Newly remodeled Mi Casa is disappointing! Number one reason is the noise level. When the bus boys throw the plates into the tubs the noise echos thru the restaurant and is amplified because there is no longer any carpet to soften the noise. Number two the decor does not match it looks like it's half Denny's half Taco Bell. The third the bar is now visible to everyone. Fourthly, food prices are higher. And lastly, the owner, manager is not very customer oriented. We walked in to be seated and he looked at us like what do you want? Did not say hi welcome nothing. Grabbed two menus and we followed him. Not a peep no enjoy your meal nothing. We won't be back. read more

I could not agree with Matt L.'s review more. When Mi Casa did their previous remodel, a few years ago, and made it lighter, it took me awhile to get used to the brighter room, which I eventually did. I hoped beyond hope that this remodel would not do exactly what happened. The comfy, cozy booths were gone and the cafeteria looking tables, with the bright lights and walls with all the cool Mexican decorations replaced with weird paintings completely changed the feeling that Mi Casa was known for. I'm not sure that even the younger generations are happy with how bright the bar is. Sometimes it's nice to have a darker room, to wind down in and enjoy a drink. The food is still fabulous, as well as the service and the floor, minus the carpet, was a good choice. But ...Sadly, I don't get that same comforting feeling that I used to get before the remodel. We LOVE Mi Casa! My family and I head to Mi Casa pretty regularly because we love it that much! My son even said if he could give it 50 stars he would! The food is cheesy and delicious. Not to mention the portion sizes are huge and the prices are beyond reasonable. Don't forget to get a margarita- they're great! Service at Mi Casa is always on par as well... We especially love Shasta! Overall everyone is friendly, the food is delicious, you are served quickly, and the restaurant is family friendly. What more could you ask for? read more

Extremely rude waitress Mariela!!! Worse than I have ever had!!! Told me to drive down the street to Trader Joe's to get a bag of lettuce if I thought the salad at Mi Casa was too expensive!! Mi Casa is hands down my favorite Mexican Restaurant! I've been coming for over 10 years. They just completed a renovation and I have to say I love the refresh. Ryan thoughtfully kept some original classics while giving the space a more open feel. Shasta is the Best server I've ever encountered. She truly anticipates my needs. My glass is never empty. She's memorized my order which rotates between a few options. So much that she'll ask "don't you want a chile verde enchilada with your order." Juan the bartender makes the best drinks. This really does pain me to say this. Since the remodel I have been twice just so I can give a fair review. I really don't like the new look, I think people of Costa Mesa/Newport really value restaurants that have been a consistent in the community. It doesn't even feel the same anymore unfortunately. Prior we would go at least once a month. Their is new staff I don't recognize, thank God for some of the original staff that are carrying the costumer service aspect. The food is the same and I really appreciate that they didn't change the menu, but it really doesn't feel like the same place I have been going to as a kid. I wish they just did a mild update and left it the way it was. Don't fix what's not broken. Will probably go back cause it's comfort food but probably not as often. read more

I've been going to Mi Casa for years and I'm finally writing a review. It's a great Mexican restaurant with tasty drinks and delicious food. You can't go wrong with what you order. My personal favorites are the shrimp burrito, the Baja fish tacos, and the spinach enchiladas with queso sauce. Their complimentary chips and salsa are very good! They always keep them coming. First the positive I was there at 2:30 in the afternoon today which is Friday 1/17/ The server was adorable she was very happy to serve anything you wanted but my mistake as I ordered a crunchy shredded beef taco which have typically been really great in my past experiences but today was very disappointing for there was no crunch in the taco shell it was not crunchy at all and rubbery like a dog's chew toy I was being polite by asking her to give me a soft shell flour tortilla instead which she did everything I asked she was great but back there in the kitchen wow there was so much cheese and shredded lettuce on this taco you couldn't even see where the meat was In addition to the taco being cold and rubbery I can taste the rancid oil I am totally modified by this experience for I have been going there for years it's never been the same since Covid Careful rancid seed oil is really bad for your health and I should've known better and now I definitely do Her service was great and the drinks were good but the food was thumbs down read more

