Went to Michael Alberini's with my family for my mom's retirement party. It was the second time I had ever been there. The first experience a few years before wasn't great. But this second experience was sooo much better. Everyone enjoyed the atmosphere and the food. Our server was very good. I got the lavender mint lemonade cocktail which was awesome and also the salmon which was pretty good. Parking is very easy because they have a huge lot. I would definitely go back again. read more

Went there for a nice dinner with my husband last week and it was a strange experience. First of all, the ambiance would have been pretty decent except for the fact that their dining room chairs were office chairs? Like on wheels and everything. Very strange and ugly. We walked in and were greeted by awkward hosts and then once sat we didn't have any server come over to us for 5-10 minutes until some man in carpenter clothing and a clipboard asked us if our server has been over yet. Nope. The server was actually very nice but kind of clueless and didn't let us finish ordering before running off to do something else. So attention isn't really on you when you dine here. The apps were pretty good- I would recommend the crab cake- that was good, although it needs some coleslaw or something on the plate with it. The steak was a weird texture and undercooked but you know, good enough. The really strange and off putting thing about dining here was that 1. to get sauce on your steak, you need to pay an EXTRA $6.00 ! and 2. after they swipe your credit card, you see snuck on the bill a 3.5% CREDIT CARD PROCESSING FEE! I have never in my life seen that at a restaurant, especially not an "up scale" (ish) place. How tacky and sneaky. I think the owner is trying to squeeze every penny out of this place as he can. Even the wine on your bill comes as $14 for the bottle and $15 for a 'corking fee'. Instead of $29 for the bottle lol. I did not like the experience and wouldn't recommend. read more

I was expecting a fantastic dinner. Heard good things about the restaurant. However, I found it to be just so, so. Nothing special. The Capresa salad was average. Tomatoes were flavorless and on the hard side. Aspen Medallions were not cooked to what I requested and had a very strange bitter flavor to the sauce. Two others ordered the chicken and greens. Could not eat because the chicken was dry and the greens were over salted. I expected to have somewhat of a higher quality of patrons. I had a party at Michaels. I reserved for 48 people and the restaurant ran out of food. When I informed the staff that people did not get food I was told they couldn't do anything. That's all the food there was. After much complaining they did bring food out but by that point everyone else was done eating. Also, the food they put out looked reheated. I love this place. As in love. Long story short, this is the ONLY place in the Valley that will give you a big city type dining experience at half the price without the drive. The menu is expansive but always well-executed and impeccably attended by wait staff. I generally keep to steak here, but have enjoyed the mahi and a few other items. I have never been served a poor dinner. The baseball sirloin is my go-to. Paired with one of their sauces and yukon gold potato sides it is not a Morton's or Ruth's Cris, but it is much better than the XO I paid three times as much for in Beachwood not long ago. A few touches of their that never go unappreciated: Michael is ALWAYS there and usually will personally visit your table to check on your dinner. Its genuine and sincere. You understand why his name is on the door. Salute, Michael! The appetizer specials are insanely good. Don't pass. Even the simple salad dressing and bread butter are delectable. I could eat a bowl of the butter. They cut no corners. So much pride in all they do. If I had to find one complaint here it is. For a higher end restaurant in a strip plaza co located with discount stores and a hunting-fishing superstore, the interior is very classy. Tasteful decor and finely appointed. So why are the tables stacked on one another? Move a few out as they are never-rarely all full, and consider upgrading the Georgetown banquet chairs to a level of quality befitting everything else Michael's represents. Some space between my quiet dinner out with my lovely wife and not listening to that soccer mom's college search stories told at ever increasing volume levels during her big wine night out with the ladies would be a nice, befitting improvement. Congrat on your daughter's ACT score though, Mom. But FTR, NCAA D3 schools don't offer athletic scholarships. Stop lying to your friends. Remember, 25 mph through Poland after that third glass. My friend and I stopped by tonight after work for some wine and dinner. We were promptly greeted by our server, Jason. He was so friendly and immediately gave us suggestions on wine. We both loved each of our wines. I got the Neapolitan Lasagna and Caeser salad. I was very pleased with the taste, portion, etc. It was so delicious! My friend ordered the Chicken Picatta and I was amazed at the taste of the sauce. We always receive such exemplary service and great food at Alberinis. (And Jason is definitely a keeper! Absolutely the worst service I have ever experienced. You wait 20 minutes for drink orders/ 20 minutes for salads/ and 30 for your entree, with no apologies. Now, for some reason I was