We usually love this restaurant. Tonight was not a good night. We have had the Caesar salad before and it is usually large enough to feed 4 people. This was much smaller. I had the frutti de mare. It was not as flavorful as I remember it being and the portion was mostly spaghetti. The mussels and clams were tiny. The calamari was tender and easy to cut, but was very bland. This was a very disappointing meal from a restaurant that is usually outstanding.

This place is a Hillcrest hidden gem. It's super casual, never overly busy, quiet and serves reasonably priced authentic Italian food. I normally get the eggplant Parmesan or lasagna which are both really amazing and I highly recommend. This time I went and tried something different, Linguine Ai Frutti di Mare. I've never had it before anywhere and it wasn't my favorite. It just kind of lacked flavor for me. It needed some more butter or cheese or something. My husband ordered the TONNO ROSSO ALLE NOCCIOLE which was really good. It was crunchy on the outside and super flavorful. We both shared the Caesar salad and we actually both had a little bit of leftovers to take home.

Incredible. The artichoke was dreamy. The pasta divine. Service was great. Can't believe I've never been before now.

We came here for the first time. It's a slightly small restaurant with less than ten tables. There's a full bar area. It's quaint and welcoming. We made a reservation (highly recommended) thus we got seated right away. The waitress was friendly. We ordered prosciutto di parma e burrata to start. We each ordered a pasta dish. I ordered linguini with seafood. The portion was big but not a lot of flavor. I think it would taste better if white wine sauce has stronger flavor. I liked Gnocchi Sorrentina. salmone in padella had good flavor. I really liked tiramisu which is a huge reason for me to go back.

We had a great dinner with friends at Mia Trattoria this week. We really enjoyed it. The service was wonderful, attentive and we did not feel rushed at all. Food was great as well. (We were super hungry and engaged in conversation so I didn't take food pics.). Great little neighborhood Italian spot.

    It was delicious!

Stopped in for a bite to eat before our flight home. Right in a neighborhood, clean, inviting and great all around feel. On the smaller side which isn't a con at all. Drinks and food are fantastic. So good we ate it without taking photos. I'd highly recommend this spot if you're in the area. Cheers

Came here for date night, such a cute spot. We had the lobster ravioli and fettuccine with the mushroom sauce and both were good! We loved the calamari app, that was delicious. Staff were very friendly.

Everything is great! First time eating here and it's a wonderful little spot on the corner with lots of available street parking. The outside tables were clean and patio decently quiet with available heaters. The service was polite and speedy while the food clearly made from scratch and rich tasting . We will be back.

First off we were waiting outside for a time, not sure why? We were able to get a table no problem on a Saturday evening. However it seemed like they prefer a reservation. The inside is darling, it feels very European. Service is lovely. They did forget our bread but no biggie. I had a caesar salad and it was divine. The bread was just so-so. A think a varied homemade bread basket would have been a vast improvement. Many tempting dishes on the menu. Most entrees come with a pasta side. I opted for the chicken saltimboca. My mom made a variant of this dish: thin, tender sauteed chicken scallops wrapped in prociutto, and finished in a delicate white wine sauce. Sadly, Mia's version was one tough-as-a-workboot breast wrapped in prociutto and served atop a tablespoon flavorless sauce. It tasted like zero seasonings were used, no salt. No wine detected. The chicken breast was bone dry and overcooked. What I really needed was a steak knife to cut through it. The pasta aside it also had no seasonings, no taste whatsoever. Maybe Mia's is better with red sauce dishes? I don't know. But I was not impressed. Well at least I can vouch for the Caesar- very good!

I've longed for authentic Italian cuisine since returning from Hawaii . Michele , was friendly and skillful in assisting us navigate a plethora of culinary options ...They crushed it ,.,,the Chianti was spectacular too BELLISSIMA!!!!

Broken pieces of clam found in dish. It was alarming!

It's a cute little Italian restaurant nestled in a neighborhood on 1st Avenue and Upas Street in Bankers Hill. Service can be on the patio or seating indoors. They have another restaurant in downtown San Diego. The food... they can make a vegetarian dish into vegan and they have gluten free options! I ordered a Vermentino, a white Italian wine with soft salinity, peach and lemon with a cozy mouthfeel; as it's a good substitute for a Chardonnay that can be a buttered wood bomb. I ordered a Caesar salad served for two in a wooden plastic bowl, no anchovies detected. Our server gave us lots of time to chill between courses and probably was alarming as the manager checked in on us too. We ordered clams in an olive oil sauce ( no dairy or spice), it was savory. "Mindful eating with shellfish or bones, you will run across hard pieces. Don't freak out. Be careful." The panna cotta was a thick custard with chocolate drizzle. Overall, it was a good experience. We will go again.

This place exceeded every one of them. Nestled in a quiet residential neighborhood, Wolf in the Woods feels like a hidden European café you'd stumble upon while traveling. Sitting outside beneath the umbrellas with a cocktail, watching the neighborhood stroll by. It felt like a little corner cafe in Paris. Then the food arrived. Every plate was beautifully presented, but the real magic was in the creativity of the flavors. The combinations were unexpected, yet every one worked. Every dish had me wondering how on earth someone came up with these pairings in the first place. The Sweet Corn & Piñon Soup deserves a standing ovation. We literally stopped talking after the first spoonful. Rich, savory, slightly sweet, comforting and completely unexpected all at the same time. Both of our eyes rolled back in our heads. The Beef Tataki completely surprised me. The outside had a delicate seared crust, the inside cut like butter, and the citrus pairing made me rethink what flavors belong together. And the mushroom and polenta dish? The mushrooms had an incredible texture--like savory little pieces of mushroom jerky. I would have happily bought a pound of them just to snack on. Every dish felt like it was taking me somewhere I'd never been before, yet somehow felt familiar at the same time. Wolf in the Woods creates an unforgettable experience.
