Best place for a pit stop to get taco's after a night out. It is always dependable and the taco's for me are always consistently good. I love their red hot sauce on the taco's. The spicier the better for me it helps awaken all of my senses. I normally get beef and chicken tacos with nothing healthy on it just meat and cheese. Don't expect the standard melted cheese on their tacos. The first time I had this cheese I was disappointed because I absolutely love melted cheese that is soft, and gooey. I really got over that pretty quickly. The texture of the sliced fried cheese to me compliments the meat and hot sauce held together on a soft corn tortilla. The meat here is dry and bland. The red, hot sauce is straight up killer heat without much other flavor going on except spicy. One of my favorite bars is right in front; The Courtyard. These guys make a delicious taco. It has tons of flavor and if you want fire hot; they have that to. My go to taco here is the carne asada. They serve it with a couple of corn tortillas and some delicious tender beef (well marinated) top with onions and cilantro. Life is good. Tacos are better; yum. An awesome taco. They always ask what toppings you would like. Some folks like the lettuce, tomato, etc all in stuff. I just want the basics (onion + cilantro) to enjoy the full flavor of the ingredients. They have a white queso sauce, avocado sauce and this red hot "burn your ass" sauce. They always warn the customer about their fire sauce. This baby is delicious. Not for the weak. They ask if you like some chiles. Try it. They are crispy and melt in your mouth with some red hot flavor. It is worth the adventure if you like hot and spicy. I have sample all their tacos, all good and some just stand out. I always tell my taco friends try them. See which ones you like. You won't miss the boat with El Vagabundo. Today is perhaps the saddest day for me of the past decade. I moved to NYC in 2011 and have had these tacos pretty much every single week since then like clockwork. The chicken is underwhelming but the Pastor and Chorizo were to die for; the best tacos I've ever had by far. And I'm from Texas. I know my tacos. I went back today for the first time since COVID broke out in March. To my horror, I was told that the owner of the taco truck sold the truck to his nephew (who now operates it). Everything was different - the tortilla was under-cooked with insufficient use of oil, the sauces were all wrong / mild / blah, the quantities were lower, the jalapenos weren't cooked and so not nearly as spicy, they got my order wrong twice...everything is off. This is now your average, run of the mill taco truck at best. HOWEVER! The nephew who now operates this truck told me that the uncle purchased a new truck and now operates at around 180th street in the Bronx. I...WILL find it. And BEG him to come back to Queens. Well done Yelpers... you were right. Despite being stuffed to the brim, I still had space to force down this meat (who hasn't forced meat into their mouth at one point or another in their lives). One thing I noticed other than how wet and tasty it was (wetter is always better), is that it's a bigger taco than you'd expect. It's twice the size of a normal taco. In that way, it reminds me of my gf. However it's priced accordingly, so you won't be paying a couple of dollars for this taco, it's more like three. But it's enormous so it's worth the extra couple of dollars since you're essentially getting two tacos in one. Very authentic, nice service, good meats, great location right on Queens Blvd... the wait time can be a little annoying but if you want authentic tacos, while you do have at least 15 or 20 authentic options in Queens alone, this is as good as any of them. And if serial killers get food here, then it's El Vaga-Ted-Bundy. If you're from about 20 years ago and carry your money in a waist-carrier, then it's El Vaga-Bunbag. Arguably the most reliable late night food option in Sunnyside. Great value and delicious tacos ($2.50) / burritos ($7) can be had for less than ten bucks or ten minutes. Located at the corner of 41st street and Queens Blvd, across CVS (now opened 24 hours), there is a worthy substitute for the famous halal and biriyani carts in midtown Manhattan. The carnitas and chicken tacos (with everything on it) are personal favorities. The guacamole spread on top is simply the icing on the cake. Fulfilling for a quick dinner, and ultra-satisfying for a post-drinking gorge (especially the burrito). All for less than $8! Moving to Queens feels that much more seamless. read more

