I purchased a used Toyota Sienna from Rob Swartz at Michael Hohl Subaru. My experience with Rob was excellent. He was considerate and sincerely interested in my checking the car out thoroughly. The test drive was relatively long, allowing me to review the vehicle for adequate power for local mountain driving. Together we completed a detailed inspection of the vehicle. The car had been detailed beautifully by their shop, beyond the usual wax and armor-all. No dents, no paint chips. Very clean interior, although there was a hint of cedar, perhaps from some carpet or upholstery cleaning solution. It was the grandpa car smell, not the new car smell. The car was priced very high due the unusual very good condition and incredibly low mileage for its' age. It was a 2001 with about 58k miles. Rob's Sales Manager was approachable and flexible. We quickly came to a fair price. My time spent at the dealership was reasonable relative to our business at hand and not a waste of time. Overall my experience was very good. In general, car people are good people and I enjoy getting to know them and finding what they know about their inventory. They provide a lot of insight with details often unknown to the general public about their lines. For instance, Rob and I discussed the gas mileage buyers were receiving on their new Forester 2014 models and the fact that 35mpg was typical for good drivers on road trips. That is awesome for an SUV and I'm considering that car in the future. We also talked about the Subaru Crosstrek and together acknowledged that I just wouldn't be comfortable with my 6'2" frame in that vehicle. All in all, it was a good purchase with no buyer anguish. I enjoyed the staff and I'm not no fan boy. I know none of their employees personally, excepting Tim Holhl, who I believe is at one of their other dealerships. Bottom line is that I'll return for another honest deal and sane car talk. I've read the reviews on Yelp and it appears that they are working on the customer engagement. It worked with me. Oh, one financial item has been bothering me. The documentation fee was $399 and typically it's not negotiable, of course I asked to reduce it. I believe a fee of $299 is more typical and saw a Carson Hyundai financial statement with a fee of $299 just recently. That vehicle was new. Just an FYI regarding the finance process. Be prepared. I was only pitched one add-on and a "no" was accepted without any grinding. On to their service, my first oil change is free with the used car purchase. I'll report how it goes... . read more

If I could give 'no stars', I would. We tried to purchase a Subaru from this dealership but they would not respect our budget. We bought from Lithia Subaru in Reno and had a great experience. Since we live in Carson City, we took the vehicle to Michael Hohl for servicing. The car was sold in October of 2013. I have been trying since then to get these people to stop contacting me. I have called, emailed, written, all to no avail. The staff is obtuse and unresponsive to my pleas for help. They have taken 'marketing' to a new level....bordering on harrassment. I will warn everyone of my current and future acquaintance to avoid this dealership. Please stay away! You'll be getting mail and calls even after you're dead! read more

I've had a horrible experience with needing recall work many years ago thru Michael Hohl Chevrolet, so I was kinda worried when it came time to take care of my new-to-me Subaru's recalls. What a difference in the quality of service! I never got an eye roll or any sort of attitude when I mentioned needing recall work from any of the employees, in fact everyone was happy to help. Chris helped me out with scheduling the appointment and most everything else, and he was such a great person to work with. When it came time to inquire about a loaner vehicle while my car was in the shop, they were happy to help and provided me a car hassle-free. The work on my car was done quickly and my car was well taken care of while in their hands. I've been to several dealerships where they just give you the run around and treat you like dirt, its not at all like that here. I highly recommend this dealership's service department! A month ago, i was in a rollover car accident in my 2000 subaru outback and it kept me very safe. Just got a new 2015 Subaru Impreza from this dealership. I was surprised by all the negative reviews as our experience was painless. I knew our budget and had done the research to know what I should be paying for an extended warranty, interest rate I qualified for, and service plan. After test driving three cars with my daughter we decided on this Impreza Premium. Our internet sales guy "Rob" was awesome. He came back with a quote that honestly was BELOW what I had expected to pay for this model thinking we would drop to the base model. I got quotes from other internet dealers for the same car that came in $1500 to $3000 more than what I paid! I highly recommend Michael Hohl. Ask for Rob and Do your homework first! read more

