Let me start by saying this is Mexican dining at its very best. When I saw the rating from Yelp, I was hesitant to eat here. I was so happy to be wrong about that. The food is authentic and prepared with no seed oils. They make their own tortillas fresh on site and this translates to a very addicting chips and salsa. Personally placed the napkin on my lap with tongs. Ambiance truly transported me back to Mexico with the thick drinking glasses, beautiful nailhead chairs and tables. Quality pieces of furniture. Now the food! We ordered the BLACKENED CHICKEN BURRITO which included Grilled blackened chicken breast, chipotle aioli, Oaxaca-pepper cheese, cabbage relish, crema Mexicana, in a flour tortilla topped with chile sauce & melted cheeses. Served with poblano-cilantro rice, sour cream & side of nopalitos. INCREDIBLE!!!! The nopalitos were a great addition. We also ordered BLACKENED CHICKEN TACO Blackened chicken breast, chipotle aioli & Oaxaca cheese, cabbage relish, avocado-cilantro crema & queso fresco just because. They have Taco Tuesdays , but there's not much difference in their pricing (just 50 cents off tacos... which I think is laughable) I usually go here for lunch to get their tacos! They are so savory, delicious, and are always made fresh! The potato and Al Pastor tacos are my favorite! They are always made fresh. You can get the tacos soft or crunchy. I prefer them crunchy! Their sauces are the bomb! They are so flavorful, savory, and refreshing. They almost go with anything you get in the menu! I also like their tostada salad. I loved everything about this restaurant! My husband and I came here on a Friday night with no reservation and were sat immediately. Our waiter was very friendly and funny. We had chips and salsa as an appetizer and shared a coconut margarita - all delicious!! My husband had 3 tacos and I had the taquitos with chicken, again, all flavorful and delicious. We ordered the chips & salsa & beans starter which was very good. Yummy chips & we really liked the jalapeño dip too. Update: Just went back w my father and my son for their Taco Tuesday. We started with an order of Queso Fundido. It was yummy but should be served with a large serving spoon to be able to divy up the gooey cheesy eats. All three of us ordered the Secret Taco which was a delicious Chile Verde. Super tender pork and perfect tomatillo salsa. My 88 year old father finished off three of them while my son and I also ordered entrees. My son selected the Rosa Moreno which was a huge Quesadilla and I chose the Chicken Enchiladas en Mole. When ai reviewed this place about 1.5 years c ago, I was surprised at how much cleaner the place was and also how good its chili relleno was. However the quality of the food seems to have deteriorated since a few months ago. In fact, the relleno we had this afternoon was watery and lukewarm. The wait service was average. My friends recommended this place and I will say that the food didn't disappoint. It had a lot of flavor and just enough spice. They have a pan dulce platter on the menu but they didn't have any. We ended up ordering churros with a chocolate sauce. They were fresh and warm. They have outdoor dining only which is fine since the weather was beautiful. The place feels very authentic - cute but not fancy in a strip mall. We had queso fundido and a couple tacos. The salsas come with a jalepenos salsa, red salsa, and bean dip. Visited this boutique Mexican restaurant nestled in the heart of Newport beach's port street neighborhood after about 10 years. It doesn't seem much from outside in between the ace hardware store and a dry cleaning store but once you walk in, you feel like you are in a middle of an authentic restaurant in the middle of Santa Ana. There is a nice large bar in the middle and a semi open kitchen. I had the cucumber jalapeño margarita that had a very nice kick. I also ordered the salad with blackened chicken. Wife had the shrimp fajita and my son has the carnitas. The other son has the combo taco and enchiladas. The food arrived a bit late but everything tasted amazing and of high quality. Prices are reasonable and we will back again. The only things that seemed to be priced very high was the guacamole on appetizer menu that goes for $18, even though it comes with a bean dip and salsa, it is too much. My friends and I came here on the last night for Newport Beach Restaurant Week. They had a $20 3 course prix fixe menu that looked very tempting. For starters, we got a complimentary serving of taquitos and roasted tomato soup. The taquito was good, nothing amazing. The tomato soup was much better-very creamy and decadent with a hint of spiciness. For entree, I selected the steak fajitas which came with rice, refried beans, guacamole, and corn tortillas. Their tortillas was fresh and hot. It went well with the rest of the dish. Dessert was also great. Their flan was very thick and rich. The churro was bomb-just enough balance of crunch and soft dough. Overall, it was a pleasant dining experience well worth $20. Service was very attentive. Restaurant was not busy and it was a great environment to talk over your meals. Will consider coming back for taco Tuesday ($1.75 per taco)! read more

