It can be hard to find a good computer store anymore, and a lot of people turn to the big box retailers for their basic, amateur computer needs. But even the most novice of computer nerds wants more depth from a computer store than the handful of brands and peripherals than he or she will find at a Best Buy or, God forbid, a Wal Mart. Micro Center is the size of a department store, but caters almost exclusively to the PC user (with some nods to home entertainment, console video games, and digital cameras). Micro Center is so detailed, in fact, that the sheer amount of options can cause analysis paralysis if not outright confusion. Luckily the Micro Center employees mostly know their stuff, and can help you pick out what you need (although if you have a trusted friend who knows computers, they may be a more reliable source- bring them along). The worst part of any purchase at Micro Center, though, is all the personal information they want to collect at check-out, including your home address and phone number. Ok, three days in a row is a little much, but yes, I have been to Micro Center for the past 3 days in a row- and NO, they never once looked at me as if I were shoplifting! lol. That is what I call a great place. Micro Center has it all, if you are a geek, if you need computer help or if your computer is dying and you need an emergency part to resuscitate it. They price-match, so there really is no reason to go elsewhere. The staff is VERY friendly, depending on 2 things... 1) who you go to. Personally I have 3 favorite guys that will NOT BS me, and will tell me exactly what I need based on the price I want to spend or the quality product that I need. If you feel a guy is not giving you good advice- ask a different salesperson. These guys work off of commission, they want you to get something you are happy with. Personally, I don't feel it is confrontational or wrong to do this, especially when I am going to spend my hard earned cash in the store. (NOTE: I also ask my 3 go-to guys for their sales stickers for purchases if they have helped me before.) 2) your attitude. Yes, I said *your* attitude. If you, as the consumer go in without a clue as to what you need and expect ANY person to read your mind- nothing anyone could say or do will help you. If, however you go in with an open mind and try to explain and listen to the sales guys- you will have a better experience. Most people who regularly shop here have already done some of their homework- READ SOME PRODUCT REVIEWS BEFORE YOU BUY! Even if this means standing in the aisle and staring at your phone for 5 min while you search for reviews online. This store has SO MUCH to offer, if you just give it a chance. I love the fact that it is a "test-market" store. Which basically means that they will have things in store that you can't buy online through their website. I frequent the aisle by the checkouts for the latest new gadgets, toys and cool things you can't find elsewhere. Oh, one more thing- their return policy is fair. It reminds me of Circuit City's old return policy, in the way that they will return things (with in reason) more easily than other stores. Their return/warranty policy is abysmal. I spent $1300 building a gaming computer two months ago and the graphics card I spent $250 on has begun giving me issues. They are refusing to do anything for me, so now I am going to have to go buy a new PSU in order to diagnose it, disassemble my PC and install a new PSU, and if that doesn't fix the problem, I'm going to be without a computer entirely for weeks on end while I wait for MSI to fix/replace my graphics card through the mail. They could easily exchange my card as a defective product and handle the warranty company on their end. I will never so much as step foot in a Microcenter again. read more

1) No, OF COURSE they're not going to be consistently cheaper than online. They have more overhead. That is a given. 2) If you don't know much (or anything) about technology, this is not a store that is geared toward you. Some stores like Best Buy or Apple do their best to bridge that gap because they know most of their customers want the experience without actually having to know how it works (which is totally legitimate). Micro Center is not that store. It's specialized toward people who actually build computers, and thus, service and selection are designed to meet that need. I've never gotten anything but friendly service here, but I go in knowing something about what I need so. /shrug If you can find your way around the inner workings of a computer, or the outer workings decently well, Micro Center is your best in-person option if you need something. The prices aren't exorbitant (sometimes they have better sales on computer components than New Egg, that is a fact) and they WILL answer questions. I went to buy a wireless adapter for my PC and found that they were totally different since the last time I went to buy one; while nobody offered to help me, and I was totally fine with that, I asked my cashier: "If I have wifi and I plug this into my computer, will I get internet on that computer?" and he talked to me about it. I've done returns and those have been really painless. They keep your information on file if you buy a lot of stuff there, which helps a lot when you're returning things. I also find a lot of good deals on everyday items. I've gotten power strips, keyboards, mice, and lots of basic stuff at insanely good prices. Definitely check out this stuff if you need to go for another item; you never know when that extra mouse might come in handy. read more

