I want to preface this review on the fact that I've been coming here for over 22 years. Up Everything was fine, got my food, waited 15 minutes for somebody to ask me if I was doing OK and did not have any silverware since my food got put on the bar top. After 15 minutes I finally got my silverware. I stayed at the bar and ate. One of the bartenders came behind the bar right in front of me and blew his nose twice, wiped his hands in his nose on a paper towel, and did not wash his hands and then proceeded to pick up a towel off the bar and wipe down silverware with it. Love Casa Molina Restaurant on Campbell We recently went to Casa Molina for Lunch. All 9 of us loved the food! It was delicious, authentic TUCSON Mexican Food! The ambiance is gorgeous. The interior has historic murals, hand painted florals all around, authentic Mexican pottery, Spanish tile, saguaro rib ceiling, oversized wooden beams with corbels, a beehive fireplace, and more. The service was awesome. We did not order alcoholic beverages so I can't endorse that. But, if you haven't been there recently, then you need to try it again. You will not be disappointed. read more

My first time at this restaurant and it will not be my last. My grandson and I enjoyed their Sunday brunch/buffet.. We're not talking just a little buffet. We're talking all along mine of anything you could possibly want in the Mexican line of food. The taste is phenomenal., the serving size is definitely generous, the employees are top notch! Service is always prompt and courteous. I really just come here for the things they do well. They have a very good shredded beef taco in a hard shell with cheese, lettuce tomato. It's $5.45 but full of meat! They also have some of the best beans in Tucson if not the best. They're so creamy and delicious. They also have very good mini chimis. We were on this side of town (it's 45 minutes from home) so we went in. We moved back to Tucson and all other locations are now closed. We have been hankering for good Sonoran Mexican food. We came from Texas and aren't thrilled with Tex-Mex. I was quiet as it was 4:00 pm. We were greeted promptly, and ordered our favorites. We shared a cheese crisp, half with green chiles for the hubby. He had a ground beef taco which was very good. I had a shredded beef chimichanga that was delicious. This type of chimi we couldn't get in Texas and every time I would come back to Tucson for a visit, I would make a point to go to this place at least once. Prices were reasonable. Disclaimer: My review is totally colored by sentimentality. When I first came here years ago I'd just moved to AZ from another state, had my first date here with a guy I worked with - then he became my husband and my life changed for the better. I could probably come here and eat gruel and still be smiling dreamily. The first thing you'll notice about Casa Molina is it's dang cute, with the Saltillo tile floors and the saguaro rib latilla ceilings. I love the Southwestern decor here! The second thing you'll notice is the crazy high menu prices. Yeah, they do seem higher than many other places. I'm going to keep returning because of my ties here, but I'd encourage you to try Casa Molina once and see how you like it. Over the years, I've had some really delicious meals here and some that were just mediocre. The carne asada tacos are a favorite, but sometimes the meat can be a little tough. My husband swears by the chicken soup. Crazy as it sounds to order that, he says it's outstanding. The house salsa has some good spice to it. On my last visit I ordered a shredded beef chimichanga on a whim. I almost fell out of my chair when I saw how ginormous it was! I kid you not, it was almost as long as my forearm! It was cooked perfectly, not greasy or heavy, and the shredded beef was tender and delicious. It was one of the better items I've had. (Though my husband had to help finish it. It's huge!) Food is always good. Large portions for the price. Love the decor and everyone is so nice and friendly. My favorite is the chicken taco salad and boy is it huge. I get 3 meals out of it. The chicken is always tender and the shell tasty and crispy. I've seen people order the fajitas and it comes out sizzling hot. You can hear it as the waiter walks past. The plate is extremely large and loaded with veggies and meat. I might try that some day, I'll just be eating it for several meals at home. Overall, a good Mexican restaurant. Flautas (3) Corn tortillas, rolled with beef or chicken, topped with guacamole and sour cream, served with frijoles. My daughter ordered chicken. She said it was filling but not very flavorful. Just tasted like chicken. No sauce. Two Tacos (choice of Ground Beef or Chicken) with Spanish rice and Re-fried beans. My Mom order the chicken. She said the same as my daughter. Not flavorful chicken. No sauce. Just chicken. A bit too plain than what she was expecting. She used my red sauce to add some flavor to her tacos. The waiter was not too swamped. There were 2 other tables alongside us but we still had to wait for our drinks to be refilled. The margaritas were small. The staff were very nice. I ordered beef fajita, which generously comes with rice, beans, and guacamole. pick de gallo and your choice of flour or corn tortilla. It arrived very quickly, sizzling hot and smelling delicious. My father ordered a beef chimichanga enchilada style. It was so big that we could have shared it. We could have shared either dish,but we like to take home half of what we order. I love this place! It's homey, quiet, and down-to-Earth. The enchiladas are fantastic! They've got that hint of onion flavor without being overwhelmingly onion-y. Also love the tacos and chimichangas! Margaritas aren't outstanding, but they do the job. Every server we've had has been friendly and nice. Not trying to upcharge us, not ignoring us, not too busy. My parents and I went to the Saguaro National Park and talked to a docent there and Dr Bob recommended Casa Molina Del Norte. We decided to go for dinner. It was hands down some of the very best Mexican food I have ever eaten!! Service was a smidge slow but a huge retirement party was seated right after we were seated and I expected the wait. Food : ground beef tacos were BURNT Chili rellenos were soft not cooked A and mushy and could taste the uncooked EGG. Service: waiter guy was upset because we didn't want the crumbled cheese on our food. He never came back once for refills on iced tea and water. This is horrible in every way will never come back again AND restrooms woman's room looked and smelled like it hadn't been cleaned in days. Health department needs to check on this. The Restaurant atmosphere was definately attractive , the entree of shredded beef tacos and beans was very good. The appetizer arrived cold; and was presented WITH the meal. The server did not take the uneaten appetizer cheese tostada crisp off of the guest check. Therefore, the attention to food service was poor; which in turn ruined the whole dining experience. This is a Tucson institution, with the brand established in 1947. There's a reason it's been around so long, and it's because the food quality is consistently great. I've been coming here for a looooong time and have not been disappointed. (The service can be hit-or-miss in the dining room, though.) The margaritas are frosty and strong, and a Cadillac marg will run you $12 (5/2022). Pair it with a tostada de harina (cheese crisp) and you're well on your way to an excellent evening. They use lard for their refried beans and they are downright delicious. Portions are large and served piping hot; I dare you to leave hungry! read more

