Another great nite at Michael's"s.. We typically come in for a few drinks or glasses of wine and some pizza..Pizza is simply amazing.. You will not find better in the area. If your lucky you 'll be served by Christine at the bar and although is is busy...she will take care of you. You have to respect there is only one bartender and they might be busy. If you chose to sit, you will have an very nice dinner. Granted the service is somewhat slow but the food is good and if you choose a nice bottle off their wine menu it shouldn't matter. They always have bottle specials on the board. And the glasses are at a very reasonable price. read more

This restaurant was recommended by a hotel receptionist. I arrived after 7pm to a packed house. Service took some due to the number of people, but it was reasonable. The bread was hot and the oil dipping mixture was very tasty. The chicken parmesan was good, but a bit small. We drove by the restaurant many times and always wanted to try it, we were very exited about the reviews. We're new to the area and finding a good Italian restaurant is a priority for us. The bread was really good and the olive oil with garlic and herbs was delicious. It's started going badly when my husband's beer tasted funny, we looked at the bottle expiration date and it expired Oct 2016, almost 5 months ago! the app was ok, we ordered fried mozzarella which was more like a grilled cheese on slightly burnt bread, but the tomato sauce was good (still, a little better than a Pizza style restaurants) The salads that came after were plain and bland, the balsamic dressing was terrible. I ordered the chicken Marsala and my husband ordered the artichoke chicken, both sauces were watery and the Penne pasta was bland because of that. My chicken Marsala was so slimy I had to spit it out (so did my husband after trying it). Even worst than the food being average minus to bad, when I returned the chicken, the manager (I assume) who came to our table barely apologized and said "the chicken was fine" before offering something else which made me want to leave and never look back! The only good thing other than the bread was the service, our waitress very sweet and professional, but unfortunately that is not a good enough reason to return and definitely not worth the price. read more

Went there last Saturday night on a date with my boyfriend we got sat right away with our reservation .. our server I wish I could remember her name .. maybe brittany (not sure)... she had glasses and was waiting on the 5 tables in the room we were in .. she was so great .. great service and we love the bread(oil) and she gave us some to take home ! Had a great meal before the Jackson Browne show tonight. The Tuna appetizer and the fried Calamari were excellent and the fresh mozzarella & tomato too. The salads & soup (Italian wedding) were very good too. All four of our entrees were excellent as well. My wife loved the scallops and my Chicken Marsala was very good too. Michael's is one of the best restaurants in Wallingford. Their food is consistently wonderful, their waitstaff is friendly and the ambiance is great. It has the feel of a "fancy pants" restaurant without all the stuffiness! I highly recommend their crab cake appetizer and for dinner anything with their Alfredo sauce is delicious (of course, everything that I've tried has been quite good). If you live in the area or are travelling through, Michael's should definitely be on your places to eat list! read more

Good food at a decent price but the atmosphere leaves A LOT to be desired. Very TACKY. They do a pretty good business so you think the owner would invest a little back into the place. Took my inlaws out for a birthday dinner. Arrived at 6:50, ordered the fried calamari (and the dinners) and drinks to start. It was very good. Then out came salads. And then nothing. Every table in the dining room turned over while we waited. Finally saw the waiter, and asked about the food. He came back several minutes later and said the food would be out in 5 minutes. 10 minutes later, with no food and no communication, I asked the hostess for the check. The manager then came over, comped the little we had, and said it was unacceptable service. Nearly 2 hours to have an appetizer and a side salad. I was upset but accepted the apology and the comp, which was appropriate to offer. But then the manager said it was because the kitchen was backed up. That killed it since literally 7 other tables were seated after us and left before us. Admit that someone didn't put in the ticket, and never checked on the table for an hour. 3 salmon dinners and 2 pasta dinners are not complex, time-consuming dinners. I've had the food in the past, and it was very good. But this is the first time I've ever left a restaurant because the service was so poor. read more

I made my fifth straight visit to Michael's last night. I had what I've eaten each time I went, Chicken Parmigiana. It's actually very good. I typically just have water when I'm eating dinner, but I decided to have a Coke yesterday. Half way through my meal, Carlos my waiter asked me if I wanted another Coke, I replied sure. Fountain pop costs pennies. To my dismay he charged me for a second drink. I've never been to a restaurant that charged for a refill on fountains drinks. I've been there five straight weeks and yesterday was officially my last. How freaking cheap to charge for a refill on a fountain drink. That act cost you a customer Michael's. I hope Carlos is proud of himself. I asked the people I'm consulting with here in Connecticut if that is common here and they said no. Shame on you Michael's. I hope you feel it was worth. I'll continue to survey Connecticut residents whether or not this is common here. Classless. No more business from me. They're unapologetic and patronizing. Watch out for hidden charges people. read more

