This used to be my go-to sandwich spot. It appears to be under new management. The selection of merchandise has deteriorated significantly and is now just basic corner store stuff. They are also selling little plastic bags with airplane liquor bottles and mixers bundled together. That's fine, but they are being marketed with names like "no panties" and "fresh pu$$y" to name a few. That's what the signs actually say. Many other titles imply that if you get a girl to drink these, you can have sex with her. I will not give this business a penny of my money until they remove this set of "products." read more

This gem of a find off the main tourist track makes a delicious deli sandwich, cold beer and wine in a box. Great service. Had the hot chipotle chicken and chipotle Gouda sandwich on the freshest sourdough bread. Very reasonable prices and just one small walk to the park we get a view of the bay without the price. This place has a really good sandwich if you are on the go. They were a lifesaver during the pandemic. The only reason I cannot give it 5 stars is the pricing for every other item in the store. If you want chips and a drink it turns a 10 dollar sandwich into a 20 dollar meal. Highly recommend if you are going just for a really good sandwich. read more

We saw a few places that had good reviews, but this place really piqued our interest. We were taken aback at how narrow this market is, but it has a large area dedicated to making delicious items. We ordered sandwiches on Dutch Crunch. Wow, this food was excellent. There was an icy cold breeze. We hid behind one of the walls and ate our sandwiches happily. If you are in the area and want a quick sandwich, this is the place to go. We didn't visit that many places, but this has to be one of the best sandwiches in San Francisco. read more

Love this joint. My friends intro'd me to this spot while having a park day at aquatic. We walked over from the park and it was perfect. They got sammies which looked amazing, I got the chicken salad which sounds boring, but it was soooo tasty. When we got there there were 3 people already in line. They have a wide selection of snacks and alcohol - my faves lol. There was only one person working, he was so awesome. We were all chatting and having fun while we waited for our sandos, talking about honey mustard chips (the best BTW), where we all lived, where we went to college, sports, aging lol, good vibes all around. Oh man, Michaelis is the hottest spot in Ghirardelli. The best sandwiches in the zip code, fantastic prices on Alcohol and the Jimmy/Archie combo of customer service is unbeatable. Brian B, who recommends that the owner of the store "beer bong some Prozac" is pretty harsh on Jimmy. It's a shame because Jimmy, or "Big Jimbo the Sando Man" as us regulars call him, is one of the nicest guy's in the world. Hard worker too. Archie, Jimmy's assistant (son?) is also very pleasant to deal with. He often let's me slide when I don't have enough change but I get the sneaking suspicion that he's attracted to me. I always feel like he's undressing me with his eyes as I'm paying. Overall, this place is one hell of a store and is the perfect spot to grab a huge tasty sandwich for under $5 and an inexpensive Forty for lunch. read more

I really wanted to like this sandwich. The Jay sounded right up my alley with chicken, hot sauce, pepper jack cheese & ranch. But this sandwich was just a mess to eat. To my surprise there ended up being lettuce, tomato, pickles, and jalapeños also included on this already huge sandwich which turned out to just be too much. With just one bite the ingredients started coming out of each side. So for next time I know to specify the basic Jay and won't get it toasted. Then I think that could be the winner! The bread seemed like it would be good too; but mine was just so soggy with the hot sauce and ranch. Cute little shop with all the essentials though. I was curious how long some of the things may have been setting on the selves as I noticed a few items covered in dust. But that could have also just been from the outdoors and the door remaining open most days. The top of my Red Bull can was also pretty dirty to the point of I actually washed it when I got back to the hotel. But all in all this is a neat spot to check out when you need a quick bite. read more
