I got into a car accident 9/25/25 and I use Geico as my insurance. The car was received by Michael J's 9/26/24. This repair was done by Michael J's starting October. The damage was on front right side of my car which stemmed from the bumper all the way to the passenger side door. Front window and door was not damaged and there are more details for the repair but I wanted to mention the general idea of the work done. Another thing to note is I drive a 2022 Toyota Rav4 Prime which is relevant because its a recent car and no customizations so the parts should be easily available. Michael J's is also an approved repair shop by Geico so this process should have been seamless. The summary of this negative review is this: The repair took almost 60 days to be completed from dropping my car off at Michael J's lot to driving my car off. I had to pay over an additional month for my car rental which was over $1000. Many things to note but here are some highlights: -My car was in their lot for over 2 days and when the Geico adjuster finally made it onsite, they couldn't find the car which pushed back the adjuster to come back onsite. -I receive 3 calls about signing paperwork to start the work which was difficult since this was my only car. This took 2 days and by the 2nd day, I found out they could have just emailed me instead of have me sign it in person (the first calls they did not tell me this was an option) -I get a total of 2 calls back from Michael J's -I called 6 times asking for status checks -Michael J's had to submit 5 Supplemental estimate requests to Geico I've talked with 2 random shops around San Jose with 4+ star ratings about how much time the work should have taken and just focusing on the time alone, 4-6 weeks was the turnaround time. That's with a buffer for waiting for parts and some adjustments to the estimate. I did my due diligence as well calling the adjuster FOR the repair shop because the repair shop sent in a supplemental estimate that hasn't been addressed for days, I talked with both Geico and Michael J's to see if they can help with car rental or discounts, and I asked them for status checks 1-2 times a week after the first month of not receiving my car. AFTER all of this, I sent an email to both the representative handling my repair for Michael J's and Geico clarifying what happened throughout the whole process to determine if there was someone truly at fault and if so, which party. I sent this email on December, and as of today I have not received any replies from either parties. If anyone is curious about the whole endeavor and wants to know more details, you can ping me and I can send you the email I sent out to them. Overall, the 4.8 star rating for Michael J's is misleading and I will not return to do any repairs with them and would caution anyone planning to work with them to. P.S. I don't want to leave anything out but the person in charge of my repair offered 3 free detailing work for my car to offset the cost I paid for the rental car which I don't need. read more

After making a quick Mitsuwa run, I exited the plaza and was making a protected left turn on Moorpark/Saratoga when I heard a huge THUMP hitting my car on a blind spot. Lo and behold, someone decided to speed through their right turn and hit me after I completed my protected left turn. The accident left a gnarly gash on my car while their car left their bumper hanging (literally). We exchanged insurances with mines recommending me to go to Michael J's so I got everything set up and made an appointment the following week. This all occurred in November. My misfortune continued as the day after the accident, my dad had stroke and then passed away in December followed by scheduling his funeral in January. I needed my car to attend to these related matters so I had to call in and reschedule my appointment multiple times which started out in Late November and eventually, I was able to schedule and come in late April. In terms of rescheduling, everyone was super patient and accommodating to my circumstances but be careful to keep your chats open to keep track of everything since it's harder to just call-in. Then again, my rescheduling spanned out within 4-5 months so it might be just me. I finally brought my car in to get it looked at and fixed in late April where Sergio took care of me. He was very friendly and helpful by digging through my claim from November and processing what needed to be fixed. Additionally, he was able to help me fix my passenger door when it wouldn't lock for free after I got my car back. I cannot comment on price as everything was covered for me but in terms of service, everyone was friendly, the work took barely a week, and it was nice to track my car through the online chat in seconds. read more

Michael J's did amazing work on my wife's Crosstrek. After we were rear-ended on our weekend getaway, the missus was quite distraught as this was her car's first accident. The other party's insurance (AAA) referred us to this shop and we could not be happier. Our car was returned in better condition before the accident, as they did an amazing job with the bumper (plus used the excess paint they mixed to cover up a random chip on the door) and did a quick wash before we picked it up. If Michael J's was a restaurant, it would be a 3-star Michelin establishment. Work: Flawless! We had a bumper that was dented and paint was scuffed. They removed the entire bumper, took care of the dent, and a bunch of additional nicks and scratches that were not part of the accident. Customer Service: Exceptional! Sergio worked with me on the price since I was paying out of pocket. Best of all, I stopped by to ask his opinion on some light scratches on my motorcycle and he had one of his guys buff them out right then and there; no charge. I tipped the guy, but wow! The follow up with texts and emails was great and front desk staff was friendly and helpful. Our car got hit by another person and this shop was recommended to us as an official Acura repair shop. * We brought the car in for an inspection with agreed insurance estimates from the other person. Evan did go through all of it and agreed the $8k or so estimate looked right. We ended up with almost $13k (!!!). * I asked multiple times, if Michael J will handle all the insurance claims even if something unexpected did come up. They said they will handle all of this. They did not. * It took almost 1 month to get our car back which was confiscated until we paid through our insurance and paid the $500 deductible from our insurance. And that doesn't include the 10 days or so it took to receive the replacement parts. * We had a tiny chip on the hood, maybe 1/8" long and 1/16" wide. I asked if they could just touch it up with the paint they already needed to repair the car. I was told no problem and when I asked Evan if he needs to write it down, he said it will be taken care of. It was not and now we need to bring the car in again... I never had to deal with a body shop before but that is about as bad as it can get. read more

I used to work in the auto industry and was always told if I wanted my repairs done to the highest standard, to come to Michael J's. Unfortunately I have been a repeat customer with my Miata, but both times the work has been impeccable. This body shop isn't in my insurance network (Liberty Mutual) but working with Lee made everything flow smoothly. I was rear ended in early February (on the corner of taylor and coleman, which is actually right where the shop is coincidentally) and after figuring out all of the insurance details I brought my Miata in for an in person estimate. Lee made sure to listen to my concerns and special requests as I already had an aftermarket spoiler I wanted to use instead of ordering the oem one as well as ordering the trunk without the pre drilled holes. Additionally, I was wondering if instead of reinstalling the badges, if they could just fill the pin holes in the bumper since they were already doing labor on the bumper and they were able to get it done! If you ask anybody that knows me, they will mention how meticulous I am and how important color match as well as texture match are to me and both turned out perfect to me, even coming from a former Mazda employee who constantly saw what these cars look like factory fresh or even poorly repaired. After all was said and done the process took about a week and a half including ordering parts, and Lee was communicative throughout the process which I was grateful for. Even though put of network, Lee was able to work directly with my insurance so I didn't have to worry about that on my end. I definitely recommend Michael J's. read more

I reached out to my local Toyota dealership and asked them which body shop they work with when fixing their vehicles. They emphatically said Michael J's. So, after my Toyota Grand Highlander was heavily damaged due to someone opening their car door while i was driving by them, I chose them to fix my car. My insurance company initially gave a low estimate on the job so Michael J's reached out to my insurance company and coordinated a follow up estimate with them. After they both agreed on the new estimate, the work commenced. This took about 2 weeks to complete and had additional coordination/follow ups between myself, Michael J's, and my insurance company. During those 2 weeks, Leandro Abenoja aka Lee, was my POC from Michael Js. I cant say enough good things about Lee. He kept me apprised daily and provided excellent customer service. He answered all my inquiries during the entire process and made me feel at ease that my car was in good hands. When I got my car back, my car was good as new. I couldn't have asked for better results. They also touched up a few paint chips that I didn't even notice was there. Overall, I had a great experience and would recommend this body shop.
