Went this week for taco Tuesday, hadn't been in months but they have changed ownership. Our server was the taller of the two males and he was absolutely wonderful. Their bean dip served with chips was good so I had high hopes. We ordered and everything came out in less than 6 minutes. The campechana only had shrimp as seafood and another tiny amount of thinly sliced item I think they tried to pull off as abalone, but the texture was not right. The fried fish taco was a dried up split piece of I didn't even taste to discern, I asked a server if she could have them make a new one and she said sure, then came back 5 minutes later and said the cook said that's how all the fried fish comes so I can eat it for free or order the grilled option. So I got the grilled, that came out in less than a minute, these were minuscule chopped up fish chunks. The carne asada taco was burnt chunks. They do have good corn tortillas. My daughter was happy with her birria tacos. The limonada is ok but could use a couple more limons. The fact that the food came out so quickly shows that it's mostly precooked, prepackaged or frozen. It was not crowded and only had 2 tables seated during our dinner. Easy to have conversations. The white and black cow up front is gone. read more

Went here for lunch for the first time with regulars. They were happy with their standard orders. I had the No. 6, two shredded beef taco, bean and rice combination plate. Overall the portion size and taste were reasonable. The bean dip was tasty. I asked for their hotter salsa to spice up the plate. Service was pleasant and prompt. Great food and awesome drinks! Their Birria tacos are super great, and the consume is delicious! We also had the Molcajete with shrimp, steak, and chicken- everything was cooked deliciously and had great flavor. The star of the show was the ceviche stack. Perhaps the blandest guacamole I've ever eaten. Also had two chile rellenos, a combo platter. Also mostly tasteless, and worse, the cheese inside the chile hadn't melted at all, although the rest was cooked. They charge a significant amount of $$ for what was one of the blandest Mexican-American meals I've ever had. They specialize in drinks and shrimp, and we had neither. Perhaps that would've increased the score. The service was good, but only one waitress for about 20 patrons. The food was well-plated, but instead of being flavorful, disappointed. The margarita tasted like it came out of a jug from the local grocery store, the salsa was flavorless, and to make matters worse my daughter's food was served raw. Wife and I were down here in Tucson tonight for her birthday. Decided to give this place a try because of the reviews. Wrong!! The tables were dirty. The salsa had a tang to it that I don't know what they were trying to make. Took forever to get our drinks that obviously we didn't want any ice with our room temperature unsweetened tea with. My carni asada was soo thin. It was literally on the flat top for all but 2 min. Flavorless food all around. I don't know what these people down here in tuscon like. I stopped to eat breakfast at the location on west Valencia ---ordered carne Machaca breakfast and asked to delete the rice and provide me with fried potatoes instead (with added charge of $4). The fired potatoes were cold and mushy. The waitress confirmed my suspicion that the potato was boiled and then cut up into huge chunks which were then slightly singed in oil. I am 68 yo and this is the worst "fried potatoes" I have ever had! The machaca had minimal meat and had scant onions amd an abundance of green bell peppers that overwhelmed the taste buds which ruined the machaca flavor. Thought we'd stop in for a quick dinner bite. Service was not so great. When we walked in two of the wait staff were discussing something about an order. We were standing 3 feet from them, they never acknowledged our presence. We were finally seated and ordered. Took awhile to get our meal. Server said they had received a large on line order, which was the reason for the delay. Meal was average. We asked for a side of guacamole on our order. It was never given to us. Came here to have a casual, end-of-holidays, celebratory meal with friends/family on 1/2/2023. The establishment was about 1/3 occupied, yet service was a bit slow at first. Fortunately the complimentary chips/salsa kept us occupied. Once the six of us ordered, the food arrived in a respectable 15 minutes. The carne quesadilla (which came with lots of guac and sour cream) was a hit as were the chicken enchiladas with plenty of clean, shredded chicken. On the other hand, the carne tacos, while meaty, were barely lukewarm. Ditto for the chili rellano (barely lukewarm and disappointingly not batter-crisp on the outside nor was the chili tender on the inside)... overall echoing other reviewers who complained about "cold" entrees. Most of the meals came with Spanish rice and refried beans. The rice appeared fresh and tasted good and the nifty thing about their refried beans is that they are very creamy (not as thick/dense as typical) and have turmeric added (so they appear more orange as well) - an intriguing twist. Decor is nondescript, large booths were very comfortable with padded seating, and parking was ample around all sides of the establishment. Bottomline, at this high-ish price point, and with this many performance hiccups, Taco Giro won't make our Mexican top-ten list this go-around. read more

