I have my pc under their warranty yet it was in the store for the same issue twice. The first time they attempted to fix it - the problem remained. I even involved the manager but nothing has been resolved. I since have moved to Ohio I took the pc to the Columbus store on Bethel Rd. Josh Mettle promised me that within 48 hours he would have the pc fixed. No one called me. I called after the 48 hours and no one had any notes on it so they did not know what to tell me. I waited a couple of days more and called again. I was told they would attempt the same diagnosis that previously did not work. Mind you, this is the third time my pc has been in their store for the same issue and it is under their warranty. Finally Josh indicated he would make sure this time it is resolved and will ship it to me overnight. It's been a week and I still have no PC and no solution. It is a good store, but their parking is terrible. This is the second time that our car has been damaged parking there in two trips. There are no cameras, (some electronics store Huh). I like the store, but if they cannot make shopping there safe for us and for our vehicle, screw them. I will not go back there. After we found out that our car had been damaged again, we went back in just to be told that, they only provide security in the store, and that we are on our own in the parking lot. The guy even joked that he is happy that he does not have to deal with the parking lot problems,because there are so many cars getting damaged. Big damn joke. I called the MC police just to be told that this parking lot produces several reports every day of car damage because the parking spaces are so small, and because they do not monitor it at all. The owners have been told to install decent cameras, but they don't feel like it I guess. I won't shop there again. if they don't respect me and my property anymore than that, I will go elsewhere. Thought I was going to need a new machine, but brought it in anyway, to see if maybe it could be saved. Mentally prepared to part with a thousand bucks. Guy at the service bar looks at video I brought of what my wonky machine was doing and says "bad graphics card". "How hard is that to replace?" I ask. "Not too bad" he says, and then cracks open the case, shows me exactly what to do and where to find the card I need. Head home and an hour later I'm back in business. I went to Micro Center with a laptop that had been bathed in hot tea. The help center there was knowledgeable and very supportive. They (free of charge) used an air compressor to blow out any liquid that remained, checked my hard drive, and talked me through what to do next. 4 days later, my computer is miraculously working! As a comparison, a few years ago I went to the Geek Squad at Best Buy with a previous computer that wasn't working properly. They claimed that my hard drive was completely nonfunctional and that I would need a new one, or a new computer. Skeptical, I left and sent the computer to HP and found out shortly that it was a very basic problem regarding the screen. read more

I came to this Microcenter looking for several Raspberry-Pi related parts in the DIY section. I had confirmed beforehand that this location had those parts in stock, but upon arriving at the store, I realized I would not be able to find them. The clerk I spoke to admitted that the DIY section was a total mess and that he hated going back there, that there was absolutely no organization in DIY. He and I together spent about 20 minutes looking for any of the components I wanted, and neither of us could find any of them. He confided in me that the man responsible for organizing the DIY section liked to HIDE FROM HIS OWN SECTION. Lol. He was very kind and apologetic. After he left, I spent another 30 minutes looking for my parts, still to no avail. Finally, I left the store emptyhanded. Such a shame to know that this Microcenter carried parts I needed, and was in such disarray that I could not purchase them. Even more of a shame because Microcenter is one of the few stores to stock such parts. The DIY section of this store is a joke. It looks like a hurricane blew through it. Specifically, small components are randomly thrown into unlabeled bins, which must be rummaged through one by one if you want to find a specific part. This takes upwards of half an hour. Unless you are looking for large, easily recognizable components, prepare yourself for disappointment. The owner of this location should be aware that at least one of the staff responsible for DIY is not doing his job, and that the staff are (very justifiably) badmouthing each other. read more

