We were at Newport Beach last Saturday and walked along the boardwalk when we passed by Super Panga. The lively atmosphere immediately caught our attention, so we decided to go in and give it a try. I'm glad we did because it turned out to be a great choice. One of the cashiers told us to find a table first and then come back to place our order. We were lucky enough to get a window seat, which gave us the perfect opportunity to enjoy the sunset while having dinner. The food exceeded my expectations. Usually, restaurants in tourist areas don't offer particularly memorable food, but Super Panga was definitely an exception. The California Burrito ($15) was delicious with generously portion, we couldn't even finish it. The Seafood Burrito ($15) was equally impressive and packed with flavor. We also ordered two Taco Plates ($14 each), which come with two corn tortilla tacos, rice, and beans. For our tacos, we chose the Al Pastor, Carne Asada, Blackened Mahi Mahi, and Crispy Cod. The Al Pastor was delicious, featuring flavorful pork, onions, pineapple, and cilantro. The Carne Asada was very good as well. The Blackened Mahi Mahi was my favorite. The combination of cabbage, cilantro, pickled onions, and mahi mahi made it juicy, fresh, and satisfying. The Crispy Cod was also excellent. The Street Corn "Esquites" ($9) was OK. The Chips, Salsa & Guacamole ($10) were tasty and served in a generous portion that we couldn't finish. They also have a full bar and offer a large selection of cocktails, which added to the fun and vacation-like atmosphere. The service was great, and we absolutely loved our window seat. The staff were friendly and we got seated right away. It was Us open season and it was great that they had it on the TVs. It wasn't too loud but it also was t busy yet. Now to the food, the reason for the 3 stars. My ceviche was just ok, nothing impressive and have for sure had best. Looks like Dory's was open but under construction so we went next door. I wasn't sure if the food was prepared here or there but it was good. I had two chorizo and egg breakfast tacos with beans and rice, my wife had taquitos. Great seating on the rail to watch the people come and go. You order and pay and take your number flag to your seat and shortly, piping hot and with the smile the food is delivered. We ate at Dory's Deli, next door, but they were working on their kitchen so they were using food from this place. My son got a quesadilla, my husband got the Cali burrito, and I got the bean and cheese burrito with extra cheese and with rice. It was delish! It has been my favorite burrito that I have been able to find while being in OC. We would definitely get food from here again. Absolutely horrible experience. The customer service was terrible from start to finish. The staff was rude,disrespectful, and unprofessional! I would fire them all if I was the owner! To make matters worse, the food was not properly cooked, which is a serious health and safety issue. The most disgusting part was finding a black hair inside my burrito. That is completely unacceptable and shows a lack of basic food handling standards. You can tell by watching the cooks and staff no one is properly trained, cooking with bare hands and no hair nets for one single worker! Our friend brought us to Super Panga. She said she liked to come here after work to relax while sitting towards the water people watching with a tasty meal!! This small restaurant gets crowded quickly. As you enter the door, that's where you order your meal and pay before finding a seat. They will hand you a number and bring your order to your table. We ended up sitting towards the back. It was nice to chat with a meal knowing no one will be passing you by like if we were sitting towards the front area. Overall, we had a great evening. The restaurant is small, but popular. The decor is upbeat and colorful. The bathrooms are gender neutral and clean. The parking is crazy. WORST DINING EXPERIENCE OF MY ENTIRE LIFE!! DON'T WASTE YOUR MONEY & PEACE ON THIS MESSED UP PLACE!! It should've been a sign when the service was horrible as soon as we walked in. Staff didn't know what they were doing from not knowing basic questions about their menu to messing up my order. Most of all, I'm ENTIRELY DISGUSTED AND HORRIFIED by how the awful manager handled today's incident. With a manager like that, no wonder the place is a complete shxt show! AFTER we sat down, an extremely obnoxious customer with a group of 5 or so decided to sit right next to us. This belligerent customer became excessively drunk very quickly far beyond a capacity she could handle. She was screaming, cursing and yelling - from complaints about roommates, work situations, other life problems to laughing and cackling louder than any witch you could ever imagine. Mind you, this is a Tuesday evening at 8 PM with families and normal productive members of