So I have been driving past this place for a while but have been hesitant to try. While waiting for my car to be serviced at DNA I decide to pop in for a taco, but when I walked in the ambiance took over me. The first thing I saw was the bar. Yassss! The decor and the vibe just made me want to stay a while, so I had a seat at the bar. I ordered a Michelada from the young man at the bar and the super nachos. I couldnt help myself after looking at all the greatness on the menu. The seafood plates were to die for but I wasn't really that hungry, nachos are my go to. The best torta in town! I have tried some other taquerias in San Rafael and their tortas are nothing compared to the ones from Mi Casa. I get the bistec torta, which comes with just avocado, grilled onions, and chipotle sauce(not spicy). I love that they don't slather a bunch of sour cream on the sandwich like other places do, and instead use a super flavorful and mild sauce. And they serve you a real slide of steak on your torta, none of that diced carne asada nonsense! The bread is soft yet firm and doesn't turn to mush as you munch on your sammie. You get a choice of salad or fries and trust me when I say GET THE SALAD. Nice leafy greens with queso fresco crumbles, roasted pepitas (I think I taste a wonderful hint of sesame oil?) and a light cream dressing that I can't quite describe. It all pairs perfectly together and will leave you feeling completely satisfied with your meal. Everything is great here and I love how fresh all the ingredients are. They always give a generous portion of the extras like sour cream and guacamole (no watery guacamole here, either!) This place is a superior to the other taquerias in San Rafael. Excellent food! My friend treated me to lunch today, he had been raving about this place. I'm so glad I got to experience their food. I had green enchiladas made with chicken, they were absolutely delicious!! The green sauce wasn't spicy, it was mild, but full of flavor. I enjoyed the chicken, it was diced and grilled, very tasty and the combo with the tortillas and green sauce was perfect. I was very pleased with everything. My sides were also very good. The salad was delicious, too. I enjoyed the flavorful ranch dressing it came with. I would def recommend this place for an authentic taste of Mexico. We booked Mi Casa Cafe for my husband's 50th birthday party this weekend. We had about 60 people and wanted to provide tacos/burritos as well as dancing. Two staff from Mi Casa showed up on time when they said they would be there (4:30pm for a 7:00pm start), were a bit early even, and got going on the setup. It's a great setup with a little menu station, pork on a spit, chicken, beef, tacos or quesadillas, all the fillings (including pineapple to go with the pork!) and chips & salsa. So delicious. This is my second time enjoying their catering and first time booking them. They were the ONLY vendor (bartender, DJ, photo booth) that showed up when they said they would and that really gave me peace of mind as I was rushing around and decorating. Do note that the setup correspondence was largely on email and there was no contract, so I placed a lot of trust that they would show up, but they always responded quickly and since I had been at another party where they delivered high quality, I went ahead and trusted that it would be okay....and it was....and they were the ONLY ones who delivered when they said they would when I had contracts with other vendors...so believe them when they say they'll be there. EVERYONE was talking about how good the tacos/food were and I know some people took their business card for future events! They really delivered a fantastic experience and I, along with my guests, highly recommend them. read more

I asked for extra pico de Gallo, didn't get any. The churros were nine bucks and TINY. The beans had a very weird vinegar taste. The ambiance was a little disappointing- kind of felt like a fast food joint- but the food was so delicious! The menu is massive and we wanted everything. My friend settled for a breakfast burrito and a crunchy chicken taco, another friend got the chicken tortilla soup and I got the land and sea burrito (chicken inside and grilled shrimp on top). I ordered a burrito from here i was actually impressed. The red sauce they give you is very flavorful and goes well with the burrito. I also ordered an horchata (rice water) it was amazing! Unfortunately, the service was not the best. The cashier who helped me misunderstood what i ordered over the phone and instead of chips she gave me an order of fries. When i tried to explain to her that i ordered a side of chips to go with my side of beans she wasn't very happy. She got defensive and continued to give me attitude stating they give everyone chips with their order. Well not restaurant gives out chips so i was unaware either way i wanted more for my coworkers side of beans. I cannot say enough great things about the food here. My husband and I are remodeling our kitchen. During this time we were a week and a half without our stove and sink and had to eat out. We ordered Mi Casa everyday. Every meal was memorable and we went deep into the menu. Some of my absolute favorites are; Chicken Flautas, deep fried shredded Chicken with a few pieces of corn inside served with guacamole and sour cream. Then we also loved the Steak Torta. A Steak sandwich with melted cheese, grilled onions, tomato, avocado, the bread grilled to perfection topped with a spicy aioli. I also love the Shrimp Torta. This sandwich comes with fried Shrimp, Lettuce Tomato, red onion, a Spicy aioli, on crispy grilled bread. Both come with fries, but, I get mine with a salad. The salad is baby greens with chunks of fresh Mexican cheese, a handful of roasted pepitas, and a creamy dressing. Quite literally every meal was fantastic. Everything the Chef makes here tastes homemade and done with such care. Waitstaff Johanna and Priscilla are wonderful and this place is outstanding! read more