The fil is in town and asked for Mexican. We offered a few options but he remembered Taco Giro from last visit and asked to go again. They have a nice indoor area, plus a great patio. As soon as seated you are brought chips, salsa and bean dip. The servers do a good job of not letting you run low. The menu is huge, with soups, salads, mocajete, seafood, breakfast all day and all your combos and burritos and tacos that are staples. The carne asada is always good, never gristly or dry. The green Chile pork is delicious and moist. The daughter loves their albondigous and tortilla soup, which is always filled with veggies plus the meat. I just realized I almost forgot drinks. So happy this Taco Giro has been open for delivery throughout the pandemic. The quality, taste, and portions of the food remained at its highest even when delivered and they always package them well,no mess...during the winter or soup-kinda-days, the seven seas (7 mares) soup def hit the spot! All the food here is very tasty too and some of my faves include their fish tacos combo and the shrimp culichi with rice as well as the shrimp quesadilla. There are plenty of other Taco Giro in town but I feel like the seafood selection here are truly delicious! read more

I have time to write this review now because I finished my lunch and my wife barely got hers because they brought the wrong item . Errr The decor resembles a family Mexican Restaurant from some time between the 1970s and '90s. When we were seated, the table felt a bit tacky, and so did the menus. Sitting at a window booth we were entertained by 3 flies in the window who continued to come see what we were offering. It was difficult to get our waitresses attention for a water refill, even when she was standing at the booth next to me. Once my wife's meal finally arrived the waitress quickly disappeared. We had to flag down another one to ask for Ranch Dressing. It never arrived. Food was ok, but I do suspect the sauce was from a can and I think most of it was pre-packaged for the people in the kitchen. We visited your restaurant on New Years Day (Jan. 1st) and we waited like 30 minutes to order food, Im not sure if it was because we asked for an extra 5 minutes to look over the menu. When I did ask to wait another 5 minutes to look over the menu, the male server was very upset that we asked for more time and he went to the back complaining to the other employees asking why we had come to eat here if we where not going to be ready to order. We waited for a while and they even took another tables order first that came way after we did. The tables where super dirty like if no one was working on cleaning the tables, the table where we sat still had trash under it from the previous people. Not one table was clean and they where not even busy all they where doing was gossiping in the kitchen. Im not sure if the owner would be ok with them complaining that they have customers because if I was the owner of an establishment I would be really happy to be getting customers and would greet them with a smile instead of complaining because they have to work. When we got our food it was cold like if it had been sitting for a long time in the back. This was just no good Mexican food. I honestly do not know how they stay in business. I am not someone who critiques restaurants, but I felt compelled. The drinks were ok, the chips were ok, the bean dip salsa was good, the table salsa was not good. The food was flavorless--I think they must cater to older folks who don't have taste buds anymore (sorry). I really enjoyed Rancho Rustico. When it changed to Taco Giro, I enjoyed that too for a month or two. But now it is time to say that it just isn't working out. The menu is so large that you'd need an hour just to read through it. The staff even seems confused by it at times. I ordered one item but received the "gusto" version of the item instead which included a huge filet of breaded fish. I had hoped for a small plate of shrimp and vegetables but ended up with enough food to feed three people. Even my server commented that the plate is huge. The food was completely lacking in flavor. I added salt but that's not all that it needed. The salsa has no flavor. Beans, no flavor. Vegetables, steamed with zero seasoning. I'm sorry Taco Giro. NEVER AGAIN! I was so excited to bring my BF here after trying the one in Vail. I initially sat at the bar. The bartender acknowledged me when I sat down, but did not bother