I've been eating at Mi La Cay in San Jose, CA since I was a child, so I was super glad to see one here in Seattle! Although there wasn't anyone in the restaurant when we came, don't let that deter you because the food is great. Small and humble, the restaurant is clean and the food is great. I got the noodle with seafood, with soup on the side while my bf got the special #1. Recommend soup on the side if you want to eat the noodles like dry noodles. We were blown away by the food, it definitely reminds us of home. The soup was blazing hot and the portion sizes for the price are great. The condiments are great too, try the pickled jalapenos! my son and I stumbled in here just hoping for something not bad. The food was unbelievably good. I had the house noodle soup and the only thing I was unhappy with was that I couldn't finish the soup. 9/31/2021 I ordered N2 and the wings. The wings were delicious. The 'seafood' soup however, was boring. I haven't had such terrible service in a long time. The server never checked back to see how I was doing. I needed more napkins and water. She never cleared the used dishes/utensils when I finally got another waitress's attention. She brought a take out box and bag but never brought me water as I asked for. I had to walk up to the register to pay. I did not leave a tip - at all. Oh childhood memories I use to come here as a kid back when the location was on Dearborn Street. That was nearly a decade ago. I caught a craving at lunch today and decided to give it a go for old times sake. The new location is in a small plaza, parking is tight and if your coming around lunch time good luck finding parking. The restaurant itself is a little small but the decor is nicely arranged definitely gives off that Vietnamese vibe. I ordered a papaya salad with tofu to start and that was amazing. The salad was perfectly portioned not too much sauce, decent amount of tofu, and just the right amount of veggies. Definitely up there on my list of good papaya salads. For my main course I had the BBQ Duck noodle soup and let me tell you it gave me flashbacks of when I ate it as a kid, the rice noodles got a little clumped up and we're hard to separate but no biggie, the broth was great no added sauces needed, and the duck was well cooked very tender and had a nice BBQ brown char. The service was okay, coming at lunch time it's gets extremely busy and can be a bit hectic. There was only one woman who was serving the whole restaurant so she was very busy. She did a great job serving everyone but it's understandable not getting the best service because she was by herself. Overall a great place to stop by if your ever in the area and want a real authentic Vietnamese food besides Pho. I recommend to try at least one time. Who knows? Ahhhh! Just like the many reviewers have mentioned, this joint brings back the good memories of the previous location, where the building was dingy on the outside, and super dim/dark on the inside. Growing up, I remembered this place not only excelled at the noodle soup dishes, but they always done a decent job with the side dishes such as rice, fried noodles, etc. Came by here with my mom for a late dinner (since most places close early in the International District) and was pleasantly surprised with the new place. Interior is much more cleaner and brighter and getting the attention of the staff is a whole lot easier. The menu itself hasn't changed too much but prices are a bit higher than before (and a bit too expensive for the simple dishes like rice w/ Chinese sausage). What did dampen my spirit was the quality of food. Perhaps I should have ordered what Mi La Cay is known for (the noodle soups) vs the tofu curry rice. My mom also ordered the tofu fried noodle dish and overall, both tofu plates lacked any taste and was pretty bland for the most part. If you dine here, I highly recommend skipping the rice dishes and just shooting for the noodle soups. The broth that came with my curry dish was quite savory. Maybe a hint too salty but overall, I knew I made the wrong choice in picking rice over noodle soup. Make sure to dine here at off hours! Mi La Cay is already a raving hot spot, I'm not sure my review will change anything. But I'm gonna praise it anyway because during COVID, they're staying strong and keeping my appetite sated. I gotta start off saying though, my favorite item at Mi La Cay is their Pickled Jalapenos. I could get literally any dish there and just go to town on it with them 'peños. Thank you for being amazing. Regarding the actual entrees people order, I love their House Special Noodle. Dry or with soup, you can't go wrong, they're both delicious. This is honestly the only place I've had whatever their fried shrimp cracker thing is and I love it. But aside from that they just pile on the meat. Sometimes I'm finished with the noodles before I finish the meat! I love a good restaurant that treats their customers with the attention and meat they deserve. As an appetizer, I almost always get their fried tofu. It's always perfectly crispy on the outside and soft on the inside and the dipping sauce (plus jalapeños of course) pair so well. So well. Aside from those I tend to mix things things up every now and then. Honestly their bo kho isn't the greatest but it's still good and satisfies if I ever have a craving. This place moved location