Worst food in a long time. I got water diarrhea within an hour of eating here. Beware.

Micha's opened with a dangerous salvo: salsa that tasted like ketchup and horchata watered down from a cheap concentrate. As we were reeling from this, they hit us with the entrees, which were basically salt disguised as food. The machaca blazed a hitherto unknown culinary trail into the heart of blandness. Furthermore, while machaca should be salty, there are safety limits--limits that Micha's exceeded several times over. It's hard to make cured beef suck, but there are talented magicians working in their kitchen. Depressingly, the machaca was downright wonderful compared to the menudo, an inedible saline bath reminiscent of the Pacific Ocean, if the Pacific was full of hominy. It was initially promising--the bowl was loaded with corn and tripe, the broth was thick and opaque, and there were bones floating in the depths. But a few spoonfulls lead to a spike in blood pressure and the soup had to be abandoned; better to have a bowl of cereal at home. Our experience may have been atypical, but we won't be returning to find out. Mediocre food is forgivable, inedible food isn't. read more

So disappointed! Drove from the North side all the way Down here, around the construction, only to be told by a large young man leaning out the door, "We're closed." I replied, "you don't close until 9, it's only 8:30!" He said they were slow so they were closing early. (It's Friday night for heaven's sake!) Went with amigos Christmas Eve Eve. The service was prompt. We had a large party of 8 and they were very accommodating. There was another large party in the back and the service was good. We had House Margarita's, mine on rocks with salt. We ordered the Menu and all was prepared quickly and served steaming. I enjoyed the chimichanga con pollo with red enchilada sauce. Michas is another Tucson oldie that has stood the test of time, 25 years to be exact! I walked in for an early lunch at 11 and the place was already filling up. Known for it's fast service it's definitely a convenient lunch spot for those who work in South Tucson. Full disclosure: Sonoran style Mexican food is not my favorite and I'm from here! And I prefer to eat it at home. So when I venture out, my go to dishes are usually fajitas, tacos, guacamole, albondiga soup and breakfast burrito. That being said, when I go out for Mexican food, my rating system weighs heavily on the quality of the salsa, the cut of the meat, what type of cheese is used, tortilla quality and salt content. This may seem unfair, but great quality ingredients for great Mexican food are basically at our fingertips in Tucson, so I expect Mexican restaurants to serve up the best! I ordered the Fajitas on this visit and overall they were tasty but not served as they traditionally are on smoking hot skillet. It was more like a chicken stir-fry with sauteed onions and bells, re-fried beans and rice. My side of corn tortillas was disappointing. They were dry and cracked. The salsa was underwhelming. Usually, I have little to no self control when it comes to chips and salsa. In this case, one bite was plenty. read more

Came by for dinner with my pops under his recommendation because he used to know the old owners and always complimented their food. Well upon entering they told us to seat ourselves wherever we liked, atmosphere wise it was mediocre... my only gripe was the lighting which was very low and dim otherwise nothing too bad. Now as for the food, the prices, in my opinion, were not worth what we ate. Not that the food quality itself was low, but a lot of the dishes lacked... well, flavor to be honest. The Spanish rice was bland and dry, the beans were just okay but also bland. The tortilla chips tasted like they were from a bag(living in Tucson you get spoiled in the sense that most Mexican restaurants make their own fresh tortilla chips). The enchiladas was the only thing my plate had going for it(they were good). The waitress that served us wasn't very attentive and when I ordered an appetizer to go, she took very long in both ordering it, bringing it out, made a mistake and took a long time bringing back the correct order. Micha's - Mexican Near Me - Tucson, Arizona

During the 80s as a child my family used to go to Micha's fairly often. Once I was on my own I didn't return for any particular reason. I always liked it and remember the food being very good with a decent atmosphere too. After a very long hiatus, I decided on whim to return with my own family. The atmosphere was still good, although the place was slightly worn around the edges in a good way. That's to be expected after almost a quarter of a century. It's a casual family place, not a fine dining establishment. The food was still very good, maybe not quite up to par with what I remembered, but I don't know if that is just an artifact of memory or actual reality. We were served with only one bowl of tortilla chips with no refills offered. I don't know if refills cost extra, or if it was just laxness on our server's part. The chips were fresh and decent, but some weren't warm. The salsa was very good. I ordered the #17 combination plate, in which I had a red chili chimichanga along with refried beans and rice. The red chili had tender cubes of beef in a savory red chili sauce. At some Mexican restaurants the red chili sauce has a somewhat bland taste marred with a texture that is too thick presumably due to too much flour as a thickening agent. Not a Micha's as the sauce had just the right amount of thickness. Going overboard with red chili sauce, I ordered my chimi enchilada style, and it was very good and covered with melted cheddar cheese. The chimi itself was perfectly crisp on the outside with more of a non-fried flour tortilla texture on the inside, which is good but slightly different than the usual chimichangas in the area as they are more crispy throughout the tortilla wrapping. The refried bean were very flavorful and covered with melted cheese also. The rice was tasty, but it lukewarm and had a few cold clumps in it, so I would only say it was only fair. My wife had a carne asada burrito. It was good, but it was pretty dry and lacked the amount of onions and tomatoes that other places typically have. To counteract the dryness she ordered a side of guacamole, which also was a little atypical. The guacamole had a lot of onions, but the unusual part was that it also had some cottage cheese mixed in. Unusual, but good. One of my sons got a bean chimichanga, which was like mine in that it was crispy on the outside, but less so than other places on the inside. He liked it a lot. My other son ordered a machaca taco, chicken enchilada and rice. His plate looked good, and he said it was great. The service was good but not great. Our server was for the most part all business and not overly friendly. The bus boy was very friendly, however. I would go back again. My kids loved it, and I thought it was good, but my wife was only partially impressed. So it won't be a place that we would frequent with any regularity, but I wouldn't hesitate to go again read more

