Adj: pretty amazing arts and crafts supply store This is a big Michael's store on North Freeway in Natomas. It's got a little bit of most everything and a lot of some things whatever you might be looking for in the arts and crafts dept for your hobbies and interests. We came specifically to look at yarn and there was a ton to choose from. After Michael's bought out JoAnn's, there's a lot more to choose from because the JoAnn's store brand yarn is now also available at Michael's plus other supplies that are also JoAnn's brand are included too now. In particular, I find the Loops and Threads private label basic acrylic brand to be really good quality and doesn't fray and not rough like Red Heart which I really don't like. Looking around the store at other items, there was a lot of St Patrick's Day items: decorations, crafts, fun knick knacks, etc. The Easter items were also out in full force with tons of pastel everything you can possibly think of. This store was well organized, big, clean and to me nicer than the one on Laguna in Elk Grove. Of course, this store is newer so that might be a big part of it too. As for customer service, I picked up a couple skeins of yarn that I ordered online to make sure the color wouldn't run out before I got to the store in person and the staff person was friendly to point me to where to pick up since I'm not as familiar with this store as the Elk Grove one. Good value on my purchase as I had a discount on my rewards account, but I also found a lot of clearanced and discounted yarn. In fact, there was a ton of items on sale throughout the store! Around this time of the year I love visiting this Michaels location and perusing their Christmas section. If you were to tour my home during the holiday season, 75% of the Christmas decorations that you will encounter (both inside and outside my home) has been purchased from Michaels. In comparison to the Elk Grove location that is in close proximity to my home, this location is HUGE! Being African American, I love the fact that this location stocks African American figurines (i.e., Christmas tree toppers, angels, santas). The online inventory checker is pretty accurate, so I use it often for the store pickup option. If you have the patience to wait until early December to purchase your Christmas decorations, you will benefit from the 50-70% clearance items (I never pay full price)! I cannot honestly say that the customer service at this location is great. I rarely see employees on the floor; therefore, do not be surprised if you see a customer risking their life (I'm so dramatic) standing on a shelf to grab an item that is out of reach (shamefully I admit that I have been victim to doing so). However, I can say that the cashiers are generally always friendly a do a good job of suggesting other items in the store that might compliment your purchase(s). It's a holiday weekend, and while most people are kind and patient during this time, my experience today was disappointing. Around 2:20 PM, the cashier was sarcastic, snarky, and came off condescending when I showed her my voucher directly from my email. The voucher was valid and expired today, yet I was told I couldn't use it and was made to feel questioned unnecessarily. What made it more frustrating was seeing the same cashier waving goodbye to a customer I later noticed putting items into a black purse while shopping with their daughter. Maybe focusing more on the store cameras instead of questioning a clearly valid email voucher would help prevent actual theft. Holidays are stressful enough--basic respect goes a long way. I haven't shopped at Michaels in over a year. I went in today because my daughter needed supplies for a school project. After we picked everything out, we went to the front register to check out. There was no line -- we were the only customers waiting. Two sales associates were standing at the counter talking to each other. One eventually got on the phone while the other walked back and forth. Neither acknowledged us or offered help. No greeting, no explanation, and no direction. Despite three self-checkout registers sitting right in front of us, no one informed us we could use them. I had to notice them myself and ring myself up. The issue isn't self-checkout -- it's the lack of basic customer service. If employees are not available to assist, the least they can do is acknowledge customers and provide clear direction. Standing at the register and ignoring someone who is clearly waiting is unacceptable. I'm a supervisor in the healthcare field, and if my employees behaved this way, it would be a coaching issue at minimum. If it continued, it would be a retraining or staffing issue. Customers should not have to guess how to check out or feel like an inconvenience. read more

