Food - Being from PG County, I love me some fried fish and this is the only place close to home where I can get me some. You can also get Alaskan crab legs and other fried goodies. There's also a pretty wide selection of my type of comfort foods: BBQ ribs/chicken and sides. Prices are reasonable and the food is decent. Grocery - Asian-themed similar to Super Grand Mart just a mile or two away, except this place isn't super or grand. The produce selection is decent and comparable to major grocers ($0.49/lb for B A N A N A S!). There's also a decent selection of "fresh" fish covered in ice, though I can't attest to the freshness of it yet. You'll also find rice, ramen, spam, and sriracha - the 4 staples of the poor Asian undergrad's diet. KFroYo - they have a Frostberry, which I'm assuming is similar to Pinkberry/Yogiberry, but it's closed until the Spring. Location - A standalone building formerly known as Sunny's Surplus on Rte. 1, the grocery and the restaurant/froyo is separated by a glass wall. There's plenty of seating for the restaurant and most of the seats are taken by the heftiest Laurel has to offer, which I consider a testament to the quality of the chow. Service - my 2 rules for carry-out type of places: 1) speak decent English and 2) make sure I get all the food I ordered. This place does both, so 2 thumbs up. Not only is the food here absolutely delicious, the owners and management are top-notch. The prices are also extremely reasonable you get more than what you pay for! We love their crab legs and their fried scallops in particular. And the steam shrimp is very good as well. While we typically stick to those go-to items, we can't wait to try more of the menu. My husband & I came here on a Friday night. It was Good Friday and he was craving some fried fish. This place is huge. They have a bar and a liquor store attached to the restaurant. It's a carry out style place where you get in the line to order your food and find a place to sit. They call your number when it's ready. The place was packed with at least 14 people in line to order but it seemed to be plenty of seats. I suspect most were ordering to go. We waited about 20 mins in line but I think I needed that time to figure out what I wanted on the massive menu. They had specialty drinks like sangria and watermelon margaritas at the bar and it was full displays of crab legs, oysters and the different fish available. It's a wall full of deserts and another wall of side dishes. We settled on stuffed (with crab meat) salmon and fried perch. The cashier was friendly and answered all of our questions with enthusiasm. We paid, got our order number and had a seat to wait. They had TVs playing the basketball game and a buzz of people walking around. We heard our number being called and went to the counter to pick up. Everything was very good, both of our fish dishes were flavorful and hot. The portions are generous, I couldn't even finished half of my stuffed salmon. My husband was very happy with his fried perch. Upon first walking into this establishment, things were a bit different than my expectations. But what I did find exceeded my expectations immensely. I had an amazing piece of Terakyi Salmon, buttery sweet corn, steamed broccoli, and moist cornbread. With a cold beer to wash it down. All for under $20. That is a good price for some very good food. The portion was a bit large and I intended to save half for lunch tomorrow. But in the end, I couldn't help myself and devoured the whole plate. I've been traveling to Laurel for the past 14 months and I've driven by this place a thousand times. I finally stopped in tonight, and I'm kicking myself for not doing it earlier. The place is spacious, with tables scattered around for people to dine in or wait for their orders to go. There's a small, 6-stool bar, which was busy with customers talking to the convivial bartender. The menu is expansive, covering a wide variety of seafood and Southern staples. I had the fried catfish dinner with sides of hush puppies and cheesy broccoli. Extremely generous portions and some of the best catfish I've ever had (and as somebody from the deep south, I've had a lot). Service was both friendly and efficient. If you are ever in the area, and you need a quick seafood fix, this is the place to go to. Not only do they have fresh seafood, they have a range of subs and sandwiches to Korean food (bi him bap). I have been here quite a few times, and the food here is fresh and the layout of the restaurant is pretty efficient. They have an ultimate seafood platter that has 2lb of crab legs, half pound of steamed shrimp and 8 hush puppies for $35, theres a more expensive option for 15 lb crab legs and 4lb of steamed shrimp and 30 hush puppies for $200 which is a great deal for an occasion. You could also add a dozen fresh oysters for $12. that's a shmuck a buck. or 2 dozen oysters for $20. I would come here for there seafood salad too, it's price was around $9, and It fills you up pretty well. When I'm hankering for fried fish, I always go to this place and order the combo - 3 ribs 2 fish. They know how to fry fish - breaded, seasoned, and not greasy at all. It's worth the wait, since they fry it only when you order it, so it's fresh. The bbq ribs are not always consistent though. Sometimes they are well-cooked/falling off the bone, sometimes you have to yank the meat off the bone. Their roasted red potato is quite tasty. Their veggies are ok, though a little over cooked. So the Boyfriend and I were in Baltimore and we really wanted fish. We are Ohio people. We never get fresh fish. After the long trek to Maryland, we found that most of our fish options closed at 9. It was 9:01. What to do? To Yelp, of course! That's where we (I) found Mid-Atlantic Seafood. Here's the deal: you look at the extensive menu on the wall, you order, and you sit. The staff calls your number, you come get your food, you eat it out of styrofoam to-go containers. Make sense? Of note: this place is really big. It was awesome that as many people as there were on a Thursday night, there was plenty of seating to go around. But make no mistake, this place does a big business. There was a line before and after us but the line moved quickly and steadily, even for it being within an hour of close. Since we went at the end of the night, they were out of the first couple sides I tried to order, but that's more on me than on them. I wouldn't make a new batch of stir fried string beans either if it was 30 minutes until close. I also got the end of the coconut shrimp, which made it taste better (I am obviously very scientific). Boyfriend was really into the crab cakes and we were both stuffed with about 1/3 of the food left. It was like the loaves and the fish! It was biblical, I tell you! The fried chicken is what I normally stick to although my boyfriend likes the meatloaf. Majority of their sides are good however, I'm not a big fan of the cheddar broccoli.