I am not very technologically savvy and tend to get overwhelmed in stores like Circuit City and MIcroCenter. My knowledge extends as far as 'if it works, I'm happy'. I am not impressed by bells and whistles really given that the price tags are usually hefty but price tags are what I like about MicroCenter. They always have options for me that seem reasonable and while you certainly get what you pay for, the staff are always handy when it comes to educating me on what I'm getting for this cost vs. that and why. I always appreciate their helpfulness which makes the whole computer/phone/gadget buying experience a heck of alot less overwhelming. I have also had to make several returns to MicroCenter and have never had a problem. These guys are great! read more

This is the holy grail for all folks nerdy/geeky which means hubs is right there in it! He went many many times before he finally decided how he wanted his new desktop to be. I told him watching the process was like watching Dr. Frankenstein build his monster. But when my monitor went belly up and I needed an external hard drive well guess where I went? It gets awfully crowded in here so getting a salesperson can be a bit dodgy sometimes but when you do get one they are very knowledgeable and helpful. There's PLENTY of stuff to chose from from very reasonable USB flash drives up to monster pc's for gaming. You are sure to find something you need at your price point. If you need anything computer-ish don't bother with the big box stores - come here! read more

Some people would be inclined to call this place Geek Heaven. Nah, Geek Heaven would be a place where people would quit asking you to fix their computer because they were on websites they should not have been on. To me, this is like Geek WalMart. Am I allowed to use a registered trademark in a review? Regardless, this place has everything if you: need to build a computer, need to set up a home or business network, are an Apple fan, like digital photography, like video games, need a new flat screen television set, in addition to computers. If you are not technology inclined, the sales staff is helpful. You do get a few tech snobs, but you get that anywhere you go. I just learn to say no thanks to them, and ask questions from the friendly ones. I did have to have a laptop repaired under an extended warranty I purchased from them. The process was painless and the laptop was good as new. So if you need a nerd fix, or just want to be wowed by all the technology, stop in. You will not be disappointed. I love Micro Center, it has to be one of the best stores I have ever entered I'm a huge nerd, so I'm like a kid in a candy store whenever I go All the employees are CompTIA A+ certified, so unlike the employees at Best Buy or other big name electronic stores, employees at Micro Center can give you good advice on what to get, how to install it (or they can install it for you) and explain how to use it Usually in my case, I just have to ask where something is, and when they go to guide me, given I already have the knowledge, I like how they don't lecture me on how to install/use it, but if I do have questions, they are more than willing to help Micro Center is the only store to sell things you generally have to buy online, name a store you can walk into, buy everything you need to build a computer, buy everything you need to do cabling (network, cable/television, phone, fiber optic), buy hardware for hobbyist electronics/robotics (like a Raspberry Pi), buy prebuilt computers (including Macs), and buy game consoles, games, and televisions, or even smartphone replacement screens, all under the same roof? Geek Disneyland! Or should I say Nerd Disneyworld? Either case, it is certainly not egghead Euro-Disney. Standing between Gallo Tap Room and some Euro-PoMo Furniture Place (I'm sooo trying not to say 'Nestled') Mirco Center is Computer-tech nirvana. They have everything you could need from routers too earphones. Their DYI PC-section beats anything in town other than a few small shops. They are an Apple dealer, and for a fanboy like me, the Apple selection beats everything in town save the Apple Stores. I rely on them to replace my I-product accessories when they wear out. They are never out of what I need. I also shop them for software. They never disappoint. Their sales force is awesome; they are helpful and explain things without the common smugness you find of many techies. (And making you understand bullies for a second!) They also sell game systems, TVs, camera, ect. The prices and