Really disappointing lately. When I order Door Dash the last 5 times my order is wrong. Tonight we ordered dinner looking forward to good Mexican food on a Sunday night. I ordered a Grande burrito with carne asada with half red and half green sauce. Inside it should have had carne asada, beans, rice, sour cream and cheese. Here's what I got...a grande bean burrito in green sauce. JUST BEANS! $20 for a bean burrito?!?! Ridiculous. I called and the girl that answered said "oh sorry, we are busy". Really? Your busy so that's an OK excuse to make mistakes - and it isn't the first time! This restaurant is so disappointing. As soon as I walked in, I knew this wasn't going to be good. The entire place is filthy. Food and trash all over the floor, carpet looks like it's 30+ years old and never seen a vacuum. On to the food....The salsa looks like a watered down cocktail sauce and taste like hot tomatoe paste. Not good at all. I ordered the enchilada and chile relleno. The absolute worst version of both that I've ever tried. The enchilada was hard and flavorless, the chile relleno was more like a batter omelet. I literally cut over half of it before finding a sad little pepper hidden inside, the sauce on it was terrible too. My wife got albondigas soup, looked at tasted like puke. The only 2 things that were good were the waitress, and the beer was atleast cold. I drove over 20 minutes on a recommendation and think my buddy had to have been black out drunk to enjoy this food. read more

I'm confused. How did this come from Mi Casa? Delivery meals used to always be in round containers with silver-colored lids. The beans used to have lots of very unhealthy, yummy cheese and the rice looked better too. Now we're getting Styrofoam, no cheese and it just doesn't taste as good. The food was good, flavored well and surprisingly the bean and cheese burrito my kiddo ordered was one of the best I've had. Mind you he added carne asada, but wow it was good! MiCasa has been one of my all time favorites for many years, we've gotten to know much of the staff, from our frequent patronage. The food is delicious and plentiful, so much so that quite a few years ago my wife and I began splitting their Chicken Tostada , which they serve in two equal portions , since we could never eat a single order by itself. Freezing cold. Tacos come with 5X more lettuce and cheese than needed. Chicken nachos were chips chicken and just a ton of yellow cheese. Steak fajitas might have 4 ounces of steak. Quac sides were a good portion. Street corn was good. Server was nice. read more

Taco Tuesday deals are $2.50 tacos from 4- close. Happy hour ends at 6. I went recently and enjoyed the crispy chicken taco but fyi it's almost $8 and it's large but a lot a lot of cheese. No complaints it was just a large portion of cheese the entire table commented on the portion. I love how they have a salsa and chip bar with water which is self serve. However they should tell you when you sit down, unless you're a local you wouldn't know. $7 margs on taco Tuesday menu but when I ordered it was $8 on the bill. Maybe they should update that... We entered the establishment accompanied by a well-trained and well-behaved seven-pound dog suitable for lunch. The restaurant was relatively unoccupied. After inquiring about the acceptability of bringing the dog inside, we were granted permission to enter. Regrettably, we made the error of placing her on a seat; however, before we could settle her, we were reprimanded sternly and instructed to remove the dog from the seat by an individual distributing chips. Due to our dietary restrictions concerning fried foods, we opted not to order chips. This was another mistake, as we were promptly informed of the issue. Consequently, the dog was placed on the floor beneath the table, and we had no food. When the waitress arrived to take our order, she advised us that we could not feed the dog any food. I questioned her as to where she observed any food for us or the dog, noting that we were ordering our meals and that only water was on our table. After placing our order, the dog remained under the table, and during our conversation, a man approached with an expression of concern and disapproval, requesting us not to feed the dog. I inquired as to what food I could possibly be feeding, considering only water was present on the table. Upon inspecting our table setup, he realized there was no food for us or anyone else. I then asked if he was the owner, as I was no longer comfortable with being told not to feed the dog without any food being served. He confirmed that he was one of the owners, observed us for a few moments, and then left. His behavior was peculiar and left me feeling uncomfortable. Subsequently, a small group gathered near the register, silently observing us. We decided to leave immediately. While the establishment appears to have potential and I understand the importance of accommodating dogs due to the owner's livelihood and health regulations, the experience was marred by excessive scrutiny and unfounded accusations. Such approaches may jeopardize customer relations. Ultimately, they lost my business that day, and in these challenging times, that is an outcome best avoided. read more
