It's been years since I needed to purchase a PC and I had some idea of what I wanted. Our sales person, Travis, was very helpful without being pushy. He asked a lot of questions about how I plan to use the PC and what peripheral items I needed to attach. Once we had the specs we looked at a few PCs under several brands. Because I don't need video graphics or engineering software, he steered me away from the high end costly units. Settled in an ASUS Vivobook. He also had a cost effective solution for my Ethernet connect requirements. There was no hard sell on the extended warranty coverage, which I declined. I have shopped at Microcenter for awhile. I never used their service department until a few weeks ago, and after my experience with them I will no longer be shopping here again. I took my Macbook air in for diagnostics, and my computer was returned in terrible condition. When putting the back it appears they did not things back together well and the screw was overtightened. It appears that they also dropped it at some point. As a trusting customer I did not inspect it at the store. When I noticed the damage at home I promptly returned to the store. Dennis the service manager immediately accused me of causing the damage to my computer. They have now had my computer for 2weeks with no resolution. They continue to not take responsibility for their damage. This is the worst experience. I caution everyone not to take their computer there for service. The same day I was there, a gentleman returned since there were screws missing on the back of his computer. The employee told the customer, he had brought the computer in already with the screws missing. If that is the case why not tell the customer that when he picked it up. DO NOT BUY ANY APPLE PRODUCTS FROM THIS ESTABLISHMENT - SAVE YOURSELF THE TROUBLE AND GO TO THE APPLE STORE! After spending a household total of apx. $35k in the Columbus store last year alone, we was told that since the inadequately trained or otherwise, uncaring cashier erroneously changed the previous service plan for which we paid for, the store managament refused to assist us in any way other than the one option that caused someone to miss up to 2 weeks worth of employment due to down time without a macbook, and when documentation or substantial proof was brought to the evening shift "supervisor" he responded with (in his words) "Well we are not apple, consider paying for their warranty on your next purchase, see if they help better". Arrogance, a false sense of asserted dominance and lack of customer service, will surely keep our money from being spent with this business, and although $35k+ may not be much to the low salaried "supervisor" that cost this customer to go elsewhere, BestBuy and Apple staff both were extremely superior and glad to have us walk into their locations!!! - Once again, save yourself the hassle, and money in the long run and go elsewhere!!! read more

A few year ago, I bought a very powerful, loaded PowerSpec (Micro Electronics/Microcenter) laptop. Last night, it it fell about 9", forming an inverted-V shape (^), the sides of the "^" being (of course) the keyboard and screen. Why hadn't I closed the lid.... or positioned it safely..... The screen was black. The connector from the screen to the motherboard was sort of loose. I jiggled it, screen came on. Until I fully opened the screen, which went black. The connector was not one I'd seen before, with no obvious way of re-connecting. Very scared, but hopeful. So, this morning, I went to the Sharonville, OH, Microcenter before they opened. At 10:03, Dwayne O. asked if he could help me "today" and I said, "TODAY would be GREAT!" By 10:10, I was out of there, screen on, laptop working normally. His repair had taken less than 5 minutes. (No charge) Dwayne O. could have checked me in, taken my laptop, and said it would be ready Friday, or whenever. But he saw the problem immediately and knew exactly what to do. I'm home now, laptop working fine, as usual. Dwayne, and the Microcenter personnel who encourage this sort of activity, are to be commended. Even before Dwayne's beyond-the-call kindness, I had promised myself that MicroCenter was going to be my first (and no doubt only) place to go for electronic purchases and repairs. read more

I made an appointment to replace my IPhone battery. I waited a week for the appointment. Upon arrival I had to wait in a long line and over 20 minutes just to be told it would be 3 days for the repair. I asked what I made the appointment for then. I was told just for checking it in. I clearly could have done just that from standing in line behind all the other people without appointments. I use the phone for work and cannot go 3 days without it. That would have been useful information PRIOR to wasting my lunch break and a trip to Micro Center. read more

