Absolutely horrible service. Don't waste your time. I'd say don't waste your money, but they evidently weren't interested in taking any orders the day I went. Waited over 25 minutes and not one of the 3 wait staff even paused to say "hello" or "Hi, we'll be right with you". They took call in orders over the phone instead of helping those waiting in line to place orders. What a complete waste of time. This was my first attempt at Mickey-Lu-Bar-B-Q (which by the way does not serve any BBQ!) and it was my last. What a shame. New cliental keeps a business growing. A miniature restaurant for miniature people with miniature appetites. So okay, this is a diner. I've been to diners before. This one is dull and tiny. The seats are really, really small. I tried to sit by the counter, but unless you're about 5'2", your knees will bang into the under counter. So we sat at a booth instead. We were still scrunched in. Anyway...the food... So if you bring your appetite to this place, you had better bring your wallet too. A double burger here is not much bigger than a Mc double burger, but will cost you 3 times the price. It does taste good, but if you're hungry you'll need about 3 of them. The waitress asked what I wanted on my burger and I said, "lettuce, tomato...", and she said, "We don't have lettuce or tomato." So I asked what they DO have. Pickles, ketchup, mustard, onion, was I guess the size of it. So that is what I got. And they don't sell french fries. Can you believe that?! I was truly amazed at that one. No fries with your burger folks. You can buy a weensie little bag of potato chips if you gotta. They serve homemade shakes, but I didn't have one. What I did have was a good dose of the waitress slamming down the redi-whip back into the cooler at great volume. Service was not much. The waitresses seemed in a bad mood. Maybe they were having a bad day. Who knows. So to say I was disappointed in this establishment is truly accurate. I read many glowing reviews and was looking forward to a good, hearty, American fast food lunch at great prices. The building is quaint. Cramped and interesting as a diner might be from the 1940s. From there on it all goes downhill. The burgers are so small and bun that accompanied it left me wondering if they forgot to put meat on it. Sadly 24 hrs later (give or take an hour or two) Both my son and I became VIOLENTLY ILL and threw up. Neither of us had eaten except for those buns with just a speck of meat in between. Went here w my wife because her folks always took her there when she was young. The place is small and always busy. The burgers are small but good so get more than one if you're hungry. Plenty of parking and you may even have to eat in your car. I would also recommend to call ahead of you are going to carry out. The wait for a carry-out was 45 min, we found a table and were in and out in a half hour, not bad. They seemed under staffed so there was not a lot of chit-chat. A simple burger place. Absolutely no BBQ in sight, so not sure why it is named as it is. Burger had good char flavor but was small and greasy - get a double if you go since they are small burgers. Our son told us we needed to try this place, so we decided to take a ride on our anniversary & have lunch there. We liked the atmosphere & the waitresses were friendly, but were very disappointed in the size of the burger. We enjoyed the charcoal flavor & the bun was good, but if there were 2 oz. of meat I'd be surprised. Hardee's is a couple blocks down the street. They have charbroiled burgers which cost slightly more but you can actually taste the meat. Wish we would have tried a milkshake. read more

I dug it. The atmosphere, the smell outside as you pull in to your parking space. It's not a quarter pounder, that's for sure (and thank gosh it wasn't!) The joint was busy. I had a chocolate malt, heaven in a glass. The only down side, no fries or onion rings. The nostalgia made up for it. I guess, if you have a good burger... what else do you need? They would need to change the building to accomadate a fryer. One of the articles on the wall explains that every day, they still grind the meat fresh in the basement. I grew up in the area, and have loved Mickey-Lu's my whole life. The first thing you need to know, is that the establishment has remained the same for as long as it's been standing. Which, if you take the time to read all the articles and history posted on the walls, is a long time. This also means, the burgers are small and there are no fries - just bags of chips. But, to us, this is what makes it great. The burgers are excellent. Don't go here and not get the butter on your burger - its this touch that makes it Wisconsin through and through. More fat, but oh, the flavor! And the malts are excellent. Even though they have more on their menu than just burgers and malts, I've never felt the need to order anything else in the countless times I've eaten there. I always order 2 cheeseburgers, with the works (ketchup, mustard, pickles, onions, cheese) and a chocolate malt. And it never disappointing. Also, I've never had bad service. And if you get a chance to see the owner working over the grill, he is a super friendly guy. Summary: Even though the restaurant has things that seem unfavorable to the modern restaurant-goer, this place has been around forever, and this is what gives Micky-Lu's its charm. Can't get enough of these EVER! If you can get into this place (always Packed!) you are in for a real treat. These burgers are simply the best tasting burger around. Dripping with butter, the thin patties are the perfect thickness and texture. The grilled taste is unsurpassed. If you pass through Marinette and DON'T stop off at Mickey Lu's, you will carry that shame with you for the rest of your life. 30 years ago I used to live within walking distance of Mickey Lu's and I made the walk several times per week. First of all, at night with their neon blazing, the place looks like it was ripped from an 80's ZZ Top video. But the food is what kept me coming back. Actually, I should say it was the burgers. I never ate anything but the hamburgers. I'm sure the other stuff on the menu was great, too, but I was hooked on the burgers. The burgers are grilled on a charcoal grill and have a pat of butter in with the works. The buns are delicious, toasted just right! A cheeseburger runs about 2 bucks, and is worth even more. I live on a beef farm, and I was impressed with the quality and flavor of the beef. The chocolate malt was like stepping back in time, it's made with real ice cream and was delicious! Walking into this place is like taking a step back in time. It has all 50s style decor. The burgers are grilled on an open-flame charcoal grill. Yes, the burgers are small. If you are very hungry, order two. Also, do not ask for fries. They do not have fries, nor will they ever. Why not? It's tradition. It's how it has always been. I know when I first took my 6'3" boyfriend, they waitress asked if we had ever been there, and when he said he hadn't the first thing she said was, "oh you'll want at least two." This place looks exactly the same as it did 40 years ago. It's like a small old diner that serves cheap burgers and amazing malts. The family was headed to Door County from the Madison area. Had heard great things about Mickey-Lu-Bar-B-Q so we took a detour (45 minutes farther north than we needed to go) to check it out. It was well worth it. The place was packed on a Sunday at 3 PM which tells you enough. Great Burgers and Malts. On the front it said "Bar-B-Q" in BIG letters! Go inside & ask for a menu & the waitress said it's posted on the wall. I asked about the Bar-B-Q. She said they don't have any Bar-B-Q, just grilled burgers & brats. WHAT? No Bar-B-Q? Asked for a burger & fries & the waitress said no fries....just chips! Then she said you might want a double because they were thin! WHAT! THIN? Asked for fried onions & she said only raw! WHAT! We should've just got up then & left! Ate today at this restaurant. I was embarrassed since I talked my girlfriend into going. We were talked into ordering more than wanted by the waitress who told us the burgers were small- they were average. The quality of the "meat" was lacking (this may be kind)- perhaps there is one less raccoon in town.