We booked Mi Casa Cafe to cater a birthday party for 90 people last weekend. We had a wonderful experience with Ingrid and Alvaro. They were professional, easy to work with and very nice! They arrived on time, set up everything in one location only to have Mother Nature take over with an extremely windy night. They were able to move everything to a better location while we enjoyed our party. The food was delicious! They boxed up leftovers and cleaned up everything. I was even able to book one of the staff members last minute to stay on longer to help clean up during the party. We look forward to using Mi Casa Cafe for future events! read more

Lucky me, this place happened to be in the neighborhood where I got my car serviced the other day. With hours to kill, I had to find somewhere to go. Mi Casa to the rescue - a perfect little oasis in a desert of auto shops and service stations! The waitresses were super friendly; nothing but patient as I asked for a refill on my coffee 5-6 times without ordering food. After an hour or two, I decided to order something to eat. There are lots of breakfast and lunch options - both traditional American or Mexican. They even do mimosas (and other drinks)! I went the lunch route and ordered the 7 seafood soup. OMFG - it was SO good. There was almost an entire crab in there, several large prawns, mussels, clams, and a couple types of soft, tender, juicy fish, plus carrots, zucchini, and onions. The broth was so flavorful, fresh, and light, and on the side was a bowl with a giant piece of avocado, chopped cilantro, red onion, lime, and jalapenos to add to the soup. For all that it was only $12.95 - and I was stuffed afterwards. This particular part of San Rafael probably isn't high on most people's list of places to go, but it's worth the trip to have food this good. read more

So I have lived in San Rafael for more than half my life and I have only, just today, tried Mi Casa Cafe. Great food, cafe and bar seating, clean, nice people, 2 TV's for sports watching, large portions and affordable prices. They also advertise all you can eat breakfast on Sun $12.95. WOW... how can they do that. I would say that Mi Casa is up there with the other local Mex staples like Picante and El Palmar. I had the wet burrito $9.75 with chicken, it had lots of fresh grilled chicken, pinto beans and was covered with delicious red sauce. It was way more than I could eat so I took half home for dinner. Wow. Got take out from here. Food was good but literally the worst take out experience of my life. I should have checked my order before I left since I had to tell the woman who handed me my bag that my desert and drink hadn't been packed. I get home and they'd given me two al pastor tacos when I'd ordered one al pastor and one carnitas. I don't really like al pastor but was trying to switch up from my carnitas so to get home without a carnitas taco was a bummer - especially when I'd double checked I was getting one of each when placing my order. So I call up and tell them what happened. They're going to make me another taco with carnitas. I ask for a crispy one because that was good. I drive back and...wait for it...they hand me a regular carnitas taco. They can't even get the second taco that I drove back for right. At this point I'm annoyed and the woman "helping" me starts giving me attitude. Like I said...wow. I understand mistakes happen but if someone's driving back to pick up a second order and you screw that one up too you should probably be nice about it. This is a very cute, family-run Mexican eatery. We enjoy their caldos which are more like broths than soups with fresh seafood. They cater both to the Mexican and American customers, so we got mixed up once and made the mistakes to order the American side of the things and got fries as a side. I often use my grandmothers recipes for cooking traditional Mexican dishes. I have visited many restaurants that have come close to the taste and authenticity of my family recipes. This restraunt took me back to my childhood with its taste. I almost believed my grandmother was back in the kitchen when I started eating! We ordered the crispy beef taco with no cheese (I'm allergic), breakfast burrito, and a burrito bowl. The crispy beef tacos corn tortilla was fried to a crispy perfection. It was oily and greasy at all. The meat was tender and it came with flavorful re fried beans, guacamole, and pico de gallo. It would have definitely been a filling dinner if I had ordered 2 tacos. The breakfast burrito was filled to the brim with eggs, bacon, potatoes, cheese, bell peppers, and onions in a large flour tortilla. The burrito bowl was filled with tasty Spanish rice, refried beans, lettuce, tender carnitas, pico del Gallo, and corn salsa. The bowl was so filling we could only finish half of it! We had 2 Pacifico beers while waiting for our dinner which was relaxing and refreshing. They have quite an extensive Mexican beer selection. The restraunt itself was casual in set up. You order at the counter and pay first then sit. We took our food to go after we finished our beers. The price for 3 dishes and 2 beers was 30 dollars after tax. Great authentic Mexican food for a great price we will definitely be back as soon as possible! read more

But if you do go there I recommend the Cubano. The eggs, the polenta the beans and the three side sauces with the chips that come with it is superb. The waiter is the best.