They also have a lot more of pretty much everything, including help on the floor and at the registers. I've had enough of this place, so I walked out even though I need a server for my internet radio station. I'll order on the internet. Negative reviews here on this store generally reflect agitated uninformed folks. When Microcenter replaced CompUSA in Rockville, I was delighted. I have always felt that Microcenter has a real appreciation for all things IT and all the people who enjoy computers as much for the usefullness as well as the fun. ** Very poor service, unprofessional, and contradictory information. Called a representative from the store who quoted $150 for a replaced battery on a mac. Said no appointment needed and that the repair would take 1 hour if they were busy 30 minutes if they were not busy. Confirmed the model to verify. This was confirmed. Walked into the store. Representative, in person, said contradictory information. they could not replace Mac batteries at all. I had to get an entirely new Mac to fix the problem. This seemed very odd to me as past research stated the contrary. I didn't have cell service to show in the store so I walked outside. After quickly doing a search I found that not only is it simple and easy to replace the battery. But Apple sells the part for $129 and does the service for you free of charge. After finding this I went back in and this time spoke to two representatives. Again stating the initial call and quote I received. The second representative immediately said that the first rep was incorrect as they can replace batteries they are just recommended not to and that the charge is $500. Both reps than began to try to explain what is involved in replacing the battery stating the keyboard and such would also need to be replaced (justifying the $500 cost). When I had mentioned that this still contradicted the information that I had seen I was met with a snarky "well have you ever been on everymacs website"? To which I said no all the while trying to be respective of their position but simply understand the situation. In the end they said they didn't recommend it. As this was a work computer and a work expense I could not agree to the fix until more research was done. When I walked outside I looked up everymac.com and this is the video I found. Stating that this replacement is so easy it was recommended to do it by yourself. The customer service was good, but the checkout is a little kookie...they REALLY do not want you shoplifting or even thinking about it! There was a huge selection of computers and accessories. Call 1-614-850-3000 (Customer Relations - Corporate Office) if you have any problems with any employee. Please make sure to get the name of the employees you are calling about. My experience was with two employees: Loran Axtell (Supervisor- guy with long blonde hair - he is in picture 4) and Daniel Teichler (Associate). I would ask Microcenter to please put an inquiry about Loran's conduct and the way he deals with customers. I think customers are having issues with him on a continuous basis. One of the customers in the reviews has said that he was "racist," and I agree with the customer, my experience with Loran was similar. Microcenter, in general, is a nice company and the rating I am giving here only reflects customer service experience I had at Rockville store. Second Experience: I went to get my $50 gift card that I was offered because of the inconvenience I faced during my prior visits due to Loran Axtell - I have written about my first experience below. As soon as I got into the store, I told Daniel Teichler that I am here to get my gift card. He confirmed that there was a gift card for me but after talking to Loran, he asked me to stay in the customer service line, which was pretty long. When I stared at him for 2 seconds because it did not make any sense why do you want me to stay in the customer service line when I am not here to return anything but to just get the card that is already issued, Daniel said that YOU SHOULD WAIT BECAUSE YOU ARE COMING AFTER A MONTH TO PICK UP THE CARD. SO WHAT ABOUT THE MONTH THEY TOOK TO CALL ME ABOUT THE CARD. Obviously, I understand that Daniel was following orders from his boss, Loran. SO I HAD TO WAIT TO GET THE CARD THAT WAS ALREADY ISSUED AND WAS ISSUED BECAUSE OF THE INCONVENIENCE I HAD AT THIS LOCATION PREVIOUSLY. First Experience: I bought some stuff at this place and was supposed to get the promotional interest rate on that stuff. However, because subsequently, I had some returns, I did not get the promotional APR, so I went to the store to get the issue resolved. Loran was the one helping me, and he said that he would call me in a week after talking with his finance department. Because this place is 20 minutes away from me, I asked him do I have to come back again, and he said no. He called me after a week and said that you have to come to the store. So, without complaining, I went to the store. I thought that the issue will be resolved this time; however, Loran kept me waiting for almost 2 hours (even though I was not feeling well, I thought it is better to wait because I did not want to go there again) and kept on telling me that he trying to resolve the issue. EVEN THOUGH I DID NOT COMPLAIN, I KEPT ON THINKING WHY DID HE ASK ME TO COME TO THE STORE WHEN HE HAD TO FIGURE OUT HOW TO FIX THE ISSUE. After two hours of wait, he said that he was going to call the bank and let me know, so I left the store after 2 hours without getting my issue resolved. I tried calling the store multiple times to get in touch with Loran, but he was never at the store (at least that is what they told me) and neither were the district manager (Tony) nor general manager (Mark). So, I somehow got the number of corporate office and called them. Then, magic happened. Within 24 hours, I got a call from the store from Loran and all of a sudden the issue was resolved. So, if you have any problem call the corporate office with the name of the concerned employee. I usually do not write this kind of review and understand that everyone is a human being and mistake happens, but when there is no doubt left that the staff (or one of the staff members) wants to give you hard time, it is better to notify the management so that they can take care of that issue rather than lose customers just because of a few employees. read more

Recently made an online order (ASUS G750J ROG) and the process went pretty quickly. I even made the purchase on my smart phone. I went to pick up my notebook on my break and experienced no waiting. The gentleman that assisted me, found my order quickly and seemed to be more excited about my purchase than I was. I believe the gentleman that came up a few minutes later thanked me for my purchase and seemed as elated as the customer service rep. So far I'm pretty happy with my purchase and the process. The only thing that threw me a little was finding the pickup window. There are a lot of rows and stations in the store and the sign (it is near the ceiling like the others in the store, but the shelving aisle blocked it from my immediate view.) I found it after about 5 minutes. All of the sales assistants were busy with other customers and I didn't have a lot of time to wait. read more

This was my first trip to Micro Center, but it won't be my last. They had the largest on-the-floor selection of computers I've seen in this area (Rockville). I was assisted by Mark Mooney, who gave me good advice on the laptop features and how useful they would be for my purposes, suggested I add RAM to the one I chose (my brother gave me the same advice, so I know he was not just trying to up the sale price), and got me set and through the line all in about 15 minutes. Although I was told the computer would not be ready (with the added RAM) till the morning, they actually contacted me an hour later to let me know it was done. I purchased a nexus 7 tablet online for in-store pickup with my fathers credit card on my account. When I went there in person to redeem it, I was not able to even though I showed my ID and showed proof that the name on my ID matched the account that the order came from. My father even called the store to verify that his credit card was used to purchase the tablet for me and that they had my permission to go ahead and give me my stuff. Even then they would not release the goods. He also offered to fax over a picture of his ID and Credit Card. I understand that the store is doing this to prevent fraud but at some point in time, common sense should come into play. read more

