This is your regular old Michael's but the layout is a little different than other stores. I found what I came for and they had some great sales and clearance going on, but I refrained from going crazy. (I already did that at my Michael's a week ago!) I don't come to this one often and i was seriously disappointed to see that they did not have a banker's line here as at other Michael's. I asked about it and the cashier said that corporate did away with the banker's lines, so I'm worried that other stores will have the same issue. If that is true, it means back to HORRIBLE check out at Michael's. That might affect how much I go there. Which could be a good thing.. it will save me a FORTUNE! read more

I give 4 stars not for the customer service (the few times I asked for help, they weren't helpful) but because I can find everything and anything I am looking for my crafty needs. Which are a lot (remember this type of stores is not only for children, most adults attend the classes of diverse subjects, like mosaic, knitting, painting in wood, in clothes, etc etc). You don't find a Michaels type of craft store outside the US, at least I could never find this massive amount of crafting goodies at very reasonable prices. This is a paradise for my foreign friends when they want to shop papers for their scrap booking and I like to buy different stamps to create cool effects in my letters (yes, I still send letters, postcards and with nice handwriting and all! The only thing I prefer to buy cheaper (in Big Lots, for example) are the canvases. For the rest, Michaels makes me happy. read more

I've started coming here more and more for holiday decorations and other small crafting items. They have a big selection on different items that you're looking for. They have a pretty good selection when it comes to the holiday's. I recently bought a few Halloween items as well as Christmas decor from here. It can get pretty busy here at times. They always have good sales so check the website regularly to see if you can find your item on sale. The workers are friendly and help you out if you're looking for something in particular or just have an idea of what you're looking for. They usually have something that can work for your needs. I'll be coming back here for the next holiday and when I need to decorate something. Lots of cool project items you can find here if you want to make something fun. read more

My review is based on my experience today with kids crafts. The website said that the event went from 10-12, we arrived before 11:30 and were told that the class was over because the project takes time to make and that they stop new crafters at a certain time. absolute horseshit. and you lost a very large sale. i needed to price a custom frame for a very large painting as a wedding gift, and a few other things. i was ready to drop a few hundred dollars to get this job done professionally for my friend's wedding coming up this fall. first off; NOBODY was on the floor. i walked around the store no less than 4-5 laps trying to find stuff by myself. by the 3rd lap i was absently looking around the store for ANYBODY that looked like they fucking WORKED THERE. while STILL LOOKING. i saw a bunch of other people walking around looking lost and a few asked if i worked there. HA! i finally found someone absently sweeping in the back, and asked her if she knew where to look. i DONT think she knew what i was asking for but she didnt ask for clarification. and i dont think she was aware of how BUSY the store was because she went right back to sweeping after giving me false hope of where to look. when i give up and go to leave, i do see two employees at the checkouts. i saw them earlier but there was a long line and i didnt want to be rude. at this point though, im fucking pissed. i asked them if they had any employees out on the floor and they said "one". so i COULDVE robbed this store fucking blind today. and Little Sweep in the back wouldta known shit. and the two checkers up front were behind a long ass line of waiting customers, so they werent gonna come after me either. just sayin'. read more

I shop at this location at least once a month. Compared to the Clairemont Mesa and Mission Valley stores I think they are way better. The store has a better flow/layout, plenty of parking, and the staff is always helpful. On one trip I purchased all the ribbons of a particular color and the cashier was nice enough to call another store to find me some more and made sure they put exactly 20 on hold for me. This Michaels store is okay if you need something and know how to find it on your own. I've been shopping at this Michaels store on and off for about 13 years because it's around the corner from my house making it convenient. While they do have great deals and coupons, their customer service is awful. There is one woman who works there (and has worked there forever) that I seem to have an exchange with every time I shop at this store and she's just plain rude and lacking all customer service skills. I've noticed lately that the newer, younger employees are always very friendly and helpful, but they tend to usually only be at the cash register area, which unfortunately means you don't have them helping you while your shopping around the store. Michaels could use more floor people to help customers, but my main problem is this one woman who literally dodges you as soon as you make eye contact with her- literally every single time. And if you're lucky enough to stop her, she interrupts you or puts her hand up and gives a reason she can't help you and says she will be back--and then walks away never to return again. I've stood in aisles for longer than I'd ever care to admit waiting for her to return and didn't move out of fear she wouldn't be able to find me---and she's never once came back to help me. My daughter and I have started counting how many times she's either stopped us before we could speak, walked away as we were trying to ask her a question, or leaves us in an aisle and never returns and sadly, the number is ridiculous. Hey, I get it- retail is rough and most of us have been there. You're busy, tired, overwhelmed and running in a million different directions --but stopping a customer before they've even said anything is rude. So is walking away when a customer is talking to you. That one woman is the main reason I started shopping at different craft stores because it's just to the point of intolerable. If you can go somewhere else for your craft needs I recommend it. Or, just drive to the Escondido Michael's location. It's bigger, the staff are friendlier and don't treat you like you're a pain in the neck any (and every) time you have a question. read more

I would have given 5 stars for this store because of the great variety of the items and helpfulness of the floor staff. What tarnished their record is the male cashier (not meaning to be racial but he's Asian) who is clueless in bagging skills. He put my carousel (out of the box item) in the bag sideways, not upright! Same with my fragile items like nutcracker, cone tree, etc. These should have been wrapped in paper, at least if he wanted to put them all together in the bag. There is always enough parking which is an added bonus, and that location is by a coffee shop and some neat home furnishing stores so you can really spend a lot of time in the area. FIRST IMPRESSIONS: My local Michael's is far from the worst experience I've had at this chain, but I can't shake the feeling that most of the employees dislike their occupation. THE GOODS: Michael's has a large selection of arts and crafts supplies and is the go-to place when you catch the creative bug. However, come here prepared for a very binary experience. On the one hand, I've come in and been greeted, checked on at nearly every turn, and had a relatively pleasant experience with knowledgeable staff. On the other hand, I've come here on more occasions than seems prudent and have hardly seen a soul. Likewise, the foot traffic is equally binary. Sometimes it's packed, other times it's dead quiet. If you ever want to test your luck, try this store and see how much hair you have when you leave. THE VERDICT: When it's busy, it's crazy + there are never enough cashiers. Rarely have employees approach to check on my, even when looking lost. Frame shop is well stocked, decent prices. That's what I mainly shop for here anyway. read more

