This is a small, unassuming restaurant with big flavors! I came here on a Tuesday night, and even then, it was fairly busy. Luckily they take reservations over phone. We ordered: Seafood Paella 9/10- lots of shellfish! The flavor was great and tasted great as leftovers too! Just wish to more of a crispy bottom. Gambas al ajillo 7.5/10 - shrimp in oil, the shrimp were fresh, comes with bread, good appetizer but small portion Mi espana Salad 8/10 - fresh and great balance to our heavy meal. Just wish there was more jamon. It's in a plaza so there's plenty of parking. The restaurant is also BYOB! The waiter was great and service was quick. I'd love to come back again and try their other dishes!

Tiny but the food blows you away. My family loves coming here for paella and the drive is worth it every time. We also love their sandwiches and tapas plates. The owner is very warm and service is attentive. The value and the quality is fantastic!

I've been here twice so far and I can't wait for my next meal back here! This spot is BYOB too, paella's take about 45 min, so order a bunch of tapas while you wait Ambiance: - small space seats about 24 people, there's also outdoor picnic bench style seating for the warmer days - cozy, inviting Service - friendly and knowledgeable staff - I loved that our waiter asked us if we wanted to box up any of our uneaten tapas right before the paella came out, to let us have more room on the table Food - pan con tomate: simply fresh tomatoes with oil and garlic on sliced baguette. Loved the fresh taste of tomato and olive oil - patatas del chef- potato's and chorizo was tasty and the mayo sauce on top ties the dish together - Caldo Gallego Soup- hearty and perfectly seasoned. I loved the little bits of chorizo and white beans - paella mixta: star of the dinner! This portion is huge- serves about 3-;4 if you've also had other tapas. This paella is full of chicken grouper chorizo and shrimp on top. I only wish that the paella was crispier

There were 7 in our group and thought it very fortunate the restaurant wasn't too busy as its footprint isn't particularly expansive....literally just a few tables. They combined a few so we could all sit together. Ultimately the team here was very nice and accommodating to us. Our group, had varied tastes and ingredient tolerance so for the main course we ended up ordering 3 different paellas, each single order is expected to be a generous portion for two. If I recall Paellas are made to order and takes like 30mins We chose: Paella Del Mar Paella Espana Paella Vegetarian They are served hot on a large round skillet. I had a couple of scoops of each Paella and found the rice tender and fluffy fill with lots of spices/flavor. The "del Mar" was my favorite ! For appetizers we ordered and shared: Croquetas (6) Empanadas (2) vegetable Ailoi sauce Empanadas (2) chicken bravas sauce Patatas del chef Spanish meatballs Tortilla Espanola Because there were 7 of us and the appetizers came at irregular intervals I can only say for sure I had a croquetas which reminded me of a breaded mash potatoe...not sure what I was expecting as I don't remember the last time I had any kind of croquet. Still, very delicious with a crispy texture. For dessert we ordered: Flan Tarta Santiago Churro de Espana We didn't all order dessert and they were not meant to be shared. I had the Churro de Espana. Which is a kind of cookie imported from Spain. I couldn't resist the idea is eating a dessert imported fr Spain...it's not like the churros one can find at a restaurant where I live. Something like a cookie. Between the 7 of us we had a lot of delicious food! And enjoyed each others company. Certainly the team at Mi Espana contributed to the atmosphere and enjoyed their food as well as attentive service. No complaints about anything and while we attended other restaurants during our time in the Princeton area all enjoyed this restaurant best. One of my favorite memories of a trip to Spain was having Paella and what I had at Mi Espana didn't tarnish the memory. Princeton is fortunate to have such a marvelous restaurant, which hope they support !

It's a nice Spanish restaurant with outdoor seating. I had their empanadas and Paella Espana. The Empanadas were nice and crisp on the outside and had good filling of beef. I wish they were a little bit more filled, as the ratio of filling to dough was a little bit off, but overall great flavor profile. The Paella Espana came out nice and hot, lots of chorizo and chicken on it. The pork on it was a little bit too big of slices compared to the chicken and chorizo. Also, the pork was under-seasoned and had flavor only when paired with the slice of lime that accompanied the dish.

I've walked by this place a few times and finally got a chance to try it and I wish I had done it sooner! The grilled octopus with veggies was absolutely amazing. The octopus was cooked perfectly and had a great texture. The veggies had a perfect charred flavor and you could tell they weren't a second thought. I also had the oxtail with roasted potatoes which was equally as delicious. The sauce wasn't overly salty and was a perfect pairing with the potatoes that had crispy exterior and fluffy inside. I'll definitely be back!! Also, the portion sizes was great!