My laptop wouldn't start, so I took it to them. They said it needed a new battery and I could order one through them. How much will it cost, I asked. "No more than $100." I asked if they could look up the exact cost. It took them 15 minutes, but they came back with an exact estimate -- $270! I decided to take my computer home and think about it. Now it's restarted and the old battery works just fine. How could they be so wrong about something so simple? read more

The staff is helpful. The prices are better than other places. However, I knock 2 stars off for their pre-historic credit card imprint crusher machine. I think those are pretty much extinct? Especially with all the identity theft and craziness out there. I was furious when I asked them not to crunch an imprint of my credit card but, was told without getting the imprint I would be refused the sale. So then I asked if they could sharpie out at least some of the numbers. Nope. Refused. Cool. HOGWASH. I think I'll pay more at Best Buy and have my credit card number remain a mystery. read more

I originally wasn't impressed with Micro Center. With places like Best Buy and online, I didn't really see a need for this type of place and CompUSA closing (the retail space it replaced) was proof of that. They do have some decent prices when things go on sale and is a reason why I bought a laptop from there a couple of years ago. I thought that experience was average or below average. The sales person kept on trying to upsell like car sales people or the computer sales people from the late 80s or early 90s before online shopping and retailers like Best Buy. (There was another customer who was complaining to the manager that the same sales person was sexist) I did like how when I discovered that the laptop I bought had a cracked screen it was easy to go in and exchange it without having to deal with the hassle of contacting customer service, shipping, etc. More recently I started to get back into technology after a ten to fifteen year hiatus and needed to upgrade some things. During this process my appreciation for Microcenter has grown. They have almost anything that you are looking for and the prices for some items can be competitive with online retailers. It looks like Best Buy's prices are inflated now. I'm willing to pay a couple of dollars more than online for the convenience, but just a couple of dollars or small percentage more. The customer service can be hit or miss. I didn't deal with the computer sales people this time around. When asking for other help or information it kind of seems like the person might be bluffing or pretending to know what they were talking about. On the other hand there have been some that really sounded like they knew what they were talking about. I'm counting on their website being up to date and accurate so that I don't have to waste any trips down there and know what I'm looking for. Haven't had any issues with it so far. Microcenter can do a little bit better in handling long lines, such as opening a new lane when needed, and parking can be a hassle in this shopping center. So 3 stars for Micro Center for being a decent place for technology needs. read more

I want to return an Apple Macbook Air I purchased in June 2015and be refunded the amount. The computer screen would freeze and I had to hold down the POWER button five seconds to re-start the Macbook, I spend two months working with Apple Tech Support trying a lot of fixes over and over. I have a printout of the Apple engineers suggestion notes which are contained 25 letter size pages. It was decided to return the hardware for repair. I went to Microcenter Rockville an talked to a manager. His sales person wanted to wipe and reinstall Apple OS 10,x.x. That's all they said. Then they offered to do it for me for $100. After some talk, the manager said he felt for my situation an offered to do the wipe/install for $50. I told him I had already done that several time, Twice it was done at an Apple Store Genius bar. No thanks. I finally took it to the manager of the Apple Store and she sent it off for repair, It came back with a new main board and a new SSD board. Oh, one problem. The Macbook Air was out of warranty. The warranty ended a few days before I purchased the "NEW" Macbook Air from Microcenter. It had been registered by someone in June of 2014. The 1 year warranty was over. I've been going here for at least ten years and not once did I have a bad experience until this weekend. I had the most rude and sarcastic Salesman named Freddie. He was negative and degrading and all we needed him to do was print off the label for what we had just ordered online but he wouldn't stop telling us how wrong we were and went on millennials which really was irrelevant. This is a great store, just don't ask Freddie to help. Even his boss wasn't happy with him and pointed out that he didn't even acknowledge me, just kept being rude to my boyfriend. read more

I really wanted to like this place. I like Micro Center as a company and love the store's selection. When I visited this location, the service was so-so...I accidentally bought Windows 7 32-bit version online and needed the 64-bit. At the store, the display for the OS software doesn't have any prices or details. I asked an associate for the 64-bit version and he told me no problem. I got to the register and was surprised to find it would cost over $200. After talking to the cashier, I found out that they gave me the package with both versions. They carried the 64-bit version by itself, so no harm done...but if I hadn't questioned it, would have been sold extra stuff I didn't need. Last week I tried calling the store...I wanted to ask about their tech support services. I called several times and tried different extensions and the phone just rang and rang each time. They don't answer their phones. I guess they get enough customers that they don't need to, but that is just bad business and really turned me off. read more

Of course they serve a slightly niche market compared to the few remaining big box electronic stores and so have a greater selection of specific items but they do carry a wide variety of electronics.