Went with my son to buy a gaming computer. He knew that he exactly what specs he wanted and had a price point, but was not brand loyal. The salesman who approached us was super knowledgeable and suggested several to look at. Of course, my son fell in love with one that was just outside his budget. Luckily, the sales guy was like-let me check if we have an open box to save you some money. 10% off? Yes please! Then, as we were checking out-someone came over to chat with us and thank us for buying the computer there and ask us about our experience. This was my first time going in to this store and I had a really great experience. I went in looking for a chrome book and I was helped way more than I expected. I was greeted by the sales person that helped me do a comparison between the two chromebooks I was looking at. Once I decided I was greeted by the sales manager that thanked me for coming in to the store and the sales person walked me to the front of the store with my chrome book. If you are replacing your iPhone battery, skip the Apple store and come here!! We got there around 11:30, left my phone there at noon, and it was done at 1pm. From what I've heard it's madness trying to get an appointment at the Apple store, so I couldn't be more pleased with my experience! They happened to have my battery type (6S) on hand which was part of why it went so quick, but for all battery types you can sign up to have a battery ordered, and then will call you when it comes in to finish the process. It was clearly very well thought out and organized - I was very impressed at how streamlined their process is! Everyone who works here is so professional and courteous, and they seem to have a huge staff, which I love. This place is a million times better than Best Buy - check it out! read more

I had quite a bit of a slog getting my computer fixed with this store. They took an unacceptably long time to ship out the box so I could send in my PC. I eventually called them two weeks (!!!) later to see the status and they hadn't even shipped it out and I don't remember there being a legitimate reason. The tech staff were all polite and professional. And after some back and forth, we finally got the PC in a box and shipped back to them. They did eventually manage to fix it, but it took WAY too long! I'd be more understanding if it had simply taken a while to fix. I probably spent more time waiting for them to send the box, and again waiting for any kind of follow up or status update for unacceptably long periods. What should have taken two, maybe three weeks instead became a two-month ordeal that I do not want to repeat. At least they fixed it and they didn't otherwise behave unprofessionally, which is why they get a 2* instead of a 1*. I only worked with them because this is where I bought the PC and it was still under warranty. read more

After scheduling an appointment, we made the 90-mile round trip to MicroCenter because we thought they were the best. We just had a few questions about the safety of removing some things to free up storage and they said they would have to hold on to the computer for a few days and get back to us. That was not going to work for us so we decided to buy a larger fixed drive. When we got home we found that they sold us the wrong component!! We had to make the 90-mile round trip AGAIN. They do not have a phone number anywhere on their website. We could have saved ourselves a lot of trouble if we could have asked them a simple question or two, then scheduled an appointment when they had some time to work on it that day. This is the place to go if you are looking to build your own computer or to setup an ultimate gaming station. They have everything you need and even a little extra high performance items you can't find at other computer stores. The staff is very friendly and they are all over the store. You don't have to look far if you are looking for some advice on a particular component you are looking for. We went in this day to find a whole desk gaming mat and some nice rubber key attachments for some extreme gaming. We ended up finding both with the help of one of the employees and it only took us about 3 minutes. We walked around for a while looking at all of the neat gadgets and wound up trying out their virtual cockpit race car. On 6/16 at 4am, I ordered a B550 motherboard online from Microcenter. My order was confirmed via email, and my bank account was charged $200 within 20 seconds. I stayed up late waiting for this release, as I have been waiting for months. This was not a pre-order, this was an actual "in stock, item available" listing. I ordered it within minutes of it going up on the website, as I had been checking all night. I went to bed after that, waking up to find out my order had been cancelled. After contacting support, they said "So these were erroneously listed as shippable when the sale went live." And Later "They are actually instore only, hence why it was cancelled. With new product launches like this, we prioritize instore purchasing for them." I have a script and a pic confirming this. So I went to bed thinking I had a new motherboard on the way. Of course the motherboard I purchased is sold out on every single retailer across the web now, as it is incredibly popular. Now I have lost the chance to order a motherboard from another company because of Micro center. There is a huge shortage of computer stock across the world, and everything is taking weeks- months replace, which I now must wait for. Other companies such as newegg and bhpohoto are telling me they aren't sure when they will receive new stock. I have a bunch of PC component parts that were ordered two weeks ago, and if I cannot find a motherboard in time, then I will lose my ability to return any DOA (dead on arrival) components, which creates another problem. in conclusion, Microcenter listed products as "available" online (this was not a pre-order) and then backtracked. They charged my accnt, leaving me with less funds to purchase another item until it clears my bank account. And worst of all, they destroyed the launch of this item for me, and ruined my shot of grabbing the same item from another company. read more