I've lived in So. Lake Tahoe for over 30 years and had my last Subaru for over 18 years. My 1997 Subaru was the most reliable, gas efficient, low maintenance, and "excellent in the snow" car I ever had! However, it was time for a new car. I did my research and looked for the best deals and found that Michael Hohl had the best selection and best prices around! I also know that they are familiar with California DMV requirements. I was pleased that their sales person did not pressure me and I was able to "just look around" and test drive the car I was interested in. There was just a little issue with the vehicle I purchased, nevertheless, the sales manager graciously corrected the problem! I highly recommend Michael Hohl Subaru! Many times I've experienced better. I took in my Subaru outback, because my air conditioning has not worked for a few years. I first took it to a shop in Santa Cruz, CA. where I lived for 10 years. They spent several hours on the vehicle and could not find any leak in the A/C. So they put in some fluorescent dye into the A/C along with the refrigerant. As the refrigerant leaks out, presumably it will leave the dye which can be detected under a black light, providing for easy detection of the location of the leak. Unfortunately, I got laid off and could not take the car back in the two weeks they suggested. The refrigerant lasted for several days after they had recharged the system and after that, there was no cooling. 1. Then after moving to Carson City, I took my Subaru to Michael Hohl to have it fixed. They called me in an hour and told me the O-rings, which seal the compressor to the system needed to be replaced. Wow, that's great they already found and can fix the leak today, Sept. 19, 2017. I picked up the car and there was definitely cold, cold air coming from the A/C, eee haw! 2. By Sept. 22, when I went out to use the car again....there was no more cold air, and I returned the car to Michael Hohl, and lodged my complaint with the service writer who wrote my order from the 19th. OK, they will "look" at it again. This was on October 5. 3. Again, in another hour or so, they called and said....Oh, we found that a hose had sprung a leak. This occurred because (according to the service writer), when the new O-rings that were installed on the compressor caused the system pressure to be sooo high, THAT caused a leak in the high pressure hose. So the hose replaced, on this next visit. I paid and was on my way....happy. Until 3 days later, when it didn't cool again. Now what? 4. The over pressure explanation was just B.S............ it's a crock that the car dealer service department has come up with, that nobody can prove one way or another; including the service department! The correct way to do this would have been to reinstitute the dye test which would show exactly if the leaks were in the O-rings or the hose, or somewhere else. Then one would not have to settle for "seat of the pants" guesses about the issues around this repair. There are also "sniffers" that can "smell" leaks while the system is pressurized. If one of these two tests had been done, and could be demonstrated I could believe it. AND what's worse, is that I suggested they do the tests when I initially brought in the vehicle. But, was I had the writer explain to me that they have their own "way" of doing things. OK, I thought, the proof is in the pudding. The service writer told me these tests had NOT been done. : ( 5. I will not take my vehicle back to Hohl, they just have not demonstrated that they can be trusted . I've paid $266 once and $317 the second time, which is difficult to do when living on Social Security. They will not get another contribution from me for doing NOTHING. I bought my 3rd subaru but it was my first time buying here. My salesman Rob Schwarz was very knowledgeable on the outbacks and didn't give us the impression of being pushy. He was patient with us when we asked him a lot of questions. I'm going in next week for them to put in a tow hitch so we'll see how the service dept impresses me. The manager Brian was also very nice to us. People you need to do your homework BEFORE you go in to buy a car. Email a few dealers tell them what you want and then ask them what kind of a deal they can give you. Then show the other dealers what this dealer gave you and ask them if they can do better. Let the dealers do all the haggling for you then you decide which one gives you the better price. It's better to have the dealers duke it out then yourself. It's so much less stressful. I got a better deal here than my credit union and that other place in Reno. Anyway I gave them 4 stars cuz I got tired of signing all kinds of paperwork. But the financial person NIck(?) his personality made it somewhat less painful. read more