thinking of this place and I was shocked that I did not write a review for a super place in this total Mafia town. So, this is not your typical establishment, It sits in a strange looking shopping center that you would find a K-Mart or something such as that. You go in and it is a mixture of wine store in front, long bar with colors out of Long Island such as light purple and pink, and a bunch of dining spaces. The service is awesome and with the right amount of attitude that comes with a joint such as this. The drinks are great and that is even before Michael comes around raving about this wine or that and his trips to Napa or France. He really knows his stuff, as I do but I say he wins. Now, Michael looks like he is into the mob for some whack of sometype but I really don't know. Maybe I am watch too many movies or have been around that world too much. Anyway, great guy who runs a great place. Now for the food. Truly good. As stated, the Veal Parm is the best in the City or for that matter within 300 miles of the place at least. The sausage and hot peppers are amazing as an app along with the calamari and other goodies. So, not that I am flying in to Youngstown anytime soon but every once in a while I think of real mob joints and how much I miss places such as this. read more

I can't say an opinion on whether you should go to Alberini's for dinner, but if you're thinking of booking this venue for a banquet, family gathering, wedding/baby shower or anything that needs a large party, I HIGHLY SUGGEST you look somewhere else. First, let me say my family has given Alberini's a chance for 3 Annual Family Gatherings. We tried multiple times to give them the benefit of the doubt, but the last event we had was the last straw. The first & second year we did a plated menu instead of buffet. The food was ok, but portions were small. What was deplorable was around 8:30 PM the bartender was leaving the bar to take people their credit cards and asking them to close their tab because he was done for the night. Everyone was still eating, talking, & drinking. IT WAS ONLY 8:30!! It was so rude, and my mother, who plans this event every year, was mortified. The bartender obviously had better things to do and you could tell he was given direction by management that once he was done working the party he could go home, so he tried to force us out. It was appalling. The icing on the cake was last Saturday when we had our annual Christmas party. This year we went with Buffet Style, which with tax & gratuity cost $33 a person (NOT WORTH IT!). Alberini's didn't even offer enough food. My mom gave a headcount of more people than we had and NO ONE COULD EVEN GET SECONDS! I would like to point out that my mom was guaranteed by the Event Coordinator that there would be plenty of food for people to have seconds, so this wasn't an unrealistic expectation. What's more horrific is we had two people who didn't even get 1 plate of food because they ran out! When my mom questioned the staff, their only response was, "that's all there is". My mom went to the manager who ended up bringing more chicken, but by the time they brought more food, no one wanted it. Moreover, the green beans and potatoes were clearly reheated from another party. It was disgusting. I will say the manager did remove the beverage service fee from our Bill (2.50 a person), which was nice, but this doesn't make up for the fact that people paid $33 for a buffet and they couldn't even get seconds while others didn't even get any food. Lastly, let me say that I was a server for many years. At one point, I even served at a Fine Dining Italian restaurant in Houston, which my husband's family owns. That being said, I'm very well aware on how to work parties, on how the restaurant industry operates, and how guests are to be treated. Alberini's actions and food presenation is unacceptable. We will never go back to Alberini's for an event. We gave them a fair chance, but they don't care and consistently screw up. We traveled to Canfield for a night away and after I booked the restaurant she wanted to cancel because of the bone in but said she was glad we came. I remember when this place was Scachetti's- a restaurant of which I was a BIG fan, so I figured I would give Michael Alberini's a try and was NOT disappointed. Mind you, this was over a year ago, so I don't know how quality it is now. Ambiance: The one beef I have is the wine racks/shop in the front. There used to be an absolutely beautiful mosaic fountain that would run during the spring/summer and be beautifully decorated during holidays (a Christmas tree was placed there during the holidays) and had really intricate tile work. However, I did enjoy the lighting and the table set up- it's a fantastic intimate place because the tables are far enough apart that you don't hear everyone else. Food: We had the bruschetta, which was quite good! The tomatoes were fresh and juicy and the mozzarella was super fresh. For dinner, I had the Veal Parmigiana which was very well cooked! The inside was just a little pink but the outside was crispy and the portions were HUGE. The meat itself was a very good cut of meat and made excellent sandwiches later. My boyfriend had the Chicken Carmelicious and loved it. The coating was very crispy and cooked all the way through and the sauce, garlic, ginger, etc. was very good. I was actually quite surprised at how well their sticky rice turned out quite