I come here a couple times a week (crocheting a very large blanket). Today, I asked to use the restroom. The young lady who helped me was very nice. The bathrooms however...yuck! For a two stall room with a key code you would think otherwise. One stall was completely clogged...imagine the smell. The 2nd was scary, but useable. Trash can full, toilet paper everywhere! Okay, whatever. Get to the cashier and he scans my stuff quick, and then tells me my total all the while he's looking to his right...not at me. No hi, nothing. After he says my total he starts to say something else...but not to me. Couldn't tell...he was just talking to me...I think. Or the person next to him's total was $5.46. Anyways, receipt comes out he grabs it hands it to me....finally looks at me...and says "here ya go" and calls for the next guest. What the hell? How are you in customer service? Why do people continue to work in customer service when they have zero? Why was the cashier next to you getting all your attention? Engage with the guests!!! It's part of your job! GeeSomeone please help. I love Michaels...but at least at Hobby Lobby the cashiers are nice sorry, not sorry Michaels. Came again....lady with 10 receipts for returns in front of me....one cashier...10 mins later she calls for help. 10 minutes later!!! Vladimer comes to help...he happens to be the same person that walked over to the cashier stations twice while the line kept growing and growing. Tell me why it took 10 minutes and for the "busy" cashier to ask for help before he comes and helps!? Please...train your people better or hire better people. I'm going to head over to Hobby Lobby for now on. Never have bad service there and they have more than one cashier working....especially for returns during Christmas weekend. Very rude and unprofessional manager. I do not know her name but when she saw that I was not going to spend a certain amount of money she saw that it would mess up her sales quota and her attitude and mood towards me changed so I got a refund on my 86.00 worth of purchases. When I asked if I can have my frames measured and have some help putting it together the employee Jesse said no problem and the lady said He can't because his shift ends at 1. He said it ends at 3pm. Pathetic customer service. Managers name was Hilga I believe. I we t to another Horrible service. Long story short I went to another Michaels by Seal Beach and Celeste was wonderful and I gladly went over what I was intending on spending. 177.00 happily spent versus 86.00 with rude service. First off, I went in for some sketch and watercolor pads. Had to use the restroom and the security guy in suite just kept following me instead of opening the restroom I had to walk all over the store trying to find someone and this guy instead of helping just kept creeping on me . This store usually has everything I need in stock. I think it's one of the bigger ones. The reason for my two stars is for them keeping their restrooms out of use. So far this is the only location that I've been to who has their restrooms closed. I'm all for safety but to have them closed is overkill, ridiculous and honestly lazy. The less the restroom is used, the less employees have to clean them. So none of their employees use the restroom? I was there the other day and a child needed to use the restroom and the mom was told they are out of order. The mom left her cart and went hurrying out of there. The last time I checked, restroom need isn't really predictable. Not only that, but the girls who work there have the worst attitude. First Michael's cancels their coupon program, which I will only shop here as a last resort now bc they are way over priced compared to other stores. This Michaels is located in the Quad next to Anna's linens. There is tons of parking in front. The store is a decent size inside. I always end up finding what I need and have been coming to this location forever. It helps a lot that they have mini shopping carts which are so easy to maneuver around all the aisles. The store always seems to be well kept up with. I never really see tons of clutter or things all over the place. I remember as a kid I used to hate coming here with my mom because it was so boring to me with all the crafts. But now I LOVE it. They have everything you need when you are feeling crafty and need some materials. They even have bakewear along with the fondents and all the extra stuff you need. This is definitely the best place to come if you are making a scrapbook. They have house decor along with all the yarn to keep up with crocheting. I love their aisle where it has tons of little gifts under $5, you can actually walk out with great gift bags for a good price. My favorite part is that they always have coupons online. They normally have a 40% off regular priced item and 20% off entire purchase including sale items. How many places do that!? You end up saving so much money In the end and the coupons help when you need a lot of material. Their discounted items a lot of the time are 40%-% 70% off. I like that they do not stop providing ways to help people save money. The downfall to this review would be the wait time in line. I feel like the customer service here is not that great and could use some improvements. The line gets long and it gets long fast. There is normally one person working which they take forever. It takes them a long time to call for help. It seems like they are always short staff. I would give it more stars but the lines are that long and take forever due to lack of workers on duty. read more