We bought a 2013 Subaru from Michael Hohl in December 2012. The sales process was OK. We have since had to call Subaru Roadside three times for a jump start. The service person, Angie, takes care of all the maintenance as it's needed quickly and easily. I loved the look of the Crosstrek and went by last week. Bryan Worch, the sales manager, took care of me from the moment I walked in. I was happy with the trade-in value they gave me as well as the price we agreed with on the new Crosstrek. I had planned on coming back and finding out if they found one for me as they didn't have the one I wanted on the lot. Bryan made a few calls and the car was there ready and waiting the next day. Shout out to Celso Marquez, Service Advisor for Michael Hohl Subaru. I have owned more than a dozen vehicles from 8 different dealerships in my life. More than half of the time, I would have said that I was satisfied with the service and maintenance they had provided. However, none of them has compared to the service, courtesy and accommodations that Celso has shown to us. Celso is great about making appointments when convenient for me and having the car ready as promised, which is appreciated. But much more than that, he has gone beyond the usual warrantee and maintenance provisions to ensure that we were delivered replacement parts and corrective repairs. And it's not as if there have been many repairs--but he has noticed a few little things that I would not have, like camera brackets, and had them repaired. The ultimate accommodation was when he first tried to repair and then replaced a damaged tire, and did not charge us for it. Several months ago, we purchased our Legacy because Consumer Reports rated it's ride, handling and overall performance on par with many luxury cars. We were quite happy with Dom and the sales team. Now, experiencing the service in the maintenance department with Celso at the helm, we are elated to be Subaru owners. Thank you, Subaru, for your excellent product and for having employees like Celso who make our car ownership experience so much better! (And by the way, the car has met or exceeded every expectation that we read about in Consumer Reports.) read more

Very BAD experience. Was told by 2 different car salesmen that the vehicle I wanted to see was sold while at the same time the lady my wife was talking to thru the internet service was saying it was on the lot. We found a similar car on the lot and looked it up online while we waited. The salesman stated it was a 20k car and way out of our price range, I had to convince the salesman to look it up and again we were correct on the price and location of the car, but the salesman could not find the keys. We asked to run some numbers to make sure we were in the correct price range and the salesman proceeded to rattle off numbers that made absolutely no sense mathematically and were completely inaccurate. After 2.5 hours and not seeing a car I requested, I ran out of time and scheduled to return the next day to give them another chance. On the way off the lot my wife noticed the silver car we had originally sought out, it was on the lot and had not been sold. The next morning, I called an hour before arriving and gave the salesman 3 vehicles I wanted to test drive along with the stock number. When I arrived the salesman began the key hunt all over again, and did not have the vehicles available. I was then pawned off to another salesman (number 3) due to a lady showing up that had an appointment the next day but had arrived early, apparently my appointment that morning was trumped by a future appointments early arrival. So I walked next door to Honda a quick informative test drive and 2 hours later walked out an owner of one of the vehicles I wanted to see. This could have been accomplished on the first morning but all the dealership salesmen were good for was making excuses for reasons they can not sell a vehicle from another lot under the same name and trying to find keys for cars they didn't want to show. I will not return or recommend this dealership to anyone. I will return and recommend the Honda dealership next door that just so happens to belong to the same owner. read more

PLEASE DO NOT GO HERE! We went to get our New Subaru serviced here and were told we had to have our transmission fluid flushed. That was a lie. Also other recommended repairs would cost around $2000. We took our car down the street to M&B Enterprises in Gardnerville Nv and they did the repairs for $100 and assured us the new car did not need it's transmission fluid flushed. Michael Hohl likes to take advantage of its customers. We will never step foot on that property again. read more

Have had problems with getting warranty/recall work done. Service department has been extremely inefficient in having the necessary parts needed for repairing my car ALL THERE AT THE TIME OF THE SCHEDULED REPAIR. They are very apologetic about the inefficiency and their inability to have all the parts needed at the time of the scheduled repair. That apology sounded soooooo practiced that I have to believe that this is not an isolated incident. Fix your system. Why would you do that to your customers and the employees who have to deal with the customer who has made time to have the work done only to be told that they will have to come back later for additional work because the part was used on a different job. UNBELIEVABLE! This was after the dealership called to cancel the first appointment that was made because of the same problem, lack of part due to it being used elsewhere. Second appointment was made with the total reassurance that ALL PARTS would be available. BE FOREWARNED. read more