Decent Taco Truck The taco men were very polite and cordial. I tried the pastor spice, sausage spice, chicken, and ground beef. They even gave some pickled jalapenos along with the tacos which I thought was a nice gesture. I wish the tacos were as lively as their personalities but that was not the case. None of the flavors stood out. However the tortillas were nice and crisp. In a way these 'vagabundos' knocked me off my feet. I had to take my 'zapatos' off for my feet to breathe because of the extreme heat. I had all tacos with both green and red sauce. I love spicy food and I didn't expect such fiery hotness from the red sauce/salsa. I was sweating profusely but I enjoyed it. As a spice lover, I did appreciate the 'over the top' red hot sauce/salsa. However, it acted as a mask. I think rubber tires would taste palatable with some of the red hell-fire on top. The sauce shouldn't be the main character when it comes to tacos. I couldn't really differentiate which taco was which after the numbing of my taste buds. They didn't offer tongue or any of the more flavorful meaty options that Tacos Al Suadero offers. On the upside, if I was boozed up these tacos would definitely sober me up with a spicy smack in the face. From the outside, this taco truck almost seems abandoned. I mean being parked outside Apple Bank (is this a real bank?) is one thing. But the exterior of this food truck isn't exactly the cleanest. Then again, I came at the dead of night on a Thursday so that would be a partial reason as to why it wasn't as tidy as it opened in the early afternoon. What I am most concerned about is the food itself which I put to the test as I ordered pretty much every type of taco filling they had. Except for sausage (chorizo) because they ran out. FU-K man...denying an Asian from their pork appetite is just cruel. There chicken tacos and carne asada tacos/burrito, because I was hungry, were the best. Juicy, tender, and nice flavor even without the guac, green hot sauce & burgundy chili hot sauce laced on top of it. The tacos are soft shelled and they were layered with 3 shells each. You might want to be careful because some of the edges were burnt not sure how but as I was eating at the Courtyard Ale House (yes you can bring food in but just make sure you order at least a drink), I accidentally swallowed a few rough pieces. Eating in the light is always the solid choice. But inside a bar you do what you can ya know? My beef is with the burrito. I ordered the carne asada and it was delish. BUT the the burrito wrapping I always hated which deters me from ordering burritos more often came to light during this meal. Each bite made the burrito shell harder to hold and almost all of the filling came splashing down on the Styrofoam container where the tacos were in previously. Thank God for that because I would have made a mess otherwise on the bar table. The flavors were fine but nothing that really stood out other than the carne asada. The rice was a bit soggier than I would have liked. For burritos Ideally the rice should almost be a la dente like spaghetti to give it that reason to chew thoroughly if you aren't chewing food thoroughly to begin with. For late nights in Sunnyside, this is a good option for your Mexican cravings. TD bank is conveniently a swift walk under the overhead 7 train tunnel and across the street. Courtyard Ale House will get you right with booze. What more do you need? A massage? Wishful thinking. read more

I moved here from San Diego so I'm a bit spoiled when it comes to Mexican food. While friends were visiting during the Winter Holidays we were craving some good ol' Mexican fill me up and found Tacos El Vegabundo on yelp. Since I live a block away went ventured out to try it. $2.50 a taco is a tag pricier than I care for. But all in all it's a good perk me up in the middle of the night. I regularly come back to get myself a Pastor (pork) or Mixtos taco. Two would fill a person up decently. The burrito isn't anything to advertise about. I didn't really love the pollo (chicken) or asada (steak) meats. Tasted a bit dry. The guy in the truck is always nice and remembers me and waves when I walk by. Though I don't see myself being hooked and feel compelled to walk out here most nights to get myself a taco, this would be the place I'd trust to go if I wanted some good tacos that reminds me of home. read more

