Yummy and authentic! Visiting Tucson, I wanted to eat northern Mexico/SW food. There were so many fast food joints, chain restaurants and gentrified fusion cuisines. I did a search for "best Mexican food in Tucson." Primos popped up. It was a half hour drive from where I was. And located in a nondescript strip mall. The server was friendly and accommodating. And the food was delish! Starting from the spiced chips and spicy salsa, i then had cream of green chili soup. Light and just the right amount of heat. I followed that up with a huarache. While in the area, we decided on this restaurant by the use of YELP for lunch. Not being from this area and only in the area for business we were not familiar with the neighborhoods. This was in a sketchy shopping center. We made our way inside. I dont know how to describe the decor but it was mixed pieces. No actual true connection. However there were plenty of tables and chairs. The hostess greeted us quickly and we were seated. She took drink orders (no alcoholic beverages available). We ordered chicken quesadillas and 3 birria tacos. Salsa and chips were complimentary provided. The chips were tasty and the salsa had a little kick to it but was good. The tacos were not good. They were of tons of juice and soaked the plate. The quesadilla were said to be too cheesy but they were better then the tacos. I did not get the Yelp review experiences of others that I used to lead me to dine here. It will not be on the return list if Im ever in the area again. read more

Food is mid, at best. Convenient location with an abundance of free parking. Upon entering, I was warmly greeted and immediately seated. Complimentary chips and salsa were served. Chips were mildly seasoned and absolutely delicious. Salsa was good with just a little kick. After looking over the menu, I decided to try a Cheese Quesadilla with Grilled Chicken, which arrived after a few short minutes. Umm... sadly, it was less than desirable. It was excessively greasy and lacked any real flavor, just an abundance of cheese. The accompanying guacamole didn't seem fresh and had an unusual creamy texture. Service was fast and friendly. First time trying this place, based on the mostly positive reviews on Yelp. The quesabirria tacos were the bomb. The beef and cheese tasted authentic and delicious. Stopped by on a Sunday morning (10:30) for breakfast. We're still trying to find a good Mexican breakfast place to replace our beloved Rigo's that closed after Covid. The place is very roomy and bright and clean with colorful baskets of flowers decorating the room and a beautiful butterfly at the entrance that's built specifically for people to take pictures with by putting themselves as the butterflies body. (Clever idea) The restaurant was fairly quiet with only about 5 other parties dining there. It looked like one person was cooking and one server and one busser. It looks like a family run restaurant so quite possibly the owner and his sons. My BF was originally planning on Menudo but they only had one size and judging from how big it looked on another diners table he thought it was more than he wanted. We both picked something on the lunch special menu (daily 10-2) He settled on the shredded beef and potato burrito which came with rice and beans. It looked a little small when it came out but after eating it he declared himself full. He was very happy with the tortilla (he's a tortilla snob) He said the beef was moist but not overly wet and very flavorful with small diced potatoes mixed in. He said because of there being so much meat in the burrito, it didn't need to be larger. I chose the ground beef taco and cheese enchilada combo which also came with rice and beans. It was a good size taco that had a good portion of ground season beef. My only complaint is I don't enjoy premade shells for my tacos. I'll take a smaller homemade shell over a larger premade any day. The cheese enchilada had a perfect amount of sauce and the cheese was nicely melted inside. The enchilada sauce was mild but had good flavor and didn't have the powered chili taste that some places have. The refried beans didn't wow us but we're still good. My bf is not a Mexican rice fan and usually leaves it mostly untouched but he ate it all and said he really liked it. We're not very high maintenance diners and don't require much attention but our server was polite and very nice and was quick with refills when we asked for them. You can tell they care about their food and the experience of their patrons. I hope you give them a try. I always root for local family business and wish them well read more

I just had lunch here and will not return. The chips were stale. The chicken flautas were made of hard corn tortillas and the chicken was not fresh. The refried beans were barely edible. The best thing about this meal was the lettuce, tomato etc on top of the flautas. read more

I had lunch here a few days ago. I ordered a shredded beef burrito, enchilada-style. The burrito was good, but it was ruined by the bad enchilada sauce on it. Service was fine, although the cash register rang it up at $11.43, while the menu price was $10.99. When I pointed this out, they refunded me the difference. read more

If you were a fan of Midway Molinas or Las Margaritas, then this is the place. Home cooking. Delicious. The items have different names but tasted oh so familiar. The gorditos were fluffy and tasty. The red sauce, yum. It needed a little heat but had good flavor. Beans great flavor. Yellow cheese, yippee! That is the only cheese for red sauce. Service, great, ambiance clean! Five stars I had a gathering today I went to Primos Wednesday to see if they made buffet style accommodation. Fix food for pick up and they did. Got it today and done on time and perfect. All hot and very very delicious. Ordered mini tacos, mini chimis, taquitos, rice beans salsa pics de gallo guacamole and chips. Had lunch here on Friday and were quite impressed. First impression was of a roomy clean dining area. We were there with a large group celebrating a birthday. Restaurant staff was very friendly and helpful by setting up to accommodate all guests. I ordered the steak fajitas. Fajitas plate included rice, beans, sour cream, guacamole and a choice of corn or flour tortillas. The portions were quite generous. Fajitas were flavorful as were the rice and beans. We also ordered the chicken flautas plate. Plate came with five well served flautas. Plate also included rice and beans. We ordered a side of guacamole and it was delicious. We received excellent service for being a large group. Staff kept drinks, chips and salsa coming throughout our meal. The entire group of 20 were very happy and satisfied with their meal. I'm all about supporting small businesses. So wanted to give Primos a try. The restaurant is nice and clean. They offered a variety of options and decent lunch price specials. But the reason for the 2 stars is the lack of flavoring and taste. It lacked taste and was bland to be honest. I wish the business the best of luck but will not be returning in the future. read more