to clear the dirty dishes in front of me, present me with a menu, or ask me for my drink order. I ordered a skinny margarita. The first one was okay, the second one was made by cutting corners and she added soda water to it. Yuck. We relocated outside as it was insanely cold inside. No one bothered to help us grab our drinks, chips, and dips. We ordered our food, and everything came out at once, even though we specifically noted that certains items were intended to be appetizers. All of the food was mediocre. Pretty sure they add teriyaki sauce to the fajitas. The straw that broke the camels back was being charged for the wrong check at the end. My BF and I split the check. Half of the check went on my card, and his card was charged for a $150 check that wasn't even ours! Getting it sorted out took forever and the manager didn't even apologize. I don't understand the low reviews. We stopped by here on our way up to Mount Lemmon. We loved the bean dip, salsa and chips. I had a mango margarita on the rocks, and hubby had a classic margarita. Doesn't have much of a Mexican vibe with the old fashioned floral bench seats. The menu is huge. It was difficult to decide what to eat. My son and I had a daiquiri and pina colada. He enjoyed his. Mine was a bit strong, but I admits to being a weak drinker. I enjoyed the free bean dip, salsa and nachos. I ordered a combo with chili relleno and a chicken enchilada. It was drowning in sauce. The enchilada was good. The chili relleno didn't have as much breading and cheese as I'm used to. So, it was a bit spicier without the "extras" to distract from it. My son liked his carne asada torta and fries. We paid around $50 with tip for a late lunch. A little pricy but I ate from my meal twice. The waitress was very attentive. Nothing is better than Taco Tuesday at this place! Well except that everything is so delicious you really should frequent it on any day of the week. They have an amazing seafood selection. We stopped in for a late lunch after an outing up to Mt. Lemmon. We were greeted when we walked in the door and taken to our table for six. The menu has about every option for Mexican food that you could want. One exception was mole which one person in our party was hoping to have for lunch. Since I eat low carb, I opted for the salad with chicken, avocado, tomato, sour cream, cheese, and lettuce, of course. It came in a huge taco shell bowl, which I didn't need. Next time I would ask for it without the shell. They were very generous with the tender shredded chicken! I joked that I needed to dig way down to find the lettuce! My husband ordered the wet burrito with carnitas. When it arrived, they had made it with chicken instead. They apologized and took it back to make correctly. While it did take some time to get the food the second time, the carnitas was delicious. They gave him a free yummy dessert flan for having had to wait. Taco Giro is a fun place to hang out and relax without having to drive all the way in town. If I lived in any other town I'd probably rate it higher but in Tucson the bar has been set high. I like to judge Mexican food on the red sauce. Probably not fair, but what they put on their enchiladas or how they make their chili con carne is a big deal. As far as Taco Giro goes I didn't walk away impressed with the sauce, too toned down and thin for my taste, but the enchiladas and tamales were good. You get a lot of value at Taco Giro for your money, and overall it was a good experience. Good food, decent prices, convenient location... we will most certainly be back. read more

This was my first time eating here, and I must say the food was really good. I came with a group of girlfriends and we enjoyed our service just as much as the food. I ordered the cheese enchiladas with beans and rice. It was amazing! The enchilada sauce is homemade with the right amount if spice to it. The rice was good, not dry or flavor less like most places. We came here because we liked the food the last time. So this time we brought a couple friends with us, the food was pretty good, once I got it! We got the new waitress, oh I swear she should've had somebody shadowing her. I had to order my meal three times before they got it right. How hard is it to get the number eight combo plate which is two taquitos. It's not that difficult! They kept bringing me different orders, I don't know who's they were but it definitely was not mine. I was getting really really frustrated. Also, at the end of the meal when we got the bill we were very clear and told her to put $35 on ours and the rest on the other card. She put $25 on our card and the rest on the other card. No apology for the mixup no apology for the number of times she got my order wrong nothing. Oh and also my husband asked for more tortillas for his fajitas and we were also charged $.99 for those as well however she did not advise us of this ahead of time.Needless to say we might not be back here read more