selections are competitive with HHGregg and Best Buy. For cameras I wish they would deal in some of the higher end DSRs. I am most absolutely dissapointed with my service that I recieved from microcenters repair department. I took my computer to get virus removal and ended up having to pay $150 for a 2TB hard drive to move "all my personal files" over to my computer after the removal. I then proceed to get a message that everything is installed on the computer, and that the employee would install windows for $100. This event concurs and after I recieve the computer, I naturally log on after having to wait 3 weeks to get it back in my possession. I wonderfully logon to nothing I had from my former windows, and on top of that, only the games were copied to my new OS as copys. None of my original "personal files" I preciously had requested for, but instead I had to spend 5 hours deleting one of every file because they all were duplicated. After the extermination of these files, next comes the horror. Now that every launchers program files are cleaned up I decide to open the launchers to find out that Steam cannot connect to steam servers and won't load my library; in addition, epic games now is refusing to install any game to my device again. I won't trust this store and come to consume again 'cause of its bad item quality and bad consumer service! I used to buy acer laptop from there in July ,2018 but there's been lots of problems since I got it. I only use it for work like editing papers and browse the internet. I felt really disappointed about the quality of the computer. I even doubt they just gave me the used or renewed laptop when I bought it especially when I had to fix it after I just bought. Now my laptop gets into problems again but I cannot fix it by myself. LOVE this store! I can re-call when it USED to be in Lane Avenue in Upper Arlington and the building was OLD and supper out dated and the parking was a TOTAL BARE if that and later it moved to a NEWWER location. The new location used to be a OLD Builder Square Hardward in which they used to charger over price stuff later fold. I was Sooo happy Micro Center moved to the old Builder Square and had MORE parking then you want. Saddy I am no longer living in Columbus OH. I would Love to have one in Pembroke Pines FL in a HEART beat!!! Thing I don't understand few people who not please with Micro Center really need to get a LIFE! I've had a number of dealings with Micro Center over the years, and the short answer is yes: If you need a part for your computer, or a peripheral... go here if you need a speedy resolution. They've got the best selection in town, and their prices aren't horrible, so long as you aren't looking to build your own computer. What annoys me are the handful of salesmen TOO eager on helping, and feel the need to break out their geek cred: "Oh, you want a 16gb card for your camera? You already had one in it? Well, is the camera SDHC compatible? It should have a logo on it if it is. Otherwise these cards won't work and I won't sell you one" Legit convo, right there. Nevermind that SD cards over 1gb only had compatibility issues on old devices which couldn't support the cards up to 4gb. If you have an SD card over 4gb, it's SDHC. And if you already have a 16gb card in the camera, and want ANOTHER ONE and just talked to the salesman to be friendly... he needs to use his brain. Whenever I take older non-techie friends in, I have to steer them away from the "I wish I worked here so I'm going to dispense random uninformed advice to strangers" crowd, and the "Being a salesman makes me a Tech Guru with my wicked cool powers of osmosis" crowd... it's like a minefield in there. At that point it's just easier for me to fire up Froogle and look for what I want online. Heed my warning: Shop here for the selection... just ignore the advice. I have been coming here for close to 20 years, ever since my father and I would trek an hour from Lancaster to feed our inner geeks. The floorplan has changed a bit over the years but the charm never wears off. What makes it special is the helpful staff, but also the fact that they price match Newegg and other online stores. Often times they don't need to, as the prices on certain things like CPUs are lower already. You can get your hands on the hardware and take all the time you want to research prices and specs. Sometimes you can even find a deal on an open box or clearance item with the yellow tags. I am happy to say, the PC I am writing this review from was purchased 100% from MicroCenter. Also, be sure to check out the test market goods behind the registers. Not the stuff on the long walk to the cashier, but on the other side of that. Never thought about coming here until today upon a recommendation. Turns out they were right, this is a great electronics store. We needed some speakers for our record player and had no problem getting the perfect set. The service was really great, they were very willing to help and give suggestions. Micro Center came very highly recommended from many of my friends. i am