Shame on Hohl Suburu for getting two young peoples hopes up for a better future by telling them they have the car and then a week later it has to be returned because they couldn't secure financing. Didn't they know they didn't have secure financing before they drove the car off the lot? The answer from Hohl was this is standard business practice and 99% of the time it is not a problem. REPORTING TO THE BETTER BUSINESS BUREAU TODAY AND WHATEVER OTHER STATE AGENCIES THAT WILL LISTEN TO THIS YET ANOTHER RIP OFF STORY. wow, what was I thinking when I went back to Subaru to show a friend the Subaru Outbacks. We like them all but the price was to high. As we were leaving we told the salesman we were open to other vehicles if they had any to show. He stopped and showed us a 2012 Honda CRV. He wasn't certified to sell a Honda so he had to turn the sale over to someone who was. The salesman, who I can't remember his name but he use to own the "sporting rage" in Carson answered all of our questions regarding the vehicle. My friend really liked it but it was for his company so he wanted to get the proper paperwork to bring back to make the purchase. We talked it over and the price the first salesman told us was $22k and we asked when he told us that price - why are used Subaru Outbacks that are the same year selling so much higher than a 2012 Honda CRV. To make this story short, when we called and said we were coming back in to make a deal, everyone was very excited. Ten minutes later we get a call that OOPSEY WE TOLD YOU THE WRONG PRICE, ITS REALLY $29K. Excuse me???? Then I go look on www.autotrader.com and the same vehicle is listed for $27,700. EXCUSE ME?? really. Is that legal to spend three hours with us describing the car, test driving, answering all our questions and then JACK THE PRICE UP FROM $22K TO $29k. SO SO UNPROFESSIONAL AND I BET ILLEGAL TOO. SHAME ON YOU MICHAEL HOHL SUBARU, YOU should be embarrassed for making abusing people like that. Do you know how much of a big deal it is to spend $22k Wow. So amazed that you think that this is okay. read more

My wife and I were in need of an inexpensive truck to fulfill a niche in our lifestyle. This vehicle would be a third vehicle and not be something driven everyday but only when we needed to haul our bikes and kayaks, and make our Costco runs. I had been looking around and noticed a 2006 Honda Ridgeline that would meet our needs and likewise would not break the bank. I had previously looked at a Honda Ridgeline, liked what it had to offer, and my wife and I decided to go look at this one on 7/17/2012. On that night they tried to pressure us into a purchase, but they kindly agreed to let us take the vehicle home for the night. On 7/18/2012, prior to going to the dealership, we had done some additional research and knew the Kelley Blue Book price for the vehicle so we could come in prepared, and likewise had the vehicle inspected to ensure nothing was wrong with it. When we arrived, as is the norm, we haggled back and forth for quite some time regarding the price, but we finally agreed to make a deal if they could come through on their promise of an "out the door" price and a 1.99% interest rate. Since they mentioned the interest rate, not us, I explicitly asked them if banks' were lending at this low of a rate, and they said yes, based on our credit. About 10 minutes after they left they came back and asked if a higher interest rate was fine, but that they were still waiting for responses to come in. As is the norm, they immediately followed up by saying, "well it would be only another $X per month". We said no and that we would only have a deal if they came through on their price and interest rate promise. By this point we were sitting in the showroom area and could tell, by looking over at the area where they were "waiting" for the bank responses to come in, that they were not doing anything outside of waiting a predetermined amount of time. They then came back and quoted the same higher interest rate that they mentioned previously. By this point we both did not have a good feeling about this dealership because of their way of doing business and told them that we were going to head home, think about things, and would get back with them. We were pulling out of the parking lot when the General Sales Manager, in his bright red shirt, came out and asked why we didn't have a deal. Both my wife and I told them that we were going to think about things, thanked him for what he had done thus far, and told him that this process did not leave either of us with a good feeling and that we wanted to take the time to talk about things. He then proceed to verbally insult my wife and I, told us that the deal would not be good if we drove off the lot, told us to go get our own loan, and was just all around rude. We were shocked. By this point we had made up our decision because you should not only feel good about the vehicle you are buying, but likewise feel good that your potential dealings with the dealership in the future would be pleasant. It is because of this that we cannot recommend this dealership and will never consider them in the future. read more

They will lie to you to get you into the dealership then when they do not have what you are looking for and realize they cannot help you, you are dismissed and rushed out of the door. read more

