I have Too Good to Go, and I decided I wanted to try some cookies from a bakery I never visited before, even if they were day old. I hadn't heard of the company before, so after preordering I checked out their Instagram; their cookie of the month (Campfire) looked sooo good! I went in this morning and was greeted by friendly staff. Pickup was easy, and I also bought a Campfire to snack on. It was just as tasty as I hoped! I opened the bag later to check it out; I had TEN cookies for a low price, which was exciting, including another Campfire. I just ate a peanut butter that had been next to a snickerdoodle a minute ago, and honestly I couldn't tell it wasn't baked 30 minutes ago. Definitely worth a try! read more

Okay, so much like the other Yelpers have mentioned, this place is definitely a hidden gem. You could easily miss it if you don't know it's there. Which, until today, I always missed it. I often visit the post office that is next door to Michael's Cookie Jar (at least several times a month), and today was the first day that the cool wall graffiti at this establishment caught my eye. As I got closer, I realized that the establishment sold cookies. I made a mental note to stop by once I left the post office today, and I am SO GLAD that I did. At first entry, I was pleased by how clean the place is. Additionally, their selection of cookies are so neatly presented in the case, that all of them draw you in! Another thing to mention, you can see the staff working diligently and efficiently to create new batches of cookies. When trying a new cookie spot, I typically go for snickerdoodle and chocolate chip. I stuck with this duo and Michael's didn't disappoint. The cookie box that carries the cookies includes a label that reads "Made with butter and love"--zero lies spoken. These cookies are insanely delicious and the perfect texture (neither too hard or soft). The cookie size/portion is appreciated as well. I try to be mindful of my sweets intake, but no doubt the next time I'm craving a cookie I'll definitely end up at Michael's Cookie Jar. They offer a happy hour on Monday where you get two cookies for $3, so maybe roll the dice the next time you find yourself in that vicinity on a Monday! read more

Stopped by for a quick cookie fix. Reheat the cookies at home for cookie magic! We tried their snickerdoodle, chocolate chip, and double chocolate chip cookies. They tasted so good when we warmed them up upon arriving home. G's favorite was, surprisingly, the snickerdoodle. It was perfection. Normally that's not her favorite flavor at all! Well executed. The chocolate chip and double chocolate flavors were good as well, but the snickerdoodle is a must try! Don't eat them cold though. Warm is better. read more