I came here to pick up a few things for a project that I was working on. I found what I needed. Went to the counter but I couldn't use the kiosk because I was paying with cash. So, Aden said I can help you over here. He was super nice. And funny. We started talking as he was ringing me up. He mentioned that they were doing a $5.00 grab bag but it's really a box. I asked what was in them he told me old seasonal items from Christmas, Valentine's Day, new years ect. Ect. The store is trying to sale all items to clear out the old to bring in the new. He was honest which I really found refreshing. He said he box is a surprise, he said you like surprises right. I said no, your wrong Aden, I do not like surprises at all. We started laughing. He said it's only $5.00 I said ok, I'll take 1. He said ok cool, when you come back tell me what you got. I'm doing you 1 better Aden, I made a video. I'm glad to have Michaels available for craft and decorating needs, but I often find that I'm not actually able to find everything I need when I go to the store. Maybe I just have really specific projects I'm working on or there may be so many options now that it's hard to have everything in store. Luckily their online availability is better, but you may need to plan ahead better and may be paying shipping. If you're looking for more basic supplies or just looking to be inspired with creativity this is a great spot. They also have coupons and deals usually that help make crafting and projects more affordable. The parking lot can be pretty busy but we always find a spot easily. Also, if you head in after holidays you can find some great deals. Currently they have some Christmas items 60-70% off including some candles that smelled great. read more

Stopped by today to get picture boxes that were on sale 3 for $9.99. Picked them up on a rack that said, 3 for $9.99. Went up to pay and of course, had to do self checkout. Literally no line a one person at the counter. So I did her job for her. While I'm there. another employee is having a loud tantrum because she had to receive something....blah, blah, blah, unprofessional to say the least. I use the scanner to scan each box and of course the price doesn't reflect the sale price. I ask the girl at the counter why and she said "I'll ring you up over here" after she scans them she walks around to the monitor that i used and tells me "it didn't work because you scanned the same black & white one 3 times) I didn't have a black & white box, nor did I scan the same one three time. Went in there yesterday to purchase Cricut vinyl materials. As always, I show the price as listed on Cricut.com in order to price match. Was never an issue until yesterday, where the employee at the front said that the manager said they don't price match Cricut. I asked if she was sure, because it was never an issue before. They didn't price match. As per Michaels.com, it is policy that they price match Cricut.com. I suggest the manager take time to review the company's policy. During my visit on June 26th, at about 8:10pm to the Michael's store in Natomas, I approached 2 store employees asking if I needed a key to use the restroom. My mother had actually just used the restroom a minute prior, and she shared I would need to ask the employees for assistance. At the arts and crafts near the restrooms, there was 1 younger employee and another employee, an older female, who was incredibly rude. She aggressively told me "bathrooms are unavailable." I explained I was surprised to hear that due to my mom using it literally a minute ago. She questioned how my mom got in the restroom, and I explained she had asked one of them for support. She swore that she didn't let anybody in and insinuated I was lying. I again explained she had gone in a minute ago. She exclaimed "WELL RESTROOMS ARE CLOSED!" With about one hour before closing being left, I was very confused as to why restrooms were not accessible and why there already were announcements on the speaker of the store closing. I've never had a bad experience at Michael's, and it saddens me to know you're hiring people who are absolutely unapproachable and simply just mean. If I could give zero stars, I would. I have always liked Michael's. They have great variety of art and craft supplies. I have always gone here for my art supplies. I especially like how they always have coupons going. My experience at this store is that the workers are always helpful and friendly. 2 stars from me because the line here is always long and slow. They usually only have 2 cashiers no matter the line. Michaels has been my go-to whether online orders or in-store. I do so for my memorabilia biz on Ebay that I have done for 21 years now. I mainly buy their frames and usually the cd frames or 11x14 frames that are matted for an 8x10. This is because they offer 50%+ sales and sometimes 15-25% off even sale prices with code or coupon! I have even made orders of 100+ frames online and had them delivered. Whew! So of course my main stop was their store on Truxel next to the ratty Ross. That store is very cramped and you couldn't take the carts out of the store as they attached a pole to them to avoid cart theft. Ghetto guerilla tactics to combat ghetto activity/areas. Sad to see as it is a pain hand carrying 50+ lbs of frames