Our favorite place for mexican food. #11 combo plate as chimichanga style (no enchilada sauce) My husband prefers BBQ and I prefer red chili. Food is always HOT cut into it early and let it cool a bit. Nice courtesy chips and salsa. Family atmosphere most severs have been there for a long time. Came here with a group of 7 for dinner. I'd never been here but the *other* place across the street gets a lot of hype. Our server was friendly, the food came out within a reasonable time, and the atmosphere, while a bit dated, was nice enough for a sit down place. I would only suggest a different channel or no TV as the news is kind of a bummer when going out to eat. I ordered the combination #8, two shredded beef tacos with rice and beans. I can't recall if I've ever had a shredded beef taco that had any seasoning or wasn't dry and stringy. Is that common in Tucson? Maybe I need to go with ground beef or skip beef altogether. Thankfully, the taco shells, lettuce, cheese, and added salsa helped perk them up. The rice and beans were also flavorful. The chips were cold and the salsa tasted store bought and came out of those plastic pitchers. With everything being at least twice as expensive now, guessing it's to cut a corner here and there. I genuinely wanted to love this place, but unfortunately, I left feeling a bit underwhelmed. On the positive side, the ambience was pleasant, and the staff were warm, friendly, and attentive, which I really appreciated. However, there was a noticeable mildew-like odor when we first walked in, which was a bit off-putting. The salsa tasted more like marinara sauce, which wasn't quite what I was expecting, though the chips were decent. As for the food -- it was okay. I had the shredded beef tacos, which were actually quite good. The beans, however, had a slightly sour taste. I'm hoping that was just from sour cream mixed in, but it was hard to tell. My husband ordered the green chili burrito. While the green chili itself had good flavor, the overall dish just felt kind of "meh." I will admit that the 3.2-star rating made me a little uneasy. Why so many negative reviews? The restaurant I had planned on trying had a long wait and I don't like waiting for food, so this place was nearby and wasn't as crowded. It was a Saturday evening at 7:30pm, on the second day of Day of the Dead. Several staff were dressed up and many customers were also dressed up and filling up the back room. I was sat at a small table in the back, as this place does not have a sit-down bar. Despite the busy tables, where I was seated wasn't too loud. This is a big restaurant with several rooms of different sizes. This keeps the noise down. I was waited on promptly. I ordered a chicken mole platter with flour tortilla and water. I got my chips and water right away. I hadn't eaten all day and was famished. I'm glad I saved my appetite as this was a filling meal. Service was top notch. My chips bowl was replaced with a fresh bowl of warm chips without me asking for more. My water was refilled without me even asking for that, either. I like this kind of attentiveness. My meal arrived in 15 minutes. The mole was delicious! The chicken was finely shredded. There was plenty of sauce and there was enough of it to cover my rice and beans as well. The only not-so-nice thing was the messy bathroom. The paper towels were overflowing and there was toilet paper on the floor. After a day of out of my town work, and no lunch, we really needed a solid meal. Was planning on going to the place across the street, but they were super busy. My associate and myself were comfortably seated in a booth, and received warm chips and salsa. Pretty good. Partner had the daily special, two tacos, beans and rice. Generous portion at a great price. I had the guacamole taco and beef chimichanga combo. Lots of green chili on the plate, delicious taco and very good chili. Beans and rice tasted just right. Our server was quite nice, attentive and friendly. Haven't been here in many years, having moved from Tucson, but it was nice to be back. Stopped in on a Saturday around 2pm. Plenty of parking and we were seated quickly at a booth. I like the design and ambiance of the restaurant very classic Mexican restaurant decorations. They brought plenty of chips and salsa to the table. The salsa including the hot one was pretty mild. I ordered the combination that came with a taco a tamale and an enchilada. The beans and rice were good very standard. The taco I wasn't too crazy about it was a step up from a Taco Bell taco. The shell seemed like it was premade and then some ground beef when I was hoping for maybe some shredded beef. The tamale sauce was very spicy. I wasn't expecting that since their salsa was so mild and the enchilada the sauce was lacking in flavor. Twice they have made us wait before anyone shows up to take drink order. Today, my friend and I finally walked out because it happened again. Apparently, a waitress told us they compete for tips and judge people walking in on who will be a better tripper. Obviously, we don't look like someone who will be a good tipper so we are ignored until someone decides to take our order. Older Tucson establishment, same decor and set up for ages. Friendly staff and was here for a family gathering of 14! We all had memories of coming for dinner ions ago and all agreed it isn't what Double L used to be in the hey day. Even the parking lot and empty tables showed that. Chips and salsa brought to the table and liked that they brought three bowls for this large party. The chips are light and crispy and the salsa was more like spicy tomato sauce to be honest. They also offer a spicier version