not so sure, however, that Micro Center is the place to get my ailing laptop fixed. The roommate and I stopped in yesterday. He was looking for an 8 gig memory card for his cell phone (basically turning it into his Ipod as well). He found what he was looking for and saved close to $30 off the same memory card if he would have purchased it through Verizon. My laptop, though, that is a different story. Micro Center charges a $70 or $80 diagnostic fee just to figure out the problem. Then the cost for fixing the problem gets tacked on the top of that fee, and then end result looks as though it is going to get pricey. I pulled the plug on getting the repairs started on the spot. I am going to look into PC Help Express and see if it lives up to the good reviews it has received on Yelp so far... read more

I am compelled to give Micro Center 5 stars because the selection is wide and i've been helped a lot by the employees of the various departments there. For a long time i went there not to look at hardware and software at all, but to browse (and buy far too many of) the books. There are books on programming and markup languages, operating systems, and software tutorials. You can learn a lot. I also bought an Apple there one time, and the experience was good. The dudes in that department are some good guys who are knowledgeable and probably don't even own a black mock turtleneck between them. The prices there are tolerable on perishables and peripherals you might want or need in the course of computing: CDs, flash drives, etc. And there are plenty of gadgets. Micro Center on Bethel road is, in short, the only place in Columbus i go regularly for computer supplies. read more

Never before have I lived near a Micro Center, but I sure am glad I do now. Micro Center got me through a trial and error diagnosis of my computer with seamless returns when I was wrong and great sales on the stuff I needed. They also have all the little stuff I need at great prices like slots for the back of my case and filters for my case fan, all unbelievably cheap. I've only been in Columbus 2 weeks and I've already been here 4 times because they keep having everything I need at prices that are super reasonable. My favorite computer store by far. Way better than Best Buy, CompUSA which is out of business, or any other big retailer. They get bonus points since the first store was opened here in Columbus, OH, making them a local large business with their corporate offices on Leap Rd. in Hilliard. The best thing about MicroCenter is the return policy...very liberal. They even used to take back software. 30 Days no questions asked is the basic policy, a little shorter on laptops and cameras I think. But I've seen them exchange things past 90 days for store credit...Best Buy charges 10-20% restocking fee if something breaks on you in the first 30 days. They don't have everything here but they do have enough. They are also the REAL Apple Store in Columbus as they were the only Apple retailer in Columbus for over 20 years, they service Apple products in store where some of the Apple Stores send things out. The best thing is all of the generic products they offer. You can get an 8gb thumb drive for $10...USB cables and other accessories can be as much as 75% cheaper than at other retailers. Sure you might save a buck or two shopping online at NewEgg or Amazon, but why not support a local store that provides many jobs to our community? read more

I've shopped here a couple of times on the recommendation of one of my best friends. As computer stores go, this place is excellent. Great customer service, and they do on-site repairs of most equipment. I started purchasing from Micro Center after my home had been robbed and most of my electronics stolen. John, one of the customer service reps, helped me through the store on my first visit...I told him what I needed, and he organized our trek through the store, and recommended great products. I have a hard drive that needs repair/recovery; initially, I took it to them to fix. They were unable to fix it in-house, but we will be returning next week to have them send it to their data recovery lab. I needed a new gaming desk and Andrew quickly came to our aid to show us all the desks they had in stock. He showed me an open box option that was 60 dollars cheaper so i opted for it. It unfortunately did not come with the mouse pad so I came in again and Andrew quickly resolved this issue for us within 5 minutes and provided a new mouse pad for us! The easiest way to describe Microcenter is to call it a brick & mortar Newegg, but with better prices. I was a huge fan of Newegg and CompUSA (before being bought by TigerDirect), but found that Microcenter is considerably cheaper and much more convenient...not to mention carrying all varieties of "Bawls" energy drink. One of the last remaining places in Ohio to pick up this particular drink, either in single servings or by the case. The major appeal to Microcenter for a system builder is their motherboard/CPU combo deals. They average anywhere from $50-200 cheaper than other competing retailers for the same hardware. Although they don't officially price match anymore, I have not had a problem on minor price matching if taken to the service desk with an advertisement or article on my phone. The only downside is the pricing of their cables. I can get comparable cables (USB, video, HDMI, ethernet, etc.) MUCH cheaper elsewhere (Cables2Go, Monoprice, Home Depot, etc.) but this isn't a huge deal for me, so it doesn't deserve any less stars than five. read more

