I love this Michaels for the super easy and convenient curbside pickup. I'm not sure if that's ongoing post-Covid, but during the lockdown I was super appreciative to be able to swing by and have my order brought right out to my car curbside. As a magician who makes many of his own props, I shop in Michael's regularly, at least once a week. You can imagine how thrilled I was when a location opened up near my home. Well, not so much....this is the worst Michael's ever. The company should close this one down lest it drags down the entire brand. First of all, stock is limited. Secondly, unlike other stores, you cannot find anyone on tbe floor to help you. And, when you are finally able to a track down an employee, you have to wait to ask your question as they are understaffed so everone that needed help is waiting for the same person. Worse, the answers given are wring as the items I was told to find in one place were later found somewhere else, and the items I was told they do not carry I found looking for the others. Speaking of understaffed, expect to wait a half hour or more in the checkout line as there are many registers but only one or two cashiers to handle the long lines. The nail in the coffin....I wanted a Halloween Zombie Plane Ride that my child had his eye on. I was told they only had the display one left but it was working and I could take it at 70 % off. But, no returns on floor models. I bought it and brought it home. Plugged it in...it did not work. I brought it back and reminded them they said it was working. You guessed it, they insisted no returns. I chatted customer service. It should be renamed lip service. They told me only the store could address this. Catch 22....nobody was going to be accountable. Not the store, not corporate. Lesson learned, will drive to better stores. Zero stars are not a choice but zero is what they gave me. My advice, buyer beware. Bad service and dishonesty are the hallmarks of this establishment. read more

Yep, they need to shut down. NOTHING here that I need, nobody is working, and I've been waiting in line for over 20 minutes and there's 2 people in front of me. This is seriously ridiculous. This place is the definition of my total nightmare. Had to drive all the way back in a holiday MESS with no parking anywhere because they had forgotten to ring out my paint the other day. Nobody knows what's going on and everything takes forever. Get more workers and stop overworking your staff. They're obviously too tired to pay attention and they're all grumps. I almost ended up leaving and driving to West Hartford to get my paint elsewhere. Not to mention the prices. Wanna do a simple project? $100 our the door every time. I was so glad that this was opening near us as I hate going all the way to the mall area for things. It isn't rocket science to see that it's not going to have a massive selection just by looking at the size of the building. 9 out of 10 times I can find what I need there. Their staff is always insanely sweet and helpful. The manager is always kind. Last summer I was on the hunt for items for a friend's wedding up in NH and an employee helped to search inventory in both CT and NH and made calls until we found what I needed. read more

On my first visit to this store I loved it. It was a Saturday morning. The clerk asked if I needed assistance, I told her what my project was and she was full of suggestions. She also took me to each aisle I needed to get my supplies. My second visit was on a Wednesday evening after work. Different clerk but same experience as far as offering to help. This time around she did admit she wasn't sure but she got the mgr who was equally helpful. It's unfortunate others haven't experienced the same service and not sure why but I definitely will be a regular. I am glad they finally placed one in East Hartford. read more

I ordered a puzzle online. 1st of all the website made it seem like it included 3 puzzles (London, Paris, NYC). A little misleading but I should have figured it was too good to be true. Shame on them. Anyways, the item kept getting backordered. When it finally came, not only did I not get 3 puzzles but I only got 1. The kicker was they sent me a puzzle of stamps. ???? I called them and told them they sent me something I didn't order. They said I could return the puzzle if I didn't like it. So I requested a return label. I sent back the puzzle I didn't order and they only refunded me $10.21 of the original $17.60. I called them and they said they were still charging me the shipping costs. I said that they shipped me an item I didn't order. Why should I have to pay that? They knew they couldn't fulfill the original order. They should have told me that before shipping or at least have told me that I would be responsible for the shipping charges either way. It just doesn't seem fair to me to be charged shipping on something I didn't order. They notified me when the item was backordered, why didn't they notify me when they knew they didn't have what I ordered? I'll tell you why. They wanted the sale so they just sent something out hoping I'd keep it. When I didn't, they hit me for the shipping charges. How disgraceful!! Especially during these difficult Covid times to take advantage of people. I will not shop at Michaels ever again and suggest you do the same. read more

I have had a totally frustrating experience with the framing department at Michael's in East Hartford. I brought a standard size pastel painting to be framed. The only help was a store manager who was constantly interrupted with other store issues and customers. Consequently, my 9X12 painting was a disaster. They cut my signature off, the mat looked like masking tape and I had to buy chalk to re-sign it. This should not happen. This store is understaffed, disorganized and when store managers have to do your framing, something is very wrong! Michael's told me they would fix the painting for free and it would be ready in two weeks. A month later, I'm still waiting. I've called, all I get is muzac and then the phone hangs up. Finally, I got the store manager who switched me to framing. The lead framer told me they had to send it out. Send it out? You don't do it there? She asked me if she could spray it with fixative. I told her,"No, that's why I'm bringing it to the pros. Put a spacer in there." She acted like she had no idea how to do this. I am still waiting to hear from Michael's as to when my painting will be ready! I guess the whole energy of the store is chaos, trying to cut corners, can't keep or get employees and the customers are the ones that suffer. Very sad, frustrating and a waste of time. read more
