I knew the owners personally by their first name (Hi Tom) before they became a national superstore chain. I knew them when the internet was a baby, you didn't need more than 64 kilobytes for a computer, and a 5.25" floppy disk could hold more than enough for your program. They were sponsors of our Apple Computer User Group (COACH) in the day. They are good people, dependable and trustworthy, and their 30-day return policy cannot be beat. Very disappointed with their service process. Seems disorganized. Tech work may be OK but experience was terrible. Took a laptop to get a new battery. Took 11 days, 4 just to get a battery. When attempting to pick it up, their service kiosk didn't recognize my name, email or phone which are clearly listed on my receipt. I discovered they lost my computer power cord. I later received a text from the service department saying they found it, but when I went to pick it up (2nd trip) no one in service could find it. They gave me a new generic power cord off the shelf that didn't fit my computer. I later returned it to them. After calling, the Service Mgr found my cord in a bin of leftover power cords (wonder who else this has happened to???) I made my a 3rd trip to MC to pick it up. Based on this experience, I will never go to Micro Center again and recommend others go somewhere else. read more

I normally don't leave negative reviews, but this was a frustrating experience. I purchased a computer here that had random crashing issues almost immediately after purchase. I brought it back within the return window and was told they could not fix it and that I needed to contact the manufacturer directly. I attempted to do that, but the manufacturer was overseas and never provided meaningful support. Months later I brought the computer back again, and the store acknowledged the issue by taking it in, but ultimately told me there was nothing they could do. What disappointed me most was not just the defective product, but the complete lack of accountability or customer support after the sale. I made multiple good-faith attempts to resolve the issue and ended up stuck with a malfunctioning computer and no real help from either the store or manufacturer. I would strongly recommend being cautious when purchasing electronics here, especially products where warranty or technical support may depend on overseas manufacturers.What makes this even more disappointing is that I originally came in intending to buy a different computer that was actually less expensive and in stock. The sales associate strongly pushed me toward this GMKTEC system instead, presenting it as the better option. It turned out to be one of the worst electronics purchases I've made. It's probably been 20 years since I walked into a micro center. But despite the general decline of retail, I found that this place delivered to pretty decent experience. I was offered customer service that was both ample and non-invasive and found what I needed to support my travel plans. I was a bit surprised that they had a selection of niche garana-based beverages, but I guess they know their (gamer) audience. I didn't have the easiest time finding price labeling for certain items and they were out of some basic items in the area of chargers and cables that I needed. But overall, it was a much better experience than I've had walking into Best Buy lately. read more

I love Micro Center, they truly are the best tech store around. I have come here for my laptop, my pc, pc upgrades, mouse, keyboard, mic, you name it. If it is technology other than my phone. I got it here. The people there are always so nice and helpful and I feel like they actually all know what they're talking about unlike people at Best Buy. I don't know that much about the workings of my pc but whenever I go in and tell them what's going on they always steer me in the right direction. I one time, I am sad to say, did not come here when Prime Days were going on and I bought a new mouse, mic, and keyboard from Amazing which were all trash. So I return them all and came straight here and everything I got worked amazing. Micro center is a massive computer store. It has other tech too, but computers seem to be the biggest focus. There's a section exclusively dedicated to building your own pc piece by piece or you can get a bundle to build your own. So many cases, graphics cards, fans, and more. The staff is weirdly professionally dressed and carry business cards. They can do your shopping for you if you have a list already made. A little toobeager to help as we didn't really want help. A little confusing looking for some items that were incorrectly listed online as well as an odd duplicate listing online with different pricing that made our search a bit harder. Run, don't walk, AWAY from the service center at this location. I'm stunned at how little they knew about fixing a keyboard on a Dell laptop. It took them a week to misdiagnose the problem. Then I took it back to them again and they decided it would take another week to totally replace to keyboard. Not wanting to wait another week, I went to Geek Squad. They looked at the computer, typed in a solution to fix an apparently "well known" glitch in Windows and solved my keyboard issues. Took two minutes and they didn't even charge me. Made an appointment at the Columbus Knowledge Bar for a diagnostic. I emailed twice with no reply and tried calling (you can't call the store directly). Drove 45 mins each way just to have them say, to leave the item, and they would get to it in a week or so. Why make an appointment to just drop off? They did not answer my emails. I came in for a repair and was not informed until after i approved the repairs that it would be a 2 week delay. I paid for a backup of my drive which i was upcharged for last minute, and my drive came back missing files. The files that were stored on a separate drive were returned to me damaged. Moreover, they installed Norton antivirus on my computer that slowed it down to the point of crashing again. Very disappointed in the service I received. read more

