Mi Casa is like a diner that serves Mexican food, at Costa Mesa prices (not what you see on the menu pictures on Yelp). It's been around for decades, and they definitely have not replaced the booth seating. It's lumpy and hard to find a spot in the booth that's not completely worn down, or lopsided. I see a lot of people saying that the service was awful, but in our case, he was rushed, but attentive and pleasant. As for the food, well, the salsa was very Ragu-like, a thick paste, sweet and with oregano.The burrito has a good sauce but the steak was chewy and tasted a bit old. The Chile Verde was bland and over cooked- like it had been in a crock pot for quite a while, and very, very watery. I recommend staying away from the House Margarita. I couldn't taste anything other than the very cheap tequila- so much so, that I only got through half of it and couldn't force myself to finish (Tragic, right?? I'm a terrible person). I know a lot of people like the nostalgia of going here as a kid, but as a new customer, I think that there are some serious rose-colored glasses going on! read more

Happy Hour Drinks until 6pm and then from 8pm til close!) and I was very happy to sit once again in the Burro Room after all this time and be served by Briana. She's fun, her voice sounds like sunshine and her drinks are magic. Briana talked me into finally getting the Drunken Burrito - the big one with the borracha sauce. Visited today with my friends. I am a bit of a health nut so I ordered a salad for a better choice. I had to dig through 2" of shredded cheese to get to the salad itself. Honestly I really wish that they would have had a healthier choice even though I am aware that this is a Mexican food restaurant. The mahi tacos are disgrace to fish tacos! $17 for two tacos that contain mostly tasteless cabbage and a something that looks more like a fish stick than grilled tuna...also tasteless....just beyond disappointed! Damian at mi casa was horrible. Slow service and not very friendly, not approachable. You're almost scared to even ask a question, he was very unprofessional. As a bartender myself I would never conduct myself in the way he has today. Sorry I'm not a Newport Beach housewife but I'm a paying customer. Who tips very well. I would go elsewhere. Ordered take out from Doordash. Three tacos and one soup. Their food is not bad just having problems with balancing the ingredients. The three tacos we had were beef, shrimp, and fish. Beef taco is the best amount all. The lettuce inside is really fresh, have a little sweet taste. They put way too much cheese inside the beef taco. Like the cheese is enough to make two more pure cheese tacos. Beef is great but taste too light when with the lettuce. Maybe a little heavier sauce on the beef or less lettuce so they can balance out. Fish taco is soso. The outside layer is too soggy, fish meat is not bad. I like the onions, bell peppers, and the sauce on the veges that makes me think their salad might be really good? Lol Shrimp taco we just ate as a salad. Shrimp, mango, onions, yea that's more like a salad. And the price is almost $8 for just one taco. The portion is not small but doesn't worth 8 though. Can't understand the reason. Maybe $3 is for putting extra extra cheese inside lol. Albondigas Soup: too much salt. Even that biscuits became too salty right after we put them in. Wow, aside from parking being tight, this is our new choice for Mexican food in Costa Mesa. When we returned the waitress extradinaire named Shasta remembered us from months b4, what we ordered for beverages, and where we sat. Awesome service. Atmosphere is subdued and private so you can meet and talk, or just enjoy the game. We sat in the bar so we could watch MNF on the TV. My GF had Enchiladas and my order was the pork chili with sides, and the local Amber. Excellent food, and too much, so we had a togo tray for tomorrow's lunch! Very old interior that could use a renovation. Food is average. The salsa is pureed almost like a tomato sauce. The guacamole is blended smooth like a paste. The queso fundido was surprisingly somewhat flavorless. The Cadillac Margarita was average and tasted like it could not possibly be much better than the house margarita. I scanned the code for the drink menu and it launched the website but the page was blank and no menu appeared. I notified the staff and asked for a printed drink menu, but they didn't have one, so I didn't bother ordering a second drink. read more

