This restaurant is our new meeting place with my Tio when we come to San Antonio. The food is so authentic! So delicious. The staff are always so attentive and the mariachi band never disappoints. My Dad has been gone for 4 years and I so wish that we would have been able to eat here together but having my Tio with me is also wonderful. Reviewing after second visit. Tried this place last week so decided to go back. The place is large and they have lots of parking but it gets full. The service is friendly and fast. The food is great and they don't skimp on the portions. The only negative is that they don't list drink prices on their menu so you have to ask. We came to Taqueria Mexico for breakfast after being recommended; if and when we are in town again, this is the place we will for sure come back to. As you walk in the door you are automatically greeted and seated. Everyone is so friendly and attentive. Adela was exceptionally friendly. She was awesome during our meal. The place has ample room for large groups and plenty of parking. The menu items are extensive as is the beverage menu. Everything we had was delicious! Let me get started with my drink I had the lemonade taste good but a bit sour. But my plate was banging yo!! The portions on the plate are very large and sometimes too big, super hard to finish the whole plate. But the chicken was great it was still moist and very tasty. Been coming here since they opened! Right by my childhood home, and absolutely never disappoints. The service is ALWAYS quick & correct. I can't remember a single time that they messed up an order for us. Management is kind and concerned with quality of service and customer satisfaction. I just spent the last 20 minutes opening up all 4 burritos I ordered (lengua, al pastor, barbacoa, and beef fajita) and scraping out as much sour cream and guacamole as I could so that my husband - who hates both - could actually try and eat something. Nowhere on the online ordering menu does it say that the burritos are absolutely DOUSED with sour cream and guacamole. And loaded with lettuce, (underripe chunks of) tomato, and cheese. And they came with no red salsa!! What the?? I didn't realize I was ordering from an American place masquerading as Mexican food. Mexican burritos should have onions and cilantro and salsa on them. Maybe guacamole on carne asada, but that's it. It's a shame because the meats are kind of good. But their flavor is masked by some very very wrong accompanying ingredients. Plates were hot, which made the cheese gooey, and the sauce didn't make the food cool like some places where cold sauce makes the dish only warm. Service was good, waitress was there everything we needed refills. Tortillas were in house made flour, so good. Parking was horrendous, but eventually found a spot. They were very busy inside, it was a Friday night. The decor is beautiful with many conversation pieces. They have an extensive menu and it was very difficult to make a decision. So I went with my usual - cheese enchilada plate. The gravy was good, the cheese was just right, and the corn tortillas were ok. I loved the rice and the beans were ok. The chicken fajita taco was good, but my friend wished she ordered the shredded chicken instead. My other friend ordered the chicken burrito, which came with shredded chicken, but wished he had specified the fajita chicken pieces. Oh well - they should have traded meals. My regular spot for breakfast tacos was closed so I looked this place up. They have a sit down restaurant and a drive thru which made things convenient. Service through the drive thru was very quick. I ordered a Monday - Friday special or 3 bean and cheese tacos for $3. Tortillas were fresh, beans were good. Cheese was your generic shredded cheddar cheese and was halfway melted. I had the birria and a Lengua taco and my mom had the Carnitas plate special of the day. The restaurant was not crowded there was plenty of parking. The dining area had thick custom wooden chairs and tables highly varnished from Mexico. They had desserts they had lots of fresh waters agua frescas to choose from. I chose hibiscus also known as Jamaica. they let me know if the corn tortillas were not homemade. On this date they had run out. Service was attentive and intuitive they knew what we expect with our meals birria came with cilantro, onion and limes. It was a big portion enough to take home. We come here once, twice, sometimes 3 times a week. We're regulers. The food is always good, waitresses and waiters are very nice. It's a little pricey compared to other restaurants in the area. (Like Altenos, Taqaria Hacienda, and a few others close by) They are about $4 to $5 more than the other restaurants. When they went up on the prices, they didn't go up .50 or $1 like most of the other Mexican restaurants, they went up between $3, $4 to $5 per plate. Fajita quesadillas were $9.99 or $10.99. Can't recall, now they are $14.99. Enchilada Deluxe plate was $10.99, now $13.99. We go because we enjoy the food and we can. Right now at least. The reason for the 4 stars is because when we go, they always have mariachis playing. I personally don't have a problem with mariachis, but I don't want them playing at my table when I'm trying to have a conversation with someone across from me. They are too loud, I can't have a conversation. We have to yell at each other, just hear each other. Other than that, if you have the money, I recommend going here. You'll like the food. Servings are decent. To get a very good deal, go on Fridays during lent. They have very good lent specials. Fish and shrimp plate, shrimp quesadellias, and about 5 or 6 other plates at $9.99. Very good deal. Last week, I had the fish and shrimp and a shrimp cocktail. My wife had the shrimp quesadillas. Pics attached. Go try them out. You will love the food, service, and staff. We visited this restaurant on Feb 9, 2024. This was the first time we ate there and were excited to taste their food. We ordered their enchilada plate and were shocked to see how big their portions were. Sadly, I forgot to take a photo of the plate. The enchiladas were covered with melted yellow cheese as well as the bean tostada served on a separate plate with lettuce, tomatoes and fresh cheese to put over our taco. Everything was delicious and the ambience was great. They have mariachis but only on the weekend. we thoroughly enjoyed our visit and plan to go back often. We highly recommend it. read more