to my car. So I used to ask them if I could bend the pole to fit under the door and promised to return the cart after unloading my frames. Supercalifragically lame! Now with the new location on N. Freeway they moved into their larger and fancier digs not far away but seemingly millions of miles away from the rachet area and rachet homies near that Walmart center and Ross in thugville. Why the 3 stars you might ask? Well, the dreaded CS abreviations come to mind. Yes...customer service. It is not hen's teeth rare but rare indeed to find someone to help. You can go here if you like to be left alone when shopping. But if you have a ?...good luck...It won't stop me from shopping here but sometimes you like to know going into battle what you are up against so that there will be zero surprises. Frames, paints, shirts, decor and any arts and crafts they likely will have. A clean new store, which was my first visit since they moved, is nice to check out. A LITTLE BACKGROUND: Though I am a trained artist (among other things) I did not follow that career path because I did not want to be a "starving artist" eating Ramen NOODLES trying to get paid for my DOODLES. As such, it has been many years since I've picked up a paintbrush to actually paint. Recently, I got the idea to do some customization to a pair of my Louis Vuitton sneakers each time I had some free time (which is very limited) to get back into doing some form of art. I had a variety of ideas in mind & a variety of colors that I was thinking about to paint on my sneakers. So I hit up Yelp & began to look for art stores & there was Michael's, so I decided to stop by & see what they had to offer so I could start my new hobby :D STORE EXPERIENCE: I entered the store & I was greeted by a nice bright smile from who I later learned was Carol, the store manager. She welcomed me into the store & I was off to search for the items I found on the Michael's website along with where to find them in the aisles. While browsing for my items I found some great deals such as buy one get one 50% off for certain items. It's always a pleasant surprise when I go into a store not expecting to find any deals & I find great ones! Anyhow, there was a current item on my list that I could not find, the "Princeton Select Artiste Series 3750 Angle Spot Detailer Brush." I was standing in the aisle with my head going up & down looking at the various paintbrushes trying to find it, of which the website said it was available in stock. As I stood there with my head bobbing up & down with a puzzled look on my face, the Lovely & Knowledgeable Ashley walked up to me, greeted me pleasantly & asked if I needed any help. I greeted Ashley back & said yes thank you for asking if I needed help, as I am trying to find a detailer brush that I saw on the website. I then showed her my "Shopping Phone" which I use to take pictures of items in person & on websites as well as having various notes & calculators. It seems extreme but I consider myself a "Professional Shopper"...LOL. I showed Ashley my "Shopping Phone" with the item I was looking for & she intensively searched through the aisle & even found me alternative options. I decided to go with two of her alternative options as we could not find the specific one (Inventory was being done in that aisle as well). I then inquired about a "Montana Acrylic Marker" that I saw on the website. She found it & it was the last one, so I was very delighted! I then asked her if the previous items I got before she helped me were good for painting on leather sneakers. I explained to her that I wanted to customize my sneakers. Ashley said let me take a look, where I showed her the various paints & other items that I got. Ashley asked me a variety of questions about what I was trying to do with my customization & that's when I told her that I wanted a detailer brush among other items to paint some logos on my Louis Vuitton sneakers. I told her I did not want to ruin customizing the sneakers with the wrong items because they are so expensive, & there's a long waiting list to buy another pair due to my large feet & availability. Ashley thought tentatively looking over the items in which she told me not to purchase a large variety of them. She then recommended me suitable replacements that would be more beneficial for the work I was trying to do. I learned a lot & got a "refresher course" on many things such as the difference between sable & synthetic brushes along with their best case uses :) Ashley helped me for a long time as we traversed through the store getting items she recommended me to purchase. I was so blown away by Ashley's patience & knowledge that not only did I want to write a glowing Yelp review about my experience & her help, but I wanted to share it with the store manager as well. Ashley & I walked to meet the store manager (who warmly greeted me when I first entered the store, her name is Carol) in which I shared about the wonderful experience that I had with her. Ashley blushed as I gave Carol the rundown of my great experience, which I thought was cute (just as she is) :). Carol mentioned that Ashley is a great artist with ample knowledge about paints, brushes & etc. Carol provided me instructions (especially providing Ashley's full name as there are several Ashley's that work at the store) on how to leave feedback to Corporate about the phenomenal job Ashley did & the great experience she provided me. CONCLUSION: Great experience all around! I still have not finished customizing my Louis Vuitton sneakers due to time constraints (I'm a very busy man) but as requested by Carol & Ashley, when I finish customizing them I will visit the store & show them how it looks :) read more

