Michaels was recommended to us by a waitress in a local establishment that was having a private party. When we got there we were a little disappointed in the building. But our food was excellent. I ordered the trio and my wife ordered a half slab of ribs. The ribs and pulled pork were outstanding! I ordered the baked beans and slaw as my sides. Both were very good. My wife had the slaw and the sweet potato fries. The sweet potato fries were really good - like (lol) dessert! Cinnamon crusted? Anyway 3.5 stars is waaaaay too low based on our experience. Our waitress was so nice, and the grilled chicken sandwich, or "yardbird" sandwich, was absolutely delicious! A great local family restaurant with huge portions! Service is always good! Warm bread kicks off the meal, followed by salads that most meals come with. Portions are large and they do not skimp on meat. The petite sirloin meal is my favorite, but anything with their homemade BBQ sauce is a huge hit! Their salads and sweet potato fries are also amazing! I don't know what they do to their baked potatoes but they're the best I've ever eaten. The restaurant is always clean and seems to be well ran. Located about two miles from the interstate, this place is a must for anyone traveling through. Michael's is decent for Athens. I think I prefer the location in Etowah personally. The service was really good, since we were with a very large party it is always a test to see if everything comes out in a decent amount of time. So that was good. I went with the grilled chicken salad. There are a few options as to how you would like your chicken so I went with blackened. Well it wasn't any more blackened then my wife's chicken. I was actually they didn't have an option for smoked since the original restaurant in Etowah prides themselves on their smoked meat. Anyway, the portion size was quite small and apparently salads come with a lot of bacon to add to the salad. Bread comes with meals so that is nice. Plus it was warm and gave the kids something to entertain a bit. The bathrooms were quite dirty which always is a red flag for me, but the food seemed pretty well and no one complained. My sons corn dog was over cooked so bad that I thought it was burnt. He didn't complain but that was a little odd. Anyway a decent alternative in Athens. read more

Servers are always nice. The food is typically decent but in my opinion they do have one of the best Club sandwiches in town with multiple cheeses. The flavor of the buttered bread on the sandwich though breaks it for me. Super good flavor cut in quarters and tooth picked together. There are always a lot of flies to deal with though. read more

Food is alright. Not had anything bad. The barbeque sauce is really unique and very sweet, almost like a jelly. My boyfriend is not crazy about it, I kind of like it. Not a good selection of beers though, I think it's their way to discourage you from drinking...Miller, Bud, Sam Adams (do people really still drink that crap?) No thank you. I like to have a good beer with my barbeque. Can't do that here because they dont have "good" beer. Also no liquor. Family style place. Good, clean, after church crowd type of atmosphere. Stopped here on out way through I75. Service was good food was absolutely nasty. Worst ribs I have ever been served wife and kid's steak was over cooked and dry. Side dishes were flavorless as well. There are some things you just don't order from here such as the brisket and a steak. I've been disappointed with those however, we love the Cowboy Burger, it's very filling. Don't even bother. I visited the Athens location. The menu touted their pork, chicken, turkey, ribs and brisket, and that it was all smoked from 16-20 hours. I ordered the brisket on the waitress's recommendation. This brisket was a bit fatty, but was oven-roasted. It had been nowhere near a smoker, unless you count the waitress that brought it to the table. In fairness, the mixed vegetables and green beans were good. The veggies were cooked in butter and garlic, and the beans cooked with bacon. But I didn't go there for the veggies. If you're going to crow about your BBQ, don't serve sliced oven roasted, fatty beef. read more

Just got home from going to pick up a to go order. Nice enough people work there but they are grossly incompetent. Ordered a shrimp ceasar WITHOUT the pasta (whoever heard of that in a ceasar salad anyway?!) and got the order wrong AGAIN! That's the FOURTH time in a row. No more Michaels. Usually very solid, but today was the exception to the rule. Slow time of the day, so no excuse for poor service. Server was unattentive and didn't check on me or my food till after I was finished. Brisket that is normally outstanding was too fatty to be served. Baked beans are a good choice for a side. I expect more from Michaels and they should expect more from themselves. read more

Let me say that the service and management were very efficient and friendly. The appetizer cheese fries were very good and the high point of the meal. The nachos were average and toppings were kinda scarce. I didn't like the sweet BBQ sauce too much either. My son got the lemon pepper boneless wings and the chicken was cooked perfect and juicy but were very salty which made them hard to eat. My wife had tried the Buffalo chicken mac and cheese that she had tried there the last time we visited. It wasn't on the menu anymore but they agreed to make it. She didn't enjoy it as much as the last time. Maybe it was an off night but when you spend your hard earned money you hope for a better experience. We had a very nice meal here. This restaurant is very pleasing inside and clean. My husband's beef brisket sandwich was plentiful and delicious. My chicken stirfry with rice was good and the only thing I would say is that it might've been a bit salty and that was probably the soy sauce. I had these piggyback baked potatoes that were humongous potatoes covered and pulled pork or beef brisket anything you wanted it was just delicious huge portions great price. Now the Michael's casual dining has lessened the portion and marked up the price I'm not a big fan of Michael's much anymore. Had a bad experience with a take out order. Order was for company lunch. Yes some ordered from the kids menu as it is lunch and they did not want large portions. Upon placing the order we were not told we could not order kids meals. After the order was paid for and the individual who was picking up the order turned to leave a tall lanky man poked her on the shoulder and said very rudely "You all cant order from the kids menu any more". If that was not possible we should have been told this when ordering as the order was called in under the business name. But that is ok Michaels of Athens, you just lost a business customer. I would say that in the last month we have ordered from Michael's individually and as a company more than 10 times. There are anywhere from 5-10 of us that order at a time. I guess you just lost a bunch of business because of a rude employee that may have been your lunch manager. Had we been told up front when the order was placed or in a nice manner when the food was picked up you might have remained a lunch option for us. Your menu is now off our menu. Being rude to your customers leaves a bad taste in ones mouth, even if the food was good. read more

Michael's came highly reccomended but definetly a disappointment . service was horrible & slow. we had a party of 10, but we ate in shifts: my husband & I got ours 1st...we ordered steak & baked potato-steak was tough, potato was COLD!! next was a friends sandwich & 1 child's plate.....another 10 minutes later the rest of the meals arrived though we ordered at the same time. Had to get up & find our own bottle of ketchup, asked for refills & still had to wait, 1 person in our group had to get up and take his cups to the waitress for refills. when check arrived the tip was included so i asked "please take tip off, service was horrible". someone came out to speak to me, he asked if i really wanted the tip taken off. when i informed him yes he asked rather defensively "exactly what was wrong". when i explained he was even more defensive, and again (& loudly) asked was i sure i wanted to take the tip off. i insisted i did. I always tip, usually more than what is "normal" but in this case i didn't feel it was earned. the waitress wasn't rude she just didn't do her job & certainly wasn't friendly. but have to say the person who came to see what was wrong certainly had an attitude. they could definetly take training from the manager of Famous Daves in Chattanooga... read more
