Standard mexican place with flavor, nice staff Coming from the north, the idea of Mexican food usually boils down to canned and frozen foods, nuked up and served with copious amounts of cheese and very little depth of flavor. This restaurant is in that same line. The deco is very in your face and very busy. The staff are friendly but sometimes need to get a couple other staff to get the full order in. Food comes out quick and the chips and salsa are pretty standard. The food I got here is very much what one would expect from a place around my home. Giant plates of brown mush, brownish parboiled rice, and greasy fried items. Yet I still rate them a 4 because unlike the places I mentioned before, the flavors here were elevated. The refried beans were stewed with smoky bacon. The rice was boiled with saizon or chicken broth, the tamale was covered in rich brown gravy and velveeta cheese, but the masa was also flavored and the beef was a paste but had spice. The ribeye tacos were cooked a little too long, but they were tender and the salsa verde was spicy but not overpowering. Needed some red onion for contrast, but was a fine bite regardless. The stuffed avocado breading was too thick, but the filling was good. Filling was a little too overpowering for the avocado, and the breading probably needed to be a panko or a tempura breading instead. But the idea was good, just not the execution Despite my gripes, the food here was miles above your typical Mexican fare. It's not so much Tex-mex as it is Mexican food heavily westernized. It's the same junk you get anywhere, but it's a bit tastier if you're from the states. Treat it like the Olive Garden of Mexican food and you'll be happy.

Mucho Dinner off the lunch menu. $15.29

Always great food. Lots of choices on the lunch menu. They get slammed at lunch time, so be prepared to wait.

What a fun place to surprise someone on their birthday! Large portions for entrees. I ordered the fajita bowl with beef, chicken chunks, rice and veggies without the queso topping. It tastes plain. I had to ask for a very small side of guacamole which cost me near $4!?!? Wished I asked to replace that with the queso... doesn't hurt to ask. The portion was so large I didn't finish it and did not get to eat the chip bowl! Great shareable option!

The elotes were hands-down the highlight, perfectly seasoned and super flavorful! Service was quick (food came out in about 15 minutes), which I appreciated. Unfortunately, the rest of the meal didn't quite hit the mark--everything else was a bit underwhelming on flavor.

As is my practice, sat at the bar and bantered with the friendly Hispanic fellow who promptly brought my order of chunky guacamole and a big ol' Texas sized Dos X' on draft. Ambiance was typical but friendliness extended as I left, thanking me for visiting. So heck, if you ever find yourself thirsty North of Houston, this is a good choice

End result: my opinion is that Mi Rancho was just mediocre. I don't get it: the dining area and cocktail bar ambiance is fun, lively like being at a celebration in Mexico, the service is outstanding, it's busy it's kept clean, but the food...was just overpriced Taco Bell grade food at about $23 per person. We were disappointed. I hate giving less than stellar reviews but I have to just be honest about my personal experience here, because out of all the factors that make a great restaurant it really just comes down to one thing: the quality of the food. Even though all my other experience at this restaurant were A+, the food was a C-. I was very excited to try here because I've always seen that it's busy I've seen the reviews on Yelp and other websites. We were greeted and seated rather quickly even though it was very busy in here. The staff was super friendly and acknowledged us quickly and took our food and drink orders. The menu has a good variety of items listed on it and they're cocktail bars seems to be quite lively. The amount of time from ordering to bringing food to our table was very quick! We ordered the sour cream enchiladas, the burrito sabroso, chicken quesadilla plate and the law Placita which had a little bit of everything on there. The presentation of the food was great but when you get to the actual ingredients and taste it was disappointing. The meal portion sizes were rather small, the meals tatsed a bit heavy-handed on the salt, the meats tastes and textures were below expectations and the cheese was a processed Velveeta style cheese. What's disappointing was that everything up to the point of the taste of the food was spectacular. I've eaten a lot of TexMex and ultimatelyI just wasn't impressed. Overall if you're looking for a good bar or very basic Tex-Mex type of meal this is a great place for you. But for me I don't feel that I got what I paid for. I personally cannot give high recommendations for me Rancho but I'm sure they have enough other followers that have a different opinion than mine. Great place to visit for cocktails and ambience but for me, the food quality was unfortunately anemic.

Beef fajitas for 2.... Very generous portions!!!

