Always had a great meal here...got take out for my birthday and the chicken parmigiana was dry and had little cheese. the next day tried to reheat the chicken and it ended up in the garbage! OMG this place seems to be just a dive, yet all the food that i ordered was absolutely amazing. I recommend their lasagna. The serving sizes are quite large and if you are at a hotel without a microwave you should get a half-size. This "italian" restuarant has been arount town for a long time. The food is just ok and you get a big portion for price paid. However, they obviously water down their pasta sauces and the flavor isn't there. A true Italian wouldn't water down their sauces that's very cheap and cheats a customer from getting quality. The waitress was very attentive. Popping up out of nowhere to refill drinks and ask if anything was needed. Bottom line. Good service. A lot of food. Mediocre quality. read more

This is a great place for a quick meal of Italian comfort food Lunch was the 3 meatballs special which came with pasta, which I upgraded to gnocchi, and a cup of soup. I am rarely let down by fellow Yelpers in New York City. Even if I don't get a chance to read the reviews, I usually have at least a three star time for those places rated with 3+ stars. Yelpers in NYC, they watch out for me, and I appreciate it. I figured the same courtesy would be extended to me elsewhere in the state and country. But I was wrong. I was so, so wrong. I am not entirely sure where the people who gave this place 5 star reviews have eaten before, but I'm going to make the harsh assumption that they've never eaten anywhere else. Because nothing about this place is worth 5 stars. Maybe the service; our waitress was nice and the hostess was pretty nice as well and the food got to us in a decent amount of time, but that's it. That is the only good thing about this restaurant. And honestly, I should have anticipated that the only good thing would be the service when I realized that the menu didn't even have a choice of sauces. First we received our obligatory basket of bread -- three or four cold slices of a large, soft, nondescript loaf of white bread slapped into a basket with three times the necessary amount of butter packages. Gross. Super super super gross. Then came the salads. Iceberg lettuce, two cherry tomatoes, two slices of pickle (what?), and rolled up deli-sliced mozzarella cheese completely covered in a half inch thick slathering of bleu cheese dressing. Super gross! Pretty much inedible. After that, the entrees. I ordered ravioli, and got seven giant most likely frozen raviolis covered in what I'm pretty sure was Ragu sauce. Boyfriend ordered chicken parmesan and got some breaded chicken covered in deli-sliced mozzarella and the same Ragu sauce. He also got french fries, and those were pretty good. In total with tip, the bill was $40! making it our most expensive "non-fancy" meal of the trip. In short, if you like Italian food, don't come here. And if you like Ragu and frozen food, just buy it at the grocery store and make it at home. read more

