Great burgers. LOVE the milkshakes. Service is great. Charcoal burgers are definetly the way to go. Those are my favorite burgers.

When I was a wee little one, my dad used to go here for lunch a lot since it was near his office, and sometimes I'd get to meet him here. Awesome flame grilled hamburgers in a greasy spoon diner. Mickey-Lu's is a gem. Its a charming burger joint that takes you back in time. The burgers are flame grilled, served on a perfect bun with the works and their famous pad of butter. Sorry, but the previous favorable reviews appear to be nostalgia related, not based on good food or knowledge of actual bar-b que. This place doesn't sell bar-b-que anything. It sells small burgers with added paddies of butter, and calls itself a bar-b-que joint. If you have been anywhere south of Chicago and expect real bar-b-que, of any style, don't go here. After living in the area for 20+ years I finally agreed give this place a try and I can honestly say this will be the first and last time I ever step foot in Micky Lu's. The service was terrible....no greeting's , no "we'll be with you in a moment" nothing. We sat for 10 minutes before the waitress rolled her eyes and actually came and took our order. We got our thimble full of soda (I've seen kids sized sodas bigger that what we were served) and that was the last contact we had with our waitress. Fast forward 40 minutes and we STILL don't have our food. Again no "I'm sorry it's taking so long" no "we apologise we are running a little behind" nothing. Not even eye contact from the 2 weight staff that passed by. While waiting for our food I was disgusted by the "cleaning" practice of one of the staff. Same cloth to wipe both the seats and the table which by the way he threw across the room and almost hit a patron walking by. Whatever food/crumbs were on the table got wiped onto the floor to be walked over. We finally got our food as we were standing by the register ready to pay for our drinks and go eat somewhere else. Wish we would have stuck with that plan . Did not expect frozen hockey pucks from a place that "raves" about it's burgers. I thought it would be fresh burger sized pattties. A must stop when in the area. Mickey Lu's is an authentic 50's throw back with a juke box stocked with oldies along with vintage decor to keep you interested. But the main reason people have been going to Mickeys for over 70 years... the burgers and malts are excellent! read more

Family trip to the "beach" last Sunday. We decided this place was too interesting to pass up. We had never heard of Mickey-Lu's before, so we had no expectations. From the moment we stepped inside, we were all enamoured with the place. First of all, we're suckers for old stuff, and right down to the countertops, Mickey'Lu-s is a gem. Juke box, malts, towels in the bathroom, counter with stools... this place hasn't been updated since 1972 and thank God for that! It was awesome and charming and exactly what you'd hope for in an old fashioned burger and malts shop. Food was delish. We will be back. read more

Let's start with the best part - the building. This tiny diner is a piece of Americana that time has forgotten. I've never seen such a well preserved restaurant that apparently hasn't changed in over 50 years! The handmade milk shakes are awesome, smooth and creamy and not at all gritty. My only disappointment was with the burgers. They're the skinny little flat ones you get at fast food places. The redeeming factor is the way they're cooked - over a charcoal fire, giving the burgers a real char-grilled, smokey flavor. It's a shame all this effort isn't used on a quality 1/3 lb freshly ground beef patty. But then it wouldn't be the authentic Mickey Lu's I guess. They don't do fries just chips (too bad I bet they would be awesome). Great value and good old fashion service. You really must stop here just for the experience. read more

If what you are craving is a burger done right this is the place. The burger I had was perfect. From the nice grill flavor on the fresh meat to the nice bun and condiments, everything was about as good as you can get. The burgers are not large so you may want a few. Great malts also which go really well with the burgers. read more

The burgers have deteriorated into small hockey pucks. The consistency of the toppings are overwhelming as far as the amount drowning out the burger. The chocolate malts are very good, however, that doesn't make a whole meal. read more

This place is just real and relish, buttered buns and just fatty goodness. My mom was a little kid- like the1950s-when she first started coming here, its heritage. Not much of the originals are left in that area. I like it. Tastes like the oven that they cook it in. How do u go wrong. Its fresh, homemade heritage. Bomb diggity .... Wish they served beer, but, hey- I'm a capitalist-thinkin they could make more $ and what's better than a burger n a beer? But...this place is straight tradition! I'll take it O:-) read more

I would recommend the double cheeseburgers if you are in a pinch and need to grab something. They are small and my husband could have easily eaten two. The charbroiled flavor was good but kind of greasy also. The burgers come with ketchup, mustard, onion & pickle. FYI they do not have mayo, lettuce or tomatoes. No fries here. I DO NOT recommend the brauts or hot dogs. They are frozen and microwaved then put on the fire grill which is all fine but the flavor is just not the greatest. I was so excited for the chocolate malt as I read other reviews describing them as the best they ever had, however I found them mediocre and somewhat of a weird "fake" flavor aftertaste. Not sure how else to describe it. Extra star for cool atmosphere and friendly workers. read more

