Not sure if it's due to covid or if it's just this location, but they are definitely short staffed. I came here on a Sunday to buy cake pans. Luckily they were all on sale for 40% off. I stood in line socially distancing on their markers. The line continued to get longer and longer. Then I realized there was only one cashier. They finally called for another cashier and then there were two cashiers. The line was still really long and moving really slowly. I stood in line longer than it took me to grab my items. The cash registers have plexiglass barriers and cashiers are wearing masks. Note that their bathroom is super gross and hasn't been cleaned in forever. I would hold it or go somewhere else. On my second trip to Michael's on a Wednesday I decided to order online and then do curbside pickup. They received my order just around opening time but didn't start processing it till a couple hours later. A few hour after that of waiting I decided to call the store and check on it. They told me it would be ready in 20 minutes. So basically it took them 5+ hours to get my order ready (only 4 items). I received an email with instructions saying to call when you arrive. There are stalls directly in front of the store next to the handicap stalls. Just drive down the first row facing the store. There was a man that ended up coming to my car before I could even call and he asked for my ID. He then went to get my items and brought it back to my car. Both visits were a little crazy. I'm just gonna say that I think it's due to not having enough staff, but I could be wrong. Hopefully they get more people on board so they can help customers on a timely basis. read more

With a little of everything laid out in an organized fashion this store has pleasantly surprised me each time I've come looking for some random item. Compared to other large box store craft stores it's the customer service that earns my five stars. They patiently assist you with their app to insure you are getting all the discounts possible. They answer questions kindly and are willing to help you search for items if needed. For those of you in a hurry they have many self check out registers available as well. There is always a large variety of seasonal items, but that doesn't mean they decrease regular stock items either. I've been to many different Michael's, in many different cities, but this particular store's consistent outstanding customer service made me stop during my busy day to give it a much deserved shout out. Michael's has been a favorite of mine for close to 20 years, but a recent experience at this store has soured me on the company. I'm writing this review to hopefully save someone else the stress and waste of time I've had to endure. The main point is that this store has issues with its POS terminals, and if you're not careful it could lead to you getting ripped off. Apparently, they can freeze up mid transaction - at least that's what happened with me. The terminal froze while I was paying, so they asked me to move to a different one, where they could ring me up again. I mentioned that I'd already entered my PIN at the previous register and it froze after that, but they told me not to worry, that it should unfreeze in a moment or two and that they'd just cancel that purchase then. I was of course not comfortable with walking away with only a promise that someone would cancel the redundant charge if it did go through, but when I expressed concern over leaving it open like that I was told my only other option was to sit there and wait for the terminal to come online again. By her tone, it was clear the person helping me was annoyed that I was wary about the situation, and it was a Saturday morning and I'd already been standing there for 20 minutes and had a lot to do, so I begrudgingly took their word for it and left. Well, it turned out I was charged twice and when I discovered it and reported it to Michael's neither the store manager nor Michael's corporate customer service were willing to do much about it. In fact they insisted that I was only charged once even though I had my bank verify I was indeed charged twice. When I first noticed the double charge both of the charges said they were pending and I was assured by the store manager when I called that after a couple days only one of the charges would remain. But, after waiting a few days I checked again and both charges had gone through. So then after calling the store yet again I was told I needed to call Michael's customer service to get it sorted out. I ended up spending about another 90 minutes or so on the phone over multiple calls with Michael's customer service only to get repeatedly told that there was no problem and that I was only charged once. I'm not sure what's up with their systems, but they were wrong and in the end, I had to submit a dispute for the bad charge with my bank, which they honored and refunded to me. So keep this in mind when shopping at a Michael's store. read more

Good hell went to buy a shadow box. Shelf said 24.99 rang up 34.99. Walked back w an employee who said to go back up front for my refund. Some guy couldn't figure it out. Kept trying to charge me MORE because at 24.99 without the coupon it was more! He couldn't get my coupon to work "again". He kept looking at me like he thought I'd actually pay more for it. I laughed and asked for a manager. It's not hard! He finally told me to come back another day! Wouldn't sell me the shadow box! Lol I asked for the manager, and he said he was the manager. My wife and I received a flyer in the local newspaper about a Christmas Tree sale this weekend. We went on Friday evening to to the Mill Plain store to enjoy the sale. We picked the tree and learned: - They only had the display! - They offer no additional discount for the display. So, if parts are missing or broken, so sorry! - We could pay for it; however, they can't take it down until the following day! - They may not have the box! So, you stuff it the car and hope it makes the journey? This store is destined for the extinction. A total waste of time to bother going. How many times have you been in Michaels and needed to find a certain product. You wander for a bit before deciding to ask an employee, except you can't find one of those either. So you wander and wander until you eventually find what you need, you become frustrated and leave, or you wait in the long check-out line to ask one of the people who are supposed to be ringing people up. This is my typical experience at Michaels. Imagine my surprise and delight when, on my most recent trip, an employee was there to help me as soon as I needed help! Granted, the didn't have the item I needed - blank recipe cards - but the employee knew right away that they didn't have them and explained that they did have nice cardstock and I might be able to make my own. This is exactly what I ended up doing and they turned out great! The same employee also helped me locate an online coupon I could apply to my purchase. So nice! read more