well, too. Overall, it was a good dining experience, but it definitely wasn't a 4/5 star place. The food was good, the portions were GIGANTIC but it didn't make me say 'whoa'. The whole 'wine bar' at the front was quite odd as well. It has been a few years since we dined here, and the last time I said it was one of the best steaks I ever ate. Unfortunately I do not know what happened to this place, as not only was the food disappointing but so was the experience. I decided to take my wife here for her birthday, for a nice dinner, rather than some of the other restaurants we frequent due to prices. First we were seated in the bar area. I didn't mind this until I sat down at the table with a very low seating chair that had wheels, and on a tile floor. After ten minutes I got a nice ab workout to keep the chair seating straight, and if this was a trick to tire you out so you would leave quicker it sure worked. If that wasn't bad enough we were right next to a server station, and several times I had to bend out of the way as waitresses and serves actually reached over my head to get to items set behind me. I decided to get the $27 New York Strip steak, which came with a house salad and one side. The salad was only one type of lettuce, Arugula. I guess it was to make it look fancy, however, I would call the size more of a garnish and it had a very, very, light dressing that I had to really imagine was there. When I think of the finer restaurants, I always say get the steak cooked how you like it as they actually have cooks who know how to cook it. Well, I would like to tell you I should have expected this, especially here, however, my medium ordered steak was actually medium-rare to rare. I was completely amazed when I cut into it, and I will never send food back. Instead, I tried to enjoy it. I really did think this wouldn't matter until I took my first bite and tasted no seasoning, just a bland rare steak. So my question is why would I pay someone to cook my steak wrong and add no seasoning when I could have purchased my own steak at a grocery store and messed it up on my grill at home? I couldn't finish it, which I actually have to repeat in my head, I couldn't finish a steak. And not because of the size. Oh and I almost forgot. Our waitress brought out a nice looking steak knife. Unfortunately, the knife was dull. So dull I actually felt I was cutting my steak with a butter knife. And to finish it out, the one side was the small "baked potato balls". Ok, these were heavily salted and were just round French fries in a cup. CUP. I know what you are thinking. Was everything terrible? Do I just complain about everything? I thought about that before I wrote this. But, boy it has kept me up thinking about it. And before I wrote this, I again had to try my left over steak just to make sure it wasn't just me. It wasn't. Again, I think going and paying for your food to be cooked, for the price, is something you think a professional is doing that you would not experience at home. Well, I just learned my grill must be awesome. I'm not sure what had happened over the years, going from one of the best steaks I ever ate, to whatever that was. I will say, due to the prices and this experience I will probably never dine here again, especially when the Texas Roadhouse is just across the street. Which I now really want to eat at just to get the Alberini's steak taste out of my mouth. I hope you have a better experience if you choose to eat here. Came here for our anniversary. I got chicken Florentine which was out of this world. Homemade pasta, fresh veggies. My husband got a raw oysters from the ice bar that were extremely fresh and a veal special that was incredible. Our waiter Ryan made this already awesome experience over the top. He was so informative on any questions we had on the menu and went above and beyond to make our first time here incredible. I've been to this restaurant three times over the past two years,including my last visit two nights ago. I'm not in the area much, but when I am we make it a point to go here. Each time the experience for my group has been the same - polite, attentive but not overbearing service, delicious food, great wine and it all leads to a terrific evening. I'm generally a health-conscious eater so I tend to avoid heavy pasta dishes with cream sauce and favor lighter entrees like grilled chicken or fish. Each meal I've had has been outstanding. The appetizers are creative, taste wonderful and are well presented. Each time, Michael (the owner) has made a point to come to our table and talk with us. I feel he's engaged with his customers and that is appreciated. Other reviewers have been critical of the wine store in the front of the restaurant. My take has been that if you enjoyed the wine with your dinner, you can buy a bottle on the way out. You do not need to purchase wine from the shop to drink with dinner. The servers guide you and bring you the bottle and serve you. Overall, I recommend this restaurant and look forward to going back again. read more

