I love trying little Jalisco places. I pass this place in the mornings and always see a line at their drive thru. That's always a good sign. What I wasn't expecting was to find EXTREME value in this spot. Remember 7.99 steak and eggs? I thought that was a thing of the past. Not here. Their menu is riddled with options and everything WILL not break the bank. You could even order double of what you get and it won't break the bank. Very affordable, very tasty. I ordered the chips de harina and specifically the warm salsa they serve you when you eat inside. For the second time now they gave me the salsa fresca but heated it up. Apparently,they think I don't know what I want. We've had this conversation twice now and unfortunately I assume that if I've had a 2 or 3 minute conversation specifically telling you,you gave me the wrong salsa last time,I'd like the right salsa this time and had to explain why,they'd get it right. But instead they gave me the wrong salsa and first some excuse about how it depends on who makes you the salsa or who serves it to you .then In the next breathe I was told,it was after three,which it wasn't and they don't make the warm salsa they give you at the table,no matter what time of day it is. I don't think I'll eat here again. The only thing I really like is the chips de harina and the salsa they give you inside. That's the honest truth,I buy a meal just so I can get those two things,I'm always disappointed in the actual meal. Everyday they have different plate specials for $5.99 and it includes a tea. Huevos $2.99 special, Migas $3.99. What's not to like? Hunger put us on high alert for a place to eat, and Mi Sierra's freshly painted building drew us to their parking lot. Once we got parked, we noticed their hand-written sign with the day's specials - Huevos, Migas - at prices we could enjoy. Turned out Mi Sierra was an excellent choice. They give you plastic bottles with several salsas with various levels of fire power and flavor, all of which were helpful if you like to kick your flavors up one or several notches. (I chose the red one, because it was light enough that I could slather on a lot!) Spouse and I both ordered our beloved Migas, which came with cubed-and-fried potatoes. How can you fry potatoes? Let me count the ways! These ones were browned, not greasy, and in my not-humble opinion, delicious carriers for the afore-mentioned red salsa. The Migas were . . . well, they were migas. The chunks of taco were noticeable, as we like them, and the eggs were . . . eggs. Nothing special, but no problem either. What aced it for me, though, was the beans. Far from your usual tasteless blah (can you tell I'm not a fan?) these were flavorful - and yes, I knew I was eating lard, but oh my goodness, these were good! Ate every bite of them, even when I had to leave some of the Migas on my plate. The server was pleasant, the prices were great, and the juke box kept playing songs from my youth (and no, I'm not going to tell you what decade). There is no wow in the tacos, they botched bean and cheese, the easiest taco to make. Beans aren't supposed to be watery, that's gross, they need to go to taco school or hang in grandma's kitchen some more. The staff isn't that attentive, never get offered a refill, always gotta beg for it. Seating is limited inside, and if the weather sucks outside, you're screwed. They messed up my order so bad that the manager said, on the phone, no problem give us your info we'll replace it the next time you come in. Next time came and they refused to give me my food. Claimed they'd never heard of me, I have been going in there for 4 years, and the manager didn't leave anything regarding me. There wasn't any effort made to check for my name ect. I live right across the street from this place and had been a loyal customer since their inception. I had even made it a point to bring in new customers to bolster their mom and pop economy. I come here about 3 times a week since I work a block away. The drive thru lady always recognizes me and says hello. Today I ordered the lunch special which comes with a sweet tea. I asked for half tea/half lemonade and I was still charged for the FULL price of a lemonade when I only got HALF. Seeing as that I'm a loyal costumer who ALWAYS tips even when I'm in the drive thru line, you'd think they would just not charge me. I'm very disappointed in the customer service. Oh boy, I can rebuke every negative review for this little mom and pop restuarant all day long, but the truth is that I came in from houston looking for an authentic Mexican food restuarant while taking courses at the university of texas dental branch on floyd curls and Louis Pasteur st., and found that their food is outstandingly authentic. My girlfriend and I just got our new home in the Hillcrest/Babcock and we were dying to find out what will be our new Taco Spot/Hangover Cure, we tried "Los Cocos" our first weekend at our new place and the breakfast tacos were decent at best so the following weekend we tried "Mi Sierra" and we fell in love, the eggs were perfect, tortillas were made fresh and they had a great special for 3 of the same tacos for a low price, the only reason we didn't give it 5 stars was because they didn't give us enough of their fantastic salsa, we made this our weekend morning hangover spot. read more