Tapas!! What a wonderfully authentic experience here in Princeton from across the ocean. True tapas using many imported ingredients. We ordered a real spread with Paella at the end. The tapas we chose were the croquetas, papas bravas, gambas al ajillo, bacon wrapped dates and green salad. The salad was so fresh and the melon perfectly complemented the prosciutto. All of the flavors were as remembered from our time in Spain. The service also mimicked the European style. Available when needed but never rushed or overbearing. Tiny indoor space but complemented by picnic tables outside with courtyard.

Ordered take out from here. The first thing I noticed as the portion sizes are very generous. We ordered the chorizo bocadillo which came with potatas bravas and the squid ink paella for 2. The bocadillo was on a nice crusty bread with thick cut chorizo and melted cheese, tomatoes and a little thin layer of an aioli. I'd love to have this fresh but it was still very tasty after 30+ minutes of sitting in the box. The potatas bravas were also very good. It's basically fried potato's with a paprika aioli. The squid ink paella for 2 was huge. It came in a tray and was filled with squid, shrimp, white fish, scallops and mussels. It had a rich seafood flavor and came with an aioli to add to the richness. My only complaint about it was that the rice seemed to be a little overcooked. It was clumping together and somewhat mushy. Also it did not have the coveted socarrat that the best paellas have (not sure if it's because we got takeout instead of eating there). Overall I thought the food was good and would definitely come here again to dine and have the food fresh. I'm still giving it 4 stars for the value and because I think it would've tasted better had we dined in.

Back again after another great art film at the Montgomery Theater. Tonight we started off the. Aldo Gallego soup which was perfect on this dank wet cool day. Next we shared the beef empanadas, and my wife had the Spanish meatballs while I had my go to favorite, the grilled octopus Each dish was spot on, awesome flavors, fresh and great plating presentations.

We went to this small and cozy restaurant on a cold rainy night and were delighted with the service and the food. We both had the fish soup which was rich with saffron and chunks of fish and shrimp and shared a squid ink paella, which was big enough to serve four people. The food was all delicious, and the paella was an interesting experience as it was very black. We recommended it highly.

I ordered online and it was ready when i got there but there was some miscommunication at the store so i had to wait a little bit. The food was really good! I tried the paella espana which was my favorite. The octopus was also good but some pieces were hard to chew. The shrimp didnt have as much flavor as i wouldve liked and some pieces were also a little overcooked. The oxtail was very flavorful and fell right off the bone and the potatoes were well seasoned too. The order also came with some bread. Definitely will try some more things from here

We found our new favorite spot for a Spanish restaurant hidden in a corner. I usually go for saffron seafood Paella , but this time we tried the squid ink version--it looked burnt, but taste-wise, absolute freshness without a whiff of fishiness! . Also savored tender grilled octopus on crispy grilled veggies. Simple, yet it showcased the chef's skills and technique. As a daily-cooking mom, loving a dish we don't know how to make and is a rare treat. The staff were also really friendly. Reserve early; it's cozy and tends to fill up fast. But even if you wait (like us), every morsel is worth the wait! read more

Paella Mixta is yummy, decent portion size with good ratio of rice to protein. Beef empanada is crispy & tasty. Serrano ham croquetas are too mushy inside, crispy outside & can't taste ham. Went as a group of 6 and sat outside. Ordered the Paella Del Chef (Shrimp, Chicken, Seasonal Vegetables and Grouper), Beef and Chicken Empanadas, Gambas al Ajillo (shrimp in garlic sauce), Patatas del chef (lightly fried potatoes tossed with chorizo, manchego cheese, topped w/brava sauce), and Croquetas de jamón (serrano ham). We were all stuffed! Service was excellent and food outstanding. No pics as we were too busy eating however similar to online pics. read more

Small, family-operated business tucked into a strip mall. It has limited seating, but I think it goes well with the vibe of the restaurant. I definitely recommend getting a reservation because we just lunch, but it was pretty busy and some tables were already reserved for dinner service. Food was super authentic! We got the tortilla and ham croquets to share, and the portion size was plenty for two people. We even had left overs! read more

Paella and octopus were delicious and worth the wait. Also had the potato/egg tapas. I would highly suggest eating in because when I ordered paella for pickup, the paella was had started to get mushy. Service was wonderful - waitstaff was friendly and helped with recommendations. Ambiance included a small quaint place, a few tables. You couldn't do a large party due to size unless they could allow the place to be rented out. read more