You would think after so many reviews the store would get the hint... Customer service definitely needs improvement, don't know whose doing the hiring or if it's just this location. And the line... You have tons of employees just walking around the store when they should be ringing up customers..that's how your store makes money. Went in tonite with my mom and I would say I've been to about 3 other different somewhat nearby Michaels within the last few weeks, doing lots of wedding shopping. This store definitely stuck out and not for a good reason. Yes does have the basic Michaels set up, but on this specific trip I need 100 mason jars.. Pretty much emptied the shelves but was happy. Also got a few more things. When going to pay again the line was ridiculous, everyone in it looked pissed off and they had three cashiers but were all slow and just bagged every time like they had all the time in the world. When I've gone to the other Michaels they let me use two coupons on one transaction, here the guy said nope. Which was lame, had to two transactions. Then all their little carts you can't take out of the store so be prepared to carry your stuff. In and out :) It can get pretty busy on the weekends, but they for the most part have every needed to work on a project. We come into Michael's on a regular basis.... generally the checkout is pretty quick, however today was a different story. There was a lady at register 2 who literally handed the cashier a list and stated... I can not find these items can you check for me. The cashier sent another employee to search for the items.... meanwhile the checkout line was growing by the minute. After 9 mins cashier 1 became available. We paid for our items and left, meanwhile the lady was still there..... this is unacceptable. Maybe we should just show up with our list and let the cashier shop for us. I was Poison Ivy for Halloween this year and I had to get some last minute items to complete my costume. I wanted to spray the leaves in glow in the dark paint and apply green glitter. Michaels had all the supplies that I needed. The prices are slightly higher than Walmart and Target but they carry a lot of specialty craft items that Walmart and Target don't carry. Also, you can usually find 50% off regular price coupons online so make good use out of these! Note* Bring a friend so you can use multiple coupons! It's Christmas time, and what better gift to give than something made with lots of tender loving care? Michaels has always been my go-to place for craft ideas and supplies. Christmas projects has me coming back, almost daily, for random finishing supplies. This Michaels is a lot more organized than some of the others that I've gone to, and it's nice to see clean isles. However, their employees seem scarce, as I've never been able to flag one down walking around the store. Still, the lines move quickly and depending on which cashier you get, you might end up with a very happy one or one who doesn't seem to appreciate her employment in this economy. read more

Look, once you've seen the inventory at one Michaels, you've seen 'em all. The thing that separates the mediocre from the exceptional is cleanliness, product availability, and customer service. This Michaels is clean enough, but understaffed enough that the shelves are often in disarray. Product availability suffers as well (maybe it's that popular?) My biggest pet peeve with this location is the lack of cashiers, PARTICULARLY during holiday seasons. I'm not trying to buy Christmas ornaments with sweat rolling down the crack of my ass because the air is stifling and only 2 cashiers are available. Beef up your staff. Us vultures will pick the shelves clean, even if things are askew and out of place. JUST GIVE US MORE EMPLOYEES...to whom we can hand over our money. read more

I ordered 10 LARGE Walnut Hollow Basswood Country Round pieces and for some reason they were two different shipments for my order. One order came with a itemized receipt and the second did not. I received the first 5; which 2 of them were medium size and they did not adjust my price to match what they sent me, and then a few days later received the second set of five. Unfortunately they were not what I expected and needed to return them. Tonight my husband and I went to return the items. The manager, Katherine (CEM was her title‍) assisted me. She made the return experience horrendous. Rude and dismissive to what I, THE CUSTOMER, was explaining to her. It's not like I was asking for a refund, I wanted store credit to purchase the correct items. Her voice started to escalate when she could see my frustration, and I asked her to bring it down a notch (not everyone needed to hear us), and her response, "you bring it down a notch". WOW is an understatement. I, many times, had to repeat myself so that she would grasp the concept of ONE, my order being incorrect, and TWO, they were two different shipments for the SAME order. I returned 9 out of the 10 items and she was only trying to give me store credit for 8 of them. I counted them 3 or 4 different times to her. LUDICROUS!!! I wish Michaels would provide customer service training to this manger with the CEM title. I find it ironic that her position does not reflect what the title entails; The Certified in Exhibition Management (CEM) designation is a globally recognized designation that DEMONSTRATES THE HIGHEST PROFESSIONAL STANDARD throughout the exhibitions and events management arena. read more

While I was in line to pay I noticed the cashiers joking and talking to each other and fooling around with each other. As I walked to the register to pay the cashier didnt even take the time to greet me and was very rude. When she rang everything up, she didnt even give me my total and just waited for me to give her my payment because she was still too busy talking to her co workers. I then paid and waited for her to at least wish me a happy day, of course that didnt happen again because she was still too busy fooling around. BAD customer service. read more

