I bought a refurbished Apple iPad from Micro Center in November. As I bought it for my grandson as a Christmas present it was not used until December. In March he began having problems with it, of course after the 90 day warranty was up. I took it back to the store only to find out that between the diagnostics fee and an estimate of repairs it would cost as much as the original purchase price. I would not recommend buying a refurbished product from Micro Center. read more

Love the store and products they have, prices are comparable to online and they do have some helpful folks walking around. Service group has lots of room for improvement. The process starts with requiring folks to pick a number. My number was 295 and the now serving sign shows 265. I am thinking I am going to be here awhile. After 20 minutes they ask who is next. So don't bother with getting a number. I provide them a printout of an apple warranty extension along with my case number from a couple of support calls with Apple. They then spent 10 minutes trying to find my account and apparently can only look you up by name and zip. Finally give up and have to type in all the information from the piece of paper I just handed them. They would be better served with some kiosks and letting people input their own information. I then spent the next 15 minutes confirming everything I wrote down while it was being typed in. After 30 hours I get a call informing me the motherboard is bad, which I knew hence the apple support id and warranty extension printout. They then inform me they need another day to run the apple required tests as they weren't aware of the apple case number and warranty extension. I thought this was an apple certified center, I foolishly asked what they did to test the computer over the past 30 hours. Uh, apple requires different tests?? Baffled, I am now driving down to pick it up as they will probably drool on the new motherboard and write over my hard drive. Oh yeah, to top it all off it will take another 5-7 days to get the parts, who knows how log till the computer is repaired. Should have taken it to Apple Store, had them mail it to the service depot and got it back in 5 days. Lesson learned. read more

Built multiple computers, they match if not beat newegg/Amazon/tiger, etc. I recently bought a monitor, and it was fantastic but after using it a few days I wish I had gotten a bigger one. Micro Center is our go-to place for all things Computer...the store carries a huge variety of manufactures and models of PC's, accessories, components, software, etc.... We have bought both components of computers (Very proud to say that my 13 year old grandson successfully built his own PC with components that we bought him here) to Laptops, to software, to cables, to keyboards, etc... The prices are excellent, very difficult to beat. Their hot buy prices are especially good. The only negative is the overbearing sales staff, but I must say that if you politely ignore them, they do back off. Conversely, they are very knowledgeable and helpful when you do require their assistance. Can't go wrong at Micro Center. read more

Do NOT drop your computer off to get anything repaired. I had a cracked screen on a laptop and was told it would take 3 to 5 days for the part to come in and same day repair. No one called to tell me the part wasn't in or to give me an update. The computer has now been there for 18 days and was supposed to be ready today. Apparently the part is still not in and I have to wait another 5 days. I have been going through this same "another 5 days" crap and not one time have they called to inform me. Instead I have to call and harass the store to find out that it's STILL not ready. I'm tempted to pick it up and take it somewhere else that can fix the problem. WORST customer service EVER and no one can give you an actual answer with a promise your computer will be fixed. read more

Okay, I'm changing my review from a 1 star to a 5 star. Back in November, my 13 year old son purchased components to build his own gaming computer. The sales people were extremely helpful. However, after the computer was built certain games would freeze. We tried working with the store to trouble shoot the problem ourselves, because we thought maybe we did something wrong. But, after 3 months the games were still freezing. We brought the computer in for the tech people to look at it, and it turned out that the graphics card was defective. There was some confusion with our tech person about warranties and repairs, which cause me much frustration and aggravation. However, Jiri Strakos, the Manager of the Tech Dept. made the situation right. In fact, I think he is probably one of the best customer service person I have ever dealt with. He's truly a nice guy and wants customers to have a good experience. He's got a great disposition. I felt his concern and sincerity about our situation and now the computer is finally working properly and my son is very happy. You know, I love Micro Center. It's nice to have computer and tech store that you can go to and talk to real people about issues and concerns. Not like an Apple or Microsoft store in which the people have narrow and limited experience. I really want Micro Center to be successful and stay around for a long time. So, I'm glad Jiri helped us with our situation. And, I'm glad I can continue loving the store. read more