I have eaten here for nearly 20 years, but my lunch today was below par. For starters, one ground beef enchilada was $4.50. I ordered two, but I received several pieces of rotten lettuce and about 2 bites of my enchiladas were cold. El Molinto's on Ina offers 2 great ground beef enchiladas plus refried beans for $6.00. The chips were tasteless and in desperate need of salt. Something is wrong here, my peeps. Prices are too high, and the quality of the food is not good. I heard many good things over the years and finally decided to go in. My SO and I ended up going in on a slow day. Service was quick and friendly. I got cheese enchiladas and they got flautas with shredded beef. Prices were decent. Got 4 starts because the taste of the food wasn't what I was expecting. Completely demolished this heaven sent bowl of red menudo, I'd like to take the time to write this review because word on the street is this menudo they serve at michas will treat you so right it'll beg you to come back to it after you cheat on it with the white menudo. So I had to see for myself. Among the rest of their super tasty food stands their menudo with its head held high, holding the 1st place trophy of making my mouth wetter than the bottom of a Jetski. If you ever come over here get the red menudo and thank me later while your mind is in a state of bliss and magical tingles emerge from your inner thigh traveling all the way up to your taste buds. My husband's cousin brought us here for lunch on the recommendation of his coworker. None of us had ever been here before. I have to say, when you walk through the door and it smells delicious, that's a good sign. All the food was great. One of us ordered flautas, one of us had a carne asada chimichanga, and I had a carne asada topopo salad (I just had to order that because I thought the name "topopo" was a trip!) I am rating for 2 items: 1) When the charge showed in my credit card statement, they had charged an extra $3 over what I put on the receipt. This is stealing and I lowered what would have been a 2 star rating for food & service to a 1 because of this. I knew a friend of a friend years ago who said he did that at the restaurant he worked at, he said nobody every noticed, and all the wait staff did it. So I am expecting they all do it here also, or maybe only to the people who don't speak to them in Spanish. 2) The food was not great. I have eaten Mexican food my entire life and I like authentic food, not Americanized food. The biggest test for Mexican restaurants is how good their beans and guacamole are (it is harder to do simple items very well as when there is more ingredients you can hide flaws easier). The beans were ok, similar to from a Rosarita can of beans, but not the level I would have expected from a "good" Mexican restaurant. The best item was the Tamale which was enjoyable to eat but not something outstanding I would go out of my way to get. The Carne Seca was extremely salty, almost inedible and their tacos were on hard shell - not something I have seen in the more authentic Mexican restaurants I go to. The food was ok, we did eat it, but we would not go back again with so many much better Mexican restaurants in the area. I noticed above they describe their restaurant as Mexican and Fast Food. Some of the best food in Tucson. I am a Native to Tucson so I have eaten good Mexican food all over town but Micha's is in the top 2. I have NEVER had a bad meal from this place. Always friendly service, clean and fast to serve the correct meal, hot and tasty! My fave is the "patty beef" taco. Comfort food when I was a kid! Not as good as Moms, but what ever is? I used to be a regular in the early '80s. Back then, it was just a converted house with limited seating, but the food was the best on S. 4th. Gilbert and Micha treated me like family. We can't visit Tucson without multiple visits to Micha's. We have been eating here for at least 20 years and the food is always excellent and consistently good. My family had a small dinner celebration and chose Micha's because we heard it was good food, and because I wanted to use the Cantina area. Days leading up to our event, I called to make sure the reservations were still good and check if there was anything else that needed to be done before the party, I was advised that everything was okay, but a day before the event, I received a call from a lady asking about the meal we selected, she was not very friendly and her costumer service needs some work. She informed me she was calling to see what buffet we were going to go with, so I told her which one we selected, she then proceeded to rudely say that they were supposed to know 2 days before the party, I let her know I contacted them a week ago but who ever I spoke to insisted everything was fine with my reservation. so I had planned to call again the day before to tell them what I was going to order. The day of the party, my family and I arrived 10 minutes early to make sure we were there to greet the family when they arrived. When I informed the front desk we had reservations, this guy rudely informed me we were too early, and told us we could wait for them to finish setting up the room. We waited and when the time came, they lead us to the Cantina. The room was hot and when I brought it up to the waiter he informed me the air was on, but because the burners were going, it was going to be awhile for it to get cool. Everyone was hot and uncomfortable, so I didn't understand why they couldn't turn the air on BEFORE the party. The food was good, but they need to learn costumer service. The chimi was pretty tasty, and their machaca tastes nice, but there's nothing about this place that makes it stand out from other Mexican places in town. Would have never, EVER expected a place to be off the beaten path like this. I was actually a little concerned when my cousin drove me over here but, I love homey places such as this. So I walked in told them I was dying of hunger and they came out were very friendly and went ahead and gave us the standard chips and water. Perfect, now everything is getting better because I have something to coat my stomach...I don't need anything special so I just ask the waiter where the enchiladas are without really looking at the menu and says "2 enchiladas coming up". I love it. Then I looked over and saw someone that had margaritas -- and I really really wanted one but I was trying to not drink that night.