I went to the dealer for a routine recall. The mechanic showed me an air filter that I knew wasn't mine and claimed I needed to change mine immediately. I told him that i had just changed mine a month ago. I mean its winter in Tahoe (kinda), but the filter had a blue flower stuck in it and we don't have any blue flowers in the winter. But, I ignored his suggestions, went to O Reilly, went to change my filter in the parking lot, and guess what ? My filter was only a month worth of dirty..I am so mad someone would try to rip me off like that. They probably saw me as a lady who wouldn't change her filters herself! They quoted over $1700. in fluid changes and repairs. I am taking it to my mechanic on Tues and if they faked the colors in the test tubes that they showed me for fluids, I will do whatever I can to stop them! I took a picture of the chart with all the dirty fluids..I take care of my car, just not at a dealer. I think they saw no service records and thought they had a live one! The shop here told me they saw a similar case last month, a quote from M. hohl for over $1900 in repairs and the shop found nothing wrong with the car. Do not support these folks by buying cars from them. I love Subies, on our 4th!! I do not service them at the dealers, avoid the dealers like the plague. Not kidding. read more

One star is being generous. We bought a 2012 Outback at Michael Hohl. We loved our salesperson, Nick. We loved our car. Had a great experience. Told everyone how great the dealership was. Best experience ever. Fast forward 2 years, we received a letter about a special trade-in program - new car, same payments, "Little to no money down". We did trade-in for new vehicle - $4000 down, payments $30 higher. Was told 2014 Outback had all the options that our 2012 did - it did not. Made it clear to dealership we were waiting for tax refund, they said write a check, "we'll hold it, no problem, as long as you need". We stayed in constant communication with mgr. "Jim" regarding our taxes. ONE day before we received our refund, the dealership cashed the check & completely messed up our account. We called "Jim" multiple times, he never returned calls. They were supposed to install a new rearview mirror & he would call to let us know when it was in & we could bring car in & pay the down payment at one time since the check had obviously not cashed. He never called back. At 7pm on Friday night a different manager called asking what time tonight we were bringing payment in, stated we were supposed to bring it Thursday. Told him nobody told us that & that we had never received call back about mirror. He sent somebody to our house just before 8 pm to pick up the money. We have yet to get mirror installed or get back the money they promised to reimburse for overdraft charges. Our experience this time is a completely different experience & we will never return to the dealership for another vehicle. We also left multiple messages and sent a letter to Matthew Hohl, the GM - he never returned a call or contacted us in regards to the letter we sent. Their commercials say, "Michael Hohl, where it's all about you". What they should say is, "Michael Hohl, where it's all about your money and we don't care about you." read more

We have owned Subaru's for years. We bought a new 2016 Forester from Michael Hohl after we moved to Lake Tahoe from California. It was my decision to make that purchase (not my husband's). No problems there. Then we received a recall notice for our 2013 Outback. I took the car to Michael Hohl Service Dept. It took 2 visits but they said they fixed the problem. I was not impressed with the service - especially the manner in which I was treated. Less than a year later, the problem reoccurred. I called. They said to bring the car in. The dealer is 40 minute drive (one way). I took the car in and they wanted me to pay for them to fix something that they had supposedly fixed and was under a mandatory factory recall notice. The employee was rude and condescending. It was only when my husband got involved that they told him to contact Subaru USA to get Headquarters to agree to fix the problem and then bring the car back for the repair. Only then would they look at the car and fix it. They could have told me that over the phone and saved me making the drive to the dealer. But worse is the attitude of this service department. I have other female friends that have complained about the service and the arrogant attitude of the employees towards women. I have witnessed how they treat women compared to how they treat men. They are in need of training to bring them into current times. Message to Michael Hohl and Subaru USA: I make the decisions on where money is spent in this household and it will NOT be on any new cars or any future servicing by Michael Hohl Subaru. Message to other women and anyone who has respect for women: Don't subject yourself to unnecessary aggravation or support a business that does not treat you fairly. This is 2017, not 1950. Worst run dealership and customer service department I have ever dealt with. If there was an option for 0 stars. That is what I would give. I purchased a car here back in January 2017 and the finance representative failed to mention important items pertaining to the sales contract. I had to bring these up as we were signing papers. Then I ended up trading the car in due to engine problems for a new car at a different dealership and Michael Hohl failed on every instance to help me cancel my warranty. Which they are required to process for me. No one returns phone calls or emails. And when you get ahold of someone they are not willing to help or transfer to a voicemail and have extremenly rude demeanors. I would NEVER recommend this dealership or any Michael Hohl shop for that matter. read more