Wow!!! the burger was juicy and had that flavor of real home cook burgers, not that Micky D's crap. With everything on it, I was amazed at the fact fact that it was so delicious, especially since I dont do mustard. The only problem is the patties were so small, even for the double. For almost 5 on a burger, I think it deserved more meat. Oh well. I am going there again today and probably once a week until i get burnt out from this burger read more

If you haven't been to Mickey Lu's yet, where have you been? The same restaurant has been around since 1942 serving delicious burgers and arguably the best malts in the area. Mickey Lu's in Marinette still uses the same bun recipe, grinds their own meat, uses real ice cream, and charcoal grills the burgers. They were also named in the USA Today's "51 great burger joints!" The taste simply cannot be beat and is another must-stop in the area. read more

I feel bad for all the reviewers on here giving this place a poor rating. Poor folks have no soul. Dry burgers?? Is that guy crazy? MELTED BUTTER oozes out and drips down your elbows ya clown! It must be nice to be so successful that you can ration your product to customers. We called in to order 9 burgers and were told that they wouldn't take the order because they were getting busy. We then walked in with the order and were limited to ONLY FOUR. Is this where the Soup Nazi from Seinfeld ended up? "No burgers for you!" I wonder what would have happened were three customers to walk in and order three burgers each? The food is good, but not THAT GOOD, I'll probably not be back. read more

There's a huge sign that says "BBQ" and it's even in the name. But....There is NO BBQ food what-so-ever! Don't waste your time. Hamburgers & Hotdogs, 8 oz soda and refills aren't free. That's about it. read more

My mom and I were recently visiting my aunt in Marinette WI. She's in her 80's, mom in her 70', me in my 40's. For our first lunch together, we stopped at Mickey Lu's. INCREDIBLE. Never had a burger like it. We then had dinner there that night. It wasn't enough. We ended up there EVERY day for lunch for 8 days (except Monday, they're not open). You can not imagine the taste until you are there for yourself. Its not just for the kids. We craved the burgers. This is not a stop-as-you-go-by sort of place. Mickey-Lu's. Great for alot of reasons! Great butter burgers. My Grandfather took me to Mickey-Lu's fifty years ago. I stop by every time we come to Marinette. It is NOSTALGIC, looks exactly like it did when it opened in 1942. Same recipes for charbroiled burgers, chips, malts. I always get two cheeseburgers. No frills, no fries, just chips. Same jukeboxes on the counter top. Took my wife on a Saturday nite, it was 8PM and the joint was busy, teens, young and old adults. Everyone in Marinette's eats at Mickey's. Even tho it was busy the owner stopped by to talk, service was fast. McDonalds and Culvers were a half mile away, but I go to Mickey-Lu's. Nostalgic, yes, but yummy, butter burgers and malts. read more

Always wanted to stop here on our way from the Chicago area to the Upper Pennisula and this time the timing was right to stop on our way back. We stopped in and the temperature outside was about 70 degrees and their blowing air conditioner unit had it even chillier inside on a July summer day -- not too inviting. As we were deciding where to sit, my eyes began to burn and then it began to hit the rest of my family. The girl behind the counter told us that we should probably sit up front because it would be farther away from the onions that were burning our eyes. As we were crying, we were going to try to sit in a booth-like area that the 5 of us could all sit together, but I couldn't even fit into between the seat and the table and I'm not that big. We were out of there shortly after (our eyes still burning) so my rating is based on the atmosphere, not on the food which we will never try because we won't be back. read more

I grew up with Mickey Lu's and I might be biased by nostalgia, but nothing beats a burger and shake from here!

Simply the best. The burger patty itself is rather thin, but what makes it special is the pat of butter inside and the fresh, crunchy bun. It's a gestalt. Malts are good, too, but I miss the days when you got the malt in the metal shaker as well as the glassful. They don't serve fries, but I for one don't miss them. I love that the burgers come wrapped in paper. read more

We have been driving through Marinette for the past 10 years, often staying overnight on our way from Minneapolis to Traverse City, MI. Two years ago we were approaching the WI / MI border and found a review for Mickey-Lu online. We were all impressed by the quality of the charcoal grilled burgers and bratwurst, and the hand scooped malts were fantastic...all at prices too low to be believed! Now, instead of just a drive-by, we have made Mickey-Lu's a destination. It's a nice waypoint on a twelve plus hour drive. Can't wait to get back there this summer! PS: if you are inside the restaurant when the phone rings, it's a real treat. They have the old wall-mounted AT&T phone with a rotary dial.
