The flavors are fine and the prices are fair, but I also wasn't blown away. There are somewhat limited savory vegetarian options - I went with the quesadilla. It has some roasted veggies and cheese inside, and comes on a thick corn tortilla - almost thick enough to be a gordita. It was just fine, and came in at around $13. This place has been here for so many years and I love it. We came for brunch recently and had the Tinga Tostada and the French toast. Both were bomb! The tostada was so fresh and flavorful. The French toast is made with their homemade bread and the real maple syrup fruit compote made it incredible. The place was a little dark and hard to see inside, my husband thought it was a bakery but then when I looked it up there were great reviews and boy did this place have some yummy food with great prices! We started with the elote corn which was so yummy and the friend calamari! Also very good! Then we had the bbq pork torta and the shrimp tacos! Soo much food but we ate it all because we were so hungry. It was all very delicious and I would definitely come back and recommend. The inside ambiance is very local vibe with an open kitchen. I've been here several times before this year, but I haven't been back in a while until now. I never wrote a review either. There's plenty of seating inside, so there's no need to make reservations, especially for lunch or brunch time. They serve lunch, brunch, and dinner menus here. I couldn't decide what to order here bc there was so much to choose from. I eventually chose from the dinner/ lunch menu. The waiter was really nice and patient. He gave some suggestions and examples of dishes that we had questions on. I decided on a white sangria, bistec quesadilla, and elote. I wanted to like this place since I always see that is packed. A nice decor so I decided to give it a try by ordering something to go. I got myself two tortas and I should've listen to the red flags before playing an order. Only 2 tortas for a Mexican place that's red flag number one. When ask if the tortas have cheese since it wasn't on the description the server had to ask! Red flag number two. When placing the order the server told me that it came with a salad! Red flag number 3. The tortas themselves had decent flavor but they came in a burger bun! Second the torta was miniature any other place, that would only cost less than 8$ and i was charged 13$. I guess they charge 5 dollars for a side salad that was only Romanian lettuce. My wife and I finally tried this place after 10 years of passing it by when driving from central Queens (Rego Park) to Astoria, Jackson Heights, Sunnyside, Woodside and LIC. That night we ordered appetizers, including my wife's soup of the day, which was a delicious pea soup. My starter was the chicken flautas that come dressed with red and green salsas and crema to illustrate the Mexican flag. The flautas were hot and crispy right out of the fryer, filled with chicken and mashed potatoes. This dish was perfect. My wife's entree was the carne asada torta which she said was delicious. She simply wanted something mild since she doesn't tolerate spicy food well, and also with the help of the friendly waitress she had navigated a number of allergens. The sandwich came with a side of greens. I chose the nuclear option: the molcajete with hangar steak, fresh corn, nopales (cactus), grilled jalapeño and mashed potatoes. The entire spectacle was delicious and beautifully presented in a stone molcajete. We would definitely try this place again which was only overlooked since we have lots of choices of authentic Mexican food. read more

I wanted to visit La Flor for a while. It's a cute place under the 7 train, it's a little hidden. The cappuccino is delicious, I would get it again. The mac and cheese with chorizo could be cheesier but it had good flavor. I got the huevos mexicanos, it was a decent dish but I feel like it needed a meat or rice to make it more hearty. La flor torta comes with a sauce that was a bit on the sweeter side. To end off the meal, we got the pastry basket which was mostly bread, scones and few muffins. I came in with a friend a week ago to try their brunch options. It was the middle of the week, and there was plenty of seating indoors and absolutely no one sitting outside. I had the steak and eggs rancheros, and I loved it. I felt it was a good portion and felt so satisfying. I would definitely come back to try that vanilla french toast. There were so many things on the menu that I had my eye on like the Mayeli's waffle, shrimp omelette, Irish Breakfast, or the Pitaya bowl. So many options! Only one hour for lunch. Oh well. That means more to try next time. My friend really enjoyed her meal also which was huevos a la mexicana, and she was liked it also. She said it really hit the spot