I've lived in SALINAS for close to 40 years, and have had the good fortune to patronize some exceptionally authentically real Mexican food, just like my jefita's, Mi Tierra is one of these, especially their chicken mole. When I'm in the mood I'll call for takeout and it's prepared quickly. It's nice to know when I get home with my meal it's going to taste great. I recall when they were located on Gavilan the site was smaller but the quality of food and service as it is now superb, now it's location has more space. One other benefit is its right around the corner form public parking and Mi Tierra will validate your parking for three hours. We ordered food from here and ate next door at XL to watch the Raider's game. Excellent Tacos, large portions. A bit on the greasy side, but decent. I've eaten here before, but it was much better this time. They also told us to wait next door and watch the game. They brought the food to us. With the portion size, I got 2 meals for $11 plus tips. Walked in here for lunch today, and the smell was so bad we couldn't sit there and eat and just ran out. It smelled like a sewer. Not what you want to smell when you're sitting down to eat. Restaurant was empty except for one table of four. Don't know what was going on there. read more

Do not eat here!! I know there's plenty of Mexican restaurants in town so I totally recommend checking those out. Initially after reviewing the menu and prices I thought I would be getting a decent meal. I ended up with a plate of hard to chew steak and chicken. A pig's trough, repugnant guacamole, stale chips, fake canned tomato salsa, expired meat and old lettuce and tomatoes on my tostada . The experience today was extremely disturbing, I have no idea why people, mostly those who don't know real Mexican food would eat in this filthy restaurant. I called the health department today to report them. Been to this restaurant about 4 or 6 times and for the most part the food is alright. The first 2 visits, the service was mediocre. However more recent the service has gotten worse. Twice I had a gentlemen that served me and each visit rather than greeting me he would practically toss the menu on the table with a rude attitude as if he didn't want to be there and walk away with no words, back to his conversations with his family or friends waiting in front of the register. I'd figured if they noticed that I've been eating at their restaurant more than a few times that would be more appreciative for patronage. Recent visit to Mi Tierra was AWFUL!!! From the unwelcoming temperment of the waitstaff to the serving of the food, was literally cringe worthy. This place is a seat yourself type. So our party of five found a table in the back. Really bad spot near cashier booth and restrooms. I've had one particular guy on several occassions who takes my order stares at the ceiling with an annoyed look on his face. We get him, this time he's only bring us chips and salsa. He comes back with chips and salsa, only as he sets it down his thumb is like an inch and a half submerged in our salsa. The guy then plunges his dripping salsa-covered-thumb into his mouth to lick it off as he walks away. We request another one...and you're not going to believe this, it happens again, yes folks thumb in our salsa twice. We then strategize and decide to ask the waitress for a new one. To which she looks annoyed and said something to us in Spanish in a chastising tone. We had to look this remark up on Google Translation and found we were going to be charged extra. To our utter disbelief her thumb plunges into our salsa as she sets the bowl down. I'M DONE!!! Not going back here. They are rude people, who are not reponsibly following safe food handling and sanitation practices. You've been warned folks!! read more

I was here about a year ago with my coworkers for dinner. I was enjoying the chips and salsa when I realized there was something plastic in the salsa. I picked it out and saw that it was a bunch of chewed up gum wrapped up in that plastic wrapper! I was sooo grossed out and told one of my coworkers who had told the waiter. My coworker said, "We're not going to eat here because we found wrapped up gum in our salsa." The waiter has nothing to say. I came here a lot of times and ordered tostadas de ceviche every time. Every time the tostadas were delicious, but the last couple of visits I was not impressed any more. I do not know what happened, but the tostadas de ceviche are not consistent. I also ordered some nachos and was really disappointed. This is the BBBEEESSSTTT Restaurant in Salinas. Their caldo de pescado is the best. Their tostadas don't even get me started, they are very consistant with the amount's of food they give you . Happened upon this place looking for breakfast. What a find! My chile rellenos were right up there with the best fresh made rellenos I've ever had. Cooked to perfection ! The portions are so large. Bad, Bad, Bad! I was going here for years but when they changed employees, it all went downhill. I gave it chance after chance because this was my FAVORITE posole I've ever had. The first time I was disappointed was when the older lady would bluntly ignore me and wouldn't even make eye contact with me when I didn't speak back to her in spanish. I just feel like if you're trying to provide a service, you should accommodate the customer in their language. The second time I was disappointed, I went with my bf and this time our server was a mid aged man who I caught drinking out of a flask when he would go in the kitchen after talking to us. His service suffered due to this and took forever to come back to the table for anything from taking our order to giving us the check. We waited for half an hour to get our total. Longest lunch service I've ever endured and it wasn't even busy. Third time, I went to eat here for dinner and the door was locked. I looked through the glass door and there was a women sitting in the back of the restaurant. I checked the hours of operation and I was there within those hours so I knocked on the door and the woman looked up at me and then looked back down at her phone. I haven't been back there since. Although I do miss their posole, I will not be returning. I only gave them two stars and not just one because the food is good. read more

Really good food and a great place to go for lunch. Oldtown Salinas has life in it. We order by phone often and bring it back to the office. Way better is to go there and eat. Hot food, warm plates, generous portions and friendly staff. The ladies from our office seem to like the waiters...quirky senses of humor I think. Try it out.