I came here trying to see if they had Harry Potter glasses to complete my kid's costumes. When I arrived, the store was pretty empty for lunch hour. As I walked around the store looking for help, I couldn't find anyone. I've got even more frustrated after walking around the store three times to find help!!! I've picked out a few artificial flowers for my home and as I was about to head on over to the check out line, finally an associate shows up! I asked if they had the glasses, she said no. So, I was a little disappointed that I had wasted my lunch hour just waiting on someone just to tell me no. There should be associates out on the floor helping customers! I always enjoy a visit to a Michaels store whenever I get a chance. This place is a long distance from where I live, but Joe and I happened to be in the neighborhood. We were specifically looking for gold ribbon to add to our Halloween costumes, and not surprisingly, they had a large selection to choose from. I found this Michaels to be pretty well organized and fully stocked with everything one could possibly imagine to help the craft oriented person. You'll find candle making, soap making, painting supplies, wood working, artificial flower arrangements, jewelry creations, candy & cake decorating, wedding stuff, crocheting & knitting, and lots of household & seasonal decorations. I strongly recommend not using their framing department. I brought in two small pieces of artwork for framing. Both were framed crooked. I received a full refund on one piece of artwork and the other one was straightened out within the mat and frame. This should never happen in a framing department. If you cannot place a piece of artwork in the middle of the mat or ensure that the lines within the art are placed vertical and / or horizontal then you shouldn't be working in a custom framing department. I gave the department one star because the framing department manager was nice. read more

Don't offer curb side pick up if there isn't enough staff to support the service. I ended up being on hold for 20 minutes when I was able to go inside the store, while being on hold, grabbed my item and left within 10 minutes AND was still on hold. I get it, it's a crazy time with Covid. But how about y'all hire more associates? read more

When it comes to most Michael's stores, I just go for the convenience and not necessarily the service. This location does not stray too far from that mold. I recently had to run an errand for work and was looking for a specific item. I'm not stranger to Michael's stores so I can usually locate what I'm looking for with little assistance. However, I was in a hurry and decided to ask someone for help instead. First off, it took a while to find a sales person. Secondly, when I finally found one and asked her for help, she just started walking off. I wasn't sure if she was helping me or just walking away. When I caught up with her, she showed me what they had and when I asked for a more specific item, she just shrugged her shoulders and said, "That's all we have." No attempt at even some semblance of customer service. Sadly, this was not an isolated incident. in the end, I went to Hobby Lobby, which was my last resort. If I'm not able to get the service and products I want, then I will go to the competitor. Which is sad because this location is actually fairly organized and clean. I only knew of this Michaels location because I spotted it while pulling into the Natomas Marketplace at Truxel for a movie at the cineplex there. I searched forever and a day to find glass-etching paste before I asked for help. Then I realized my stubborn manly need to find it myself was indeed pointless... they keep this stuff under lock and key. It resides in a secret cabinet only Michael's employees know about. Apparently, it could be used for nefarious graffiti-like purposes, hence the high security measures. But they had it... since Michael's is THE Arts & Crafts Store. So go, be crafty. I needed art supplies badly. I had a mission to complete a painting for the new apartment and would need a pretty large canvas. The plus sides: 1. They had the canvas I needed and it was on sale 2. They have pretty much anything you need for basic art supplies 3. My bf found his can of spray paint he needed for his art 4. They have sales all the time (29 cents for candles!) 