Rude and Not Helpful! My AC plug broke, the connection inside the computer came lose and fell into the computer. Easy fix, open up the back and solder or glue it back in place. Called Micro Center repair and asked if they can help. Was told no. I asked if they do repairs, he said yes but don't solder just replace parts. I asked what a part you replace needs to be soldered back, he said they just glue it. I asked if they could glue this back in place and he just said no. Would never buy anything or go there for repairs. read more

Apparently shoving your way through a long line is okay with the employees here if you are young and skinny and don't you dare complain if you are a middle-aged woman because the employees are going to tell YOU to calm down, treat YOU as if you are in the wrong even when skinny young thing admits to line cutting and then feels empowered to shout a foul name at you in front of the children she brought with her. Doesn't matter that more than a dozen other people were waiting patiently, that she admitted she jumped the line, or that I and my middle-aged husband have spent tens of thousands of dollars at this store over 30 years. Is it a coincidence that all the employees present were male? The guy literally said "she only had two items," as if if that makes it ok, as if we had more than 2 items in our own hands. Bought my first computer at the Lane Ave. one, a 386. They have a large selection of computers, components, and accessories, and knowledgeable staff. Prices are decent, but not great unless you catch a sale. You can get everything from a USB drive to a 60-inch TV. Service is usually friendly, but it can be hard to find staff. Check out the clearance carts for decent returned goods. I found a UPS and a keyboard set on sale, that fit my needs. I'll be back, but not often- too far away from me now that there are no branches, and too expensive for most things. read more