after their land got ceased to develop new apartments. New place is within minutes in Little Saigon, smaller private lot, but there's plenty of street parking. This place just brings so much childhood memories because my family and I used to take the #7 hoodlum bus whenever we had extra money to eat out and order 1 bowl at Mi La Cay to share between 3 kids. We would passed by the giant billboard on Rainier Ave with the lottery prize getting here and I would dream of winning that prize so I can have my own bowl someday. I never won the lottery, but I can afford to get a whole bowl of noodle to myself now! The new place is cleaner with more modern looking menus, but still the same great thing on the menu. I used to order the Mi La Cay special, I got the Chinese sausage egg noodle this time and the Chinese sausage was nice & crispy. The broth is so good and it's perfect for Seattle weather. A had the Mi dac biet kho , the meat was really dry and there wasn't a lot of sauce. The food wasn't what I remembered it from a few years ago when it was at the old location. On the other side, service was excellent! Our waitress was extremely prompt and very friendly. Smiles the whole time! It was the best service that I have ever had at a Vietnamese restaurant. It has been one emotional journey for me coming back to Seattle. I used to live in Federal Way, just around 30 minutes from Chinatown. It was ritual for my parents to take me down here to shop every weekend. One of the places we always dined at was Mi La Cay, back when it was still located on Rainer. The restaurant moved and has been redecorated. It looked a lot more modern now. When I was younger, I couldn't appreciate this place enough, in glad to be back here. Based on nostalgia alone, I would've given it a five but having eaten at Mi Hue Gia Ky recently, I am a bit torn. I got the house special dry noodles with pork, chicken and fried shrimp fritter. The noodles themselves were great. They were al dente and had a crunch to them. The sauce was a bit light, lacking both sweetness and saltiness. The pork was also kind of dry. The chicken leg was amazing however, the chicken skin was super crispy and the meat, juicy. The fried shrimp fritter was the best, it was easily the star of the show. The order came with a side of soup. This soup was out-of-this-world good. I did miss the pork skin crackling on top of the noodles though, they were the key component to this dish. I also ordered fried wontons. There was nothing to complain about the wontons, they were simply delicious. Overall, it was a great meal. Both Hue Gia and Mi La Cay had great noodles. I like the sauce and meat from Hue Gia more but La Cay had much better broth and they have the fried shrimp fritter. I also like Hue Gia for their pork crackling toppings but the wontons at La Cay was out of this world. I guess it comes down to what you feel like eating that day as I recommend both restaurants. Mi La Cay will always be a bit more special to me though because of nostalgia :). read more

Mi La Cay is one of the very firsts to start serving Chinese egg noodles in the area. As for many, I've grown up eating at this restaurant. Mi La Cay is a family owned restaurant and definitely has that Mom n' Pops type of feel to it. I genuinely love love LOVE their food, I crave their food and prefer to eat here to other places in International District. & They are on several delivery apps? Yesss My favorite dish here is the N1) "House Noodle Soup w/ Soup on the side & Large Egg Noodles please." Large noodles are not on the menu, but it's on their secret menu ;) Another dish that's super delicious is the CF3) Beef Chow Foon. Really great food here, but due to the poor service and staff's attitude, I'll have to give this place a one star at best. Every single time I come here, there's always something off with that older lady and I think everyone knows who I'm talking about. What triggered me to write this review was the last time I was there. My friend and I were the only customers sitting in the main dining room and a couple were isolated in the front area. While we were waiting for our food, which took too long for having just two customers, a large family of 9 people came in. They looked like they wanted to take our table and one of them spoke Vietnamese to the lady and all of a sudden we were asked to move to another table. I mean, come on, the dining room is empty and you had other tables around where these 9 people could have easily sat at, but they wanted the only table occupied in the damn dining room. It was super awkward when we were asked to move, but we moved anyway to avoid awkwardness. When we got up, we even had to bring our plates and cups OURSELVES. The audacity to inconvenience the only two people in the main dining room and still not bringing the plates and cups as a server is totally humiliating. Not only that, this old lady never checked-in on us for water and nobody was insight to ask for hoisin sauce and hot sauce. As we were checking out at the front, no words spoken and no thank you. My favorite place for noodle soup. I have been here for many years now. I take my friends who visit Seattle here as well. It does not look like much from the outside but the food was delicious. My bf had cravings to come here. I can tell this is a restaurant that many Vietnamese families to go when they're