Wow is all I can say, I take much pride in my vehicles and I was cautious when I took my lifted dodge diesel truck to this shop because I wasn't sure they could handle a lifted truck with front suspension / steering damage on top of the body damage from a hit and run driver. We were referred to Micheal J's Body Shop by one of the managers at AJ's Auto Detailing - as the dents and scratches in my son's Mazda Speed3 needed more TLC than 'just an awesome detail'. (Little did we know that Micheal J's is the authorized body shop for Oak Tree Mazda!) We were greeted by 'Richard Villanueva' in a very friendly yet professional manner, and after looking at the car - we asked him to give us a realistic rough estimate on what would be necessary to 'make it like new'. Unfortunately, my son didn't have the money for the repairs, and I was not considering filing an insurance claim... We desperately asked for 'another option', or if there was anything 'superficially cosmetic' they could do? To make a long story short, they had an employee (The Magic Man?) perform (what seemed like) **MAGIC** - with wet sand paper, polishing/wax compounds, and several different hand held buffing machines/pads - on the worst of the scratches. I was amazed, and my son was ecstatic - with the results! For now, we're going to hold off on the 'make it like new' repairs, but God forbid, if my son ever really smashes up the car, we know where we'll be taking it for body work - Micheal J's! read more

Amazing customer service and excellent work! I picked up my car today from Michael J's and could not be happier. My husband and I got into an accident two weeks after buying a new car. The process of coordinating through the insurance company was handled with professionalism by the Michael J's team. I recently took my almost 10 year old car to Michael J's at the referral of my insurance agent. I'm glad I did. From the moment I dropped off my vehicle, the crew went ABOVE AND BEYOND my expectations! They took the time to go over my car with me and explain what would be done. They assisted me a crazy good rate on my car rental while my car was being worked on. When I picked up my vehicle, I didn't even recognize it! Not only did they fix what was needed, but they detailed the car so nicely that it looked practically new! That's saying a lot because I'm a working mom and quite honestly, I don't treat my vehicle as nicely as I should with my busy schedule and two kids. This afternoon I went to get an estimate from this body shop based on Yelp reviews and on a recommendation from someone at AJ Auto Detailing. Rich was kind and a true gentleman to use an umbrella to shelter me from the rain as we walked to the front office. I was annoyed with the minor scratches on my door handle and driver side door panel that were sustained from trying to back out of a extremely narrow parking spot last night. I was hesitant about spending too much on the door itself since the scratches were minor but the paint came off of the door handle, which was unsightly. They gave me two separate estimates (one for just the handle) for me to consider. As I was leaving, they were kind enough to offer to do a quick touch up with paint on the door handle at no cost. I was quite surprised and thankful they were able to hide the white part showing through on my silver car while I decide whether to have it professionally fixed. I also appreciated their honest assessment regarding the scratches. I now understand why they received such high ratings - thank you Jeff and Rich for your service. read more

Last year I swiped my car against a cement pole in the parking garage... it was not a good day! Michael J's was approved by my insurance and looked like it was a clean place with a place to sit (the amount of garages with no waiting room amazes me), so I picked it but wasn't expecting much- but it went great! Everything was very smooth. They opened early enough that I was able to get there before work. They called a local car rental to come get me so I could rent a car covered by my insurance - another big plus that made me choose this location. One thing really blew me away though and made me want to write this review. In addition to my busted front bumper, I had some body damage near the rear of my car from some jerk that hit me and ran - but it was only about the size of a softball and not severe enough that I was willing to pay another $1000 deductible to my insurance to fix the damage. I had cleaned this ugly dent and ruined paint job myself the best I could, but I was worried it would rust. When I initially went to Michael J's, they asked me if I wanted to fix it but, as I said, it wasn't work $1k to me, so I said no... Well, when I picked up my car, in addition to fixing and painting my damaged front bumper that I paid for, they had gone over my car and painted that awful dent! It's still a dent but I don't have to stress about rust and a painted dent is better than an unpainted dent any day. I wasn't expecting that, and I am very grateful for it. One other thing that was really nice. After I brought my car home, I noticed this weird oily smear on my electronic dashboard. I couldn't clean it off no matter what. The very next day I brought my car back to Michael J's. The guy literally went that minute, got a rag and some magic goop, and scrubbed the glass until the grease was gone. He even offered to detail my car if I noticed anything else amiss. So nice! Obviously I hope I never have to go back to ANY body shop again, but if I do, I would definitely go to Michael J's. read more