I will say the food gets a 5, but the service and just overall ambiance gets a 0! This brings their score down to a #2 when it could have easily been a 5 if minor things were fixed. Sorry but when you run a business the customer is and should be the priority. Our party arrived when the restaurant was empty. We wanted to sit outside, next thing I know my friend tells me a server told her the entire restaurant was reserved and only one table was left, an L shaped one in the corner where you couldn't talk to each other. Excuse me? No. First off, they say they do not take any reservations whatsoever. So like what gives? Do I need to be a party of 30 to make one? Its rude. That is strike #1. Then seating a party of six at an L shaped table when dozens of tables are open? No. A more managerial person was flagged down and he moved us to a better table. Ok so the restaurant is still empty.... Strike #2 We were told more people and the larger party would be arriving two hours later. Ok great, we can get out before its packed... (you'd think!) The waitress came back about 10 minutes later to get our orders. She was rather slow (mind you only 2 other tables were there at this time). We ordered some chips and dip. Those were excellent. We finally put our food in (even though we knew what we wanted about 5 min after we sat down). Then we waited another 30 minutes for the food to come out. By the time it came out we had downed two chip baskets. So already this is quite slow when the restaurant is NOT busy yet. Strike #3 So arriving at 3:35, our food didn't come out until 4:15. Sorry but that is not appropriate. If the lady was not so slow and the cook not a snail as well our food should have been on our table at 3:50-4:00 at the latest, unless you ordered something extra special! Strike #4 All of our food tasted great (so plus for the cook even if he is a snail). This is when it goes downhill. This restaurant has some ambiance, or well SHOULD have some. What do they begin to play? Children's Christmas music. Yeah kids choir stuff that was super cheesy and weird. Like I get its the holidays but you guys are a mexican restaurant, you can play mexican christmas music or something.... without a children's vibe. It felt like I went to some bad church choir thing with kids. It just killed the atmosphere of the restaurant entirely....well right about when this was happening... (our server disappeared as soon as two more tables arrived). We decided to order some dessert. Strike #5 So we waited (I'm not joking) another twenty minutes for slow poke to show up, who only showed up after we had to flag them down. So now the restaurant is packed - like becoming jam packed (which we were trying to avoid in the first place due to germs and all). We put our dessert order in and asked for the bill as well because it was so slow. Then we had to wait another 30 minutes for dessert. This is inappropriate! Our dessert didn't come out until after 5:15, and we had to ask another waiter to check on where everything was..... We basically downed our desert to get out of there because now it was packed out.. (remember how we wanted to sit outside?). Strike #6 So when we were leaving we looked and yeah.. No one was seated outside. That large party wasn't coming until quite a bit later. Strike #7 Sorry but that is rude. My suggestion to this place is get better management. If a large party is coming ok fine, but don't block off a whole section for 3 hours when no one is there. I didn't see anything "special" about these party tables other than a cheap white paper thrown over the table. Like really.....eyeroll. Hire more waitresses who can actually wait on more than one table at a time (oh and aren't making up stories about how the entire restaurant is full then seating people at an L shaped table). If you can't hire enough or don't have enough for a day, ok OWNER wherever you are--- get your rear in gear out there and serve the food yourself to make up for the lack of staff. OR, maybe shut down for the weekend?! hmm?? And fix the gross bathroom it smell liked a poop-stoop vommitted in there. I get that it was "out of order" but that is something that needs to be done before guests arrived. Would i go back? Yes probably at like 2pm and hopefully when the entire restaurant isn't "reserved" =p..... I do like the food here, but not around the holidays ever again, please get more servers and new management. Wonderful place for some great tacos. Had a salmon, steak and bacon, and monk fish tacos. Super tasty. We also had some roasted corn that was super yummy. Service was impeccable.
