Hubby and I decided to try this Mexican food in the neighborhood. He said it's new. It's not a fancy restaurant, but the food's fancy enough to bring us there. Due to the awesome reviews, the place was pretty occupied when we arrived for dinner. Luckily we got a table by the window. After we sat down, more people kept coming, some with groups and some were couples. We had the sizzling chicken fajita, which was one of the best. The chicken pieces were big, but the taste was up to par. We also had the 3 mixed tacos. I had the shrimp taco, and hubby had the beef taco. Delphina was our great waitress. I've been wanting to come here since it's in the neighborhood. So, what better time to go than on cinco de mayo. I must say that their business is doing fairly well if it's busy like this on a Friday night. One person was doing everything, such as answering the phones, taking orders, clearing the tables, serving food and drinks, and giving the checks. I was in disbelief. No wonder service was so s-l-o-w. I was expecting water to be given when you first sit down or at least after one places an order. That wasn't done it only came with your food. A bit backwards from what other restaurants do... They did give some chips with hot sauce to start off with, and it was complimentary. But I was a bit thirsty as the water didn't come until later on. I ordered the Mexican spicy beef steak. I'm not sure what makes it Mexican, but it was very flavorful. This place is so underrated and more people need to try their delicious food. My husband and I tried: - Al pastor deluxe tacos, which comes with onions, cilantro, pico de Gallo, guac, and source cream on the side - Birria tacos (I've had both Chinelos and Birria Landia and this place is a solid alternative when you miss it. Def better than a lot of places in the neighborhood) - Steak sopes (way bigger than I thought but delicious) They give you a good amount of sauces including Valentina and the flavors and heat are solid. It took some time, but Mr. Burrito's transformation from Mi Nuevo Rancho was finally complete in late 2016. Fans of the previous incarnation will appreciate that not much has changed. The food is still pretty versatile and it is still one of the better Mexican options in the hood. If there was anything that took a slight name, it might just actually be the name itself -- Mr. Burrito Loco. For fans of the previous incarnation, the current menu is virtually the same, sans a few spikes in prices but such is inflation. Gone is the seedy decor and ficha-looking posters and in its place is a more modern, open looking establishment. The doors in the front give the feel of outdoor dining, despite the fact they actually don't have any. Like any good "Mexican diner" the menu is still pretty substantial with all sorts of items. While the burritos they serve here are far from small, they're not even close to the highlight of their variety. The tacos are solid, but at $3.50 they're neither a steal or really worth it over the nearby competition. Strangely enough, the fish taco is the same price as most other meats. The torta game, they have locked down. Outstanding bread, hearty portions, and a good selection of different combos. They even have the chorizo-potato bun, the illusive pembazo, which doesn't get as much love as it deserves. I love they have close to two dozen different kinds of agua fresca. It'll come very handy come summer time. Service could always be better, but the one's mileage may vary. I've had rude phone conversations in the past and awesome in dining experiences from a customer service perspective. I love this place. I could have sworn that I'd previously left a review praising them. The portions are generous for everything and that everything is pretty damn fresh. The pozole, burritos, and typical menu items are all great but for me the real deal is their sopa de mariscos. It's spicy, rich, always includes a ton of fish/calamari and at least a half blue crab and as another reviewer stated - you get tortillas/tostadas, sauces, and fresh lime/onion/etc on the side. I was a little sceptical about this place specially cuz they serve two different type of food (Mexican-Peruvian) but today i decided to gave it a try . Omg let me tell you I don't regretted. I ordered mix flautas and red pozole , they sent me enough sauces , sour cream and Even a little guacamole to deep my flautas in when some other restaurants uncommonly give you neither enough sauces or any guacamole. Do not come here if you are in a hurry. Food is slow. Ordered takeout and the waitress said 10 minutes but the wait was 20 minutes while there was almost no one in the restaurant. Al Pastor Burrito: The construction of the burrito is definitely on point. The ingredients were well dispersed inside the tortilla so you don't get a bite of only lettuce (I am talking about you Chipotle!). Appropriate rice to meat to lettuce ratio. Not too wet or dry. The outside is slightly toasted (yes to texture!). The filling was generous and well packed; I was able to eat this burrito one handed while the other arm held a sleeping baby and there was minimal spillage - that is some impressive structural integrity! Very flavorful with strong cheese and tomato taste. My gripe is that I wouldn't have known this was an al pastor burrito purely on taste. I shared half this burrito with my SO, they thought it was a pizza burrito The flavors were muddled and it was a rare bite where I could taste the acid and sweet of the pineapple. But definitely worth the price and would get again. Lunch Special: lunch of the day was chicken stew with chicken noodle soup. The soup was flavorful and tasty with a decent amount of chicken but reminded me of Campbell's or Lipton soup. In contrast, chicken stew was bland and could use a bit of salt. Kids (of the owner or employees) are running around the restaurant screaming And playing games. I live in the building across the street from them, so I've been there several times. Their food is hot, fresh, and delicious. I love the chicken enchiladas, and, true to their new name, their burritos are huge and on point. Their prices are great. The only downside is the speed of service. The wait for food to come out can be a bit long, and for delivery, it can take over an hour (and yes, I get it delivered even though I live across the street, don't judge). I honestly think that that's because they make things fresh to order and aren't just slopping things on a plate from a giant warming tray. I'll take slow and fresh over fast and crappy any day. It's small and family run, and deserves to be way busier than it appears to be! If you love Mexican food, give it a try. read more