Took my 2013 Ram to get some repairs done, at 597 west taylor st in san jose Michael J's Collision. It was the fastest and easiest place I have ever been to. My service advisor Justin and George the manager made everything super easy with the insurance. Justin always kept me on the emails that he send to my insurance. I dropped off my ram last week then on Tuesday i seen the email that my truck was ready.. i was amazed and not expecting it to be done that soon. Justin called me to Inform me that it was really, i did ask him if i could leave it there until Thursday when i had my day off from work. They were so understanding with my situation and said yes of course no problem. I went for my ram today and LOVED it..it was like new my eyes couldn't believe it. Michael J's at Taylor Street repaired and repainted the hood of my metallic painted car. After the job, it looked like new. In addition, they took out two additional dings that we did not discuss without increasing the labor cost. The quality of the work is top notch. I felt like their cost was a bit high, but, to be fair, it has been many years (decades) since I have taken my car to a body shop, so I am not up-to-date on the cost of body repair. "You get what you pay for," as the saying goes. I do not mind paying a bit more for top quality work like Michael J's delivers. I recommend Michael J's. My 2012 Volkswagen paint started to oxidize so I called the dealership and they recommended Michael J's Body Shop on West Taylor Street in San Jose. I spoke to George Piedra, Body Shop Manager, who explained the work that was to be done and gave me the estimate. The work was to be completed by Friday but on Thursday George informed me that he wanted the paint to cure 1 day before adding the clear coat. When I went to pick it up George explained that I should not wash the car for 30 days and when I do not to use harsh soaps that might eat through the clear coat. WARNING.... My vehicle was taken for a joy ride. Brought my vehicle in for minor fix to exterior paint. It took a week for the work to be done. When I picked up my car, iit had been taken for a joy ride. I wrote my miles down before leaving the vehicle. There was no reason for them to drive it. I found foot prints in the cargo area, candy wrappers, and foot prints on the back seats. The interior was a mess. In addition, the car had been driven four miles. Finally, they didn't fix the paint. Only covered up the issue. The damage is showing after three car washes by hand. I would never recommend this place. read more

I'm pretty sad to have to right this review and I waited to give them more than enough time to redeem themselves. I brought my car in for repair after a large accident and there was little to no communication from their side unless I would call to constantly follow up. When I went to pick up my car finally the repair was not done up to par and I requested my receipts for the parts. One month later I still haven't gotten those receipts and they lost my car decal, did a shoddy job on the paint, never put the light in my trunk and had somehow made my window lock not work. I received a call from them a few weeks ago saying they will have the decal on the 18th and they will fix the issues, today is the 23rd and they still haven't called me in. Most importantly I never got my receipts that prove that dealer parts were used in my car! I gave them two stars because although communication has been poor they are nice to chat with and the front desk lady is super sweet. read more

