Michou, you win. 5 stars. Nothing really to add from what I wrote previously. Still awesome sandwiches and salads at great prices. So why the extra star? Zeppoles. Zeppoles aka Italian beignets are a great treat. Cheap too. 4 for $1.50. They are about the closest thing to my beloved malasadas that I have found in these parts. I know there are a couple places that sell malasadas like Kauai Family Restaurant in Georgetown, but this is the most accessible place. And they actually have them daily. Honestly, I don't think malasadas from any place other than Leonard's in Honolulu will ever compare anyway. The zeppoles at Michou are a good alternative and hold me over until I fly home to Hawaii for the real deal. read more

This is my favorite deli in all of Seattle. Michou has the best sandwiches, pasta salads, and pastas. Among my favorites are the chicken and goat cheese sandwich, chicken pesto bake, and arugula and couscous salad. The prices here are great, especially for the quality of the food. They also have a microwave for customers if you want to heat up anything. They will heat the sandwiches upon request. Only downsides are you can't really customize anything since it's all pre-made, so not good if you have food allergies. Also ,there is not a lot of seating, but seeing as it's in the middle of the market, the amount of seating is okay. read more

Perfect timing.....for some reason there was no line the other day, so it was just us. This is what happens when the guy is too busy playing with his phone and not paying attention to the panini press. When I got back to my office, this is what my sandwich looked like. Dang, the next time I want a sandwich for a picnic in Seattle I'm gonna be stopping at Michou! Some pretty good lookin' eats! Found this place when we couldn't find a seat at Le Panier French Bakery right next door. Walked in and at first we thought it was extended seating. Turns out, Michou is another bakery! Specializing in sandwiches and salads especially for take out. Glad we accidentally stopped on in! Michou was a bit unassuming, the decor of the place is nothing fancy at all like Le Panier. The beauty? Michou's refrigerated display case! Some of the prettiest sandwiches and dishes I've ever laid my eyes on! So bright, so magnificent, so tasty fresh looking. The wifey and I thought we just had to sample some bites here! It was breakfast time and already Michou's case was full of wonderful tasty sandwiches and eats. Really, if we had the time, we would have brought a basket and a blanket because their food begs to be eaten outside in the cool Seattle air. Which coincidentally is what most folks do. Of course, Michou does have some inside seating with a limited number of stools. We sat down with our Le Panier stuff in tow, but weren't going to sit without buying some Michou goodies (there is a sign too that doesn't welcome outside food...ha ha). But they had no problems with our French stuff as long as we were purchasing patrons at Michou too. I already had my baguette from Le Panier but was almost regretting it seeing the display case at Michou. So many yummy looking sandwiches! I just couldn't choose! Luckily the wifey saw something she really wanted to try. We ended up getting a portobello mushroom breakfast sandwich with egg. Stuffed along with roasted red peppers, fontina cheese, and fresh greens it looked delicious. Also you have the choice of getting your sandwich placed on the panini press for some grill marks and crunch, which we did! Wow...one of the yummiest breakfast sandwiches I've tried! Meaty portobello, light scrambled egg, sweet roasted peppers, with the crunch from the greens...ding ding ding....winner! Bread was light but substantial with the panini press giving it some good texture. We finished that sandwich easy! Cheap too for Seattle standards, just under $6. Value! I wish I was able to stop by Michou again at my leisure. There was just so much to do in a weekend in Seattle we just didn't have time. But I will be back for sure to Michou the next time I'm ever in Seattle again for my panini fix. Things that I remember I want to try: -Roasted Chicken sandwich -Turkey Bacon sandwich -Teriyaki Tofu sandwich -Roast Beef Gorgonzola sandwich -Thai Beef sandwich -Quinoa salad -Ratatouille salad -Spanish Chicken salad All of them looked so pretty! I really, really, really wish we had a little deli like this in the Olympia area. I swear we are so deprived of sandwich, salad, and deli shops. Anyway, this little place was amazing. SO MANY CHOICES. From healthy to calorie laden, there was something for everyone. Prices were very decent. Even though there were a lot of people in line, it moved quickly. Big, fresh, round, sandwiches. Michou displays several made sandwiches in a display case stacked on one another with several sides and desserts to choose from. I didn't think this place was the best thing ever. I actually give it 3.5 stars. I was excited to see that they had arcancini balls, but when I tried them I was a little disappointed. I wish the outside of the balls were more crispy they were a bit soft and crumbly. The desserts were okay and the roasted chicken sandwich was good. If you're in the mood for a sandwich, I recommend this place. But if you're looking to get your food palate's mind blown, but the place to go. read more