society. Her behavior was so disruptive that on several occasions, a family with several children were startled. Not only the adults, but the kids would turn around to see where the commotion and constant loud screams were coming from. My so and I couldn't exchange a single word sitting RIGHT NEXT TO each other. I finally decided to NICELY and RESPECTFULLY ask her, "hey do you mind taking down the volume a tad bit?," to which she IMMEDIATELY yelled "NO! F**k YOU!" Followed by telling me to move if I don't like it, learn to have fun, calling me the b word, c word, stupid b, ugly, lots of f bombs and every other curse word. One of her friends also jumped in cursing at me. I told her that she should be mindful of all customers who have a right to be there too. She even OPENLY threatened to physically assault me by saying "well let's go talk in the back then" to which I DID NOT hesitate to tell her I'm a Fighter which is why I use my words. She responded by quickly playing victim as if she didn't just threaten to assault me and then backpedaling from threatening a fighter, saying "nobody cares". Otherwise, I guarantee you her next move would be to put her hands on me had I not said that. She was yelling random unintelligible insults and curse words the ENTIRE exchange, so I eventually matched her energy and gave it right back to her because I will absolutely NOT tolerate that level of abusive behavior. Unfortunately, it was a ruined evening for the family - having them leave the restaurant but I also WILL NOT set an example to those kids that the resolution to dealing with bullies that threaten you is being a victim and taking the high road. The real problem here wasn't even the inebriated, incoherent and nearly incapacitated woman. It was the actions of the manager that were beyond appalling and outrageous. After several minutes, he finally stepped in and approached ONLY ME to scold me with his back turned away from the group, pretending like he couldn't hear them. He told me I'm the one being disrespectful, disruptive, acting immature, told me to MOVE seats. I tried to bargain with him that I was there first, that I asked nicely before it escalated to the point of me defending myself BACK against them. He then told me to LEAVE and kicked me out with a to-go box for the food I couldn't finish. ALL WHILE the drunk woman and her minion friends continued cursing at me with insults RIGHT THERE in front of him while he played deaf. He then turns to them to apologize for the situation acting like they did NOTHING wrong - riling up and encouraging the drunk woman and her loser friend to laugh and bully me some more on my way out! I told him this has everything to do with the fact that we ordered zero drinks and that he is rewarding her nasty and out of control behavior in a PUBLIC non-bar/club environment. Having no decency to be unbiased and do the right thing, all due to the fact that he made a few extra dollars off of some drunk losers. WHAT A FOOL! As we were leaving, almost every single person there stopped me to say I was in the right, said "don't feel bad it's okay", thanked me for what I did, etc. One couple even told me, "they kicked out the wrong person". Whoever that manager was tonight, SHAME ON YOU for running your business like this! It says everything about you as a person. How you handled things tonight, you showed it only takes a few dollars to sell all your MORALS and DECENCY. As for the food itself, when I ordered the employee forgot to give me a number where we waited several minutes until I noticed. The girl at the counter looked visibly annoyed and irritated, acting like it was me that made the mistake. Then when our order came, I was missing extra things that I PAID EXTRA for. Even then, I didn't mind & I gave a tip when I paid. The food was also overpriced for the quality - $45 order for a burrito, coke, 2 tacos and a side of rice and beans. In short, this was an amazing beach front casual dining experience. Imagine if a pop-up margarita bar and a taco truck backed up to the beach and that's essentially what you've got at Super Panga. The young lady working the register and bar was energetic, helpful, and quick. The food itself was the star of the show, however. The California burrito was simply the best of its kind I've ever had. Perfectly cooked and seasoned carne asada, crispy fries, queso, guacamole, cilantro and onions. Simple recipe executed flawlessly. Could have eaten two, and I may well go back before heading back north. The birria taco was made right, with a cheese crust that a lactose-intolerant person might literally die for. The shredded beef was a bit sweet for my liking (though that is the way it is supposed to be made) but the wife loved it. The pollo taco was as it should be: never the star of the show, but a sound role player to round out the taco plate. The drinks were superb as well.
