If you're in Reno or the surrounding area DON'T take your car to the local dealer. Go to Carson City and go to Michael Hohl Honda. They are the exact opposite of the Bill Pearce team. Not only did they get me in but they went way over the top to fix my car. When they didn't have the part (I drove 80 miles to get here) they ordered it for the next day and reimbursed my gas and time with free services. Hohl service understand that they are in a "Customer Service" industry and understand what that means. Recently went in to purchase a vehicle and the sales guy seemed very nice at first. I went from one sales guys to another and finally ended up with a guy who was useless. He said leave me your info and I will get the best offer and rate. I didn't have time to stay for the process so I trusted he would call me back. They ran my credit 5 times and never heard back from them again! I called to speak with the manager and front desk girl said she wasn't available and what was it that I needed. I explained to her they keep running my credit and it's going to affect it. She just laughed! I asked her if she thought it was funny and she said no what is a good number to call you at very rudely! This was honestly THE worst experience I've ever had at a car dealership. I won a free oil change and detail from Lake Tahoe Television and I made an appointment to take my car down the hill from South Lake Tahoe to get it done. The girl I spoke with to schedule my appointment was super nice. She said to bring my car in early since details can take a couple hours and she didn't want my car to get stuck there all day. I told her I was coming from Tahoe and she said they could give me a loaner car so I wasn't stuck waiting. I made my appointment for 8am and showed up around 7:45am. I walked in to the service area and there were two service writers there who COMPLETELY ignored me even though NO ONE ELSE was in line. Finally one of them greeted me and I sat down and gave him my coupon for free oil change and detail. He went out and looked at my car to see how long the detail was going to take. I am a clean freak and my car is not dirty AT ALL. But he made a disgusted face and said "Oh gosh, this is going to take all day" implying that my car was filthy. I told him I was not from here and had nowhere to go while I waited. I told him I needed to go to Walmart and he said I could walk there. Never offered me a loaner car or anything. I get it, beggers can't be choosers. I won something for free so I shouldn't expect much. But man, I have never felt so ignored and disrespected. I even came back with a $20 tip for whoever cleaned out my car since the detailing was free. Then I get home and my car has only been washed on the outside (with half effort since it was still filthy on the roof) and the inside had only been vacuumed, not dusted or anything. They didn't even vacuum out the trunk of my car. Again, my car is not dirty, but they made no effort to clean it well. I will never go back here and even though my husband is in the market for a new (to us) car, I will never spend a dime at this place. read more

I went there to buy a car, what a mistake! The original salesman, and his manager that helped me were wonderful. The problem came, when they brought in a finance manager. He was brash, and very unwilling to help. He saw someone who's credit was bad, and did everything he could to take advantage of it. I knew my credit was bad. I knew my exact score, before I went in. I knew what interest rate a bank would give me, before I went in. He hid a extra $5,000 dollars on to the sale price of the vehicle , and a 25% rate, all without being upfront and honest about it. The he abrubtly told me I also had to come up with a $5,000 down payment. Me a full time student, come up with $5,000 dollars. When I questioned his numbers, he abruptly left, and told me to come back when I was ready. I'm struggling to make ends meet, and I get treated like a second hand citizen. I may have been born yesterday, but not last night! I knew my credit was bad. I do not need to be taken advantage off, because of it. Later the Bank crunched the numbers the finance manager gave me. They told me he added $5,000 to the sale price, along with 25% rate. And they were still demanding $5,000 down. They never showed me the actual price of vehicle, nor the actuall interest rate. All he showed me was the required $5,000 down, and the " best they could do" monthly payment. That is how the trap you! They withhold all the numbers. The last thing people need in this economy, is to be taken advantage of. I'll never go back there again. That is among the worst experiences I've ever had at a auto dealership. read more