Ughhhh I wanted to like Michael's SO bad. They're so close to my apartment that they're almost literally in my backyard so I've been wanting to try them ever since I moved here. Yesterday was finally my chance. I walked in in utterly excited. The shop smelled FANTASTIC-- mean, it's a bakery right? I imagine a bakery is what HEAVEN smells like. Mark my words. Anyway, I walked in, saw two workers in the shop and several types of cookies displayed. I was waiting for a "hello, welcome" but never got that. After that, I was at least waiting for an explanation of the special or description of the cookies since they were not labeled. I didn't get that either. Bummer. I hate to be this guy but Customer service is SO important to me. It really makes or breaks my experience almost regardless of the food quality. Maybe the workers were tired and ready to go home or something but still, I didn't feel welcomed. I had to guess and ask questions each time I wanted to make a selection.. What's this cookie? I see a sign saying "special of the day" can you explain? Etc anyway, i chose my cookies and the lady wrapped them up nicely in a cute little box (the best part of the whole experience. Great packaging.). I was so excited to get home and try them. I got: double chocolate, oatmeal raisin, chocolate chip and peanut butter--all the standards and hard to mess up right? Cookies were so frickin delicious but the staff wasn't pleasant at all. That's the only reason I'm not giving 5 stars. My mom and I visited today, and since it was our first visit, we didn't know which cookies to choose. We both ordered a Fun pack, so we had to decide on 24 flavors, but we felt very rushed to choose our flavors as if we were an inconvenience to the young lady checking us out. There wasn't a line. It was a great afternoon snack! My boyfriend and I always stop here for fresh delicious cookies. As tiny and Intimate as the space is, it sure does pack a punch on your senses. All 5! Michael's Cookie Jar is a hidden gem right behind the Petco ay West University. It is small shop with amazing cookies that range from the classic chocolate chip to beautifully designed sugar cookies. I ordered one chocolate chip cookie with pecans and was blown away by how soft and moist the Cookie was. I also ordered a second cookie and ate it the next day and it was still just as moist. I placed a same day order on the website for a 12" cookie cake for our 8 year anniversary and they delivered! LITERALLY! I work downtown and opted for the courier option and they delivered my cookie cake before 2pm (mind you, I ordered that same morning!). Crunchy on the outside, with just the perfect amount of sugar and cinnamon coating, soft on the inside, these cookies really satiated the sudden onset of my afternoon snickerdoodle craving. They are also nice and puffy, just the way I like them. 5 fat stars for these delicious snickerdoodles. The normal cookies are 2oz ($1.95 each), but they also sell mini 1 oz cookies at $95c each, great for portion control, or if you want to sample a few different types. However, other cookies that I've tried are average. I came here awhile ago after reading an article on the Houston Chronicle about the best chocolate chip cookie in town, and this place was ranked #3 (following #1 Tiny Boxwoods and #2 Commonbond), but I really wasn't super impressed; it tasted like a very ordinary chocolate chip cookie to me, not bad, but not extraordinary either. I also got to sample some oatmeal raisin cookies, and the experience was the same: not bad, no extraordinary. Nevertheless, these cookies are still better than your neighborhood grocery ones. Cookie Monsters Alert: There's also a cookie card you get for each purchase of a cookie, and you get a free Americana cookie on the fifth purchase. You get two free cookies if the date of the first purchase and the fifth purchase is within 10 days, sweet! Also, they sell day old cookie packs 5 for $4.99 with an assortment of cookies. I really enjoy this place and when I want a sweet treat its usually my first stop. First off I love there selection size. I know thats a strange thing to like but I do because the selection isn't huge but everything is a winner. I hate when I go someplace and they have a crapload of options but "you have to know what to get". Michael also has cookies that are only available on certain days to keep you from getting bored. (Smore's cookie on Thursday good gawd!!!) Every time I come to the place the employees are always working. Ive never seen anyone looking at their phone or just hanging around. They're all busy and they still greet you when you arrive. Even Michael works! In my head he was a snoody Parisian pastry chef with one of those tall pastry hats who barks out orders to his under chefs lol. But one day I walked in and there he was, folding takeout boxes and adding the label. Imagine that, Michael of Michaels Cookie Jar folding his own take out boxes! It speaks to his character. I came to know this place through a colleague who spoke about how much he does in the community. The day I saw him folding boxes I knew he was a down home humble guy. I find the service standard. I cant really put my finger on it and thats why I didn't take off any stars. No one is rude or unprofessional and as I said you're always acknowledged when you enter but the service just isn't warm, its lackluster. The people have much better baking skills than they do customer service. All that being said Ive never had anything happen that kept me from coming back. In fact I tell everyone about them and the cookie Gods have rewarded me for this because there is now a location 5 minutes from my home in Tanglewood. BAD COOKIES, WORSE SERVICE. With all of the amazing cookie options out there, I'd kind of forgotten about this place. They reminded me of their existence by texting a $5 coupon (although I never signed up for that), so I made the drive across town to give them another shot. Upon arrival, they were out of almost every single cookie, but since I'd already made the trek, I ordered I think the last two (basic) cookies they had. There is something so special and pure and true about a really, really good cookie. It just makes me happpy on the rare occasion that I used to enjoy one. Since I've discovered Michael's Cookie Jar, I no longer have to worry about where my next great cookie fix will come from. Michael is a CIA grad pastry chef and was with the Four Seasons for 13 years so he knows all about quality and service. His cookies are simply divine, all-butter, handmade and fabulous. My favorite is the orange shortbread dipped in bittersweet chocolate (oh how I want one this very minute!), the lemon poppy shortbread and the brownies (and I'm really picky about brownies!). He offers all of the traditional favorites (including chocolate chip and oatmeal-raisin) along with biscotti and many wonderful bar cookies. He also does incredible logo-cookies using his splendid sugar cookie as the base. A friend of mine gave them as client gifts over the holidays to rave reviews. Michael's cookies are available for order on his website (www.michaelscookiejar.com) to be picked up from a number of "partnered" locations including Diedrich's on Montrose, Casa Blanca Floral in River Oaks and at House of Coffee Beans in West U. I used to get my fix at McCain's Market in the Heights but since they have closed, I understand Michael is working on a new pick-up location in the Heights. You can also have them mailed or couriered to you. He does gorgeous gift packaging (there is a really cute option for Valentine's!) or simple bakery boxes. I wanted to rate this place higher because it was such a cute little spot. They support the community, as the day I went they were having a kid's day? They had kids in the kitchen, and a bunch outside with a band and games. They are very upfront about cost, packaging, and are willing to work with you and your needs. They were able to waive our image set-up fee since we used a logo that was already in their system. The final cost of the cookies wasn't bad at all for the amount that we ordered!
