Popped in here while wandering around the area and stumbling into the Krampus parade. Grabbed a spot at the bar and the friendly guy next to us told us about the happy hour specials. We got the Chalupas, Chicken Sopes and the Gorditas. We also got happy hour drinks. The food was really good and so were the drinks. The atmosphere was fun and we talked to several locals. The only reason I knocked off a star was the bartender was not real friendly to us and took my bf's food order then walked away. After 3 or 4 minutes I was able to get his attention and tell him 'Hey, I didn't order yet!'. He was less then apologetic and said he just assumed he was ordering for both of us. He was definitely more interested in chatting with his local friends then serving a couple of out of towners. But the food was good and so was the drink. read more

This is a great small restaurant and bar. The service is always great and the staff is very friendly. This is located on S. Alamo in the King William District in what looks to be an old storefront .We have been several times and the food has never disappointed. We started with the Ceviche with fish and it was on point with lots of flavor. I went for the Enchiladas Trio and picked the Mole, Cilantro Cream, and the Tejana. All were exceptional with the Cilantro was at the top in my opinion. I washed it down with the Presidential Margarita which complimented everything. My coworker was raving about Tito's so we visited during our lunch break. I was a little disappointed by the chips and salsa that proceeded the meal. The chips seemed to be heated up store bought chips and I questioned if the salsa was from a jar until my friend pointed out a large chunk of onion. I got the Mario plate and I thought everything was okay. I ordered corn tortillas on the side and they were definitely homemade. The beef that came on the plate was the highlight of my meal. Great spot with authentic Mexican food. I enjoyed the 4 mini Barbacoa tacos banados 5/5. They came with Charro beans, the beans were OK to me 3/5. Additionally, I ordered the queso con Chile, it was more on the watery side but flavorful 4/5. Lastly I got a Chamoy mango margarita 5/5, yummy! I came on a Saturday afternoon and it wasn't busy at all. The service was good and they had music playing, but I would say it was moderately loud. I've been coming to Tito's for the past 8 years, and it has always been a great experience. Unfortunately, today was the complete opposite. Our waiter, Erick, was very rude and made the experience uncomfortable from the start. He repeatedly overemphasized extra charges for items like sour cream and habanero salsa--things I've never been charged for before. When I mentioned that, he looked over at my phone in a way that felt invasive and inappropriate. It also became very uncomfortable when he went to the bar, pointed at our table, and spoke about us to other staff. Another waiter later approached us and began discussing the situation, which made it even more awkward, as it was clear we were being talked about. While we were offered a free meal, that was never our goal. We simply wanted to enjoy a good meal and have a pleasant experience like we always have in the past. I love the authentic Mexican food at Tito's in Southtown. I tried something different this time and I was not disappointed. Rather than ordering my usual enchiladas, I tried a Torta and it was so good with the soft bread surrounding the tender meat, it melted in my mouth. I'm so glad I got out of my comfort zone and tried something new because it was a wonderful meal. Complimented by a margarita on the rocks and chips and salsa, I may have found a new favorite dish at Titos. I love their traditional, authentic dishes that are always flavorful and perfectly seasoned. It's such a cute, vibrant restaurant in a very cool historic building in the heart of South Town. Great place that you would drive right past. Met friends who knew about it. Service great, very nice guy taking care of us. Huge front windows to watch the travel-byers. Started with chips and salsa, green (hot hot) and red. Nice flavors. Chips so so but fresh, like doritos. Got the chili con queso which was delish. Double barrel margaritas were 5 star and packed a nice punch. The wife got the ceviche tostadas and enjoyed. I got mini tacos el pastor. They were good but not like I have had before. Thick sauce on these. We will definitely be back for the Margs and maybe try enchiladas or their tacos or barbacoa or ........Great beans served too. And the prices were not bad. We were down at riverwalk, looking for something that was Texmex and vegetarian. It was a Monday night, so some of the places nearby weren't open, others just didn't have many options So we expanded our search to within a mile of where we were. This place came up, and met the criteria plus it had some good reviews. We decided to take a short walk up Alamo street - maybe about .7 miles with construction - and check it out. The place is large and very noisy (as others have noted) and doesn't look anything like the more touristy places in riverwalk. It's more of a local place as far as I can tell. But it was really worth the walk. There were many vegetarian options, and some fish. It was great. And the price point was good too. Around $12 for each dish. The only downside really, was the service was a little slow at times. But that was not a big deal overall. The waiter helped us make some slight adjustments for specific tastes, and verified the beans are vegetarian. Terrific. We had the Baja fish tacos, and two enchiladas - one shrimp and one spinach. The food here is really good. But unfortunately this experience that I have had today was a huge let down. My wife and I waited here for 20+ minutes and finally the waitress came and said "are you ready to order?"