Ever bought a product from a store that knew the product would not work? I did. Yesterday I purchased an HP ink jet printer at the Micro Center store on Bethel Rd in Columbus, Ohio. After my IT consultant and I unpacked the printer, we were unable to find a black ink cartridge. As he worked on setting up the printer I scrambled to the nearest store selling HP ink cartridges to buy a black ink cartridge. After inserting the ink cartridge, my IT consultant was unable to start up the printer. After a lengthy call to the HP support center, he realized we needed the one that came with the computer as it's programmed to initialize, calibrate and prime the device. He then noted a small label on the box "missing Set Up black ink". Without the original black cartridge, the product could not operate. Today I confronted the Micro Center Bethel Road manager stating "you sold me a product you knew would not work." He hemmed and hawed, mumbling about a distant warehouse. I asked for compensation for the printer, the black ink cartridge and my consultant's time. He would only refund what I'd paid for the printer itself (about a third of my total expenses yesterday). I don't understand why after only a little more than two years I need a new NIC installed on my desktop so that I can connect to Spectrum. I purchased a non- name brand desktop and regret it. I wish that I had spent a little more on an HP or Dell instead of the Micro Center brand desktop. The cost of repairs is apt to offset any savings that I might have realized from purchasing a generic product. Also, I didn't like the way the technician whom I paid to set up my desktop installed Microsoft 365. When it came time to renew 365, I experienced insurmountable technical issues because the technician opted to take short cuts during the setup process. I ended up not renewing 365 because I couldn't figure out how to renew the license using the bogus email address he set me up with. If only this technician had contacted me to inquire about my current id information that I had been using for many years previously with Microsoft. While the shortcut perhaps saved him time, it created considerable frustration for me. I'm uncertain whether I'd be willing to purchase another devise through Micro Center given my bad experiences with them. For all our sakes, I hope there is better for us. read more

I am personally a fan of Micro Center myself. I purchased my Lenovo Laptop here. Plenty of parking and really attentive staff. Still not sure if the are just that helpful and attentive or just making sure you don't jack anything. Maybe both?! Unfortunately this visit was a busy. We brought in my partners Microsoft Surface and they were unable to work on those as they have to be sent off to Microsoft due to the way the are built. Good to know but was hoping they could fix. I've actually never been to MicroCenter before, so I didn't really know what to expect. My partner and his brother are very into tech, so this was a visit to upgrade his PC. If you haven't been, the best way I can describe it is like a Giant Eagle but tech instead of groceries. It has more of a grocery store vibe and more of a people-who-shop-here-actually-know-what-they're-doing kind of vibe than Best Buy. That's my non-tech summation lol. They have a very large, well-labeled selection. I saw several deals and most items marked with a price tag individually. They don't carry the fans my partner was hoping for, but an employee was happy to walk him through alternatives. I also appreciated that they have little signs that show who maintains each area. To me, it shows a value of accountability as well as due credit. I hope this location makes an effort to hire more women. I saw several employees and all were men. They were chill, would just be a much more comfortable environment if there were more women around. I honestly wouldn't come here by myself. read more

Decided to run over to Micro Center to get a modem for my house. Me I love Micro Center, geek city and I could spend days there easily and never be bored. Went to the modem aisle, Avery was restocking another aisle but dropped everything to come help me. He was super knowledgeable and gave me some plus's and minus's to several models. The good thing about employees here, they aren't pressuring you to buy the most expensive models. My review is solely for the Micro Center store and our purchases, not the service department as we have never used them. This place is our go to, especially my husband's for any kind of computer/technology related purchase. Other than it being hard to get ahold of a worker sometimes, the items we have bought here have been great. We have purchased several open box items here also for good prices that never had issues. I also love how the media/micro cards and USBs cost a fraction of the price here compared to other places and are usually available at the checkout counter. read more

I shot him my ideas and he was able to show me specs that were ideal and even found open box deals and more. I left with all the parts I need and was even able to save a hundred dollars on sales, bundles, and open box deals. Original review (Mar 30, 2024): Micro Center does not honor their Price Protection policy on an item that was bought less than 2 weeks before the price dropped $60. Chat, phone, email support is nonexistent, and keeps feeding me generic messages and straight lies that I will "get a call from the store tomorrow" or just keeps ignoring me in the chat. The first ticket created on Mar 26th, and this still has not been resolved, I did not receive any calls. So it's been 4 days and I still didn't get the $60 refund, and can no longer return the item for a full refund, because the return window has closed! This is just outrageous at this point! This is a textbook example of shady business practices. I filed FTC fraud complaint, I hope Micro Center will be fined for this nonsense. The item was shipped from this store, so I hold this store accountable. Update (April 2, 2024): Micro Center did call me to resolve this issue, waiting for the refund to be processed. This doesn't change the fact that this the whole thing dragged on for so long (instead of a few minutes with support), that I was not able to do the return for a full refund, which feel like a shady business practice. read more

