacked seasoning. El burrito Del Mar at $18.00 I wasn't sure what to expect but it was a wow moment when I opened the container. The shrimp and crab was on top of the burrito. Inside was white rice, beans, and guac. All the excitement was on the outside. The shrimp was over cooked and not seasoned. In both burritos, the white rice inside was plain and boring. They were generous with guacamole in the burritos so that made up for the rice. Either way, it was tasty and I didn't have to make it.

Best place I've been in a long while. Great food Great customer service Great ambiance A little on the pricy side but it's totally worth it. I will be back!

Got ripped off here! Ordered a chicken super burrito. While waiting I was brought chips & salsa. When the bill arrived I was surprised to see a $3 charge for the chips & salsa and $1 credit card processing fee, both a first for me. Visa charges merchants less than 2.5%, why would they charge me what comes out to 6.5% and not disclose there would be a charge if I used my credit card (I had cash)? Why didn't they disclose anywhere (menu, sign on the wall, THE SERVER) that I would be charged $3 for a small portion of chips & salsa? Aside from that, something seemed off when I only got the restaurant reciept copy to fill out. When I asked for customer receipt copy, they gave me a different receipt with the total without the line item charges of the above mentioned. Upon insisting on getting the same reciept, they finally provided it (see attached). When I confronted them about these lack of disclosures, I was told their new menu would state there will be charges. BTW, the burrito was nothing special, definitely not worth $11.50. I hope that extra $4 was worth it because not only will I never be back, I'll be sure to warn everyone to stay clear, like I'm doing here.

Service is great. Ambiance is great. Family style seating with bar and bar seats. I have been here twice. Service is great and the food is amazing. I have ordered the Taco Salad on both visits. Beams are great steak in juicy and tender. COKE in a bottle.

Camarones appetizer - grilled in a spicy, tangy sauce

The air was awful in Novato, so we decided to strike out south to find good food and cleaner air. What a pleasant surprise to find Mi Casa tucked away in the 'contractor' area of San Rafael off DuBois. The menu is very impressive - it was hard to decide exactly what to have! Although we had a short wait for a table outdoors it was well worth it. My pollo asado plate was fragrant, done perfectly, and the rice, beans, and salad that came with were all fresh. My wife's shrimp appetizer plate was loaded with fruit and veggies which really went well with the seafood flavors. She ordered it spicy, and it certainly was! Lots of black pepper really gave it a nice zing. The staff was incredibly attentive - i'll bet they checked on us at least 10 times during our lunch to ensure things were OK (they were OK). My only reason for giving four and not five stars is really pandemic related - the outdoor seating leaves you right in the parking lot, with vehicles coming perilously close to the tables (and each other), and some of the patrons of the other shops in this small strip mall must be deaf, based on the volume their car radios were cranked up to. Anyway, if you're in south San Rafael, looking for some AUTHENTIC mexican food - this is the place. I think we were the only non-latinos in the whole place the entire time we were there - and that's a good thing :) So great menu, tasty food, good portions, attentive staff - four solid stars.

Eating on patio is super lovely on a nice day, counter ordering was fast, and staff friendly. Got both flavors of chowder ($12/bowl) and would recommend the white especially for the nuanced taste- herby, creamy? Couldn't place what was different but wasn't your average chowder! For the cod ($24), fish was very tender and came with a hearty helping of potato wedges.

We were hungry and in a rush to get to our boat rental and didn't even notice the specials. We got the red chowder, white chowder, soft shell bao tacos, fish tacos, pasta con vongole, and Louie salad for a group of 5. We took everything to go and had it on the boat. Everything was great especially the white chowder, fish tacos, and soft shell crab bao tacos, except the pasta con vongole was too salty. After looking at the pictures we decided we have to come back on Saturday. On Saturday the wait was 50 minutes, and the line went all the way around the fence. So many of the specials including the whole fish, which we went back for, got taken off of the list while we were waiting...tragic. If you're going on the weekend beware!! We ate in at the restaurant this time as we didn't have a reservation to get to. The outside was pretty hot and there's some seating inside and also in an adjacent room that nobody seemed to notice. We were still able to get 2 specials: rockfish ceviche and dumplings. The dumplings were so good - their homemade chili sauce is sweet and a mild spicy that builds. Rockfish was a bit lime-y, but a delicacy nonetheless. I would definitely come back on a weekday to enjoy the specials again!