and when you mix the two, it does make a bit better salsa. I ordered Albondigas, which was served with three smaller meatballs. The broth wasn't that great to be honest, just needed more seasoning. I threw a bit of salt in it just to bump it up. Liked the big piece of carrot (1) and tomato (1) floating about the broth. Wife had the Pozole, which was very greasy...not sure how that happened but you will see from the picture that there is a red film along the bowl. She said it had fairly good flavor and it certainly was full of veggies...way different than the albondigas for sure. Both bowls came with tortilla (we ordered flour) and we both agree that we remember homemade, tender tortillas as opposed to what was offered. Corn chips were stale, salsa was nothing special, and the taco salad was disgusting with one corn tortilla smeared with a small amount of refries topped with soggy, shredded iceberg lettuce, frozen peas and carrots, half an avocado, 5 over-cooked shrimp, a small sprinlke of cheddar-jack cheese and pickled jalapenos. We've looked all over Tucson for an OldSkool Mexican restaurant like this, but passed by LL many times without stopping in. Our bad! With our work we tend to eat dinner early, so we there a bit before 5pm on a Thursday. But turns out happy hour is 3pm to 6pm, so the timing was perfect. And in addition to the $10.99 carne asada taco special I got, they have 99 cent Buds and Michelob drafts during happy hour (small bar-size glasses, but we weren't looking to get buzzed). Oh, and my wife got Huevos Rancheros and it was good too. Nice laid-back non-fancy atmosphere and great service rounded out the experience. I have to admit though, the pretty building Guillermo's sits in immediately caught my eye once we pulled up. I couldn't believe that this place only had a couple people inside, with next door being a wait all the way outside.... we had a nice dinner here. It's casual, and pretty standard Mexican food, but there were some unique aspects to this place. We tried the cheese crisps, which I had never heard of before... but it was really good! We were headed to Mi Nidito but with a 45-60 minute wait we opted to venture across the street to Guillermo's and we're happy we did. Although busy we were seated promptly and given menus with chips and salsa following immediately. The restaurant was bright and colorful and very clean and the booths very comfortable. Both the hot and mild salsas were good. We started out with Mexican style oysters and the Mexican shrimp cocktail, both were very good and very fresh. They replenished the chips and salsa often without asking, they were on top of it. We each ordered Carne Seca chimichangas and I have to say they may be the largest I've ever been served! The carne seca was very tasty, (maybe could have been shredded a bit more, but I'm not complaining!). The service was also exceptional! We will definitely be coming back! Our neighborhood group had a lunch today at Guillermo's and the place gets an "A". Waitstaff kept the group satisfied with never-ending chips & salsa. Of course water was always fresh and plentiful. Our 1 waitstaff got all the orders right and cashed us out with a smile & effeciency. I had the carne seca enchilladas with rice & beans. This was the first time I've ordered this dish here. The carne seca had a solid good taste. It was a little more moist than I am used to with carne seca but the taste came through. The amount of food was plentiful. They brought me a "to go" box but I left the box as I ate the whole plate. OK, I wore my stretchy pants for lunch! The ambiance at Guillermo's is part of the charm eating here. It's been 2 years since we've eaten here and I must say the food took a turn for the worse, and the cleanliness of the place went downhill as well. Our server was friendly and very attentive to our needs. Unfortunately, the food could have been way better than it was. It seems as if a lot is frozen and then flash fried right before coming to your table. The rice is bland....no flavor at all....definitely not your average Mexican rice, and if you get it as a side it is $2.00....not worth that cost. The cheese enchilada was not tasty and I've had much better at other Mexican restaurants. The other person in our party had a combo plate and said the chicken was extremely dry. Hard to believe I've never eaten at this place. Tried them for the first time a few weeks back and had to come back as I craved their enchiladas. Their enchilada sauce is amazing!! Simply homemade good food. Their shrimp fajitas are really good and you get alot of shrimp. I've definitely had better tortillas. They do not have didn't any pork entrees on the menu. You know it's the real deal when you see huge families coming in and raving about how long they've been patronizing this place. The menu is pretty wide, covering your tacos, burritos, enchiladas, chimis, and more. Diners seem to really appreciate their seafood as well. I had a red chili burrito, and I thought it was bland. My date had albondigas soup, which she enjoyed. The margaritas are not good, but they are cheap and they are strong. The waitresses here are incredibly quick, kind, and efficient. A well-oiled machine. I enjoyed my time here because it's cozy, quiet, and everyone is treated well. But I wouldn't ever rave about the actual product. read more

Have always heard how good it is and my wife's leftovers from having lunch here yesterday made me realize I just had to experience it for myself. Five stars may not be enough for Guillermo's LL, the food was great, the service was fun and fantastic and the ambiance is the best I've seen in a Mexican Restaurant.