Was highly disappointed, when driving from out of town, we needed assistance in looking at our car briefly to make sure a squeaking noise was not a huge problem. We had a great experience with our initial sales person and the financial guru, but follow-up contact with sales failed. Our sales rep promised that the vehicle we were purchasing, with a substantial down payment, would be in no later than June 25, possibly before, and that he would be the one to arrange prep and delivery to us. The entire week went by without hearing, and on the 25th I left multiple voice mail messages for the sales department which were never returned, but I did get a text reply from someone which went absolutely nowhere. Plus I was told that my sales rep was on vacation -the entire week no less, when my vehicle had been promised to me. I finally left voicemail message for the financial guru, who returned my call and informed me that my new car was in fact at the dealership - though I had never been contacted by anyone else, especially the sales department, mu=y salesman or the manager with whom we had met on the sale, and despite promise to call me and that my initial salesman would see it delivered to me. When we went to pick it up, a different salesman was on hand to assist us, much to my chagrin. The day after taking delivery of the vehicle, I had a follow-up question, so called the dealership and could only once again leave a voicemail message for the sales department - and as previously, they failed to call me back. Yesterday, my parents Mr. & Mrs. Lowery went up to Carson City to look for a new car, after ours was recently totaled in an accident. When they arrived at Michael Hohl, they were graciously greeted by Jenn Olney. After visiting multiple dealerships, they said that it was very refreshing to be helped by Jenn. They felt comfortable and felt that she listened to them and their needs. My parents went in unsure about what they were looking for & were more concerned with staying in a certain price range. Jenn listened to this and was able to work with them and make sure she could find them the perfect car. She gave them several options to look through, and eventually they settled on a car with her patience and help. My parents and I are grateful for Jenn and her kind and patience self. It seemed as though she really cared about her customers, as they told me she was the busiest person in the dealership. Overall, my parents had the best experience at this dealership & with Jenn specifically, and will certainly be coming back and contacting her with any further questions they may have. read more

This is a place to exercise great caution. They are not ethical in their dealings, in my experience. The vehicles are fine. The sales team are not to be trusted, nor is the management. If they promise you something, don't hand over any money until you have the promise in hand. And be sure you never fall for their "extended warranty", which promises the return of your money after 5 years if no claims are made. I think you'd be wise to go to Fallon or Reno--or anywhere that doesn't have the name Michael Hohl. Remember the reputation of car dealers--and this is certainly one of them!! read more

We got a Honda CRV 2011 AWD EX 4 cylinder in a beautiful light green color. It's my mom's dream car. Great service from Billy and Willy and their sales boss (forgot his name). We went to every dealership in Reno. Bad experiences there. They did the unbelievable sales trick of asking if we would buy if they gave us a good deal. 2 out of the 9 dealerships we went to before them asked if we wanted to test drive the car. WTF. Billy and Willy both need some more training in HONDA vehicles. A good trick is for them to go on Consumerreports.com and watch the videos, they tell you awesome stuff about the cars that they had no idea. They told me to read the manual. Like i'm really going to do that. 1 tip. Offer your buyer some bottled water in 90+ degree weather. read more

Beware of Zurich Shield Rip Off Recently I bought a car from Michael Hohl Honda in Carson City. The salesman tried to sell me a 7-year Zurich Shield policy that covers paint, fabric, vinyl and leather damage. I told him I wasn't interested. My salesman said a one-year policy was included. What he did not tell was that it was $229 and I was forced to buy it. Finally I ended up with the finance guy who is really a hard-sell insurance and extended warranty salesman. I told him no to extended warranties and add-ons he was trying to sell. He said he had to go through all of my options. He started with the full rip off price of the extended warranty, then reduced the price after I had to say no to all his pitches at least 7-8 times. Then he came up with a second reduction, but said he would have to check with his manager to see if he could offer me a price this low. One option he did not have to sell was the one-year Zurich Shield policy. It was on my contract for an additional $229. I told him I didn't want it. He said it was mandatory like the sales tax and registration fees I had agreed to pay on top of the sales price. I was confused as how could a paint and vinyl protection policy be required like licenses and fees, but I was tired and at the end of a three hour marathon sales process so I signed. A week or so after buying the car I finally got around to looking at my paperwork. The Zurich Shield paperwork clearly states, "THE PURCHASE OF THIS PRODUCT IS NOT REQUIRED AS A CONDITION TO OBTAIN FINANCING OR TO PURCHASE OR LEASE YOUR VEHICLE." I called Honda in Reno and they said they don't even offer a fabric protection policy as their customers have not shown an interest. I completely understand. I am giving them two starts instead of one because I like my car. read more

