Many dive bars in Philly are very neighborhood focused and sometimes you feel a bit out of place if you're not a "regular", this is not the case at Locust Bar. Their bartenders and friendly and efficient, and the crowd is usually friendly and talkative. Standard selection of drinks and a pretty wide menu. The food is good, but not everything is great. Stick to the fried selections.

The space is small but mighty, adorned with local art and lots of fun quirky decorations. The bartenders are friendly and efficient, but remember to bring cash as this spot is cash only. A true no-frills spot. There's lot of seating, on a week night you'll have no problem grabbing a seat at the bar or a booth, but on the weekends they are packed open to close.

The door had a posted sign as a warning, "One Urinal, One Toilet, One Lock". The walls and ceiling (yes ceiling) was plagued with colorful marker ink and stickers, basically graffiti. Was not sure if I was permitted to add to the decor, but I wanted too so badly. Surprisingly, the sink, urinal, and toilet was so clean that the white porcelain shined against the graffiti. The retro-inspired geometric pattern of white and black hexagons created an inviting tile floor. If you are visiting Philly, you gotta take a peek. Guaranteed this is a stop you wont soon forget.

When you walk in here all eyes turn and they know you don't live in the neighborhood but everyone is friendly. People talk to one another. It's a little like Cheers in South Philly. They weren't the best tacos you'll ever have but for $1 and with drinks, totally worth it. The fried pickles were good but I would've liked them to be a bit saltier and for thicker ranch. We also grabbed some of the half priced drafts which were a steal.