Love this craft store. I live a lot closer to Joann's fabric store, but I prefer to shop at Michael's a lot more. Whenever I go, I usually make sure I pull up a coupon because some of their stuff can be quite pricey (which is why I give them four out of five stars). The staff is very nice and helpful though (most of the time). I definitely prefer this store over Joann's or craftwarehouse. I stopped in today and their Christmas seasonal items were 70 percent off. I shop at this location regularly and I've never had any problems... that is until I witnessed something absolutely appalling today. While waiting in line I watched as one of the women on the registers picked up the phone and called over the loudspeaker for "loss prevention". Anyone who's worked in retail knows what that means. I proceeded to watch her looking at someone and a male employee quickly move in that direction. Then it became very obvious who she called for and who they were watching... a young black couple browsing the store with their young kids. I was absolutely shocked! I've been a long time Jo Ann's shopper so my visits here are fairly rare. I much prefer Michael's selection of painting supplies, and the fact that their store is organized pretty well. Aside from that there aren't many positives in my book. Some of their prices are better than other craft stores, but I don't like that you can't stack coupons like you can at many other craft establishments. Help is very hard to find at this store and on my most recent visit, my cashier was extremely snobby towards me when I asked a couple questions about coupons. Their scrapbooking section is magnificent. There are all different kinds of papers, stickers, albums, glue, etc. If you need it, Michaels most likely has it. I like that they offer crafting classes during the holidays to make different styles of décor. Also, you'll most likely never pay full price. I am so grateful for the employees that helped me today. I am a mom, just started school an interior design program, and had a little over an hour before work when I went in there today. I had a full list of materials (most things I had never heard of, and without help would have spent hours on a goose chase through the store) I needed for my art class that starts tomorrow and 2 gentlemen helped me go through the whole list and find everything. I am usually the girl to deny help when asked in a store but I was genuinely on a time crunch and because of them I was in and out of there in about 30 minutes. I should have gotten their names, but they know who they are if they're reading this. The store was busy, and they had no idea I was on my 6th day of work in a row and that was my only opportunity all week to get that before my deadline tomorrow morning. The requirement for employee masks is not absolute and I have seen managers at this location wearing masks incorrectly. If masks aren't being worn properly by employees I would wonder how serious the rest of the COVID precautions are being taken. read more

Framing was a REALLY expensive soup sandwich. Failed to call us when the 3 large framework jobs were ready, then when we got there two weeks later -- a 30 minute drive-- they told us the framed paintings "just" arrived. (Well how about that?) Then they said one of the frames was damaged ("We tried to call you." Yeah, right.), and we would have to wait another two weeks for the fix. We took two paintings home, only to discover that they didn't even put the wiring on the backs. So two weeks later I called about the last painting, to find out why we hadn't heard from them, and I was told the last one "just" arrived. (What a coincidence!) Drove over to pick it up and asked if they remembered the wiring. "Yep sure did." It wasn't until we got home that we discovered they put the wiring on the wrong side of the painting. You just can't make this stuff up! I'm done with that place. read more

Very disappointed in their cake decorating class.. My sister and I signed up for the cake decorating class and when we came for our first class, nobody was there so we asked one of the employees what's going on and they said that they cancelled the class. My sister and I were both very mad because they never contacted us of a cancellation, like they said they would of they were cancelled. So we drove all the way there and we're stuck in traffic just to get there to find out it's cancelled! The employee told us that if we wanted to get refunded, WE had to call in and get our money back!' Excuse me!! I really want to like Michael's! They have a pretty good selection of, well, everything. Prices are decent and it's close to my house. And it's a craft store. I love craft stores. But! Why, oh why do they seem to be so understaffed? On most days, the line is very long with several check out stations unoccupied. There are rarely any employees out on the floor who are available to answer questions. Customers shouldn't have to roam the entire store searching for someone to ask questions to... And end up finding no one. They just don't seem to be very efficient. There isn't anyone out in the store available to answer questions AND there aren't enough cashiers at check out stations. It can be quite frustrating and can make the shopping experience at Michael's a rather unpleasant one at times. read more

I used to shop here fairly frequently for framing supplies. I purchased a $200 item recently and found out later I did not need it. "No problem" I thought, "Michaels has good customer service, I'll return the item with the original receipt, unused and I should be good to go". I had an emergency which made it impossible to return the item within the allotted window--but it was only one day late, I thought "surely I'd at least get credit". When I explained my situation to the store manager, the attitude they projected was essentially: let's look for reasons to deny you service, than: what can we do to help the customer. She then suggested I try to sell the item second hand through social media as if she'd hit a customer service home run. I will not be visiting this store again. read more

I don't like THIS specific Michaels store. I haven't been to the ones in Portland, but I will defiantly be going there for now one. I've had TWO bad experiences at this store. Their higher position employees have their power way over their heads. I bought ALOT of stuff in one transaction and forgot that I had gift cards. I assumed I would be able to return everything and repurchase them on a gift card without having to being back EVERYTING I bought because I kept the receipts. So I go to the store, the lady there says she can not do it without the store managers approval, he wasn't working there that day so she left him a note for him to call me back. Two days later and he never called back, I called the store and they said he wasn't working today and they did leave a note on his desk. So i said whatever, I'll take the hassle and time to just go to the store in portland and get refunded for tax. Second time, I bought gift cards from ebay and wanted them on a NEW merchandise return card because of the many scams you hear of people writing the code and pin number down and using the card like that and whatnot. So I bought some stuff with my cards, then asked if I could return everything, the assistant manager said I would have to put it back on one of the cards I already have and literally said "As the assistant manager it is my call not do to this". Really? How difficult is it for you just to put the credit on a NEW card just so I could have a peace of mind? read more