Will Gwaltney the finance manager was horrible. I have NEVER been treated with such disrespect or felt humiliated walking into a dealership to purchase a $30,000 car in my life. His comments were out of this world disrespectful. He even had the nerve to ask me how much money I had in my savings account. First of all that's none of your business. I was recently in a car accident that totaled my car so I was there to purchase another vehicle, which I ended up doing, but I will never again purchase a vehicle from this company nor will I ever refer somebody to purchase from this company. I had also taken my mother with me to shop around and help me make the best choice, and all he kept saying to me was "oh u need mama bear with you, grrrr!" highly unprofessional. Upon walking into this dealership I wasn't even greeted. I feel like they don't want business there at all, you did not care about my concerns, you made it very clear you only cared about how much money you were going to make off me. Then when trying to negotiate with monthly payment, price and warranties to see what my best choice was, he slammed down paperwork all pissed off and said "you know what, I can just take you out of this deal, we're not making money off of you anyways." He then proceeded to walk away mouthing stuff under his breath. I'm sorry but when a customer comes in to buy a car and you act like that it makes me, the customer feel very uncomfortable. I am pleased with the vehicle I purchased although very high pricing. I am NOT pleased with the customer service there whatsoever. By the way you never gave me the IOU for the detail you guys failed to perform on the vehicle you sold me! and really should get facts straight when it comes to warranty information. you can't just throw paperwork out and say sign here, sign there, when I had no explanation as to what I was signing for. Good thing I'm a smart female when it comes to dealership shenanigans. Please fix your customer service. My family and I were needing an upgraded vehicle!! Let me start by saying this is a respectable dealership and I feel so blessed to have been able to do business here. I called the dealership in the morning confirming they had a certain car available still for purchase, and from then on they were more than pleasant and accommodating. Collin Shelton took very good care of us and was so friendly and professional!! He had the car waiting for us to test drive as soon as we got there. He made the whole process very painless and quick. I say that because sometimes buys a car/trading in a car can sometimes be so stressful, and this was the opposite. We got there at 5:30 and by 8:30 we successfully traded in our car for gorgeous Odyssey. The dealership closed at 7 and he stayed late to help us make this happen and made us feel super comfortable. Because we got out after they closed, he invited us back in the morning to get the car detailed and gas tank topped off. We were able to bring our four girls when they detailed the car and they made sure we were all comfortable while waiting. It was very apparent Collin is a family man and made us feel relatable. All of the things he did and the way he treated us was above and beyond good customer service. It's very hard to find these qualities in a car dealership, but we found it!!! We need brought ours work truck into Michael Hohl in fall of 2017 for a service and to check a potential coolant leak we had noticed. We told Ronnie Roberts about the burning coolant smell and the fact we were replacing coolant more often than we should have been. When the vehicle was done they reported NO LEAKS. We were confused but trusted that they checked everything and we winterized the truck (summer seasonal). We started off summer 2018 and sure enough the truck was running low on coolant again. We took it back in to Ronnie and low and behold the radiator was leaking. The truck is now out of warranty and we had to pay a pretty penny for it to get fixed. Nothing against Ronny, he's a great guy, but it goes to show that you ALWAYS have to check a mechanics work, even if you consider them professionals. Not sure if we'll go back or just do the work ourselves from now on. We can hold ourselves accountable for the work we do. read more

What a Waste of Time ! I drove 2 1/2 hrs to buy a car from this dealership . Prior to doing so I had come to an agreement on price . The day prior to driving to their location I spoke with Interent Mgr Fernanda Arcadia , I asked her to send me a few photos of the vehicle as I'm a meticulous person and didn't want to make such a long drive unless vehicle was free of cosmetic issues and the had good tires . Surprisingly I never got my request and to give benefit of doubt that the vehicle was in the " Excellent Condition " as my wife was previous texted we made the long drive up . Nothing but Disappointment when we arrived , vehicle was far from excellent condition as I can see why my request for information was never forthcoming . Fernanda obviously did not take our request seriously nor did she have any consideration for our time . The worst part about all of this is I've been in the retail automotive business over 25 yrs and currently manage a New Car dealership franchise . Scammy sales people. When buying a new car the sales person told me I had to get the security etching in my window, and that that $200 it would cost me was "...for Michael Hohl's personal money." Don't let them force you into thinking you need to pay for the waste of money window etching or the extended warranty, if you don't want them. When test driving the car, the sales person floored it out of the parking lot... we were there looking for a car for my wife to drive to work and for kids in the back seats... why would we be impressed with this action? Ugh. This place totally lives up to the horrible reputation that dealerships have. I've got a Honda Civic Hybrid. They way over-charge. WAY. I spent $850 for nothing and still have to pay the local guy (awesome by the way) to take care of the real problem. My car actually ran WORSE after I took it there. I've used them a few time because I've got the Hybrid and our local places can't diagnose the electrical problems. I just feel like they don't care if you car is really working well or not. They are in for the bucks and to get you on your way. Big bummer. I'll only go back if I have no other choice. Had been looking for a particular used car for the last several weeks and Michael Hohl Honda had the model I wanted. I emailed the dealership and went back and forth with negotiations. I ended up getting the car at the price I offered and when arriving had a great experience with the internet sales person Fernanda and the in-store salesperson Don Reader. They were both attentive and answered all my questions. The contract was written up and there were no surprises, one of the best car buying experiences I have ever had. If someone I know needs a new Honda or a used car of any sort I would reccomend driving to Carson where this dealership is family owned and a pleasure to do business with. I'm sure this is a very reputable car dealer. The only business I have had with them is when I bought a Baja in 2005. The dealer here in Ca. did not have what I wanted but if I would be patient they would get it. So I was patient. One day I got an email with a pic of a beautiful black Baja. A note said I could come and pick it up in about a week because some of the extras i had ordered had to be installed??? Went to get my car and discovered that it came from this dealership in Carson City. That was cool cuz it was only 136 miles cross country to the dealer I bought it from. When I got in and started it up I discovered that there were over 600 miles on it. I guess the person they hired to drive it from Nv. to Ca. decided to take a detour. Contacted the origional dealer and they stated that they didn't know anything about it. Discovered later that it was a relative who decided to do a little sight seeing. I could tell that the car had been driven hard. It was a 2.5L Turbo. A few months later the turbo blew. I wonder why. I no longer have that car. read more