Because of a recommendation and all the great Yelp reviews, we took our 65 Mustang in here to be repaired from an accident. We did not expect to have it back in a matter of days, or even weeks, but it's been there since APRIL!!!!! This HAS to be something of a record for a car being held hostage by a repair shop. My husband goes in every few weeks to check on it and he is told the parts weren't in, etc. Then we were promised it would be ready on June 21. Well, here it is August 11 and we still don't have it. I guess they were fixing all the cars from the people who gave the 5-star reviews. I don't know why all the other cars that came in weeks/months after ours got worked on and ours just sat there. I wonder if we will ever see our car again ... UPDATE: IT IS NOW OCTOBER 29 AND STILL NO CAR. 7 Months? Really? Everytime we go up there, they promise it will be done "next week." NOT. We could have tried for a year, but got fed up and are are picking it up Friday, done or not. This is ridiculous. Hope you have better luck than we did. Took my Lexus in for damage, was first verbally told by Sergio that the vehicle was pretty much totaled. Later I find out they told insurance they could fix it. When we got it back, part of the rear bumper was not painted, the rims which were damaged were replaced with used rims. The plastic clips which hold the panel underneath the wheel where missing and was returned to them to fix along with the from quarter panel which was not aligned properly. When vehicle was taken back to repair all the items they apologized and stated they didn't understand why the rear was not painted and the clips will all be installed along with proper alignment of panel. Panel was aligned, clips which still obviously stuck out was left and rear again not painted. Then to top it off, the rims they installed began to cheap in a weird way which was not normal. I decided to stop taking my vehicle to them. Wasting too much time for lack of attention. Don't waste your time with them, good luck if you decide to go there. read more

Dropped car off on a Sat and was told the owner or someone would contact me Mon to provide details of next steps. No one contacts me and five days pass. Unfortunately I found Rudy's promises to be unreliable. 1. Car was to be done Thursday or Friday. Called late Friday to ask whassup? Not gonna be ready till next Wednesday. 2. Said the dent guy would be there to look at the other car tomorrow. No phone call to keep us updated...we had to keep calling so phooey on you. 3. My insurance recommended to drop my car for minor front repair to Michael J's. They were extremely fast at receiving me and posting an estimate. What did not go that well was the repair time which was much longer than planned (nearly 2 weeks for a damaged bumper). What was mostly troublesome though is that I was told each time to come back one or two days later and several times when I came to pick up the car or called I discovered that in fact my car was not ready. It would have been easier if I had been called back, I am lucky that the car rental company was flexible. I was disappointed, this shop did look very professional (and maybe are) On the technical side my car was well repaired. read more

I am writing this review after having an absolutely stellar experience at a different body shop for very similar work (unfortunately crashed my Audi twice in Tahoe, two years in a row!). From the start, the customer service at Michael J's bothered me. There was no communication about my car or the status from the get go. From the time I dropped my car off, it took weeks just to get the insurance appraiser out there. All of which I had to coordinate (NOT my experience with the more recent body shop I chose). The wrong parts came multiple times. Okay I can understand this a couple times, but it seemed like it kept happening and kept adding more delays. We're talking weeks, not days. To make matters worse, the staff member who I was working with kept missing deadlines of when he promised me my car back. I understand if there are delays outside of the body shop's control, but BE TRANSPARENT about it. Don't tell me over and over, "You'll have it by the end of this week, I promise!" and then not deliver. On top of this, he wasn't delivering me the status updates. I had to call weekly to understand why my car still wasn't finished. It took so long that my 30 day rental car coverage literally ran out and I had an extra 3 weeks of rental car cost billed to me. Yes, you read that right, it took almost 2 months to repair my car (and it wasn't catastrophic damage or anything). I thought maybe this is just how it goes at body shops. Heaven forbid I crash ever again! But alas about a year later, I had a similar accident and chose a different body shop in Redwood City. I kid you not, I drop my car off 5 days before this Christmas, and they have it back to me on Christmas eve. Constant communication. Little to no effort on my part regarding insurance and appraisal. Free rental car coverage the whole time too! After having a 10000% better experience, I can say with confidence: do not take your luxury car to Michael J's. They're just not set up for fast turn around if your car requires a bit of special attention. Find a more personalized body shop that truly puts in 100% effort to getting your car back to you as quickly as possible. read more