I recently needed to schedule an appointment for a safety recall notice on my Subaru Outback. Both Allysa and Logan in the service department were outstanding. Friendly, polite and very importantly got me in right away. Another Subaru dealer closer to my home did not reply to my three messages to schedule an appointment despite me reminding them on voicemail that it was a critical safety issue. The airbag replacement and another issue were taken care quickly and efficiently at Michael Hohl. I am very pleased with them. read more

Absolutely the worst experience buying a car. Liars, extremely rude. Wouldn't recommend to anyone. Wish I would have purchased from Lithia Subaru. Better prices much friendlier staff. Lesson learned any Hohl dealership will do nothing but rip you off! Don't buy from them. I would give them negative stars if possible. read more

I had warranty work done now a couple of years ago and you know I thought that after finding 6 hose clamps lose and a number of parts incorrectly placed in where the hoses are held that I was performing some routine maintenance that I do infrequently because the car is used infrequently... yes I am yelling at these punks even though they were irked at my being pissed off for there ridiculous and unprofessional job seemed to try and do what is right they didn't do it...right...to begin with or to end with....whoever they had work on my car at the time whether he or she works there or not doesn't matter they do not check each others work and besides the person who I cannot believe was a skilled let alone certified mechanic was anything but a 2 bit errand boy and floor sweeper... I had a recall for a fuel line fixed on an 02 wrx which the factory had conveniently attempted to disregard do to the recall it would have affected every car they made in that model year in all they tried to classify Nevada as a region that was warm winter climate and that the defect would not be a problem in my area which is anything but warm in the winter. Well needless to say I had gas leaking all over the place due to being left out of the garage one night... after getting Subaru of America to extend this work because the issue was retired they said take it to the nearest authorized dealer which was Hohl... my mother had work done there and they seemed legit and fair to her even though I had many people bad mouth them. This is where maybe heeding advice pays because the job took a total of 3 days longer for some reason that original but again the car is not my daily driver so I was ok with it.... I was finally told come get it so I did I didn't think anything of it and was driving home when I noticed it didn't sound right so immediately when I got home I popped the hood. I have worked on import cars and would have done this work myself had it not been covered by the recall. I found the intake on the turbo was not even connected all the hoses were unclamped with clamps loose which some were installed after do to the tendency of these to leak with age and boost pressure well known fact that these authorized hacks seemed to later complain about and it was like 3 clamps big deal but the point is the turbo was not even tight and leaking air which could have caused sever damage and with my luck I am sure there is some price that I will pay...well I then noticed all these surface scratches on the fender and to my disbelief they had told me they washed and detailed my car...now I knew why....ok I could go on and on and on and why I am coming back now and writing this now is they were pissed I ripped them on Hohl honda fb page because they didn't have a page for Subaru why because they suck... I was doing more work today after all this time and found that the hose holders are incorrectly put in the hoses have rubbed and worn now and this is because they were only concerned with saving face and not making sure the work was done and I was sick of a one day job taking over a week and making 3 trips for this...if you have recall work don't have your vehicle serviced by them...I thought I was through with finding things that were done incomplete wrong...no I didn't and you know I am not some schmuck who changes his own oil I do it all I replace motors build them etc and I might appear to expect a higher level of work but really I do not I know how difficult it is to work on thee cars however I do not leave or put the car back together incompletely or flat out wrong drag hoses over the paint and leave scratches which incidentally they should have repainted the other fender and the hood to match the paint since the new paint was matched but the aging paint is now a different shade and that sucks... makes me wonder just what really went on with my mothers car even though years ago they did have a parts manager who was excellent but he left and the parts doubled in price the service sucks and this is a reflection of the general manager who I had sent an email to and had not the time to return it... see I a just one person who thought he was wrong when they gave me the you over reacted bit and well know I was not you people don't belong working on anybody's vehicle you had a manger who appeared to be a cool guy dealing with idiots all around him I hope he moved on cuz he seemed like he could have been worthy somewhere else ..I could tell he was biting his tongue at me and at his staff because he was trying to decide who was telling the truth and who wasn't... its been a couple of years and I am sure the guy didn't just have a bad day on my car since he in my opinion was incompetent and had no business working on cars especially with the fact I work out of my garage without the aid of lifts and other shop stuff that the dealership has available including service manuals and everyday job working on vehicles being that they are all the same.... read more
