This is a nice neighborhood, bar and restaurant, but I find it disappointing that on Wednesday nights when they have burger specials for eight dollars, their veggie burgers remain at $14. I've been going there for years with friends on burger nights and the veggie burgers used to also be on special. Very weird place. Yes, we were there in-between their busy summer and leaf seasons but boy, we were sorry to have intruded. We're not even New Yorkers. Asked if outside seating was available. Host said yes but it might be a wait because he had to split his time. Sat us outside. 15 minutes later he came to tell us that if we wanted drinks we'd have to go to the bar to order, if we wanted food we'd get it in a box. Ok. Went to get drinks where staff members were saying someone was upset that there were people seated outside. Great. That's why we go to a restaurant-we enjoy pissing off the staff and prefer to get our lunch in a cardboard box (didn't order any food, payed up and escaped out the back before we upset anyone else with our patronage). Oddly, the host brought water and silverware outside while I was at the bar. Had a wonderful dinner at Hancock Shaker Village that evening. Everyone was so friendly and welcoming. They do dinners 4x/yr. Not even a restaurant, but they seem to know something about how to treat people. read more

I am writing to you as a tourism professional whose company visits the Berkshires often. We had a tour group visit Tanglewood on Parade last week. Naturally, our people loved Tanglewood, Chesterwood and the Botanical Gardens. However, we had the worst restaurant experience in 45 years of business. Our group had a dinner reservation at Michael's in Stockbridge. Despite careful planning on our part, numerous emails with Michael (the owner) , and 2 visits to the restaurant prior to our reserved time, the restaurant was totally unprepared. I showed the staff a table chart Michael had sent me. They had never seen it and were not briefed about it. Tables were not set based on the chart  I received. The worst part of the evening was that  they actually ran out of food, shrugged their shoulders, and never resolved the issue. They had entree counts in advance. We actually came in with 3 less people and they still were 3 dinners short. They ran out of spoons, and served hot water without tea bags. How does a restaurant run out of food (pre-ordered) spoons, and tea bags? While the quality of food is subjective, there was total consensus that the food was horrible. I asked to speak with Michael but he was nowhere to be seen. I was told by staff that he is never there when groups are scheduled. Michael basically told me that I picked the "bus tour" menu so what do I expect. Our people were on a bus tour! Regardless of the price, the food should be fresh and tasty.  When I  emailed Michael,  his answer to me was exactly the same he gave to another complaining customer - "we have been in business for 43 years". I have been in business for 45 years. My reputation and customer's trust in our company still remain our highest priority. Please do not recommend this restaurant to anyone! read more

This restaurant is a typical mediocre American reastaurant serving heavy, oversized portions of bland food amidst depressing decor. I think they survive by simply being always open and not charging the sky high prices of better, neighboring restaurants. read more

One star is because I'm feeling generous. Otherwise, this is when you wish Yelp allowed for partial stars. Wow, where to start? Let's start with the terrible greetings (none!) upon entering and waiting to be acknowledged by a "hostess" who clearly did not want to be working (and should not be the one welcoming guests). She simply made you feel like you were an intrusion of sorts and was clearly irritated that anyone would dare to inquire about a table. When we inquired about the wait time, the answer kept changing and we were blamed for not being very clear with her about our inquiry. Rolling her eyes at us was especially endearing. That should have been our clue to run but we were limited in options. We took a booth in the bar and crossed our fingers. Mediocre food awaited us including institutional pre-frozen veal parm, something attempting to be a Caesar salad but was basically salad greens plopped onto a dinner plate with a few croutons and old shredded parm cheese and, a Cobb salad with about a half pound of red onions. The extra treat was having to ask for silverware several times and then having it tossed in a heap onto the middle of the table for us to sort. I grew up in Stockbridge many years ago and am fairly sure this place survives only because tourists and locals alike want an alternative to the Red Lion or driving to GB. You can overlook the drab atmosphere if perhaps there was a warm and friendly staff or the food was slightly better than poor, but all three combined is just a reason to kick yourself for not having turned around and walked out at the first "roll of the eyes" and smarmy answer the hostess gave us. Drive the extra 10 minutes to GB, Lenox or Lee. It's more than worth it to avoid this "restaurant/disaster". read more

We decided to give Michael's a try even though the reviews were not so good. The waitress was very friendly but the only one working on a Sunday night. She was trying her best but was having trouble keeping up. Not her fault they should have had more help. She was actually running around. Our appetizer was a flat bread pizza that came to the table cold. We could have returned it but We were both so hungry we just ate it. It tasted good but we were definitely disappointed it was cold. We both had the eggplant parmigiana and that was hot and very good. Would have given 5 stars if the appetizer wasn't cold. read more