Bought a Corsair Obsidian 750D Airflow Edition Full Tower case because it was on sale. Got home only to discover multiple broken pieces. Brought it back and was told that I was sold/purchased an "Open Box" item (admittedly, there was a sticker on the side of the box that I did not see). The gentleman at the Customer Service counter (Hamza) was very professional and politely explained that an Open Box item was one that had been previously returned. Ah. I told him that the Salesperson (here unnamed) never mentioned this to me - and had I known I would have never bought something used. Anyway, Hamza understood perfectly and asked his colleague (Jarod) to please check if another case (unopened) was in stock. The efficient Jarod (also polite) came back w/ a brand new case - equal, if not an upgrade from the original. At this point, dear reader, let me point out that I am somewhat of a Luddite and know almost nothing about computers (this was a gift for my teenager who is light years ahead of me in this area; and many others, but that's another story). Anyway, it was pointed out that because I had originally bought a used item, on sale, the new case would be an extra $50.00. Not what I was expecting to hear, Hamza suggested that I talk to the manager (Anwar Sadat) who may want to hear any issue I had concerning both the return and additional cost involved in the exchange. Mr. Sadat was equally professional and offered a discount of 20% (the store's policy being, I was informed, routinely 10%). While I appreciated his candor and offer, I explained to Mr. Sadat that the trip to Microcenter was a long one for me and that had the Salesperson (here still unnamed) informed me of the item being used/opened in the first place (like they should have), this would all be a non-issue. It was this latter point that I was most adamant about. Ultimately I was offered the new case at the original price of the one on sale. Mr. Sadat's assessment was, I believe, on point: he made good for the store and I will be back! read more

True this place has a wide variety of things in stock that you would be hard pressed to find anywhere else. That being said, the customer support is terrible. Unless you know exactly what your after and know how to hunt it down you will not find any help among the sales reps scattered throughout the store. They have very limited knowledge and seem to play stupid, hoping you will give up. Don't even bother trying to call. After waiting on hold forever, a kid will answer your question with "hold on let me ask my manager" and another long spell on hold at the end of which he comes back with some gibberish leaving both of you more confused. Conclusion: only shop here (Fairfax VA micro-center) if you cannot find what your looking for a radio shack or best buy. read more

This is about the Fairfax, VA store technical service department. They are terrible. For most of my working life I had a technical service department on call. Therefore I am not very computer literate. I was hoping Micro Center would become my go to for service. I took my computer in for servicing. I needed it cleaned and some problems fixed. I was called and asked if they could do a backup and upgrade. They said they would reinstall the computer programs. When I got my computer back it had almost no icons. I could not find my Word, Excell, iTunes, or any other programs I used. Then I found out I could not even reattach my printer so it would work. I called the Micro Center technical service department and left messages three times. I found an email address on their Internet site and emailed twice. I then posted on their Facebook site. I got an email back saying someone from the management team would contact me. A week later no one called or emailed. I am totally disgusted and furious. I have spent $50 trying to fix the problem and have had no luck. I expect I will have to take my computer into another store and pay big bucks. And this is after I paid Micro Computer over $200. I have never had such a poor customer experience. They evidently think they are so popular they do not have to extend themselves to unsatisfied customers. They did not even do me the courtesy of calling me and finding out if there was some way to resolve my issues. I will never use them again or purchase anything from them. I will inform all my friends regarding my experience and post anywhere I can find. Do not use their technical service department. They stink. read more

I have been a regular customer at this location for about 5+ years. Usually, I am assisted by young people who are knowledgeable and eager to help. Today I was "assisted" by two middle aged men (of varying ethnicity) who were both trying not to help (the technical support fellow seemed irritated at having to do anything in a room with no other customers). Maybe I interrupted his nap. The other, a "sales" person "had no idea" when I asked if I could change the drives in a WD My Book Duo RAID. He took me to the "technical support" fellow who asserted that the sales person did know. I will just go online to ask a simple question and execute the purchase if the drives can be switched out. Between them they have assured that I will try to avoid their location in the future. The end is in sight for big box stores with indifferent service. read more

I love this place! It's the only computer store I can visit without tearing my hair out from uneducated staff. I always get the information I ask for and then some. The men there (never encountered a woman employee) are very helpful. The atmosphere blows though, pretty much the same as a Circuit City. I know not to expect some beautiful expanse of bright colors and fun, but it is a truly depressing place to be in for more than ten minutes. read more