ZERO STARS, ZERO STARS, ZERO STARS, ZERO STARS, ZERO STARS. BUYER BEWARE! I have dealt with this dealership for the last time. Once in 2006, another time in 2012 and again today. First of all, I go thru the Costco program and the Costco rep from the dealership never called me, someone else did. The Dealership has a banner on their own website (that they put there) that states 0% financing on Honda Odysseys for well qualified buyers. With a credit score over 800+ I would think I am a well qualified buyer. So, I get there and they try this; "Well, now you owe us $200+ for some so-called protective paint coating which may or may not have been on the car and I did not want and by the way, that 0% really means 0.9%". Huh? They don't know math?. Then there is the rip-off doc fees which they set at whatever they want. I walked out and called Costco and turned them in. I called the D.A. and turned them in for false advertisement. I called Honda Financial about their practices and also called the Honda main office at 1-800-999-1009, which I advise you to do too. I received confirmation numbers on all of my cases. These people are pure slime from the salespeople down to the service department. I would never use their service department as ONCE they changed my oil and didn't tighten the pan bolt and obviously I had a leak. I took it back and they said I had to replace the main seal for $800. Yeah, right. Not gonna happen. I would recommend that if you want a Honda because they are good cars, to not buy from this place. There are plenty of others to choose from even if you have to drive a little bit further to get there. Just remember, I TOLD YOU SO! read more

Please stay away from this dealership. The customer service is awful, and they will try and rip you off. For instance, they freaked me out telling me I needed new tires right away saying my tires were at 3/32 and wanted to schedule me to replace them soon. Later that day, I went to get them rotated elsewhere at Discount Tires and they told me my tires were perfectly fine and had at least another 10,000 miles. Tires Plus also confirmed this for me. I left customer feedback, and management has yet to call me back. Never again. read more

Purchased extended warranty here and they said if I didn't use it they would refund me the money for it. Then went back there to get the refund as I didn't need it and they said that I was out of range for the refund and had to do it within 1000 miles of a certain mileage. I said they didn't tell me that when I got it and they said they would put an inquiry into it and get back to me. They never got back to me. Who would even remember to do this within $1000 miles anyways if they had even told me. Nobody. Don't get extended warranty. read more

Recently purchased a used Chevy Tahoe from Michael Hohl Honda, which is actually the second car someone in my family has purchased from the dealership. I really appreciate the attitude of the sales people there. They don't work on commission; therefore, they're not so pushy to make a sale. The finance office worked hard to find a lender to offer a loan with monthly payments in my price range. Small issues that popped up after I signed on the dotted line were taken care of in a timely manner by the dealership. My phone calls and emails were answered within one business day, if not within a few hours of me sending the email or leaving a message. Customer service and satisfaction seems to be a high priority of all the staff here. read more

Initial calls and emails were always prompt, but there was never any follow up - let alone response to my questions as to their lack of follow up. Additionally, the dealer we did purchase from stated Hohl had provided us a rather significant amount of disinformation. If you live in Reno, I'm sorry as your options are limited. I DO NOT recommend buying a car here. Bought my car there in May. They attempted to rip me off every way possible and were rude to me the entire time. I had to go back three times to change the paperwork because they kept adding fees I did not agree to. Now, after it's alleged clean bill of health and multi-point inspection (it's all in the paperwork), it needs a five hundred dollar repair for something that's been broken for ages. We went in hoping to get any information about the Honda Civic and flat out told them we weren't able to buy at that moment in time and then they continued to bring us inside and fill out paperwork and again we told them we weren't ready to buy and once they finally got the concept we assumed the sales manager came over and accused us of wasting their time and was very rude with an attitude. They looked down on us like we were little kids because we weren't ready to buy now this experience has driven me away from Honda completely and I will make sure everyone I know knows about this because dealing with that Honda was absolutely rediculous. Because if this is how you treat your customers we have no desire to be apart of it. And we were apparently the ones at fault.