Tons of tech stuff, but not very helpful staff Micro Center is like Amazon's electronics section in the form of a store. There is so much in there it is crazy. Now since there is so much stuff in there it becomes a challenge to find what you are looking for in there. This is where staff and customer service comes in. Disclaimer: I am a giant geek. This rating mostly reflects the giant geek's perspective. For those of us who cringe at the thought of buying electronics at Best Buy and tend to shop at Newegg, this is a viable alternative to waiting around for Newegg to ship parts. If you are building a PC, Microcenter has some really stellar deals sometimes. And they always have that one part you forgot to get (there's always one); I can't tell you how many times I've dashed out of the house in a last-minute bid to grab weird tower screws, or longer sata cables, before the store closed. The recent remodeling seems to be doing a good job of increasing the display room for laptops and desktops, and it looks like they are increasing the customer service area to include some "genius bar" type services for people who need tech help. Return policy is great, and I've always found someone willing to either answer or look up the answer to my sometimes pretty obscure questions. Overall, Microcenter is an incredible resource and I'm happy I live near one. As far as brick-and-mortar stores go, there's nothing that can compare to this. read more

If you know what your looking for and have adept computer knowledge you won't have any trouble. If you don't the place is crawling with helpful staff. Well, I like microcenter. Though I feel like I need to hang on to my boyfriend because the second he disappears the staff thinks I need help finding things and I cant go three seconds without being stopped. I feel like because I'm female they think I don't know what I'm doing. Or, perhaps, they don't see many young females. Besides that, I've always had great service here. I try to be as nice as possible and I don't yell at people. I make sure they see that I take care of my things (ex: when I use their repair service center, I always bring my things in a case ). I also make sure I have my receipt ready for them. Purchasing my laptop from microcenter was by far one of the biggest mistakes I have ever made as a consumer. I have had my computer for a few months and have already been to the "knowledge bar" 3 times and be prepared to spend half of or all day there, just waiting to talk to somebody. After waiting for over 2 hours I was told that my motherboard is bad and have to leave my laptop there for a week or 2. Well, considering I run my business through my laptop, that is not an option. The "manager" said I could us a loner but would charge me $70 to transfer my documents to the loner so I can still operate. Microcenter is a joke! DON'T EVER BY ANYTHING FROM MICROCENTER! I highly recommend Micro Center! Their staff is always helpful and knowledgeable. I have had a few stressful circumstances such as needing to replace vital components of my computer, and they have always come through by providing me the information I needed to get my equipment back up and running. It's nice to be able to talk to someone in person, vs. trusting sources on the internet. The staff here have always been friendly to me, and never wait for me to approach them. This is something that doesn't happen just anywhere these days. I have learned to count on their employees to have my best interest in mind, and trust their expertise. I've never really needed to spend as much time waiting on a store as much as I have here . It all started with me wanting to upgrade my current pc. Too do this I was told a diagnostic would need to be done . So I brought my desktop across town one Friday and was told it should be Done bbt that next Tuesday. Little did I know my computer was not assigned to anyone that was actually working until the next Friday. After spending hours on the phone and texting the store number I finally was told that no one had time for me. So the next day quite upset I cane in a little after one pm a good 7 days later to find no one had even opened up the desktop to look at it. At this point . It seemed less stressful to just build a whole new computer. So $1,700 later I pick out all my parts and check out and talk to the manager about my experience. He proceeded to try to ensure that my build was processed quickly since I'd basically been waitingg for a computer for a week already as well as being told no one had time for me. So I was told it would be done eithEr that day or the next morning. Those two days have gone by and they are about to close so I can oNly assume it Will be done next Friday if I come in and stand there while it's built. read more