Fantastic! An auto body shop could not get any better than this! The gentlemen at Michael J's on Taylor were incredibly helpful, knowledgeable, clean, friendly, and efficient. As well, the shop itself was immaculate. Brief Background: After a nine month ordeal, following being rear-ended...we ended up at Michael J's for a quote. While at Michael J's...Between Rich and Ray and their extensive knowledge, not only of the body work necessary for the vehicle, but also of all of the insurance guidlines...We managed to get the ball rolling. Within a week, (and a Holiday week no less), the part was there. Dropped my Jeep off on Monday, expecting to be w/o it for a week. Received a call Tuesday that it was ready! My son was involved in an accident and the car cannot be driven. It was towed to a yard in San Jose very close to Michael J's Body Shop location. After searching Yelp I noticed they have very good rating so called them and asked if they would give me an estimate. The lady on the phone stated their appraisers will not drive to any yard regardless of how close the location is and I need to get the vehicle towed to Michael J's Body Shop if I want an estimate for my son's car. I explained the vehicle cannot be driven due to the damage and asked if she could make an exception. She couldn't care less and simply hung up on me! MUST READ!!! I have a Special Edition Chevy truck. A High Country with a package that is all special ordered parts. My poor truck was involved in a major accident of which Michael J's had to cut the frame nearly in half. A total of 125 Hours of Labor and more than 50 parts were needed for the full completion of the vehicle. Michael J's went ABOVE and BEYOND. Not only am I extremely impressed, it is literally flawless and I received it back in PERFECT condition. Vehicles are our personal properties, and when an accident happens, we all feel as if our property is forever compromised. This truck, I assure whoever is reading this, is a ONE OF A KIND! To receive the truck back in better condition than when it was dropped off at Michael J's is amazing! They are absolutely amazing and I will never bring any vehicle I have to any other body shop than Michael J's. When a vehicle is cut in half by the frame, there is always a seam. Not in this case. Brought my car in to make an appointment for a minor insurance repair on a Wednesday. They are an insurance-approved shop so said they wouldn't need an insurance adjuster to look at it before the repair. They reviewed the couple of minor dents and scheduled me for the following Monday. I dropped it off and they walked me through what they would do, saying it would be ready in 3-4 days, so I rented a car for 4 days. I got a call on day 3 from Ruben saying that they wanted an insurance adjuster to look at the car first and they had no timeline for when that would happen. I called State Farm and they advised me to take it to another approved shop. So I paid for 4 days of car rental unnecessarily and lost a week to get my car fixed. Most good reviews are based on the quality of their body work. I didn't get that far. If you have insurance repairs, I recommend looking elsewhere. So I changed to Michael and Co. and they said they could do the repair without an adjuster. They will even provide me with a free loaner. I will be taking my vehicles there from now on. read more

I can not say enough good things about this place. Someone hit my car about a month after I had purchased it. As you can imagine, I was pretty upset. When looking for a body shop, Michael J's had stellar reviews and was a 5 minute drive from my house. From the moment I got here, Jeff was so helpful. He took the time to really check out my car with me and explain the work that would have to be done. I'm not auto savvy at all, so he broke to down to me pretty simply. He worked around my schedule and let me drop my car off after hours because I couldn't leave work early. The car was in the shop for about two weeks, but it was VERY much worth the wait. Also, they had to order parts and replace my whole front bumper/paint/etc. They set up my rental car reservation too! When I came back to get it, I swear to you, it looked better than when I bought it. Ruben brought my car out and showed me the work they had done. The paint job was incredible. He explained that they had to do a little extra work on a particular dent, but they wanted me to have the best results, so they put the extra effort in. There was also a piece of rubber missing from my drivers side door, and he said they had some extra material so they fixed that too. They really didn't just do the basics, they went all out to make my car even more beautiful than the day I drove it off the lot. They also waxed it and glossed it which comes with a lifetime warranty (apparently all their repairs have a lifetime warranty. What!). I couldn't have asked for a better experience or more friendly customer service. Also (and I don't know if I'm going to explain this right because I really don't know much about cars), Jeff explained that they only use new parts directly from the companies, not shady parts other shops might get on the cheap. Basically, they don't skimp just to save a few bucks. It's all about quality, and they're willing to put in the hard work to guarantee it. IN CONCLUSION: This is the place to go. They are incredible and your car will look better than ever after they get their hands on it. BONUS: They have super cute and friendly little doggies! read more