If you fancy yourself the next Kelly Clarkson or Carrie Underwood , then Michael's is your place on a friday nite. "The Big Show" used to be there every friday with his Karoake gear, although now their website says there is a new host, KJ Treme Sean Conin ready to showcase area "talent". I haven't been there in a few months, so I cannot attest to how "good" the new guy is. I have always had a great time when I've been there. We have always gone with a very large group of friends, and for dinner and drinks. Their late night menu is fairly decent pub food, with everything from wings to potato skins, mozzerella sticks, salads, burgers and wraps. This menu is fairly priced, as are the drinks, which come in 16 or 32 ounce glasses (in case you wanna drink beer and pump up your biceps at the same time). The have a pretty impressive beer selection and always have drink specials which helps you get your extra courage up so you can make a fool of yourself with everyone else. The best part is watching all the wanna-be- American- Idol contestants belting it out for anyone who will listen...and you don't have much of a choice. You have to scream to talk to your neighbors when Karoake is going strong. Overall, a good time and makes for an entertaining evening. read more

Service is the first thing to stand out here. Staff is extremely friendly and accommodating. We sat outside and had drinks. The menu had many choices. My dad and I went here for burgers and beers! They have a special and certain nights one is 6.50 for a burger and fries with two toppings added to your burger. I ordered mine medium rare with bacon and fried jalapeños. Came out cooked perfect and it had just the right amount of heat. This place is a locals hangout pretty much... My daughter and I stopped here December 4 for lunch. It was very crowded, so we sat at the bar. The bartender was on the ball;she took care of everyone quickly. Michael's is a hit or miss experience. Last night was a total disappointment. I ordered the French onion soup to start. When it arrived, the top of the melted cheese was covered with chopped scallions??? In my 60+ years, I have never had chopped scallions on top of French onion soup, Not needed and not pleasant. The broth was pretty much flavorless. I also ordered the Fettuccini Alfredo. It arrived warm (not hot) and a bit coagulated. But the horror came when I tasted it and it was EXTREMELY garlicky. (Who adds garlic to Fettuccini Alfredo ???) When I called the waitress over to tell her that the fettuccini was inedible she immediately said "was it too garlicky?" So she knew already and this was probably a common complaint. She took it back and I ordered an Asian salad w/ salmon.I figured they could not screw up too bad with that. It took so long to get the salad that when it came, I asked for a to go box. When I got home to eat, I realized that the "dressing" was not salad dressing but a side of a very thick sweet teriyaki basting sauce. ‍ To the restaurant's credit, she did not charge for the returned Fettuccini and took $5 off the entire bill. My husband ordered the chicken parm, from the looks and taste of it, it was obvious that it was a frozen entree. When we went to pay, the young woman at the register apologized about the garlicky fettuccini and stated that this was feedback she had heard before. She also mentioned that the other night the special was a Lentil soup that EVERYONE who ordered it, sent it back because it was way over salted. ‍ if customers keep complaining about the food, why are adjustments not being made in the kitchen? read more

Michael's needs a major overhaul of its decor, and a bit of tweaking, but there were also some highlights. We were seated quickly, but it took a while until the server actually came by the table. We were there for lunch and on a bit of a time crunch, but the waitress assured us that the food would arrive in a timely manor - it came in time (barely) so don't go if you're expecting a quick meal! Some things were freshly made, some were clearly frozen (don't order the onion rings) We ordered one of the specials and the wrap was great, the chips that came with it were stale. Never got any refills of basic drinks, but again friendly waitress and so with a bit of tweaking this place could be something special - especially considering it's location! read more

Truly one of the worst meals I have been served in a long time. Lunch. Saturday July. I had the chicken Mexican soup. Not so great. Had a lot of veggies and somehow the chicken in the soup managed to be dry. That was a feat not seen before The Caesar salad was made with bitter old Romain. My husbands so called chicken Rueben was all over the place. Poor presentation. I E you could not hold it in order too eat it. The sauce was overwhelming. The cheese barely melted. We just received a gift card from the Oak and Spruce resort in Lee, Massachusetts to dine at Michaels in nearby Stockbridge. The restaurant has nice ambience and a varied menu of dinner items many of them pasta and seafood. The wait staff were pleasant and courteous. The dining area was quiet and a nice area to enjoy dinner and conversation. I ordered the seafood scampi which had Mussels, Shrimp, and Scallops. The scampi arrived with a nice presentation, The Mussels, Shrimp, and Scallops were arranged nicely on a plate. The problem was none the seafood was cooked in the broth. Just placed on top with no flavor. It was like they were heated in a microwave and placed on top of the pasta. The scampi broth was very thin and bland. There was a little minced garlic placed on top of the pasta but not mixed in to add any flavor to the sauce. The pasta was a little over done therefore soft. The sauce was so thin it would not adhere to the pasta. My wife ordered the Scallops and Shrimp Carbanaro. It was supposed to come with a Parmesan Cream Sauce with Bacon and Roasted Red Peppers. Once again the presentation of the dish was nice. As with the scampi the seafood was just placed on top and was tough. The Roasted red pepper was just a chopped red bell pepper. There was no taste of Parmesan in the sauce which again was very thin and would not adhere to the pasta. The Bacon was good and helped add some flavor. My wife also had the French Onion soup. Once again nice presentation but very little flavor. The side salads were very good with excellent Bleu Cheese dressing. We requested some bread with our meals and we were served warm fresh bread which was also very good. The problem was there was only one small slice per person and they put the warm bread on top of the butter so we poured the butter onto the bread. The waitress asked how things were and I stated how disappointed we were with the flavor of our entree's. She was polite, apologized and deducted ten percent from the bill. We took the remaining portion home with us with hope that I could add some spices and enhance the flavor. read more