craving Vietnamese food. It has a homely feel to it when you walk in. It was empty when we went. I got the beef ball noodle soup and my bf got the house noodle soup. We also got some Chinese donuts to dip in our soups. I must say this was really good! You can add hoisin​ sauce and other condiments to your liking. The Chinese donut isn't greasy like other ones I have tried from other restaurants. My family and I frequented Mi La Cay after shopping for groceries and salon supplies in Seattle but I hadn't been back since I moved out from my parents'. Last night, I was feeling a little under the weather and wanted something with broth but was tired of pho. On a whim, I decided to come here to see if my childhood favorite would live up to the hype that surrounded it back then. It also helps that I recently moved and only live 15 minutes away. The new location is SIGNIFICANTLY nicer. There's an actual parking lot and the inside is clean and bright. I ordered the Mi La Cay dac biet (N1) with soup on the side like my parents used to order and hoped for the best. It arrived within 10 minutes and looked just how I remembered it. I had to ask for the pickled jalapenos since they store them in fridge now as opposed to leaving them out on the tables. Upon the first couple bites, I was relieved. Everything tasted the same! Crunchy noodles, savory yet slightly sweet broth, crispy batter around the shrimp, crispy chicken skin with juicy meat inside, and a good amount of pork. I love it eating the bowl dry while sipping broth in between so nothing gets soggy. My boyfriend ordered the same thing and for his first time eating it, enjoyed it as much as I did. Our total was $19 and we were both full. Service was quick and to the point. You don't come here for a 5-star meal, you come here for a hot, fulfilling bowl of noodles you can count on. No Pho here but they do offer an awesome noodle soup instead. I wanted to know what the best seller noodle soup was so i asked for that... The nice man pointed to the first one on the list which was, "House noodle soup mixed with fried shrimp, pork and fried chicken!" I had the choice of egg or rice noodles. I picked rice. It came out 2 minutes later extremely hot! It looked great. It had one full fried shrimp (head, eyes, antennas included) in a large crunchy tempura batter! The textures and taste were spot on! I loved it. The pork seemed a little tough but the flavor was decent. The piece of chicken was tender with bone-in and had great flavor. I loved the broth as it was full of flavor. I'd go back again in a heart beat. I loved the mix of the three meats with the rice noodles. I didn't miss the Pho after my first bite. The employees were friendly, and the restaurant was clean. Why are the noodles yelling spicy?!?! Lol I use to always question my parents about the name when I was younger. I've been coming here way before I even really understood where I was, no joke. Mi La Cay moved to a new location a little under a year ago which was a bit inconvenient and much older and although the new location is much nicer, parking is ridiculously inconvenient now. Location still doesn't stop my family and I coming here though! I always ordered the Mi Dac Biet (house special) with the egg noodles and soup on the side and a size of avocado bubble tea. With soup on the side, you can get a chance to taste the flavors of the noodles and drink up the soup afterwards to help wash it all down or what I like to do is eat it half dry then the other half pour the soup in so it's kinda like a 2-in-1!! read more

I love the savory poultry/pork broth garnished with chives, onion,cilantro,and Chinese celery. The moist pork slices mixed with the juicy roasted chicken so freeking fabulous! I love their egg noodles. But I'm such a sucker for their chewy clear noodles. The Seattle location doesn't disappoint. The owners are old school...so is the service. I really wish the amazing customer service we had at this place could speak for the taste of it's food. The owner is extremely attentive, and full of energy, but I can't say the same for the food. We order Pho, Shrimp Rolls, Duck and Spicy Beef. The Pho was blend... if a Vietnamese place doesn't offer the tradition pho with meatballs, tripe, and the other unusual cuts, it's almost out of my list. But nonetheless, we tried it, the broth tasted like Knorr chicken bouillon and MSG, blend and unsurprising. The Duck was terribly cold, saggy, and unseasoned. The Spicy Beef was dry.... really, the only highlight of our meal was the shrimp spring roll with a delicious sauce. First time coming to THIS new location. Parking sucks and super tight. Inside is not the largest, the old location was way bigger and spacious. Super busy on a saturday so we stood there for a good 5-10 min awkwardly before waving someone down to seat us. Come to find out.. 3 open tables of 4 in the back *eye roll*. They were busy that the older vietnamese lady did not know we were seated in the back and took care of all the people after us *ugh*. Had to ask her loudly to please take my order.. WE HUNGRY. Food is as expected, enough to satisfy my noodle craving for the time being. Got the big white noodle, seafood and a side of chinese donuts. YUM. Anyway, it was nothing like WOW, similar to hue ky my gia in my opinion. Maybe next time I'll just go to Kent if it's more convenient.
