Located right along the Smokey Mountain Parkway, let GPS be your guide. There is a large 50's style neon sign out front for the Miami motel restaurant. The roadside-style motel is defunct with boarded up doors and broken windows but don't let that deter you. Just go to the back of the parking lot to the building with red shutters. There is a decent amount of parking with one handicapped space by the door. There are steps going up to the door, so bear this in mind if you are mobility-challenged. On entering, there is a small counter to the left with the cash register. We were greeted as we entered and told to sit anywhere. Seating is all tables, either two or four tops. While it is definitely an older building it is clean and bright inside. Our server came as soon as we sat down and took our drink order. She returned in maybe a minute with the drinks and took the food order. She was very pleasant and an obvious professional. The menu is fairly large but simple to understand. You can select one egg and then add whatever other protein you want. The eggs come with biscuit or toast, and grits or gravy, so it's easy to assemble the meal just for you. They also have omelets, pancakes, and French toast so you can easily find something you like. The food arrived in no more than five minutes. This was unexpectedly quick but everything was cooked as ordered and hot off the grill. The eggs were cooked perfectly and the sausage ordered with the eggs was hand patted. I would have preferred two sausage patties but the one provided was very tasty. The biscuits are obviously homemade. The sausage gravy had some sausage bits evident and I did add pepper (a personal preference) and it was very good. The Western omelet had all ingredients cooked in with the eggs. The hash browns were more like home fries and crispy on the outside and soft inside. There were not many people here when we were, but they did have several take out orders. Service was very good as was the food. This is certainly an instance of not judging a book by its cover and may be the most accurate description of a hidden gem. read more

We were refused service at 140 pm. I do understand that it was 20 minutes until closing however the tone that was given was not inviting (met at the door). My husband surprised me this morning by taking me to breakfast somewhere we've never been but had great reviews. This place is deceiving. It is located on an abandoned hotel, looks run down, but has some incredibly delicious food. We didn't have to wait for a table at all. It's "seat yourself," so you walk in and sit down. Very convenient. The server was quick to attend to us. I ordered the French toast, and my husband ordered some platter with a bunch of yummy dishes (biscuits and gravy, eggs, corned beef hash and hash browns). We were both pleasantly surprised and didn't leave a bite uneaten. It took about 15 minutes after we were done eating to figure out that they didn't bring your ticket to the table, lol. You have to go to the register when your done and they will ring you out. My only 2 complaints were 1)how awkwardly close the register is to the door, you couldn't close your ticket without someone running into you coming in the establishment; 2) the server could have smiled a little, even half a smile would have sufficed. But she was efficient. It kinda reminded me of an old truck stop where a bunch of angry old ladies worked, but you still ate there because the food was too good not to. Lol. If this rating was based purely on food quality, Miami would get a solid three stars - the food is fine but not life-changing, just your basic good quality diner fare. The shining exception is the home fries, which in my view are excellent. This place gets bumped up a star for two reasons: First, it's authentic. It doesn't presume to be something it's not. It's been around forever and is there to serve the local Candler folk. And it's full of those folk every single day it's open. Second, the service just couldn't be any better. It's provided by two southern belles - funny, sassy, and possessing an unaffected charm that makes you feel like you're part of the family. The one that started last has been there for 17 years. Give Miami a try, and don't forget to strike up a conversation. This place is about more than just the food. read more

This is a simple place with hot food, not amazing, but definitely not bad! I loved the omelette I had, and the biscuits were good. The bathroom is hilarious, you have to grease up your backside and squeeze your fat butt (if you're large like me) in to get in front of the toilet. Having lived in Candler for a number of years, we have continually meant to go in here, but only seem to remember that on Sundays, when they aren't open. Saturday morning is our only chance, and we finally remembered today. However, we walked in at 10:58, and they close at 11:00. I felt bad, but we were assured that it was definitely not a problem and they'd be happy to serve us, and happy they were. The place was just fantastic. It's everything you think of when you imagine a little diner where everyone knows everyone. Food was both delicious and incredibly cheap, plus quick as lightning. I finally tried livermush for the first time. Not bad at all. We will absolutely be back, and I wouldn't mind making a weekly tradition out of it. read more

The restaurant is a surprise when you enter it considering it is located on the back lot of a dilapidated out of business motel. It is very clean and not what you would expect from just passing by on the road. But as you enter the parking lot you will notice that it is filled with cars of locals and those who have discovered this unexpected little dinner. The food is well prepared and the staff is very accommodating to your needs. The prices are a little higher than what I expected but still reasonable I suppose for the cost of eating out these days. I would at least recommend trying it for a change from the fast food giants of today. Don't let the run down sign and the old motel throw you off as it did me, it is a really well kept and clean restaurant on the inside. read more

This is a local hang out. It's a hole in the wall that serves locally ground sausage for breakfast. They have your staples for Breakfast as well as omelets, liver mush and gravy. Very busy, closes at 11am on Saturday. If you aren't seated at 11am you don't get to eat. They are closed on Sunday and only serve breakfast /lunch M-F. I enjoy the Mediterranian omelet with feta, spinach and mushrooms. The tea is super sweet. read more

Breakfast was excellent! Highly recommend it. Beware though! At some point they will ask you, "toast or biscuits?" While this may seem like a simple and straightforward question, I urge you to answer with caution...and also answer toast. You're getting biscuits regardless. The real question they should be asking is "Do you want a side of toast with your biscuits, or would you rather eat so many biscuits that you turn into a biscuit?" Now if your goal in life is to turn into a biscuit then, by all means, answer biscuit. Just don't come crying to me when some crazy guy tries to pour gravy on you and cut you. Or jelly. Even though this place is surrounded by an abandoned motel, don't let that fool you. I went for lunch and got a bacon cheeseburger with fries. The food was simple, but delicious in every way and I really enjoyed it. Lots of yummy lunch options and everything seems very affordable. Also, the waitress was really nice too. We should have waited until we saw a Waffle House, it would have much been better than this...the now closed motel is completely off putting and you're definitely sketched out, but then you pull into the lot and see quite a few cars in front of the small restaurant and the cleaner looking exterior of the place and have a small sigh of relief. Walk inside, it's dingy, we look for the cleanest table and sit. Order food, drinks come, I grab the sugar and pour some in my coffee, as I'm putting the container down I notice ants, ants inside the sugar container. WTH, so gross. Told server, she scrunched her face and mumbled "dammit", in a way that indicates this isn't an unusual occurrence, and took the container away, a new and clean one wasn't offered. Food arrives, biscuits are soft on top and hard on the bottom, eggs were undercooked, breakfast potatoes looked like half mashed baked potato chunks saturated in a yellow grease. This place was a suggestion based on a suggestion by a local and there were definitely plenty of locals in there - Why? I have no idea. read more