I've been a huge fan of this place since I first moved to Costa Mesa. and I'm surprised I haven't reviewed it until now. But let me just say this, if you are looking for some of the best most authentic Mexican food in Orange county this is the place. One of the first things you'll notice when you sit down is the tables. I am almost 100% sure that this was a steakhouse before it became a Mexican restaurant, as the tables look like laminated steakhouse tables from about the 1960s or '70s. No matter, as it just adds to the eclectic charm of the place. But the real star of the show is the food. First of all, the chips and salsa are absolutely amazing so try not to eat too many bowls of chips before you order your food because you won't have any room left. The salsa is I would say medium mild, which is just perfect because you'll probably want to have a margarita or two while you're waiting for your food. I'm not saying that because service is slow, I'm saying that because the margaritas and chips and salsa are so freaking amazing! One of my favorite things to get there other than the fajitas which you have to try, is the carnitas plate. Their carnitas is really one of the standards by which a lot of other restaurants should be judged, as it is absolutely done to perfection. The carne asada is amazing, the chili relleno is amazing, okay I sound like a fanboy, but everything I've had there has been utterly fantastic! Bottom line? I could go on and on about how amazing this place is, but you should really go check it out yourself. This is a warm old school white guy Mexican restaurant for sure. Food is okay, staff is friendly and the restaurant has that 70s warm vibe. I come here for the cheese primarily, that and the nostalgia. Everything on the menu is awesome, but I stick to my tried and true hard shell shredded beef tacos, smothered in enough cheese to feed a small village. The decor is exactly the same as when I first came to Mi Casa around 30 years ago, and while I'd usually shudder at that thought, it feels familiar every time. The last time I was here was years and years ago. The food back then was awful, greasy and smothered in piles and piles of cheese. I stopped in here with an out of town friend who wanted Mexican food, I I voted for Gracias Madre but she wanted to come here. The food is average but it's well above what it was years ago. I had a chicken taco which was pretty good after I poured tons of the salsa on it that they bring to the table with your chips. The salsa however is pretty bland, some cilantro would really kick it up a bit. I had a salad and the corn salad instead of the rice and beans and I have to say that they were both delish. The corn salad was especially tasty & the salad came with a yummy avocado dressing. My friend said her enchiladas were not very good & the tortillas were dry and old. The chips were good and unsalted which is exactly the way I like them. The interior is very dated but I like that it looks like an old school Mexican restaurant. Mi Casa is not a hip, trendy Newport/Mesa establishment so there was not a Botox'ed bimbo cougar to be seen. As far as I know it's been in the same location for forever and a lot of people really like the food here. I just think it could be better. My grandma, aunt and I went to this place today for lunch and the service and food was absolutely amazing! My aunt and I got the mahi tacos 100/10 so amazing!! And my grandma got the quesadilla with chicken and holy cow it was bigger than her head! Literally half the plate. It was crazy. So so yummy good. Pleased with the place and service. Mi Casa is an older (very old) Mexican restaurant on 17th. I really like the older vibe of the restaurant itself, but the quality of the meat (steak and chicken) really take the experience of the restaurant down. Once seated you receive complementary chips and salsa for the table, great! Now the quality of the food, again I feel like this could be a 5 star restaurant if the quality of their meat was higher. I tried both the steak and chicken and it was tough and greasy, it's the type of food you eat and wonder, "Should I keep eating this? I'm not sure how it's going to make me feel later on..." I would return, but I would stick to menu items that allow me to substitute beans with the steak or chicken. Their Spanish rice was pretty good, a little dry like it had been cooked hours earlier in the day and then served, but it was flavorful. I also tried the arozz con pollo and I will say the sautéed vegetables where some of the best I've had as a side to arroz con pollo. I'm not sure I would recommend Mi Casa, I might try a few other restaurants around before returning again. read more

What happened to MiCasa? The waitress was very "in a hurry" , pushy and unfriendly. She gave us (6)the full "dinner" menu and only provided the lunch menu (1/2 price less) when asked. Food was cold and soggy. No separate checks so a bunch of women arguing about the split, only benefitting the waitress. So disappointed with the poor food quality, prices and poor service. Recently stopped by this place and man, their salsa is simply the one of the best salsa I ever had. Make sure to ask your waiter for some hot salsas and just feel the burn. Amazing customer service and runners are very prompt. Enjoyed their California burritos and their limitless chips are simply heavenly.