5. They send out coupons regularly The negative sides: 1. Customer service is lacking, no energy or enthusiasm from anyone 2. The store is a mess all the time 3. Depending on how you look at it--- I was overwhelmed with all their Christmas stock. Goodness, it's only the beginning of November and they already have their Christmas trees and lights on sale. I don't know how we would have survived 2020 without arts and crafts!! This Michaels is local to home and convenient with online ordering and fast in-store pick up. I learned how to cross stitch early on in the pandemic and got most of my supplies here!! There were endless supplies purchased to keep my two toddlers occupied and avoid having two stir crazy minions on my hands! Paints, canvases, slime supplies, baking supplies and decor!! This is for Deanne! Michaels recently moved over by Target on Gateway and she made my experience so smooth! I was shopping for my baby shower looking for a whole bunch of smal last minute things and if you've ever been to michaels you know how muxh stuff they have... everywhere! It's almost overwhelming. Anyways, I stopped Deanna about 4 times with "pop-quizzes" on where items were and each time she quickly led me to the location. She knew everything and was super nice! I went there to buy a Studio Decor Belmont black frame 24x36... they had one left without the wrapper. One lady who claimed she was the manager with the tattoo on the back of her neck and her jaw moving from side to side really fast, without looking at the frame closely, said it was not a Belmont.. she said it was Studio Decor which I already knew but for some she said it was not the same frame. She failed to realize that Studio Decor was the brand and Belmont was the model. Another clerk without doing any research sided with her and said it's not the same frame. A third clerk did her job and scanned the barcode and confirmed it was the same frame. Still the manager said it was not the same frame. At this point I realized the manager was just refusing to acknowledge the facts and didn't want to accept that she was wrong. It should be noted that this whole time the manager was refilling candy boxes and never once took the time to professionally research to verify if it was the same frame or not. Very unprofessional behavior from the manager and a very rude and confrontational personality. I will never return to this store. read more

Ordered a picture frame for curbside pick up. When I received the email see and click "On my way." I was notified that the curbside pick up was unavailable, even though it was within the curbside pick up time. When the item (Picture frame) was picked up at the store. The clerk gave me a broken picture frame that had 2 huge cracks in the glass. Very noticeable! I couldn't believe this store tried to pass off a broken item. I choose the pickup in store option, but since they are closed to the public, they bring it right out to my car with contactless delivery! TIP: If you shop here often, get the Michael's app and use the rewards coupons on there. They also have discounts for single items or for entire purchases. Ever since I started crocheting in January 2017, I have been frequenting this store a lot more, and I've never had a problem. They have a decent selection of yarns, although there aren't any of the hanks and higher quality yarns you find in a specialty store. But it's a great place for beginners to get their feet wet in. Their polymer clay selection is great, and pretty much everything else is well-stocked. The staff are nice, and the store is relatively clean, except during the holidays when you get a lot more people coming in for decorations and crafts. read more

It's hectic to get into the shopping center since there is really only one way in and one way out. Once you get to michaels is worth it. This store is nice and big without feeling too cramped. I was like a kid in the candy store with tons of crafts to pick from. In this trip I got one of those craft caddy's, I was excited that I finally have a nice sturdy cart that I can easily move from room to room. The only downside is that since it's an everyday deal no coupons are allowed. Even with that it didn't stop me from skipping to the car. The cashier that rang me up was nice it had started to rain and I was in heels. She actually let me take out one of the shopping carts so that I wouldn't have to struggle too much. Kinda torn. One time I came, the cashier was so nice and I had a great experience. This time I came and the cashier sounded like she hated her job and had to go through the greeting formalities. Also she didn't ask me if I wanted a bag for my basketful of items. To top it off as I was leaving, she said "don't forget to put away your basket." I've never been asked to do that before at any market or store. That's like asking a patron to wash their dishes after they finish a meal at a restaurant. The store is nice but you should probably retrain your weaker employees on better customer service. There's a reason your store is rated so low at this location.