I've heard so much about this popular taco truck. It's a shame it took me this long to finally try it. Went to Courtyard bar originally for some more drinks after a yelp party. And decided to grab some tacos to go with my beer (Thanks to Lizz K for that suggestion). Got the Spicy Chorizo, Chorizo and the Chuleta taco(Grilled strips of pork steak) shared with Darcy P. The Chuleta was the best taco, I have Jando S. to thank for that recommendation. The workers in the truck were extremely nice, and the best part is it's only $2.50 a taco!! This is the best Taco Truck I have come across in all of New York. The guys are all super friendly, and their hours are roughly 8pm to 4:30am give or take a half hour. The FOOD. Ever wanted to indulge in a 5 meat burrito? Step right up. They will mix and match anything you want. My top recommendation is to try the Chicken and Chorizo mixed together. The Cecina (salted beef) is better to me than the steak, just a better cut of meat. The chicken is amazing. Seriously. These guys know how to cook them some chicken. Tons of toppings, all included in the price. No wonder what you get, if you are a fan, don't forget to have them add lime. The salsas are spicy (in the best way), so having a little sour cream and lime goes a long way to cutting and balancing the flavors in your mouth. This is a 5-star taco truck. With yelp reviews, you have to keep the whole star rating system in perspective - I believe it's ok to have a 5-star steakhouse and a 5-star street food truck. I digress... This taco truck is best in class. I've been here numerous times and am always completely satisfied. I've pretty much had everything on the menu (basically different varieties of tacos) and really, you can't go wrong. Taco is $2.50 Tostado is $3.00 Burrito is $7.00 With prices like this, a meal is just as cheap as taco bell, yet 100 times better quality! Everything tastes so flavorful and fresh. The 2 guys who work the truck are really cool too. They help me try to learn Spanish which is cool! They're really fast and won't add sauces/sour cream without checking with you first. My only complaint is they aren't open until around 8pm - but it is nice that they are open late, until around 3am. read more

The juices, the meats, the vegetables were all in harmony singing my favorite songs. But This is not the Tacos El Vagabundo I fell in love with. Now they taste like luke-warm vegetables with dry meat on top. We cannot forever stay in the past. Time moves forward, and we must move with it. El Vagabundo once served very good tacos. But that is no longer true. And I've given several tries to this place wishing it'd be the way it was before, but to no avail. I've only tried the beef tacos but they are delicious. Not the best I've ever had but they definitely hit the spot. Really, I think the fact that there's an established taco truck that will deliver your yummy burrito to your door about says it all. This is the best taco truck in the area, likely the best in Queens and a good chance it's at least top five in NYC. They compare very favorably to some of the better burrito shops in the city as well. Yes, it's that good. El Vagabundo is a block from the 40th St station and conveniently located outside The Courtyard Bar. They are very friendly, quick and eager to push things on you that you initially decline but inevitably need ("Are you really sure you don't need a fork?"). The trick is to grab your burrito on the way to one of the pubs in the area. That's the best of all possible worlds. read more

Our taco spot used to be the truck on 51st but since we're closer to this one we've been going here and have sadly forgotten about our friends ten blocks away. No matter, the taco's and food here are good! I always get the salted beef taco's and have not been disappointed. I think one of the keys to a good taco, besides the flavor of the meat are the ratio of all mixing together to make that magical taste in your mouth. The portions of meat, vegetables and sauces put into the taco's have been spot on, perfect for me. The right balance of textures coming together with the flavors that explode with each chew. The taco guys are very nice as well - I've had experiences from previous trucks where there the interaction with the cooks and the customers were non-existent. It was that grade school lunch line mood where you stood in line with your tray and wait for your food to be splattered then you move on and eat. But this place isn't like that, they take the time out to "chat" with their customers, are very friendly while keeping their orders top priority. I'm not there when it comes to spicy food just yet, as I'm trying to build my tolerance. But for some reason their "mild" (green) sauce is sometimes a bit too spicy for me. My only gripe with them is that they open 8pm and are not there when I come home from work. So I have to wait for my tasty salted beef taco's. It's not really a problem as I've found myself standing there being the "1st in line" alone waiting at 7:50pm waiting and hoping to get my taco's 10 minutes early.