Was "OKAY." The vibe was nothing notably warm nor welcoming. A bit on the noisier end than we like... The nonchalant hostesses didn't make eye contact or acknowledge us as we stood idly at the entrance for several minutes waiting to be seated... We asked for a booth, and the young woman who walked us to a table blinked back at us, as if conflicted with our request. We said, "Never mind," after the awkward silence and took a seat in the middle of the restaurant. Service was much better from our waiter. Prices seemed on the higher end than other Tex-Mex / Mexican restaurants in the vicinity, but the chips & salsa did get replenished often and the Fajitas for 2 were a very generous portion. Flavor was good, nothing too greasy/salty/spicy, and ingredients seemed fresh. However, the menu was pretty "basic" - scarce variety and less authentic than we expected... Generic. A good stop if you've got a hungry appetite, but I prefer going elsewhere for the better ambiance.

WOW a flight of margaritas!!! Wonderful

Service is good. But quality in their food has drastically decreased and prices have soared for mediocre tacos.

5 stars all the way for location, vibe, food, and service. A tad shocked though, as to how pricey…read moreit all got in the end - essentially a drink (cocktail and beer)-sandwich - dessert meal for two costing $92, including tax and tip. Ordered Prickly Pear Mezcal margarita, Sierra Nevada Hazy Little Thing light IPA beer, cup of Cream of Cauliflower Soup, Caprese Panini on Focaccia bread with Herbed Fries, West Coaster Panini (Ham, Avocado, Arugula) on Ciabatta bread with Herbed Fries, and a Coffee Fudgy Brownie with Vanilla Ice Cream to go. Service was fantastic with our server (Will) being very knowledgeable and friendly. Drinks and food arrived quickly and were fantastic - the drinks were on point, the food ample in quantity and flavorful in taste. The Fudgy Brownie was divine! Well-done! As I mention above, the final tally was a bit shocking. Otherwise, a great place to hang out; planning to return to avail of the Mon/Tue $25 Wine and Bruschetta Board special.

[EDIT only to correct to "Postino"]…read more I use the one-stars sparingly, I really do. This has nothing to do with the food, as we never got that far in the course of my miserable experience at this location (not sure if it's a chain or not). Walked into a relatively quiet restaurant somewhat later in the evening after strolling a bit in the summer Houston heat around the Woodlands. A couple of people recommended Postino. The issue arose when I asked for a possible menu modification. Specifically, I was trying to avoid GOAT CHEESE on the meatball dish I had my eyes on (which otherwise looked pretty tempting). The server indicated that they probably couldn't do it but I nevertheless requested this... a couple of minutes later the server returned with the bad news. Apparently, it simply had to be served as-is, according to the menu. This in itself wouldn't have got me to the point of writing this review. However, I, incredulous, was kind of laughing (you have to laugh) and said something like "so I can only order exactly what's on the menu, and the kitchen can't do anything different?" (slight paraphrasing, perhaps). There wasn't much further conversation with the server but within about 30 seconds of this exchange, a "manager" stormed over to the table and borderline-abusively shouted "is there a problem?!". This "mini-manager" as I will refer to her, proceeded to inform me that they could NOT accommodate changes because it would "violate the integrity of the restaurant" ... I of course I also found a bit humorous, and in this state inquired further about what sense it made to be so obnoxiously strict for someone just trying to grab a quick bite about 30 minutes before closing. I'm sensitive to the work involved in running restaurants and serving obnoxious customers, but I was NOT rude, obnoxious, or difficult. Just blown away by this treatment. I was then informed by the mini-manager that she was from LONDON which I assume meant I should accept that her cosmopolitan background and (I assume vast and high-level culinary experience) meant that I should shut my trap and stop being so picky. At this point I was compelled to mention that I, too, grew up overseas and was very surprised at this complete lack of flexibility. Within another 30 seconds or so of this dialogue, the mini-manager tipped the menu over on the table and abruptly shouted, "you know what, I'm refusing you service!" That made it all easy from there as we promptly (while laughing, partly out of shock) exited the facility. Huge disappointment and embarrassing in my view for a restaurant that seems otherwise to have maintained a great reputation - and especially so for the fact that service (and people in general) in Houston tend to be kind and accommodating, not typically RUDE or reactionary. I'm encouraging this restaurant to have a look at the service model. I can't say I'll try Postino again the next time I'm in Houston, but I certainly hope it continues to truly earn its 4.5 star rating, 'cause they sure did NOT when I was there this weekend.