The ling cod is one of my favorite fish they have there and the rice and the tomatoes on the plates are delicious!!! I wish the staff here are more friendly and the food can come out a little slow, especially on the weekends. But the style of the restaurant left much to be desired. More below. The way this place works is: check in, wait to be seated, then once you have your table you can go stand in a separate line to order food and another line to order drinks. This aspect of the restaurant I think could improve it's a little clunky. 3 stars for this aspect of it. Wait on an early Sunday afternoon was 40+ minutes for 6 people to be seated. Luckily there's a cool surf/gear store next door to explore with tons of awesome items. As mentioned above after getting seated, it's another ~5-10 minutes to order drinks at the bar and ~5-10 minutes to stand in line to be able to order food. Then -20 minute wait for the food once ordered. All in all I don't think I was a fan of this set up. Fish and chips were okay/pretty good but nothing I would write home about. Oddly enough I think our table of 6 ordered five orders of fish and chips because we were that excited to try them out for ourselves. We've always wanted to try their S.F. location by the beach but it's always super packed. We also ordered a few Chips and salsa and guacamole. Salsa and guac were super bland, definitely would not recommend the salsa at all to my worst enemy. The beer selection on draft was extensive and bartenders were super friendly. Parking could be A LOT better -- we had to find parking all the way down the busy high speed road. They have their own small parking lot on site but it was packed to the brim. Originally I had this listed as a 4-star review because it truly is a nice layout and location with potential, but after writing this review I think it's more realistically a solid 3.5 star experience. Decided to keep the 4 to be fair because staff is super friendly and the layout and bones of the location is actually really big and nice, but it all just felt a little too clunky to be honest. Side note: kudos to staff who acted swiftly and super professionally to a super scary medical emergency that happened to someone near us at the bar. Paramedics had to be called and it was handled well.

Otherwise the food here isn't particularly interesting, and wouldn't have been worth writing about except that on a recent and particularly cold, wet evening I ordered a bowl of my ultimate comfort food, clam chowder. What arrived was such a major departure from the expected I had nowhere else to air the case, so now here we are. What arrived at the table was essentially a kind of thickened clam broth. Not flour & water library paste thick. but with the right pasta would have been an ersatz linguine alle vongole (less actual clams). Or adding potatoes would make it the soup of the day which I've been noticing more often on menus is termed "potato chowder". (about this last I'd like to take issue: how can a thickened potato soup rightly be called a chowder given that in traditional chowder recipes the essential ingredient is in fact potatoes (no? ask google). I figure to a marketing kind of mind calling this bland goo a chowder lends a certain cachet that mere "soup" lacks, for whatever that'$ worth) Where was I? oh yeah, i should add that neither potatoes nor pasta were in this clam soup, but to avoid a claim that the order didn't meet the "clam" description, it did include clams. However the clams were all in shell, half-open and floating or submerged in the broth. Not what I expected and definitely messy to fish them out. And of course, it's a chowder so where were the potatoes? But the clams were fresh and with enough sourdough to add the necessary carb load I decided on this cold wet night not to make an issue of this. So if you didn't complain, well you must have had no complaint... except I did. The bowl of clam chowder I was served looked nothing like the customer photo posted somewhere on your yelp page. I'll just stay with salads.

Welcome to Hog Island Oyster Co., which hits all the wickets at SF's Ferry Building, and where the eats are so good, even a former local will go to it again and again. What did we get? 1. Oyster Bar Mix. You can mix different raw oysters, and we got the locally sourced Sweetwater with its mild buttery flavor and the saltier Narragansett Bay from the East Coast. Best of both worlds for a happening contrast of flavor. The house made mignonette was on point, being just the right amount of mild sourness. Absolutely recommend but also with some cocktail sauce. 2. New England Style Clam Chowder. My favorite kind of clam chowder, we had several different riffs on this during our most recent road trip through NorCal. And the is one was by far the best. It's a happening dish with a lighter broth but so tasty nonetheless, being not too salty and still creamy enough. The potatoes weren't mushy but still had some good mouthful, not starchy. The clams cooked perfectly and fresh. Overall seasoning was good and well balanced. Definite recommend. 3. Shrimp Po' Boy. One of the best I have had. Shrimp was decent size and batter was crunchy but plump and moist with good and not overpowering seasoning. Bread also had excellent crunchy crust and soft interior. Not a huge amount of slaw for extra flavor, but it's okay before the shrimp got to shine. Comes with snappy fries dusted in Cajun seasoning and organic Heinz ketchup (nice tomato flavor comes though and not overly syrupy sweet for a refreshing dip). Recommended. A great eatery worth visiting when you're in town. Also worth a detour from the usual touristy Fisherman's Wharf. Maybe catch a bite on the way to Sausalito on the next visit. But as always, Yelpers, give this one a try if you haven't already. Even if you're a local.