Came here on a Sunday night after our first pick restaurant was closing because of a water main break. We were quick to get a table and our server was quick, cordial, and always made sure we had drinks and bread. I ordered the Aspen Medallions, medium rare, with Yukon mashed potatoes and a Caesar salad. The salad was good, it's hard to mess up a Caesar salad though. The medallions were cooked a little too rare to my liking, but most restaurants either make medium rare too medium or too rare for me. The atmosphere was great, it was clean, music was good for the decor, the only gripe I had with the atmosphere were the blue electric light candles that hurt everyone in my parties eyes. What a pleasant surprise! I didn't expect much as I parked in the strip mall parking lot, but as soon as I walked in I forgot I was in suburbia. Lovely, eclectic atmosphere and a great soundtrack! The service was a little slow, but better than other Youngstown area establishments. I enjoyed the mahi and loved the wine selection! The price was very reasonable for a delicious meal and two glasses of top notch California reds. Best of all, I bought two bottles of the wine I enjoyed most for $13/bottle on my way out. Michael Alberini's is my go-to spot to celebrate an occasion. It's the perfect casual mood-upscale feel restaurant for celebrating birthdays and anniversaries, as well as holidays like mother's day and father's day. That being said, my boyfriend and I never need an excuse to stop in for dinner any night of the week! We tend to order from the daily specials but you can't go wrong with the regular menu. In fact, one of the best meals I've ever had there was the Fire Grilled Mahi. Our two most recent visits, we have sat in a booth on the bar side and have received EXCELLENT service from the same waiter each time (unfortunately I can't remember his name). He is apparently a sommelier, which is a person that is a trained wine professional specializing in wine service including wine & food pairings, and he was able to make excellent recommendations of wine from their vast selection that would both meet our preferred taste and pair well with the meals we had chosen. If I haven't shown enough praise already, perhaps my favorite part of dining here is their rotating creme brûlée flavors. Every couple of weeks or so, they offer a different flavor of the dessert ranging from original to orange cream, chocolate, hazelnut, and more. First trip on 11/22 was fantastic. The Frutti de Mare was as good as it could be. Loaded with Shrimp, Sea Scallops, mussels and clams left excited to return! Two weeks later about the same time on Sunday 4pm order the same and got the same dish served cold with lots of mussels and clams and only two each shrimp and very small scallops. Wife,s park chop was excellent as was the cousins Gnocchi Bolognese. This time II left not so eager to return. My wife and I have frequented this restaurant for special occasions, birthdays, anniversaries, and we even had our rehearsal dinner here. Until the past 2 years everything had been great but it has gone significantly downhill. Our last two experiences were near mirror images. The food was good both times but the service was horrendous. Two trips ago: Had a 6:30 reservation and was not seated until 7:00. After being seated, it was a 20 minute wait for drinks, 20 minutes more for an appetizer, and another 20 minutes for salad. We were over an hour in without entree's. The food finally arrived almost an hour and a half after being seated, the food was all good. After finishing the main course, my wife ordered dessert and this is where it really fell off. Our server completely disappeared! Did not return with dessert and we even had to flag someone else down for more drinks. Finally we asked for the manager after being ghosted for 40 minutes who offered to comp the dessert. We were so ready to leave that we asked for it to be boxed up and for the check. That also took nearly 20 minutes. If I was a worse person I'm pretty sure we could have dashed an no one would have noticed. Tonight: Almost 4 months since the last visit we arrive without a reservation and have a 30-40 minute wait which was completely understandable. After being seated it took approximately 15 minutes to get drinks and another 10 minutes until our order was taken. Our appetizer was delivered by someone else about 15 minutes later. Again someone else besides our server cleared the plate when the app was gone. We had yet another 10-15 minute wait for salads which were delivered by the server. Then another 10 minutes for the entrees to arrive, so again over an hour wait for the main course. When the main course arrived the server near threw the plates at us. WOW! Then we were completely ghosted again, not a single check in and no refilled drinks. Someone again cleared the table when plates were empty. My wife was again planning on ordering dessert but as the time stretched on I was able to talk her out of it. 15 minutes go by without seeing our server and then someone else delivered our check. As we had been there an extended amount of time, we asked if this new person could run our card for payment as we didn't want to wait for or inconvenience our server to get around to us. The person ran our card and miraculously as I am leaving a comment on the bill our server arrives and hovers over me was I write. I wasn't planning on tipping at all due to the terrible experience but I ultimately did. We did not ask to speak with a manager this go around but we decided that not a single cent more will go to this restaurant which is really sad as it has been a staple for special occasions for near a decade. I can't recommend this place anymore and feel terrible about recommendations I have made in the past if any family/friends had this type of experience. read more