I'm a kindergarten teacher and we do lots of crafty things at work. The items we get from our school supply are limited and Michael's always comes to the rescue. They have everything here. Cake decorating supplies, done. Fourth grader needs to build a Mission, done. Mother's Day gift, done. Need to make soap, jewelry, mosaic tile coasters or a stepping stone....blah, blah, blah, you get the picture. The latest thing I went looking for were stencils to make t-shirts for my sister's and my class. With 48 t-shirts to make, we decided a stencil would be good to write the schools name. The problem is all the stencils had an ugly font or were too big or too small. Gosh wouldn't it be great to be able to make your own stencil...yep, there is a little tool to do that. The staff was not helpful or friendly at all. They seemed to be too busy for questions or assistance. They were more interested in catching up with each other. When asked a question I had to repeat myself and request an answer . so rude. Instead of taking me or showing me where to find something I was just told what isle to I find it. I never thought about this Michael's until I went to the Pasadena Michael's a few times. The Pasadena Michael's is hellish. Instead of writing a negative review of that place, I am going to write a positive review of the Whittier Michael's, which by comparison is a great store. Pasadena Michael's: --Small parking lot (although since it's Pasadena I guess it's amazing there's a parking lot at all) --Narrow aisles --Poorly laid out --Messy --Gives me a feeling of claustrophobia and anxiety Whittier Michael's: --Large parking lot --Wide aisles --Laid out in a way that intuitively makes sense. Which means I only ask where something is if I'm in a big hurry; otherwise, I enjoy strolling around, looking at everything, and coming upon it myself. --Organized --Gives me a feeling that there are endless art projects in this world So the next time someone challenges you to name three aspects of Whittier that are better than Pasadena, use Michael's as one of your examples. But Michael's won't work as an example if someone is trying to make you prove Whittier is better than La Mirada, because the La Mirada Michael's is equally as good. But that's okay, because there are a ton of ways that Whittier is better than La Mirada. P.S. The reason I rate this store 4 stars and not 5 is the lack of apostrophe in the store name. read more

This is the place I go to when I need picture frames. They have a wide variety of frames to choose from. Different frame styles, different sizes, and also custom made frames. There really isn't any frame type you won't find here. (with the exception of a 12x12 mat frame). The only reason why I'm not giving 5 stars is because some employees can be rude/unhelpful. Today 4/2, my mother went to purchase some items to this Michael's store. She had a coupon and asked the cashier if she can use it for the items. The cashier was rude and just said she did not speak Spanish. She did not offer any alternative even when my mom showed her the coupon. She didnt bother to check if the coupon was valid for the items she was purchasing. Another customer in line had to come in and help. The customer treated my mother with more respect and courtesy than the cashier. After confirming the coupon was not valid, my mom told the cashier that was ok she would still complete the purchase. The cashier told my mom she had to get back in line because she was already helping another customer. My mother went to the cashier next to her and got the same treatment. I am disappointed to know that my nearby Michaels store is discriminating against Hispanics because they speak Spanish. They offer no alternative solution and send customers back to the line and rudely call on another customer rather than finishing the customer interaction in front of them. The line can get really long here with only 1 or 2 cashiers. I spent as much time waiting in line to pay as I did walking around the store searching for stuff. This store seems to have less clearance items than other Michael's locations. Lots of security with security guards inside and outside, so pretty safe. read more

Ive waited awhile to write this review and I hate that I have to knock another star from their rating. I absolutely love michaels because they have so much. I used to shop every Monday ( I know thats a lot haha). I didnt shop at any michaels for almost a year because of this event. On a visit there with my father a glass votive fell off a wreath and hit my dad on his head. It made such a loud noise! Immediately blood started flowing down my fathers forehead! Someone came over and ask if we needed a napkin. Duh! Theres blood everywhere and im currently using stuff from my purse so soak it up. No manager comes, no asking if hes ok. So I HAVE to go find someone else to ask for a manager because they didnt seem the least bit alarmed. The girl proceeded to tell me that stuff falling has been frequently. SERIOUSLY?! If you know this is a problem then fix it. We leave and I write an email to the corporate office. Takes 2 days for a generic reply. Another week after me calling everyday to talk to someone. They dont even seem worried that my dad had to go to the doctor because of a 4 day long headache. Finally I get a voicemail from someone. I call back later and it goes to a voicemail saying they are vacation. Nice! I called back a few times and never got a call back. If me and my father were the sue-happy type they would have had a big problem! This place needs to fix how they handle things and their customer service. read more

As a crafty type of person, I go to Michael's a lot. I also like that they mail home coupons so you can always get a nice discount on a single item. Today, I needed some fabric dye. I wanted to mix two colors and they only had one color. One of the employees checked the back for me and then told me that Rite Aid and Wal-Mart have vast selections and are typically a bit more well-stocked. Good to know. The one thing that drives me nuts about this place is that there is always a huge line to pay. And today was no different. Thing is, there's always one huge line and if there are two cashiers, the other cashier will call someone from the single line. And not wanting to look like an a-hole, I don't go to the second cashier to make a new line, because... well... How can I justify being a huge ass and "cutting" in front of everyone. But then these two ladies, obvious regulars, go make a line at the second cashier and, even though there were about 10 people in the first line, I'm assuming the cashier will tell them to go to the other line. Nope. She takes them, angering everyone else. So I loudly asked her, "SO, ARE THERE TWO LINES?!" She just smiles and say, "Uh, yeah, I guess." *enter collective sigh from line of customers* Because we now feel like diptards for having stood in a LONG line when we could have gotten into the shorter line. read more

This is my weakness, Michael's and their goodies. This place is huge, bigger than any store I've been to. Everything is well organized and never out of stock, at least on the items that I've needed. The only reason I give it a minus one star and like everyone else has stated, their customer service is not great. Prisma markers and color pencils will always be over priced because of the quality they provide but don't blame the store for that.