This store is a typical Michael's, except it seems a little more crowded/junky and they NEVER have the items I'm looking for. The ribbon selection sucks, and they are always out of the color I need. I was able to get my Gorilla Glue and "silk"/fake flowers in no time and I was out. The store seemed stocked to the gills, which made walking around a little difficult, but I managed. I've recently gotten into knitting, crocheting, and paracord bracelets. Michaels seems to have what I need every time I go. I love that you can go on your smart phone and get coupons ever time you go. My one complaint is the customer service. The employees never seem to be in a hurry. I've noticed helens attitude was very bad and humiliating towards me- I also noticed was so much tension in the class . she had an attitude all the time ONLY with me . I feel she was racist since I am from Persia . Also , she had so many students in the class that we could not even breath . The ART class is supposed to be FUN and NOT frustrating like her class . My review is limited, as It started as a simple phone call to see if they had silk poinsettias. (I needed a bunch to decorate my office) I phoned and asked if they carried them. I was put on hold for a very long time. (fine, I get it, you're going to see if you carry them) Another person finally picks up and asks if they can help me. I tell them I'm looking for silk poinsettias and I need 12 and do they have them. That person says she will check. 7 minutes later a third person picks up (I explain AGAIN) and she says, that they do have them and they can have them waiting for me. I was super annoyed, but the fact that she offered to have them waiting was really cool. I headed right over, and the place was packed. I noticed a shopping cart full of poinsettias and assumed it was mine. I got in line, paid, and asked the girl if she had a box or something I could use to hold them in the car. She offers me a bunch of plastic bags? I then asked again for a box. After waiting and waiting I said, I'll just go without. As I'm carting (full grocery cart) them out, an employee comes out of the store and says, "hey did you need this box?" It probably could have held 3 plants. I opted to go without the tiny box. Moral of the story is that the place had what I needed, they made an attempt at providing service, but left me somewhat annoyed. Oh my lanta... I don't think I've ever been so frustrated with this store. And not only with this store, but 2 other ones! First one I went to a couple days prior (poway), in a nut shell - a very unmotivated to work bunch. This one, I went with the app coupons, in particular- the one that listed 40% off a certain kind of brushes. I asked the first employee to point me in the direction of the brushes specified in then coupon. She first guessed that it was for all of the brushes in the aisle we were standing in, but assured me that she wasn't sure. When I asked her if she could check for me, the answer I received... "Oh, I can't take a whole bunch up to price check, that would take too long" :/ I asked of she could ask someone for assistance and she grabbed the manager, who proceeds to scan the brushes and and say "they're not coming up as, on sale" I then informed her that the couple is on my phone- and scanning it with the price gun, won't answer me question. Bottom line, they did not know. THEN, today, I went to the mission valley one. I was looking for clear sleeved for some greeting cards- the "wonderful" employee working in the stationary section said, they didn't carry that- only sleeves for scrapbook paper. (No hesitation and no offer to assist). I walked around a bit more, and Lo and behold... There they were. After finding her and reassuring her that they did in fact have them, i proceeded to check out. I'm not one for a pissy review for a store, but... Give me a break. Knowing the store (which isn't a Walmart) should be top priority, along with customer service. read more

The parking lot is a nightmare! It is designed so poorly and is like a maze. Add to that its small size and all of the businesses around, and it's a circle jerk. You've got Coffee Bean, Michael's, Payless, and Saks in this tiny lot. Get your walking shoes out because you're going to have to hike to your destination. The store itself is clean and organized. Those $1 bins have some steals in them! The staff leave quite a bit to be desired. They are pushy with getting you out the door and lack in the friendliness department. read more

I can never get any of my guys to want to enter the store with me. Sometimes if we're out and I'm with my husband and I say, "Hey baby I need something from Michael's" he'll come in with me, but if we're at home and I say, "Hey baby, I need something from Michael's" he'll say, "OK, drive safe!" This store is always stocked well, is sometimes messy, might be understaffed, but the cashiers are friendly, the people who work in the store are nice enough, and even if it's messy it's Michael's and for artsy fartsy types like me (even if I'm not really good at it) stores like this are always Christmas any day of the year. They're a bit on the higher end of the price point scale. I've found bead shops locally that have nicer beads for less, and I like to support small businesses, but for paints, pastels, coloured pencils, Michael's is always an inexpensive and fast fix. read more

We usually go here but after today, I think that is going to change. I don't ever write reviews but honestly we were so upset and shocked I feel it is appropriate. My sister and I were shopping and stepped and slipped in dog poop, honestly we were laughing about it because of course it would happen to us. My sister asked for help and we just sat there, the lady came back to clean up after her dog, but no one really helped us. We had to ask for stuff to clean our shoes because it was stuck in there. They gave us like three wipes each and that was about it. No one came to help after and when I asked for a bag they made it seem like it was our fault and saying there was a garbage outside. I wouldn't have been upset if we were given a little more help. This is probably why many stores don't like dogs inside. The only helpful person was the lady who hunted down the dog owner. read more

Alas my craft projects look like a 3 year old did them so I shall stick to a few bits here and there for my existing hobbies and not try to do things such as crochet and knitting.