Okay, I've been here a few times over the years, 26 yr resident. I love good Mexican food, especially carne seca. I can pretty much tell you where to go in town for the best. In the past Del Norte has had rather good carne seca. I was there this week for probably the last time. I ordered carne seca chimichanga with the works. What I received I would describe as very moist shredded beef or machaca at best. It was far from being carne seca. I mentioned this to the server and he laughed and said I must not know what carne seca is. I asked for a manager and was told there was none there. I had eaten less than a quarter of my meal and asked for the check. No discounts, full price. I was in the business as a mgr for 20 yrs, I wouldn't have let a customer pay for that. As I was at the register paying the same server was now behind the bar laughing with the bartender and I definitely heard the words carne seca and machaca. I won't spend another dollar here. Heads up, if you want good carne seca go one block north to Rosa's Mexican Food, Mi Nidito or any el charro restaurant and get the real thing. Even Ole' at Orange Grove and La Cholla! read more

Service was horrible. Waited about an hour for a check. We were there for the buffet. Server named Jose never tended to the table and we were forced to pay him a $30 tip for little to no service because we were a party of six or more. He served our drinks and never came back, we had to go to the front to get the bill where we overhead him tell the receptionist that "they can wait". We will not be returning and we will be telling others about our awful unfortunate experience here. read more

I give any good Mexican restaurant that accommodates vegans FIVE stars. While the refried beans are made with lard, they also offer whole pinto beans that are just delicious. I don't frequent this restaurant enough to know if the prices went up but found the dinner menu, which was given to us, little pricey for lunches. I had to ask if there was a lunch special menu which we and table beside us did. Three specials were priced at $8.95, great. Food was very good. We both had a taco (stuffed w ground beef) cheese enchilada (authentic red chili and cheese, lge) with rice and beans (homemade). RC was $2.95, bottle of Coors $5.00 even. Very disappointed in our meal at Casa Molina on N Campbell. We had such high expectations and left about as hungry as we arrived. Ordered carne asada tacos (3) medium and they arrived at the table looking beyond well done and the meat was actually crunchy. Couldn't finish those. Very disappointing that the kitchen thought that was ok to release to a patron. Ordered the steak, cheese enchilada off the house specialities menu: ordered the steak medium : steak came out RARE. Really terrible cut of meat. Cheese enchilada was the best thing about the plate. Ordered the dinner number 8: Steak Mexicano, also ordered medium- came out well done. Bad bad bad decision. No onions, no green chiles, no tomatoes. Steak was tougher than an iron man decathlon course and the steak knife they provided only shredded the meat: so frustrating to eat. The flour tortilla they provided was approx the same size as a king size fitted sheet: I had to rip it into sections to be able to use it. None of the extras were included with this meal: no bean tostada or chicken rice soup and no sopapillas. Ordered the dinner #1 as an appetizer: again, none of the extras were included. The food was ok. PRO TIP: take a hard pass at visiting this location. The waitress told us at the end of the meal that she hoped we liked our dinner; they were trying out some new recipes. Well, we were looking for a Sunday buffet with Mexican food and drove by here a few weeks ago. Why not? First thing you notice is the decor. It's really colorful. The buffet didn't look bad when we asked to check it out first. I asked our server what was meatless, so he gave me and my guy said it looked fine. That's were it ended for me. The chilaquiles were strange. The tortillas in the sauce were hard and the sauce flavorless. The scrambled eggs had meat in them I didn't even finish my plate and my guy said all his food had not flavor and found it bland. He wound up with a barley sandwich (beer). Casa Molina is an absolute classic, and this location in particular is my favorite. What puzzles me is that I have not yet composed a review for the place, so now I am. To start, I have been here countless times--probably 20+--and have always enjoyed the food. I have had everything from their enchiladas de la casa, to their chicken mole, and even their combo platters and caldo de queso. I have yet to have anything on their menu that turned out to be a swing and a moss on their part, and their caldo de queso is among the best I've had. The overall vibe I get from the food is very home-like. Now onto that dining room, which is probably one of the coolest ones I've ever seen in a Mexican restaurant. The beams, tile, and lighting make for a very nice place to be on evenings out. Wait staff is always welcoming cordial, and they give you lots of time to look over the expansive menu. They are also very fast which is good as this place can really get packed at dinner time. The only negative thing I can really say is that the prices, as others have mentioned, are a bit on the pricey side. Now, while the food is delicious, there isn't anything particularly fancy going on here with the ingredients, preparation, or presentation; it's honest, home-style Mexican fare, which I like. I feel they should probably charge accordingly. I see Italian places suffering from the same problem from time to time.