If everything in Pike Place's has a huge line, don't hesitate to try this place. They have a variety of foods and a great selection of sandwiches. Love that they have small portions too so you can try more items such as side salads or pasta. Not only is the food good but the prices are reasonable. I found this place just by wondering around and avoiding the Piroshky line. I'm so glad I found this gem! I love delis like this and they're difficult to find. We ended up going back 3 times over 4 days. I tried the autumn wheat berry salad, mushroom couscous salad, orange polenta cake, blueberry bread pudding, goat cheese and pecan pastry and strawberry short cake. Everything was delicious! I wish there was a deli like this near my house...but then again, maybe my waistline thanks me that there isn't. Lovely deli where the only minus is during tourist season the line is excruciatingly low. That and sometimes the staff arbitrarily misses you in line and calls on the person after you first. A Saturday afternoon of a holiday weekend was not the best time to try and find a place to eat in Seattle, but we somehow managed to find our way to Michou (which was all my friend wanted to eat) and we even got 3 seats at their counter (which seats maybe 6). How we did it, I don't know, but it worked out very well and the sandwiches were AMAZING. I got a whole Sierra Chicken which had smoked chicken, chipotle mayo, red onion, and (I think) swiss or provalone. Only $6. I love that it came panini style. I was not expecting that. My friends got sandwichs with pesto mayo; one with cranberries, pears, and brie; and another that I can't recall, but let's face it, there is NOT a bad sandwich in the house. The soup was tasty as well. For dessert I got us one of the coconut and chocolate dessert bars. It was a Niaman Bar, or something close to that. If you find yourself hungry at the Public Market, walk down a ways an hit up Michou. You shant regret it. read more

Cheap sandwiches here, yet so filling. These aren't the best sandwiches I've ever had, but for the price I think they hit the right spot. I ordered the Sierra sandwich and it comes with roasted chicken, smoked gouda, tomato, red onion, chipotle mayo & greens. They must have found the right combination because something so simple brought so much joy to my palette. There wasn't much of a line when I went in at 12pm so finding a spot to sit wasn't too much trouble. They have about 8 seats in front and 5 seats in back. Hands down one of my favorite lunch spots in downtown Seattle! A large variety of sandwiches and sides that all look appetizing, it's so hard to choose sometimes. My coworkers and I have decided that each time we visit, we need to try something new. I usually try to get there before the lunch rush (around 11:30ish), but the line moves pretty quickly for the most part. Minimum seating is available, so this is definitely more of a on-the-go lunch! Walking in, the display looked so enticing and yummy. There was only 1 person ahead of me in line. My hopes were high and I was super excited to get my food, a warmed up crispy chicken sandwich. When I got my food, I sat down and started eating immediately. Not only was it lukewarm on the outside and cold on the inside, the breading of the chicken was soggy but crumbly at the same time. Seemed like a really old freezer burned chicken patty was used in my sandwich. The bread was really good and so was the pesto sauce, but the chicken made it hard to fully enjoy. My partner ordered the same thing and didn't eat his until 2 hours later, with the same feedback about the chicken breading. Must have been a bad batch. I think it works better as a panini, which is what we did with the turkey bacon. They also serve breakfast which looks good too. Okay, now that I got that out the way, let me start by saying that Michou (mee-shoo) is definitely my favorite panini sandwich deli in Seattle. I'm really drawn to the charm and small business vibe of this single-stand establishment- something you wouldn't get at a Specialty's or Potbelly chain. It's a great grab-and-go lunch option for people that work nearby, and for people cruising through the market. I spend on average about $12 for lunch here when I come around, which is perfectly reasonable. You can get a whole panini for about $8. I like to order a vegetable side from the deli too; the smallest container adds about another $4 to the total depending on what your choose. There's clearly a touristy atmosphere here, especially during summer months. Always a line going out the door too. The place underwent a recent remodeling, so the inside looks much more sleek and polished up. If you're looking for a panini sandwich, give this place a try. And again, stop saying Pike's Place Market. read more