My son told him he had a budget he needed to stay within for PC, monitor, keyboard & mouse. Hayden helped him find all the parts he needed, loaded them in cart, gave his advice when asked. Did not try to sell him most expensive of everything, but still quality products. Kept checking total, with tax, to make sure he didn't go over budget. Again, really showed he cared. Nerdvana! If you are a big tech nerd, like my boyfriend (and, yes, me too!), you'll already know about this place. Micro Center is the best place in Columbus to get anything for your PC, Laptop, and most other tech needs. The store is huge. Like a smaller Best Buy. But all the room in Best Buy that is taken up by music CDs and DVDs makes up for the difference. Micro Center is broken up into several nice departments that all handle rather specific things. Digital cameras, computers, MP3 players, TVs, and video games all have their separate staff, though they all seem to have plenty of knowledge about the other areas of the store. Each department has all of the new devices that you can read about it tech magazines, but they also have a healthy selection of older models that are marked down in price. Micro Center also has the expertise, classes, and know how of a smaller vendor like The Laptop Guy. There is a small room where Micro Center will hold classes on how to do anything from doing your email to starting your own webpage. It is a very nice addition and very useful if you are buying that desktop for your grandparents to keep in touch. Just throw in some lessons with some of the most patient teachers around and they will get a good once over and should be tech-ready in no time. Combine all that with the fact that Micro Center's prices often compete with some of the cheapest online stores and you have a winner for nerds in Central Ohio. On the negative side if you are new to this whole tech shopping experience, Micro Center can seem like an absolute maze of unfamiliar objects. You're going to want to approach one of the employees and tell them exactly what you need. I would suggest having what you need written down or at least memorize the make and model number if you can. I know this seems like a lot for you to have to bring on your side of the shopping equation, but the fact of the matter is is that most of the products you'll find at Micro Center do not have clever names. If you want a 42" HDTV, well, there is a world of difference between all the different types. The good news is that they will be able to walk you through every single one of those differences, but at the same time if you want something super specific, it'll take some time to find it if you don't have the model number. The store is nice and partitioned off around its border between different departments, but in the bulk of the store it really is a maze of confusing aisles. They aren't the most well organized, but they will have just about anything you need for any job. Those screws that you see with the weird shapes unlike any screwdriver you've ever seen? They have a screwdriver that'll fit those and everything else. However, if you are looking for something specific and you are adverse to asking for help, you could be walking in circles for quite a while. It is just not an easy store to navigate. Also, the shelves in the main aisles of the stores seem kinda messy and unorganized as well. They fit so many things into the store that it seems like they are using every inch of shelf space and that has caused some confusion. One of the best things at Micro Center that you won't find at Best Buy or anywhere else are the Micro Center branded products. For example, you want an 8gb SDHC card for you new digital camera? That is going to run you about $20 anywhere on the internet, and as much as $40 - 50 at Best Buy. Well, Micro Center has their own 8gb SDHC card for only $13.99. You can't beat that. Plus you don't have to pay for shipping! The store is clean, if it is unorganized in spots. There is something about the lighting and cheap looking shelves that makes place feel like a less classy version of Best Buy. It is hard to explain but most people I talk to about it agree. The store feels cheap on the inside, but the service, prices, and quality of the products make up for any perceived cheapness. The checkout experience can be quick, but there is often a line. Even with several cashiers working you could be waiting 5 or more minutes. The last time we were there the manager, a polite skinny Asian guy, opened up all the lanes and actually opened up an extra one over at the customer service desk for us. It was kind of funny, we wanted two of the cheaper Micro Center SD cards that they keep at the registers, and he went to go get the cards out of a little drawer and the drawer fell out and SD cards went everywhere. Then he rang us up and when he opened the cash register the drawer popped out and hit him right in the crotch. Poor guy. I'd say that the cashiers seem a little less patient than the employees on the floor. That has been my experience so far. Getting into and out of Micro Center is easy. It is just off of Bethel Rd. and there is plenty of parking. They also have brick and mortar locations - but for the sake of this review, we are talking about the online site. The thing that drives me nuts with their website, and prevents them from getting 3 stars, is that for no apparent reason it will put your order into a no-mans land. By this I mean it will, with no explanation, present you a grayed out box to add it to the shopping cart, and a message "choose store for pickup". If I wanted to pick it up somewhere, I wouldn't be online... There is no explanation such as it is obsolete or out of stock- it just sits there and leaves you guessing as to why you can pick it up somewhere but not have it shipped to you. This has happened a few times now, so it is either randomly playing with me or there is some sort of shopping formula where every "X" customer is forced to go to their physical locations. Sadly they have great prices on things and if not for the silliness with the maybe it will ship or maybe not roulette, they would get another star. Harumph. read more

It's the perfect place if you're building your own computer or replacing broken parts. In my case, I was getting a CPU overheating error despite having a functioning CPU fan. After multiple internet searches, the easiest potential fix was to replace the thermal paste. Now where do you buy thermal paste? Well Micro Center has a whole mini-aisle of thermal paste. At checkout, the cashier states in complete seriousness "that's some good stuff, you can never have too much thermal paste." I guess I went to the right place. ZOMBIES!!! I went into microcenter today to purchase a Galaxy S9+ phone case. I was handed from one apathetic employee to another who then led me to where the phone cases were. He pulled one off the shelf and said this is the only one we have for that phone (it was $30 while the exact same case at best buy costs $10). Additionally, I saw 2 other cheaper options within 10 seconds of looking at the shelf. So I picked up the $20 option as it was the cheapest, I said thank you and began to walk away. He kinda chased me down to put a sticker on the item I was about to purchase without saying a word to me (I assume it was so he got his commission which he didn't deserve as he literally did nothing to help me other than walking me to the shelf and handing me the most expensive option). The only reason I even stopped in was because i didn't feel like driving to Best Buy. However, I will certainly go to Best Buy instead next time. No one in the entire store seemed to care or have any semblance of personality what-so-ever.