After taking my Macbook Pro to the Apple Store, the genius techs indicated the likely cause of my Macobook not booting was due to a hardware issue. Because I have a SSD, they said it was most likely the cable. Microcenter tech said the hardware was fine and claimed the problem to be an OS corruption and recommended a $160 data backup on a 1TB HDD and wiping the SSD and reinstalling the OS for $100. I said the Apple Store would reinstall the OS for free and opted for just the data backup. Taking my laptop back to the Apple Store and explaining to them that the Microcenter tech checked all the hardware and it was a corrupted OS, the Apple tech wiped my SSD and tried to reload the OS, but ran into the same symptoms and verified that it was a hardware issue, most likely the hard drive cable. I ended up buying tools and a replacement hard drive cable and ended up fixing the problem myself in less than 10 min. During my home repair, I realized the Microcenter tech did not replace 3 case screws and 1 hard drive mount screw. In the end, the Microcenter tech misdiagnosed my problem, recommended completely unnecessary backup and wiping of the hard drive and even recommended a costly OS install that the Apple Store does for free, but he didn't even bother to replace all the screws for the hard drive mount and case. Not only did I lose tens of hrs going back and forth from Microcenter to the Apple Store (which was correct in their diagnosis from the beginning without even opening up my laptop), I lost multiple programs that I received for free when I was in a student status last year that I now have to pay hundreds of dollars to obtain (ie Windows 10 64-bit and others). While I got a refund for the diagnosis fee and backup, it would have been proper to get Windows reinstalled for free by Microcenter. Bottom line I am now suspiscious of Microcenter tech's, their abilitay to actually diagnose and fix problems, and whether or not they recommend courses of action based on how much business or money they can make. To me, Microcenter now equates to a crooked auto repair shop. I will never go there again and recommend anyone that asks to stay away from your company. The pros to coming here are that the selection - for virtually anything having to do with computers or electronics - are amazing. Here are some of the cons - first, the products here are somewhat pricey. Sometimes, what I will do is come here to see the product, use Google Shopper to see if an online buyer has it cheaper, and buy it there if I don't need it immediately. I find that for small items, they are typically a few dollars more expensive. However, for big ticket items it can be significant. Second, I am fairly certain that the people here work on commission. I know this because, even though the customer service here can be mediocre at best, salespeople are always trying to put a sticker on whatever you are buying - even if they did not assist you with it. I assume that this sticker gives them credit for purposes of the commission. In general, good selection, but generally ok. read more

Like others say, this is like Home Depot for the computer geek. It's got the single best selection of PC equipment in the area unless you go to a MarketPro computer show. There's currently a big sale ongoing (there always is in February) and I bought a 1.5 TB hard drive there for $119.99 which is quite good considering the ongoing hard-drive shortage. They're good for buying bulk items like DVD cases and DVD-R blanks, and have a LOT of items that are tough to find elsewhere these days (like PS/2 keyboards and mice, which I needed for my new desktop so as to save USB slots). They used to have really good markdowns on returned and opened items, but I don't know if that policy is still in effect. read more

I needed a new water cooling system and the Sales Tech stayed with me for over 30 minutes. I made sure I had everything I could possibly need and the Sales Tech even offered to help me take it out to my vehicle. The prices and availability were the best since everything was right there in one place...no running from one store to the next! If I need new parts for my two towers or my two desktops, it pays me to go to one place, get what I need and get home quick. read more

This place has horrible customer service. Dropped off mac book pro to get fixed . I knew I needed to replace my battery. The computer needed update as well. The technician said it would take a few hours to fix it. He said he would call with an update but never did. Called the next day to check on the status and no one could tell me the status as the technician was on break. They said he would call me back but again no call. So I called after few hours and they said he was with a customer and won't be able to speak. Again, no update on the computer. As I was inquiring about estimated pick up time, the person on the phone said the technician is done and available to speak with me. As soon as he got on the phone he was very rude. He said that the original quote has gone up. He said he can put my computer to its original condition without fixing it and I can pick it up today. But he said if I wanted it fixed I have to wait and pay extra. He was very impatient when I asked him why the quote changed. He was annoyed by my question and said I can pick up my computer in its original condition. I don't understand why I can't ask the reason he changed the quote. Why would I want to pick up a computer with a bad battery? I dropped it off for a reason. The worst customer service ever!!! Buyer beware read more

I've found the prices to be good but they seem to sell some cheap knock video game accessories as official products. I've heard some horror stories from friends about buying used and refurbished products from the store but I haven't really had any problems of my own but I have only bought new items from them. I would recommend you only buy new items from the store and even then only if ordering online from a store is not possible. read more