I wish this place was bigger and closer to me! Everyone is so nice there. We have eaten here twice and loved it both times. It is very small so if the weather is not great there is little room inside. When the weather is nice, there is outdoor seating. We were in Barcelona last year and loved tapas! We were looking for a similar type of foods and Mi Espana delivers. Their sandwiches/Bocadillos are amazing and so large. I love the chorizo one. We also enjoyed their empanadas, their potatas brava, their croquetas. We never tried the paella so I am looking forward to returning! We didn't have enough room for the dessert but I do want to try the churros! Bring some wine and enjoy! read more

I ordered paella Del Mar they gave me a burned paella all the seafood were burned . When I told them it is over cooked and all burned they said sorry but they made me pay full price even though I tasted a bit of the big pan trying to find not burned shrimp or scallops They didn't care I paid full price for a burned meal . I will never go there again This place started offering great food but it seems now they are going downhill It was terrible meal ... terrible chef. And terrible customer service they don't deserve even a single star read more

Even though it looks too upscale to be a hole in the wall place, the food definitely tastes like it. Paella and the bocadillos are so delicious. I've never had either so while I may not have a frame of reference, I am a lover of food and I find myself thinking about their chorizo bocadilllo quite often and have returned several times to get it. Even recommended it to some friends and will be returning with some soon! read more

We confirmed a party of 8 for restaurant week. Although a busy time, the restaurant had our table set and ready to go. Mind you, this was probably half the restaurant, as it is a very small place. As soon as we were seated we ordered three of the Paella for two, which take 30-45 minutes. Appetizers, which were served quickly, were thoroughly enjoyed by our guests. The Patatas del Chef and Tortilla Española were terrific. The most intriguing meal was the Paella Negra, a fish dish with black squid rice. The texture of the rice with the squid ink was delightful. Although there was a brisk take out business, and another party of 6 being served, the staff effortlessly and patiently served us with attentiveness and speed. We only wish they had a larger dining room, although being able to watch the chefs prepare our meal from the corner table was a treat. Great experience! Authentic, certainly not a chain restaurant, even though they are associated with the Gretalia Hospitality group. Special thanks to our host and server, who attended to all our needs. read more

The food at this place is authentic and absolutely delicious. The seafood soup is generously loaded with scallops, shrimp and fish and the broth is to die for. Paellas are outstanding also. The torta is perfect...we can't get enough. Great experiences both eating in and taking out. read more

Pleasant, intimate spot, great to share with friends. There are days when you want some tapas and this hits the spot. We had jamon croquetas, chicken empanadas, vegetarian empanadas, vegetarian paella for 2 (which the three of us shared) and churros con chocolate for dessert. Everything was flavorful and well done. The chocolate with the churros was thick and rich, the way it should be. The restaurant is BYO which adds to its appeal. The menu is compact but sufficient. I am looking forward to going back and trying the other menu offerings. Keep up the good work! read more

Big surprise from a small place Procaccini has a big hit chef Jose Días does wonders at his small kitchen potato leek soup was right on target, everyone on our party of six agreed about how tasty the chicken and beef empanadas were my Spanish tortilla was very good as was the fish and crustaceans soup very appetizing son in law said and last but not least my better half's favorite the paella marinera wish she shared with our daughter and they both agreed that it was probably the best they have ever had and to close this wonderful dining experience the churros with hot chocolate for dipping wish our eight year old granddaughter and the rest of us agreed were wonderful the wait staff was very attentive and friendly and chef Días came out said helo. Now will just wait for warmer weather and pay them another visit and sit outside. read more

I went it having eaten paella before and nvr had meat so dry. The chicken was so dry I got what looked like two ribs on there was not sure if that was supposed to be the pork, where was the chorizo? The rice was brownish and not that tru color from saffron, I would not go back here for sure read more

Amazing food! The paella was perfectly cooked and flavored. The Spanish torta was creamy and delicious. We went on a cold evening and it was just lovely to be in a small restaurant with people having a great time. Chef came out and chatted with everyone. We were transported to Spain. read more

Absolutely fantastic authentic home cooked Spanish food!! Totally blew us away! The caldo gallego (soup with greens, pork, white beans & potatoes), sopa pescado (seafood soup), chicken paella, pulpo (octopus with vegetables), and torta dessert were all fantastic! The cooks clearly love what they do and you can taste it! Better than the Spanish restaurants in NYC, N. NJ & Philly and very reasonably priced! Can't wait to go back!! read more

Two of us went for for lunch this past Saturday (7/1) and the food was fantastic. The service on the other hand was non existent. We walked in and there were three kids standing there, the male in the group looked at us and said nothing. When I said to him "table for two please" he pointed to a table and said "sit there" bothered I even came through the door. We sat and needed to ask for a menu, we needed to track him down to have him take our order and request water. The food came quickly and was just dropped on the table with nothing said. He never came back to see how things were and we needed to get up twice to request more water. The place is small and not very busy, but the three servers were more focused on hanging out in the kitchen instead of taking care of their customers. When it came for the check, I once again needed to request it. Additionally, young girls hanging in the kitchen in crop tops is not appealing. I have eaten at many other restaurants owned by this company and I have never had such a poor experience. read more