Satisfactory visit. I had done some online research in advance of my visit to identify what I wanted to check out in person. When I reached the store, I found that there was good organization and signage, which allowed me to quickly find what I wanted to see. Some friendly employees asked if I needed any assistance, but were good about moving on when I thanked them but declined. If Microcenter doesn't sell it, it doesn't exist. You think of it as a computer store but it's more like an electronics store, computer store, Apple store, office supply store rolled into one. They have a little bit of everything. It's like the Wonka factory for tech geeks. But there's something here for everybody, it's not just tech stuff. They have phenomenal deals all the time. They every kind of gadget you could want and every model of that type of gadget. A big Apple selection. And all kinds of little things, far too many to mention or even categorize. As you walk through the store you see countless little things for $10 or $15 that you need and/or want. Since it's so cheap it's easy to walk out of there blowing over $100 and never making a big purchase. They've recently renovated this store and put in a knowledge bar like the Apple store genius bar. I purchased an AMD six core here and at a price of $89.99 its the best deal I can get. Folks working here know stuff, u ask them and u get the answer in a flash. Thank goodness for Microcenter, an electronic oasis in a desert of electronic madness. This place is so much superior to Best Buy it's not even funny IMO. The sales associates are highly knowledgeable, there are a few guys I remember seeing working there when they were on Lane Avenue in the 80's so they've been around for a while. Even if you consider yourself a techie there's a good chance the sales guy you're speaking with here may actually know more than you do (I consider myself very knowledgeable about computers and I've talked "nerd talk" a bunch with these guys and they are SMART) And best yet, when you look towards one they actually walk forward and ask you if you have any questions, unlike at Best Buy where if you look at someone who works there they practically run the other direction (most of the time anyways). You won't find that here at Microcenter, they must pay their employees pretty well and train them well because they are eager to help and they know their stuff... So you're thinking, well that's great but I like the prices at Best Buy. This place with the great customer service probably is more expensive right??? Well guess what, Microcenter will always beat Best Buy on price from my experiences. Not only do they beat their prices but they will match them if they don't. They also have great sales on clearance items, refurb items and just simply slightly dinged items as well so if you're looking for a bargain then this is the place to go. Another clear and remarkable difference from Best Buy is the large selection and parts you will find for your computer here. For example, Best Buy may have 3 different kinds of power supplies and Microcenter will have 23 different kinds. And for small, gadget type cords, cables and the like you will find them here and Best Buy often will not have them. And even better yet they won't charge you a laughable fee for the cord/cable either like Best Buy does, instead of $30 or such you will probably pay $5 or less. So yes you can order off of the internet but if you need a computer part now you will not want to wait and this is your go to store since Radio Shack went out of business (wait, please don't tell me you patronized Radio Shack???!! NooOoOooo)... I don't know what else I can say to convince you that this place is the best place to go for all of your computer needs but just check it out for yourself and you will see what I mean. Microcenter is the cheapest, best staffed, most knowledgeable and widest selection of computer and computer accessories you will find anywhere, short of driving to Texas or California to visit Fry's computer (another sterling business that I love from my time in Texas).... Microcenter is a big computer store. Probably the size of a Kmart, but all computer parts. However, whereas CompUSA walked down the doomed path of going as consumer as possible and stopped carrying anything useful, Microcenter continues to keep getting more and more odd parts to fit anything you need. They even have individual electronic components like resistors and odder items like heat shrink tubing- stuff you'd normally have to order online since Radioshack (I mean The Shack) has just become a cell phone accessory store. They have a great book/magazine selection and all of their employees are very useful. This is one of the better Microcenters I've been to. The one in Cambridge, MA on Memorial Drive is smaller and feels kinda beat up compared to this one. read more