My husband and I had dinner Friday January 22. We were celebrating our 40th anniversary. Everything was delicious. We were well greeted. Brought to a table in the front, it felt special. Started with clams casino. Yummy. Hubby had smoked salmon. He loved it. The warm bread was nice, and that dipping oil was to die for. The veal scallopini was absolutely perfect. Food was good-spicy calamari was ok, but a bit chewy. Their bread is awesome but olive oil bottle was cloudy and sticky and the oil had little flavor but all kinds of herbs in it. I had the chicken spinach alfredo and it was very good and nicely balanced. My husband had the chicken alla vodka and that was very tasty! We had the lava cake for dessert and it was yumm!! Biggest downfall that may limit our return was the rip off on drinks. We both had mixed drinks (name brand liquor w/soda) and when we got the bill it had a $2 per drink 'rocks' charge. Drinks were already 7 and 8 bucks!! I asked and the waiter did not know but asked management who said its a charge for drinks with ice as they have to put more liquor in. WTF is that nonsense??? My husband and I came here on our first date and after we "eloped" and now for my 67th birthday. We live 45 minutes away however I wanted to go back for my birthday to see if it was still as good as I remembered. Well, our entrées were just as good however, our waitress, Kelley, failed to tell us about the specials, until we asked her about them we she only told us about the two entrées, with no description and failed to tell us about the appetizer special and soup special. We had to ask for bread and that was good. Overall, had it not been for Kelley's probably poor training or lack of experience, our dinner was fine. (We heard about the other specials when we overheard a different waitress telling her guests what was on special this evening. ). I would have skipped the below average calamari and had the arancini. Unfortunately I have to give this spot I had loved 1 star. Tonight my boyfriend and I had waited over an hour after our pick up time for our take out. Usually I would of been patient but I had watched other patrons sit down while I was there and receive their food before us. We paid immediately at the bar they decide to wait until about 20 minutes after our 3 item (simple 2 regular penne and a medium cheese pizza) that they were just starting our order. When we nicely told the waitress how long we had been waiting she said to me "yeah well it's being made now" and walked away. RUDE. We waited almost another 30 minutes for food and when we got it home (we live under five minutes away) it was all cold!!!! The pasta was bland and inedible and the pizza was covered in too much sauce to the point everything fell off the pizza in the box. When we called to explain that our 60 dollar order was cold and inedible alls we got was "we can knock a few dollars off" or a gift certificate. We don't want to return after this and you would think they would offer a full refund in order to keep the customers happy. Will never again recommend this restaurant or return!!! read more

I was here for the first time on Saturday afternoon.There was 4 of us and everyone agreed that this place is very good. The cold seafood salad was very good. The shrimp cocktail was served with cocktail sauce and another sauce that was creamy and was very good. The sausage soup was so good we purchased 2 orders to take home. We sat in the bar area and the barmaid was very friendly and one of the many reasons why we will be back. The only negative thing is that we have waited so long to come here. read more

Drove up from Bridgeport for lunch on Veterans day with my father.Nice Italian restaurant in the center of Wallingford.Started off with warm fresh bread with homemade olive oil for dipping the bread.My father got swordfish puttanesca,with olives capers and plum tomatoes.Portion was big for lunch.He said it was delicious.I ordered penne with sausage, roasted red peppers ,basil and plum tomatoes.Also gigantic portion.Nice rustic interior,and old world feel.Mallory,our waitress was a sweetheart.Well worth drive,we will definitely be back. read more

Had a terrific dinner Saturday night. Our waiter Carlos was helpful in guiding us through the specials for the evening. I chose the crab cake special app and it was two large cakes loaded with crabmeat. My husband had the tomato and fresh mozzarella app. It was too much for him to finish. For my main course I had the shrimp scampi. It was very good but I missed seeing pieces of garlic. Husband had one of the dinner specials of roast pork and broccoli rabe. The pork was shredded but he enjoyed it. All entrees come with a very good salad and hot bread with your own cruet of olive oil. Bathroom situation consists of 2 single bathrooms on the very small side. You will have to wait when it gets crowded. Every time we visit Wallingford we make it a point to dine here. read more

Which is about the time we were there on a Saturday night for our meal. I ordered veal saltimbocca. The melted mozzarella was so over melted it was like eating sticks. Not sure how this place continuously receives good ratings...Went here the other night after reading these comments, thinking I would leave the restaraunt happy and content. Wrong. I ordered the meatballs for an appetizer, where they were cold and over cooked/hard. Literally hard as a rock. The marinara was also cold. Then the salad came out. The chickpea to lettuce ratio was totally off, where it looked like I ordered chickpeas on a plate, rather than a salad. The menu was bland. It consisted of Italian dishes you can get anywhere: chicken Marsala, piccata, Parmesan, etc. Nothing special. I got a steak with cold mashed potatoes I couldn't eat and green beans that looked like they were first grilled then sat out for a long time. I gave the mashed potatoes back, where the waitress brought back a new dish of mashed potatoes clearly microwaved since the whole plate was hot as it can be...Overall, the waitress could not remember what we ordered, she came back at least twice to remind her what people ordered.