Despite the slew of overwhelmingly negative reviews we thought we might give Michael's a try as it seemed to be the only reasonably priced place in town on a snowy night. But we should have heeded the advice of others and stayed away. Ambiance - 3 Stars It was dark in there, as if to set the ambiance of a fine dining establishment but the rowdy bar crowd in the room next door frequently took us back to reality. The music playing set the same tone, but again was plagued with the reality of the establishment as after every song a loud an intrusive commercial blared across the otherwise empty dining area. Food - 2 Stars The appetizers were mediocre - French onion soup for her was like sautéed onions covered in beef broth right out of the can and nuked in the microwave until the lump of cheese on top melted enough to serve. We split an order of the stuffed mushrooms which were rather tasty, but covered in some bizarre brown beef gravy. For the main course I ordered the Thai Salmon, and I wish I hadn't. The broccoli was one large crown still with leaves intact as if to tell the world "I'm fresh, definitely not frozen" and the rice pilaf, although flavorful, strongly resembled something we cooked in the microwaveable bag a couple nights earlier. The salmon itself was drowning in sesame seeds and drier than cardboard - I have never had crunchier salmon! Thank goodness for the side of dipping sauce or the whole thing would have been inedible. She had the Chicken Carbonara and although the sauce was quite flavorful, the overall experience was just OK. The whole dish became cold quite quickly as she struggled through the tough, dry chicken which made us wonder how long it had been sitting, waiting to be delivered to our table. Perhaps the saving grace was their list of craft beers and IPAs on tap, but do have a back-up in mind as my first choice was not available and the list did not appear to be current. Service - 3 Stars Our server was kept busy playing hostess and waiting on the bar patrons as well, perhaps an instrument of the snowy weather more than by design. She was kind and was prompt with our drinks and food. Overall, we would not recommend this place for food, unless like us you are naive and hoping to have the one good dining experience this restaurant so desperately needs. read more

I am rounding up from two and a half stars. Michael's lost points right off the bat when it became apparent that our table hadn't been cleaned between customers. Ick. I was somewhat surprised by how dated the interior was, and how "blah" the menu was, given the restaurant's location in Stockbridge center and the fact that the surrounding shops seemed to be somewhat high end. I ordered a turkey BLT, and the turkey itself seemed super processed and not particularly high quality. It tasted alright, but for $9 I'd like more than a half-step above Lunchables meat. French fries ran an additional dollar, and they were crispy but a bit greasy. Another reviewer said Michael's "lacks energy," and I think that's a fair assessment. However, if you're just looking for a quick lunch and your expectations aren't terribly high, you could probably do worse. read more

We eat here almost every tine we are overnight in Stockbridge. The food at Michaels has much more variety for our family than the fancy dining at the Inn next door. One time when Michaels was very busy the hostess saved us a lot of time by letting us know right up front that they'd be delayed in serving us. While some may take that as a negative we appreciate the honesty and didn't stay - but have since returned. There are two dining areas - the bar area has several booths (and the bar) and the outer dining room has booths and tables. We usually sit in the outer dining room. Have not noticed any dirtiness or dated interior. We've eaten here probably 6 to 8 times overall. read more

The food here is good but experience is everything and ours was terrible. Came here with a party of 7 and was seated at a table with no overhead lights on. We had to find a light switch ourselves. Then it took 10 minutes for someone to take our drink order even though the place was mostly empty. Our waitress never told us any of the specials and we only ended up overhearing that there were specials when a different waiter told them to a table near us- after we had already ordered our dinners. You could die of starvation while waiting for service. After a 20 minute wait I asked the hostess if someone could please wait on us. She seemed unconcerned but promised to take care of it. Ten minutes later we're still waiting. If it wasn't pouring rain outside, we'd walk. So about 35 minutes after we entered the restaurant, with about a quarter of the dining room tables vacant, the waitress finally arrived to take our order. The lunch menu is mostly soup, sandwiches, and burgers; we both ordered soup and half sandwiches. Theoretically this shouldn't take too long... It's been an hour and a bit now and still no food. How long does it take to prepare soup and two half sandwiches with no lettuce or tomatoes??? At least there's free WiFi so I can write this review. So an hour and fifteen minutes after we arrived, the waitress finally brought the food. And promptly spilled the soup into my beer. She warned us that the soup was very hot. It wasn't, which makes me wonder how long it had been sitting. I paid the check and we fled into the rain. read more