After (hopefully) my final evening of house-hunting, my Realtor brought me here for some grub. It's a simple place in the heart of Little Italy. The food is solid, the prices reasonable, and the portions are serious! I ordered a calazone which I had to doggy-bag and wound up eating over the course of three meals! It was delish, except for the mushrooms that I had added. I'm pretty sure they were canned. But everything else in and on the folded pie definitely was fresh! I'm salivating just thinking about it. Next time I will order it plain and enjoy the simplicity of it. My Realtor ordered a pasta dish off of the daily specials board. Let me start off by saying that I'm not a huge fan of pastas & pizzas, hence the 3-star rating, but now and again I get a real craving for it. I found the recommended chef salad to be overrated (though they ARE generous with the mozzarella), but that tomato sauce...oh, that sauce would make ANYTHING taste amazing! My boyfriend got the beef ravioli, and I got the lasagna... didn't matter what we ordered, though, so long as that sauce was on it! Not vegetarian friendly. Was informed NO red sauce is vegetarian since they keep their meatballs warm in it. Received a tomato and lettuce salad and it had pieces of what looked like to be ham. I didn't realize that was what it was (initially thought it was possibly part of the dressing) and accidentally ate a small piece. Was fairly upsetting and I lost most of my appetite. I did get their one specialty pasta that had broccoli and the sauce was oil based. Was recommended that when I asked about vegetarian-friendly options. Don't plan on personally going again unless they change some of their kitchen practices to help with vegetarian clients. Very disappointing. In town during the off-season, we were tempted to stay at the hotel with fellow conference folks for dinner - but instead decided to venture out for local eats - and am I so glad we did! Great, homey gnocchi and also had to try that greens & beans soup everyone raves about -- it was definitely a great thing to split (for a cup for $3.50, why not have an experience?) and I could tell that my father would likely order something like that by the bucketload. We enjoyed this and that from the menu and it was nice to have an affordable glass of wine with dinner too. Our server and the staff were very nice, and the place had a great feel on a Sunday night. Passing the bathroom test with flying colors doesn't hurt either. I had to bring some gnocchi because the serving was so generous and it reheated great too. I always feel right at home at Michael's. Plain and simple: I love their sauce. I always order the soup, a basic pasta dish and never finish. The portions are HUGE and the service is incredibly fast. I've never had anything I didn't like here. They have a delicious antipasto that my parents always order, and the greens and beans is my favorite. My boyfriend likes the eggplant parm, the gnocchi, and parms whatever dish he gets (they offer this option)...he insisted I add this into my review. Rave-E-Olis! I can't say enough about Michael's Restaurant. Whatever you do, make sure you order the soup. The soupses are always good, any kind! Even the muchroom and muchrooms are fungus. You could stun a yak with their raveolis, their so big! And many! The sauce is sweet and yummy, the bread is fresh and yummy, and the bathrooms are tiny, not yummy. And the bread is free, but I bet you still have to order something or they wont give it to you free. I dont know because I havent tried. Good luck to you if you want to. I kinda feel like anyone can boil up a box of pasta. If you're a newbie, set the timer on the stove for the number of minutes it says on the box, and when you hear the "ding" just drain and the pasta will be al dente. So for me it's not about the pasta. It's the sauce. And "Michael's" has great sauce! Not too sweet... not too acidic. Just perfect! This place isn't fancy, but the service is always good, the prices reasonable, the portions huge, and the food yummy. There are many, many pasta choices, as well as "American" dinners, sandwiches, pizzas, salads, and calzones. And, there are always interesting specials listed on the board. Most recently I ate here with my favorite dinner companion. This time rather than ordering different things and sharing tastes we both had the exact same thing.... Spaghetti Parmesan Dinner with Meatballs. Dinners come with either a salad or a cup of soup. We both had the Beans and Greens soup which is ABSOLUTELY DELICIOUS! I would make the drive just for that soup!! The pasta was perfectly cooked and the meatballs were definitely homemade, and the entire dish was covered with PLENTY of bubbly cheese. And, the portion was HUGE. But, we knew it would be. Of course you can get a "half order".... but it's so much more fun to get the full size one (for just about a dollar more!) and take half of it home for the next day. read more

Omg, First you need to know, I travel all over the northeast and into the south. I recently had lunch with my friend Russ. This is the best Italian food I've ever! Had. They have unbelievable food taste. A most place to try! Mark I have been here two more times. Unbelievable! I just took my daughter and 7 year old picky eater grandson. Well he ordered spaghetti and the portions are large. He ate 3/4 of it, never does he eat that much. My daughter had a salad with the rolled cheese, at must and lasagna. I lived in the Fall in the early 80's and found Michael's while working for the ambulance service. I live in western PA now and Michael's is a must go when I return to the Falls while on business. There are 3 italian restaurants in the Falls; Michael's, The Como, and Fortuna's. All are good and all are different. I'm a Michael's person. The portions are big and the food is good. The atmosphere is homey. Nothing has changed since I began going to Michael's in 1980! This place IS Niagara Falls. The Chef Salad with the rolled mozzerella is a must have. The bread is from Di Cammillo's, a well known bakery in the area. I have never had a bad meal in 30+ years. Michael's is worth a try while visiting the Falls. If you're an amature foodie that needs to be pampered and thinks food presentation is key, go to Fortuna's or The Como. If you want to experience true Niagara Falls and have a good italian meal, Michael's is for you. read more

OK, so I'm from Oregon and we have Mexican food there, not Italian. My first time in the great state of New York and we went to see Niagra Falls (more than lived up to the hype!) and were looking around for some Italian food and found Michael's. The decor is fine and as it was busy at 2PM we were feeling good about our choice. We had a pizza and a calzone. Now this was Italian food!! Very different from west coast Italian and I wish I could find a better word, but it was "alive". From crusts to real pepperoni... it was just an excellent meal. Everything here is fantastic. The food is delicious and arrived at our table fast. The fried calamari appetizer comes plentiful with a signature dipping sauce which is to die for!