We went to Mi Espana to order takeout for dinner to ask about gluten free options due to Celiac Disease. The gentleman at the register was very knowledgeable about the gluten free items on the menu. He also confirmed with the chef that the items we ordered were gluten free. We ordered the Paella Espana, Tortilla Espanola and Patatas del Chef which were gluten free. My spouse (not GF) got the beef Empanadas and Croquetas. The food was delicious and the portions were very generous. Will definitely go back again. read more

The side salad was also surprisingly good. We ended up returning later for happy hour, which takes place in the room to the right of the hostess stand. I highly recommend stopping by for drinks and bites if you're in the mood for classic cocktails and solid food. Happy hour is first come, first served and limited to the bar only (around 15 seats total). We arrived right when it started, and when we left about 40 minutes later, the bar was about half full. Service was pleasant and attentive. The food was overpriced for sitting in a bar. $30 for a bowl of ramen! (I don't know how it tastes but it's $17 across the street.) $22 for a burger and fries! $10 for two little bao with a single shrimp in each! Ok, that's not too bad since Bao is generally overpriced for some reason but I could have gotten more than one shrimp. Unfortunately, the price did not reflect the quality. My friend who got the ramen said it was in the bottom 25% he's ever had. My burger was pretty good but the bun was toasted and brittle and made an unnecessary mess. The fries--personal preference--I don't like skinny fries. As for the bao, the shrimp was too salty. I liked the finishing salt but the flavoring salt was too heavy. Also, it was drizzled with aioli and I couldn't pick it up and eat it like the sandwich it was. Overall, a disappointment. Mediocre food and an elevated price for no reason.

I'd known about them for years, but they were kind of out of the way for me. The place is small and unassuming, which gave me high expectations, as sometimes I find myself having lower expectations for a more "Mexican" decorated place (I'm wrong as often as I'm right). As far as the Fish Tacos went, they do not serve the Baja style fried fish tacos that I'd grown up on out west, so it was a downer when the plater arrived and I saw the tacos filled with chopped fish cooked in broth. That said, at least the taco was well filled and the fish had a very good flavor. The broth turned out to be a major issue, as the (very tasty) single layer tortillas were soaking up the broth while I ate the first taco, and the second and third tacos both split at the seams and fell apart after one or two bites. A second tortilla may have prevented this debacle, but I won't order fish tacos here again. I'd have loved a fish soup made in this style. The next visit I tried Tacos de Tripa (fried pork intestines), which is my current go to taco style. They were very good, and I enjoyed the heck out of them. They were nice and crispy as I'd requested, and the excellent tasting tortilla made them an excellent choice. My wife had a cheese tamal that had ribbons of poblanos inside as well, and it was also very good with the poblanos providing a nice balance to the heaviness of the cheese. I'd get both again in a heartbeat. My third visit was at lunchtime, and I opted for a Torta de Chili Relleno--essentially a chili relleno sandwich. It wasn't the first I've ever had, and it's a fave torta when I see them on the menu--which isn't often. The torta arrived with a nice sized chili relleno along with the usual smear of beans, lettuce, tomatoes, avocado, and a couple pieces of queso fresco served on a lightly toasted roll. Overall, the torta was very good tasting, and it went down nicely. However, I wish they used a little firmer roll instead of the soft one they did use. The torta was big and warm, and a crustier roll would have been better. The soft one used was near to collapsing under the weight of the ingredients. Fries are an option on the many torta options for a couple dollars extra. In retrospect, I'd have liked to have added a layer of fries to the sandwich for a little extra kick. All in all, El Gallo Tropical is a place I'll continue to go to. The staff is very friendly, and the menu is extensive (too big?). Although I had them initially at three stars after my first visit for fish tacos, the second (4+) and third (4-) visits have raised them up, and I'm rounding up to a four.

Wow, this place is absolutely delicious! I ordered the serrano ham bocadilla with the side salad and let me tell you, it was worth the price. The sandwich was absolutely huge. The meat wasn't too salty, and was literally loaded onto the sandwich. The cheese paired perfectly with the ham and the bread was nicely toasted with a nice crunchy on the outside, but still maintaining its softness on the inside. The salad on the other hand was delicious as well. It was quite fresh and the vinaigrette dressing was amazing. I will definitely be visiting here again read more