When I checked in my laptop I was told that all of the work that needed to be done on my laptop would cost 310 dollars plus tax and would take 3-5 days to be completed. Since the apple store gave me the same time frame and a cost that was fifteen dollars more I figured I would just get the work done at Micro Center. However a couple days after I dropped my laptop off when I was waiting for a call that my laptop was done, I got a call saying that they were expecting the part to come in on Wednesday ... eight days after I dropped my laptop off. When I called to ask about why it was taking so much longer than the time I was given I was told that there wasn't any kind of issue or delay and that they always had to order the parts to be shipped out, meaning that when I was given the time frame they knew that they would have to wait for the part to be shipped. It was really important that I had my laptop by Monday and had I known before that it would have taken this long I would have paid the 15 dollars extra to get Apple to fix it. To make matters worse when I finally got the call that it was done Wednesday night and came to pick it up they told me that the cost was 360 dollars (fifty dollars more than I was told.) In the end after I complained they ended up giving it to me for the original price I was told but overall the overall experience felt like one giant scam. I assumed that since Apple recommended Micro Center to me that it would be reliable but I'm starting to think that I was given the wrong time frame and price on purpose so that I would drop my laptop off there only to find out later that they weren't true when it was harder for me to change my mind and use another place instead. Overall my experience was stressful unpleasant and felt more like working with a shady unlicensed business rather than an official company. However as awful as my experience was the one saving grace was that the people that were working there were very nice and friendly and they made the experience slightly less bad. read more

I personally don't want to provide you with my personal information. I just want to get in and get out. This may seem rude but I have other things to do. Absolutely don't try to insist I offer information. Absolutely don't get mad when I say I am in a hurry and I need to get back for a meeting. Absolutely don't try to argue with me and imply my not providing personal information is preventing you from doing your job. Also most importantly don't keep complaining while wasting even more of my time as you enter a bunch of "store" information. Please, please, please just take my money and say thank you. Strongly suggest avoiding this store's repair service. When I brought in a Lenovo laptop the store had sold to me two years ago, because it would not connect to the internet, the repairman ignored my complaint and tried to upsell a new laptop. When I declined, he tried to upsell a new hard drive -- even though I had not complained about hard drive difficulties. When I asked to speak to a more senior technician, that technician tried the same upsells. So I picked up the computer, spent some time with it, and figured out it needs a bit of Microsoft software they could easily have installed for me. It was, by the way, software that should have been on the machine when it was sold or added to it when I brought it in for the identical internet connection problem after the first year of ownership. Shoddy service combined with efforts to push new merchandise instead of making a simple repair. You'll want to take your repair elsewhere if you want it done well. read more

Can't say enough good things about this particular Micro Center... In the past few weeks, I've had reason to use them for several computer purchases and repairs; in all instances, they've provided me with exceptional service, both pre- and post-sale. For example, a few weeks ago, I purchased from them an Apple laptop that subsequently developed a malfunction issue with the keyboard... I contacted (via email) the Micro Center sales manager who had sold me the computer... he got back to me that same evening, and was more than accommodating in making sure that I was taken care of, and that a new laptop was set aside for me to exchange the faulty one with (I was still within my 15-day return window). In the past couple of months, I've also had reason to use their computer diagnostic/repair services... the two times that I've taken broken computers to them, I've been impressed with their expertise and professionalism: they get back to you with a diagnosis in a timely manner... the price quotes they give you are fair... and the work they do is guaranteed. The Micro Center techs I've dealt with have all been extremely knowledgeable and I've been very pleased with the work they've done. All in all, a place that has earned my continued business. read more

This story got worse before it got better, but it did get much better. I waited six more days, and then checked in on line to see what the repair status of my computer was. Again I got the very cheery "Ready for pickup!" But this time, I decided to verify. I called Micro Center and was able to get a live person on the line. When I wanted to confirm that my computer was fixed, and ready, I was told that it had not been sent out yet for repair --- AGAIN. I asked to speak to the service manager, and was told he would call me back. Jeff did call back within 10 minutes, apologized profusely and then said that since it was their fault that I had been waiting three weeks for a repair that never even was started, they would replace my computer free of change and I could pick up the new computer immediately. A happy ending. It was a long road, but we got there. Thanks to the service department for doing the right thing. read more

Purchased Microsoft Windows Home Premium 7 Upgrade for Windows Vista from MicroCenter. No where was it indicated on the package that this upgrade is not compatible with Windows Vista "Business". When I attempted to return this product the next day I was told that they would not accept return because they suspected that I had loaded the product already. When I explained that I had not, they indicated that they could not trust what I had told them. When I offered to exchange it for the correct product and pay the difference both customer service representative and the manager walked away without response; the manager exiting through a door behind the counter and closing the door after him. I was absolutely appalled as were others in area, as was Microsoft who apologized and offered to take the product back without question. Highly recommend you avoid MicroCenter, the post sales experience is among the worst I have experienced! read more