06-03-2021 Visited Microcenter for the first time in years to pick up some random items for my dad. I can't say enough good things about this place. There was a line outside for a video card drop, and the entire process was handled in a professional and efficient manner by the staff. All of my questions were answered - multiple times in some cases when I didn't understand what the staff told me the first times (I'm older and stubborn). I was passed along to someone who helped find a bunch of smaller items I needed. There were lots of options. Nobody tried to upsell me. No high pressure tactics. Lots of options and every one was explained with a reason. Oh, and they even had a few 3080 video cards left over after the rush! read more

Suddenly I could not login to my desktop Dell computer. During booting computer comes up on the black screen message: - "PIN was missing". All my efforts to start the computer came to nothing, and on February 14 I took the computer for diagnostics to the Microcenter Repair Shop. I paid $40 non-refundable fee and 5 days later I received an SMS message: - OS Windows corrupt, needs reinstallation Windows. it will cost $99+tax. I took the computer back home and tried to play with this machine in my free time. I found out why the computer did not start because two drives, one SSD and one Hard drive, were locked with Bitlocker. After a long struggle, I managed to remove the Bitlocker from both disks, but the computer still did not start, as it turned out I had damaged the BIOS. I had to take the computer again to the Microcenter Repair Shop to have the system reinstalled on the computer. When I came to pick up the computer, I asked to turn it on and show that reinstalled Windows are activated. After turning on computer comes out, Windows has two users account none of those under my name. Knowledge Bar guys said: - sorry, we will fix it in a half-hour. 40 minutes later I came to pick up computer. The next day, at home it turned out a problem with the Windows Update, - Error Encountered, pops message: - "There were some problems installing updates, but we'll try again later". I got tired of carrying the computer back and forth and I called Home Office Microcenter Technical Support by phone. Tech support technician logged into my computer by remote and tried to fix this problem for two hours, after which he advised me to take the computer back to Microcenter. At Microcenter, Knowledge Manager (Head of Repair Department) start fooling me, - "Not to worry about, don't pay attention to it, Windows 10 is old program it's exhausted, Microsoft not supported Win 10 anymore". This update requires 250 MB of free space in the recovery partition to install successfully. If the recovery partition does not have sufficient free space, this update will fail. Before picking up the computer from repair, I asked the technician to increase the volume of partition, but he refused to do so. I don't know how to do it and he's just too lazy to do it because the money for the repairs has already been paid. I want to remind, this conversation happening in March 2024 not in 2025 when Windows 10 PCs won't be able to get updated after October 14, 2025. Among other things, I would like to note that the computer has two disks, one SSD with the OS on it and the second Hard drive for storing information, the technician who installed Windows could wipe out the information from the SSD and install Windows again on this disk, but save the information on the Hard drive, but he erased both disks. I want to share my thoughts - If something happens to your computer, don't rush to take it to Microcenter for repairs, first of all, they will charge you non-refundable money for diagnostics, then plus money for repairs, and if they screw up with the repair, then it's almost impossible to get the money back for repairs. read more

this is for tech support only. i got been getting errors on the two digit led on the motherboard that is a sign if instability. I replaced multiple cpu, memory, and motherboard. I was still getting the memory instability. I could not figure it out. so I had Micro Center to take a look. they did nothing. it was a waste of 80 dollars. the could not even figure out how to the internal graphics. My experience was just kind of "meh"? My partner and I were looking for a desktop computer, we had done our research at home, and just needed to come pick something out. We figured there'd be salespeople coming after us, but holy cow, we (politely) shoo'd away three in the first five minutes of being in the computer section. I get it, they have to make a buck, but one guy was coming over to check on us every five minutes. It was getting pretty annoying, and made me feel less like he wanted to help and more like he wanted to make a sale. By the third time he came around, we had decided on what computer we wanted and were looking at monitors. He asked again if we needed help, and we said we were just about finished and wrapping up. He saw us looking at a couple monitors and asked what we were getting a computer for. I didn't wanna go into a ton of detail, so I said "some basic stuff, nothing too crazy," and he immediately started showing us a cheaper monitor, because the one we were looking at was "for gaming". I reluctantly told him we were planning on doing some light gaming as well. At this point, he shifted to talking about how the Dell computer we had been looking at wasn't for gaming because "it doesn't have a graphics card, if you're going to game you'll need a graphics card," and starts explaining the difference of a GPU and CPU to us. Look, I'm definitely not a computer expert, but A. I know the difference between a GPU and CPU, and B. We weren't even looking at the computer he described. The one we picked out had both a CPU and GPU, and was labeled as a "gaming" computer. At this point, my partner and I both kind of said "Okay, thanks," and wandered away awkwardly. I wish Hassan had respected our wishes to be left alone and not jumped into assumptions about my knowledge. We ended up buying our stuff online and picking it up at the front desk, in lieu of working with a salesperson. Left a bad taste in my mouth, and I'm hoping I don't have a reason to go back anytime soon.