and was flavorful. On a food front, the presentation of many of the dishes are reminiscent of home cooking more so than restaurant quality execution. The portions could be heartier but are enough to keep people satiated than overly full. Brunch is one of their most popular reasons to come here. From a colorful quesadilla to a drizzled up huevos rancheros, there are Mexican variations of classic omelets to hollandaise drenched egg benedicts. Much of it is good, but not mind blowing. No one coming here should expect the latter due to its vibe, but as always, come with good company. This includes children as well, but only during the day time. Their dinner hour is my preferred time to come. The aura is completely different with the mood, dim lighting, occasional weekend live music, and the dishes look pretty legit. This is probably one of my favorite places to eat in all of Queens. Over the years the menu has changed some, but still some of my favorites remain. All the tacos are delicious - I really enjoy the Tacos De Vegetables. The Calamari in crisp corn meal batter and spicy chipotle mayo. La Flor Torta is a must try among some of the main stays of the menu. There are often specials that Chef Viko adds to its usual menu of entrees keeping the menu varied and myself surprised that a kitchen so small can turn out so many dishes done so well! The baked goods and desserts are a must as well. Fresh Fruit tart is always delicious, Banana Bread pudding is insanely good as well. Their cookies and croissants are always on point. This place epitomizes what makes up the best of Queens. The beautiful flower (La Flor) growing through the crack of the pavement. The colorful mosaic decor (all made by Viko as well) creates a wonderful escape from the general gloominess under the 7 train. So I went to La Flor for Sunday brunch and ordered the chicken quesadilla, a cheeseburger, and fried calamari. The fried calamari was okay, the chicken quesadilla was tasty however the cheeseburger was absolutely disgusting. I took one bite and the bun started tearing apart, the meat patty was not cooked properly and was in two pieces when it was delivered to me, the inside was almost raw (I asked for a burger to be cooked medium), there was no sauce of any kind in the burger, and they only provided plain iceberg lettuce. I was charged $12 for the burger, I ate one bite. I probably could've made a better burger at home I am highly disappointed. The burger also came with fries that were drenched in oil. In a decidely unglamorous location under the tracks of the #7 train sits this bakery/cafe that turns out bangin' breakfast/brunch plates all cooked to order in their open kitchen. My brunch was decidely feastlike at a price that would have been a 1/3 more for this quality food in a Manhattan or Park Slope loc. The waitresses run around frantically, but got everything right starting with my hot chocolate with an ice-cube(requested) and a touch of cinammon and was quite good. A cranberry scone was tasty served with butter and prepackaged preserves, If they had made their own preserves it would have been a home run. My Mexican inspired egg dish on a tortilla with a layer of cheese was delish as was the huge sides of a freshly shucked corn salad and Peruvian purple potato salad, I also ordered. The corn salad with a splash of balsamic was superior to the one at DBGB. I really can't think of a better tasting brunch that I have had in a while. The sandwich featured a thick bun, flattened though tasty portion of pork, cheese, tomatoes (removed), and lettuce. My wife had a zucchini blossom omelette and liked it very much, though later she wondered if she should have eaten it. Side notes: I think we drove a bunch of people out of there -- two screaming infants will do that -- but the staff didn't seem to mind the distraction. Everything tasted authentic to me- this isn't the watered down American version of Mexican food so if you're looking for a chipotle/Taco Bell style burrito, don't go here. I would say portions are fair. I ate my lamb shank and had some veggie quesadilla and was stuffed. Lamb shank was cooked perfectly- tender falling off bone, even my one year old could eat it with no chewing problems. Mashed potatoes and spinach also cooked perfectly. Flavor was just ok though. Nothing spectacular. Veggie quesadilla was eh... Wouldn't get this again for sure. I prefer my quesadillas chewy with lots of mozzarella cheese. This was more fluffy with the crumbly cheese. The ambience is cozy- not a fine dining atmosphere. More like a hole in the wall. And because of that I would expect to pay less. Wouldn't go out of my way to come here again. Parking is a little difficult because it's in the congested part of woodside- on Roosevelt. Good luck with that. Take train here if possible.