... never once did someone come and ask what we wanted to drink (they did put water on the table when we sat). The only thing our waitress did when we were sat was give us the happy hour menu and leave. Then we waited for 20+ minutes for her to come back. Even after our order was taken by the waitress, she didn't come back to ask if we needed anything else like to clear our table or the empty cups or the empty chips basket... When our food was brought out we were not given our tortillas and it was nearly impossible to get her attention. I had to go up to the register and ask and finally she came to our table and asked if we wanted tortillas.... I came here with high hopes and expectations because the previous time my wife and I ate here our waiter was AWESOME! So shout out that guy who serves the bar room area. He's the goat. I would have tolerated waiting this long if she would've at least communicated that she was busy or something else besides us just waiting without a word said. Made the mistake of trying Tito's this morning for the first time since there is always a crowd there when we are in King William. Both my wife and I ordered breakfast plates--hers was the chorizo and egg and mine, huevos rancheros. The restaurant was empty besides one diner sitting outside with her dog and one family inside which should have been a red flag to stay away. My chorizo and potatoes were cold and my beans were not hot either. This was not like it had cooled down--cold. The ranchero sauce looked bad and all of the food on my plate had no flavor, no seasoning, literally no effort whatsoever. I had a bug crawl across my hand while we were there as well. She had the issue with her plate, food was not even warm. The tortillas were hot and tasted good so that was how I warmed up my food. Our waiter also decided that he would cross the street to go speak to a woman at the little outdoor patio restaurant across the street on the corner. Not kidding, he was there for at least five or ten minutes just talking to her. I have always wanted to try Tito's and wanted something new to us but I guarantee there is no way we will ever go back. Tito's is by far one of the best Mexican food restaurants I've had in years. So satisfying that the hubs and I hated we were full. Everything was excellent. The service, the food, the freshness, the seasoning on the steak and shrimp, the vibe and atmosphere. It's the perfect lunch spot. You can wear whatever you want, sweats, shorts, jeans, etc. If you're looking for somewhere upscale or fancy, this is not the place. This is your down home, simple and low key, bring your empty stomach and grub type of spots. Super authentic food and service. We absolutely loved our waiter and hit some good tips about San Antonio. Hooray for puffy tacos! Due to a perfect combination of reviews, proximity, and operating hours, we hit up Tito's for our Puffy Taco fix for our trip in SA. I would describe Tito's as your laid-back, neighborhood Mexican restaurant, with the neighborhood having a college-town vibe. The menu is no-frills and packed with plenty of perennial favorites. Coming in from Fort Worth, the goal was Puffy Tacos and whatever other dishes I do not often see up my way. I ended up getting the Puffy Taco plate and a gordita as well. Both were filling and delicious! The SA Puffy Taco lives up to the hype with this crispy and doughy shell and I'm amazed as to how many good dishes we miss out in DFW after seeing what's on the menu at Tito's. We had a great trip in SA and plan to make it an annual thing. That of course will require another stop in at Tito's for more Puffy Tacos. read more

My family and I tried a variety of items at Tito's Mexican Restaurant. Prices were reasonable for a downtown San Antonio restaurant. Highlights of our dinner included the shrimp and crab tostino appetizer - it was piled high with a great flavor, the combo plate with a gordita, crispy taco and flouta was good, but next time I will order a la carte because I wasn't crazy about the rice. My mom enjoyed her shrimp enchilada and beef fajitas. We both tried one sopapilla with honey, but ultimately decided to leave the rest because we didn't care for them (we prefer fluffier sopapillas). I'll pass on dessert next time, but will definitely return. Overall, everyone enjoyed their meal and we had a great servicer who checked on us often and kept our drinks filled. read more

I usually go to Pete's Taco, but they were already closed when I wanted puffy tacos. So I decided to give Tito's a try. Parking was not as hard as I thought it would be, guess I got lucky that time of day. Not a lot of customers at that time I went, that's 2 wins so far, so I thought, my server not so much. Luckily there were a couple other female servers that took care of my needs, luckily. So I will consider it a win. We stayed walking distance to this joint. And man, we could not get enough! I'd say, give yourself enough time. You may wait awhile before the host(ess) seats you ... but that did not take away from the experience. Their drinks are substantial, and reasonably priced. Their food? Next level. QUICK FACTS: - Parking? Street parking around the area. There is an extremely small lot behind the restaurant, but good luck trying to park there. - Reservations? No, it doesn't seem like there's an option online. Maybe try calling. - Happy hour? Yes, M-F from 5-7pm. Special priced drinks and food. FOOD RATINGS: - Queso with chorizo (5/5): Yummy queso in a hot skillet served with fresh flour tortillas! Great flavor and perfectly melty cheese. - Beef and shrimp fajitas (4/5): The meats were well-seasoned and the beans were incredibly flavorful. I only knock a star because you don't get the usual sides with it (sour cream, shredded cheese, and they didn't bring me any tortillas - though there were some on the table for the entire party). The skillet was truly burning hot, so some of the rice burnt and stuck to the plate. It was nice though that it stayed hot the entire time to keep your food fresh. - Fresh strawberry limeade (2/5): I was excited for this but then disappointed when I tasted it. I'm so stuffed! Tito's definitely hit the spot on a night out in Southtown. We usually frequent Rosario's which is still under construction so we decided to try Tito's and we're so happy we did. They had happy hour going until 7 pm so we got a few items off of that menu like the chalupas and nachos. Everything came out SUPER quick which we appreciated as we were starving. Food was hot and yummy. I had the cheese enchiladas and ate everything off of my plate. The shareable chili con queso was hot and melty, just right! You must be extremely patient when they are busy. We were expecting a wait on a Friday night, which there was. Two parties in front of us and they only took the first parties number down. The lady in front of us complained and asked why they couldn't take her number and the guy mentioned because they did not have anymore tables available. We waited in line for about 40 minutes and the line was growing. It seemed they do not have an official host, which ever staff can help will seat you. A staff member finally took our name down and told us it would be 15 or so more minutes. No worries we waited. Was visiting San Antonio for the weekend with some friends and looking for a good Tex Mex place in Downtown/Southtown area. Was so pleased to find this place! The vibes are fantastic, and there was both a restaurant area and bar area (both equipped with regular tables). We were seated immediately on a Saturday night and had relatively quick service. My friend also asked for a recommendation from the waiter, ordered what he suggested, and was extremely happy with the choice. So it is safe to say the service was great! The food and drinks were also immaculate. The complimentary chips and salsa were so tasty, and the main dishes were even better. I ordered Marquito's Favorite Plate and was really impressed by each part of it. We all left dinner very satisfied. Loved our meal at Tito's. In town for the week as tourists, Tito's is right on the bus stop for the SA "hop on hop off" trail and was thus pointed out to us by a few drivers. Tito's doesn't appear to be a tourist trap though, much more a local spot that tourists can be fortunate enough to partake of. Loud, modern music pumping inside and a hyper casual environment. I had a plate of barbacoa tacos, my wife had two of the famous SA "fluffy tacos", one beef and one chicken (she preferred the overall flavor of the beef one). The menu had a wide variety of options from nachos to fajitas. They were pretty busy for a Friday evening so it was difficult at times to get our servers attention. Of all the touristy restaurants situated in downtown San Antonio, I was looking for something that was the complete opposite. Situated on Alamo St are several bars & restaurants (within walking distance of all the touristy spots) that seem to be a breath of non touristy fresh air. Highly recommend sitting at the bar, best service by Francisco and fast/friendly & helpful service. I really wasn't sure what I was in the mood to eat or drink and he was very helpful. I went with a mango margarita (tajin rim of course). So fresh! So good! Fresh muddled mango is the way to go. For food I wanted a little variety and went with "Sara's Favorite". The cilantro cream enchilada was by far my favorite and I wish I would have went with just those. The carne a La Mexicana it came with was just okay. I wasn't a big fan of the homemade corn tortillas either. They were super thick and heavy for my liking. I did appreciate that they were made in house though! Great laid back, genuine feel in this place. I would definitely come back when in the area. This restaurant was full without being overly packed. Definitely a good sign in my book. read more

I stumbled upon this joint whilst walking around on first Friday. Obviously they were busy but were able to seat three of us very quickly. We sat in the bar area and they had a few TVs casting sports. We started out with an order of queso and it was good. I ordered 2 tacos: one bean and cheese and the other was al pastor. You can't mess up on bean and cheese, enough said. I was not a fan of the pastor taco. It tasted very similar to the meat of a sloppy Joe. It had the same exact texture. Me and my family were walking by and were hesitant because San Antonio Mexican food has been bad, but this place was phenomenal. First off our server was cool as hell. And he was everywhere helping out inside and outside, in the kitchen and in the bar. The place is way bigger on the inside. We got some beef fajita habanero nachos and it did have a good kick to it, but the meat was so soft, and they put frijoles on it too, that was great, felt authentic like home.
